In this episode of SIYB we have Chris Jack on the show who is the host of Sneaker Stories. Sneaker Stories is Chris’ Instagram page and Youtube channel where he posts sneaker and fashion related content. His focus is towards reviewing the latest shoes to give you the best insight regarding the sneaker before you can purchase them yourself. He is one of the top sneaker content creators in South Africa and has grown incredibly well recently.  Chris is a DJ himself who is on a break from the decks and is pursuing his passion for digital content creation on Youtube and Instagram. Sneaker Stories brings us great quality reviews and it is all a one man show! In this episode we spoke about how this platform started, how Chris manages editing, quality of content, the troll comments, what’s to come with the new studio and much more! I enjoyed this conversation because I think it was super cool to learn from Chris about his work process and what goes on behind the scenes. Being in the sneaker game myself, I know how hard it is to find pieces on a regular basis and Chris’ ability to source and review some really rare sneakers is one of the reasons why Sneaker Stories is so unique. In this episode of SIYB, I sat with a pretty well-established stand-up comedian and film star from South Africa- Dr. Riaad Moosa. He is one of the funniest comedians in the country and is known for his specials on Youtube and Netflix but also his film- Material. Material was a great success in Dr. Moosa’s career and is still a very culturally significant piece of work in South African cinema.  Dr. Moosa is a muslim comedian and often finds himself balancing between political correctness and his belly-aching punchlines. He has mastered the art of joking about sensitive topics and making them comedy-friendly. He also keeps most of his comedy specials vulgarity-free so bring the kids along! Strictly Halaal, Life Begins, Not a nice guy; the list of his great pieces of work never ends.  I loved talking to him and learnt a lot about his work process. My goal is to explore the behind the scenes of people’s lives and it was great to hear how Dr. Moosa operates in the world of comedy and how he started as a comedian. With Covid-19 being a great hurdle for comedians, Dr. Moosa has quickly taken to social media by storm by hosting online live shows and events so the laughter never stops.  For someone with a medical degree, I think it is safe to say that Dr. Moosa took the saying, “Laughter is the best medicine” a little more seriously than most doctors.  Hope you enjoy!  XXXXX Sponsor: Educat Publishers  Purchase Barrier Face Masks now on Takealot via this link: https://www.takealot.com/face-masks-educat-protective-barrier/PLID69449905 Educat Publishers’ Website for more product and contact details: https://educat.co.za  XXXXX Dr. Moosa’s website: https://riaadmoosa.co.za  You can find “Not a Nice guy” through the website now while it is still online!  Instagram: @riaadmoosa XXXXX Shamsi’s Details:  Business enquiries- shamsihussam@icloud.comInstagram: @shamsiinyourbrainTwitter: @hussam_shamsi XXXXX XXXBlack Lives Matter: https://blacklivesmatter.com Use this link to read up, stay updated, listen to podcasts, etc.  Change the mindsets of those around you. In this episode of SIYB I sat with Dr. Irshaad Ebrahim who is a well- known Neuropsychiatrist and an expert in sleep disorders. He gained his degree in medicine from the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine in South Africa and is currently working from London. He established the London Sleep Centre in 2002 and was the first NHS appointed Neuropsychiatrist in sleep disorders.  He travelled and learned his craft - doing research in Canada and eventually moving to the UK. His practice- the London sleep centre is one of few sleep centres located around the globe where doctors assist patients in battling their sleep disorders. It’s pretty revolutionary. Sleep is a great part of our lives and its importance is often underestimated.  This conversation was pretty cool for me. In this episode of SIYB, I had a chance to sit with Or Lahat- one of the co-founders of Crumbs and Cream to talk about the brand’s origins and how they operate. Crumbs and Cream is a local brand that started off in 2016 with their signature Ice-cream sandwiches. These sandwiches consist of two fresh cookies with scoops of ice cream sammiched in between them. You have a great deal of liberty while ordering your sandwiches as you sous-chef your way into picking the cookies’ flavours, the type of ice cream and also the toppings to go along! They also offer coffee, french crêpes, milkshakes and also stand-alone scoops of ice creams or cookies.  Their new line of products includes packaged ice-cream sandwiches that are sealed and frozen for you to take on-the-go. They have a range of flavours (I love cookie monster) and also offer a pack of 9 where you can have the vastest variety and combinations of cookies and ice cream - with crazy toppings - in a small box! Apart from selling in their flagship store in Sea point, the tuktuk at the waterfront or even in Johannesburg, Crumbs & Cream offer catering services for birthdays and occasions, packaged ice creams for Engen garages (also work in progress) and deliveries through Uber Eats, Mr. Delivery and more!  I loved talking to Or and I learned a lot about how the brand operates. It’s clear that a lot of planning and brainstorming goes into everything Crumbs and Cream does and their customers’ feedback speaks for it. Listening to Or’s story and how she manages everything gave me a new-found respect for the brand and I also have a better understanding of what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Laughter and Bone Silence is an anthology of Ryan Shayne’s poetry. It’s a beautiful account of Ryan’s emotions, perspective and interests. I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far and that’s exactly what we covered in this conversation.  Ryan is a friend of mine from high school and has been interested in poetry from a young age. Seeing him being published this young is really dope and more importantly- being able to admire and learn from his merit is really what makes this book so special. Ryan is a versatile writer who loves to read and read and read; be it T.S. Elliot or some Dante - he knows a little bit of everything. He is also studying the classics and English Literature at University and is enjoying doing what he likes.  The reason why this book is so special is because I love poetry as well and being able to ask Ryan questions about why he chose certain words or ideas was super cool. I just love the care and detail that went into this compilation. It’s a work of a true modernist and in the midst of the madness in his book Ryan will successfully convince you that “The best of us are headless chickens.”  I know I’m convinced.  XXXXX Hope you enjoyed this episode!  Buy Laughter & Bone Silence now:https://linktr.ee/Ryanshayne Ryan’s Socials: IG: @ryanshayne  XXXXX Hussam: IG: @hussamshamsiTwitter: @hussam_shamsi XXXXX Thanks for listening!

In the Jordan episode of SIYB, I sat down with Samantha Fick who is the founder of the NGO- Speak Peace. Speak peace is a peace-building initiative that focuses on alleviating violence and helping people maintain peace in all aspects of their lives. They work around Cape Town and mostly in gang-ridden communities to try and save children from partaking in gang activity, prevent domestic violence, try assist people with substance abuse issues and also host workshops and programmes to teach peace.  Speak Peace got its name from the philosophy of speaking one's reality into existence. They teach communities and specially primary school children how to speak with peace and how to interact with one another. They believe that peace is not just the absence of violence but the presence of health, happiness and a stable balance in a person's social, mental, emotional, physical & spiritual well-being. They also teach gardening, yoga and physical fitness to ensure that people in these communities are healthy in all aspects of life and can practice peace.  I enjoyed this episode because I learnt SOooOOo much. You miss a lot of details when listening to the news or talking to your peers but Samantha brought in statistics and first hand experience that helped me understand violence in my city in a better way. He works at the logistics department for the BIGGEST truck factory IN THE WORLD and manages containers for spare parts going from country to country. He is quite knowledgeable on the processes behind making a truck and what these trucks are capable of. I guess working with a factory that pumps out a truck every 130 seconds all made to order gives you some form of edge. Felix is also training for management so hopefully in the next 4-5 years he can be a manager and get a new Mercedes car every 3-6 months! (jelly) I always enjoy talking to Felix and this hour was no different. We spoke about the trucks, how they are made, BMW and other competitors, how does one qualify to work for Mercