Weekly podcast of messages from Momentum Church on the Gold Coast. Most messages are from our Senior Pastor, Harry De Vries, but also some from lay members and occasional guest speakers.
Worship was there in Genesis 1 and was lost in a garden in Genesis 2. While we know that God inhabits the praises of his people we can fall into the trap that when we praise God then has to turn up and this is a self centred worship. Our worship begins and ends with God and Jesus reinstated, redeemed and restored our worship.
Do You Feel Like God Is Not With You? You're Not Alone—But You Are Never Truly Alone. Life gets heavy. Challenges mount, anxiety creeps in, and sometimes it feels like God is distant or silent. But the truth, rooted in Scripture, is that God SO loves you—and because of that deep, enduring love, He is always near. Let's explore some powerful Bible verses that prove God's presence, love, and faithfulness even in our darkest moments.
It was the Samaritan, a man despised by Jewish society, who stopped, bound the man's wounds, and ensured he was cared for. His compassion moved him to action, and that action became the miracle the wounded man needed. Compassion isn't weakness—it's the beginning of healing. It opens the door for God to work. In this story, Jesus reframes what it means to truly "love your neighbor." It's not about knowing the law—it's about living it through mercy.
In Psalm 77, we wrestle with doubt and distress—but also with divine faithfulness. What will you do with the cross? What will you do with the storm? Will you cower like the cow or rise with the buffalo? Join us in storm chasing with Jesus and discover hope in hardship.
What if Jesus coming to this world is more than dying on a cross, what if the idea of salvation was not just about us getting a ticket to heaven but more about lifting the veil on how we are to live here on earth. Jesus came at the time that He did to show people the heart of God and in Jesus' ministry we see there is a real shift in focus from external action to having a true heart transformation. The Jesus way showed us, love, compassion, humility, forgiveness, generosity, integrity, truth, peace, patience and faithfulness to God.
From the very first verse, Psalm 65 makes it clear: “Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. You who answer prayer, to you all people will come.” – Psalm 65:1–2 (NIV) This passage highlights a foundational truth: God listens. Prayer is not just a spiritual ritual—it's a real conversation with the God who answers. Psalm 65 reminds us that: God hears us when we pray, God forgives us even when we fall short and God provides for us, both spiritually and physically.
Long before he was thrown into the lions' den, Daniel had already won the respect of King Darius through the character of his testimony. Scripture tells us that Daniel was “distinguished above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him” (Daniel 6:3 NKJV). Darius saw in Daniel a man who was honest, wise, and deeply committed to something beyond politics—his God, Daniel's lifestyle showed a power of testimony to the faithfulness of God.
Throughout Scripture, we see a divine rhythm—God calls, and His people respond. Genesis 22 illustrates this beautifully as Abraham hears God's voice, answers, and takes action. This sermon unpacks how God calls our name, invites us into deeper faith, and leads us through life's challenges with purpose and always with His presence and divine grace.
Words have the power to build up or tear down, strengthen faith or breed doubt. In Matthew 14:22-32, we see how Peter's words—"Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water"—demonstrated his faith. But his doubt-filled words later caused him to sink. Nicho explores the significance of our words in shaping our faith, relationships, and walk with God.
At Momentum Church, we believe Jesus is more than just a Sunday experience—He is the foundation of our daily lives. Our vision is to cultivate a thriving community of believers who live out their faith every day, at home, at work, and in their communities.
Ps Patrick shares a message with us about the need to dream again for the things of God.
In 1 Corinthians the Apostle Paul speaks to them about everyone having a roll, a part to play in the kingdom of God. To quote Dr Martin Luther King we the church, need to be thermostats instead of thermometers in our communities and Paul shows us no matter what we do whether we plant or we water we first need to hear what God is saying to us and remember that it is only God that causes the grow.
We all need to motivated at times, motivated to do different things or get up in the morning. Each person has a unique way of being motivated and God knows exactly who you are because He created you, He fashioned you, He formed you and spoke into you. So who better than our heavenly Father to place within us His children, the gifts of motivation we read about in Romans 12.
Ps Patrick Fitzgerald is from People's Church Dublin City and he shares with us a message about Jacob and Esau and the destiny that is before them both.
Have you ever overheard a conversation and interrupted to give what you thought would be well appreciated information only to discover you had the context all wrong. When it comes to reading and studying the bible, context is everything and especially when it comes to the gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 where it appears they conflict with Ephesians 4.
We all have aspects of our Christian life that we relate to God in different ways, for some it's about the worship, for others it can be the preaching or even about connection. No matter which way we relate do we consider all aspects of God in our walk that is do you see God the Father and Jesus and the Holy Spirit and can you identify with each one.
Romans 10 tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. We all have in this life the opportunity to live our best and when we have the revelation of the word of God we open ourselves to the amazing work of God through not just hearing the word but living the word.
On the 3rd of February 237 years ago under a great tree in what was to be known later as Circular Quay, the very first sermon was preached on Australian soil. The message was by a Minister called Richard Johnson and he spoke from Psalm 116 - "What can I offer the Lord for all that He has done for me" Richard understood the impelling call of God over his life and we all face the challenge of moving forward into our destiny to see that great call fulfilled in our lives so we can bring the Gospel message all across this great nation of Australia.
The Apostle Paul was in Ephesus when he heard about the church in Corinth and the disunity it was facing from sins that invaded the church that made the church appear like Gentiles. Paul confronted these issues by teaching them that they are many and yet one in Christ and he teaches them about the gifts of the Spirit that are available for anyone the Holy Spirit desires.
In Matthew's Gospel chapter 16, many people were talking about this man called Jesus, who was he, was he Elijah, was he John, was he Elijah. The disciple Peter had a journey in his life that brought him from thinking Jesus was the One who would fix Israel from its predicament in the natural to a revelation that Jesus was truly the Son of God and Israel would have a different kind of salvation. Peter had to learn to let go of the old and believe for the new, Jesus showed Peter this at the Passover where Jesus taught them a new commandment - love one another.
Have you ever thought about what Christmas gift you would give to God? What is the right gift you could ever give the Creator of the universe who has, knows and made everything, and what would God actually desire? In the book of Micah we read bout three things, three qualities of the heart that Micah shows us are the things that God desires from us.
My mother had many Christmas traditions that she adhered to throughout her life from the way presents were handed out to the food we would eat. One particular year all of us children convinced our parents to let us open all the present a week early, what a great time it was until Christmas Day actually arrived, you can imagine how we felt and yes it never happened again. In Luke's Gospel Simeon was promised that he would see the Messiah and unlike us, he waited until he saw that promise fulfilled that not only showed the birth of Jesus but looked ahead to the salvation of mankind.
The call of the Gospel message is one that is upon every believer, everyone who is a disciple of Christ has a mandate to go into the world and preach the Gospel. That world may be your home, your work, your family, that world is everywhere around us for God gives each one of us an opportunity to share about His goodness and love and what Jesus has done for us.
When Paul writes to us about the Ministerial or Five-fold Gifts in Ephesians 4, he was writing to a church that was going strong, to a group of believers that had a desire to grow in their faith and Jesus. Paul could have been writing directly to you.
Understanding the gifts of the Spirit is an important part of our identity in Christ, after all Jesus himself gave us the Ministerial Gifts also known as the Five-fold gifts in Ephesians 4. To understand how each gift operates helps us grow together in the unity of faith and understand one another in the Kingdom of God.
Even though at times it seems like it's hard to sit and read the word we must be encouraged to be obedient to persist and keep reading because as we read a spiritual transaction takes place. Mark's Gospel shares the story of Jesus healing a blind man and it appears that Jesus couldn't heal the blind man the first time – but when we know God through reading His word we get to see there is more to see in this story and we need to open our eyes to the greater plan of God.
When it comes to the Gifts of the Spirit we need to make sure we are looking through the right lens and our attitude is planted on the right foundation. There are some things that help us keep ourselves on track to make sure Jesus is always the centre of everything we do so we all can be available and ready for the Holy Spirit to use us for the Kingdom of God and God's glory.
Nicho shares with us from Matthew Chapter 6 and the words of Jesus to us about forgiveness. The words of Jesus are very clear, we must forgive, if we don't forgive others our heavenly Father cannot forgive us and unforgiveness has a way of weighing us down. Jesus came to give us life abundantly and because we are forgiven, we need to allow that forgiveness to flow though us to to others.
The will of God is about you being connected with the right people at the right time in the right place. When we look at the life of Esther in the bible we see the outworking of Gods divine appointment over Esther's life and His purpose for the children of Israel. God has a divine purpose for you today.
Ps Harry shares a message of vision and dreams over Momentum Church that has happened over the last 8 years and his heart of what God is doing today. Jesus is still in control, Jesus is still the head of the church and Jesus desires that all would know Him.
Whatever happened to the Gospel, is the Gospel just as effective today as it was in the past? George shares with us from the Matthew 13 and the parable of the pearl, God gives a gift of righteousness to the sinner. The parable is not about pearls, but it is about the gift of righteousness that God gives to sinful people. What sort of person considers the pearl of great price, the person who understands its true value, righteousness from God. God sees the person you really are the real Gospel recues us from sin and death wretched though we are and who will rescue this body of death. Praise be to God for our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wherever God is good things grow. In 1 Peter chapter 4 we read that God has given each us as followers of Jesus Christ a variety of gifts, not just a variety but a great variety and we are to use these gifts to serve on another. Ps Narelle brings us into the word to look at how we serve God and His purpose and in that proccess we serve each other.
Luke chapter 7 gives us an incredible story of events between a Pharisee, an unnamed woman and Jesus. The woman comes into a scene where the Pharisee is practicing what is known as Tzedakah but Jesus cuts through the social layers and deals with the issues of the heart and rearranges the room. Verse 44 shows us an incredible picture - Jesus looks at the woman but addresses Simon.
Jesus lived in a culture culture teaming with hostilities and tensions against the Jews and others. There were racial divisions and vilification of groups like the Samaritans and segregation and political strife between the Pharisees and Sadducees, the Herodians, Essenes and Zealots, the taxing isolating culture against the sick, the poor and homeless and in the midst of all this, Jesus comes on the scene and starts his preaching ministry speaking love God, love yourself and love others.
As Christians we are called to move forward and not be stagnant in our walk with Jesus. Nicho shares with us from Psalm 91 and some on his personal testimonies of how God encourages and uplifts us for the work of the ministry, the promises of the Psalm and God's unwavering love and protection over us are available for all who dwell in the secret place of the God and that God will be our refuge always.
This Father's Day Ps Bec shares with us from Hebrews 12 and how the author tells us to not forget the word of encouragement that speaks to us as a father speaks to his son. It goes on to share to us to never lose heart because God does discipline us because He loves us as His children and if we are truly His children then discipline is part of our maturing.
Luke Chapter 5 gives us the headline of Four Fishermen Called As Disciples but the headline only gives us one part of the story. The story of the calling of Peter and his fellow fishermen reveals a greater story and that is the story of God's great redemption plan of John 3:16.
At the end of the Elijah's life he takes his apprentice Elisha on a journey, a path of the Spirit to see if he will take up the challenge from Gilgal to Bethel to Jericho to Jordan. Each place is another test to see if Elisha is ready to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
2 Corinthians Chapter 4 tells us to keep or fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen because all we see in this world is temporary not eternal. Because of Jesus and what He did on the cross we all as believers are fixing our eyes on eternity with Christ.
Nicho shares with us from 1 Corinthians chapter 12 and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Each one of us as believers have opportunity to be the vessel God could use to display His glory and Nicho shares testimonies from his life and how God has used him in multiple ways to reach the unsaved and show the love of Jesus. Today God could use you, we just need to have faith and be available.
What is revival? Charles Spurgeon said "Revival begins by Christians getting right first and then spills over into the world. If we want revivals, we must revive our reverence for the Word of God." Whatever revival is, it cannot happen without one incredibly important person and that is the person of the Holy Spirit.
George McArdle shares with us a word about being ready for the wave of the Lord who is coming in like a flood over our lives. Being ready for more from God so we all can walk in all the promises and purposes that our loving God has for us.
The 11 Disciples who remained found themselves with Jesus and He told them to remain until the Father will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. I don't think any of the disciples would have envisioned the change that would come over their lives once they received the power of the Holy Spirit.
The book of Hebrews talks to us about the plurality of Baptism and in Luke's Gospel John the Baptist tells the people there is One who is coming that will baptise you with Holy Spirit and Fire.
The Holy Spirit is so often misunderstood and under utilised in our Christian walk. The Holy Spirit is the gift that Jesus said the Father would leave us after he ascends and there are gifts the Holy Spirit gives us to help us on our journey of faith for the Kingdom of God.
Romans 10:9 tells us to confess with our mouth and believe in our heart that we will be saved, but is that all that is required from us as believers? The bible shares with us numerous people who spoke out in faith to Jesus because they believed Jesus Himself could meet their need.
Nicho shares with us the well known story of David and Goliath, it's a story of a young boy who had the favour of God on his life and refused to see the enemy as just a giant but looked to the victory God would give Israel.
Jesus shares with us the parable of the seed that is sown in Matthew 13. We all get given the same seed from the same source and God has a way of shifting the ground of our heart from a path that may be rocky and full of thorns to a fertile ground producing a hundred fold.
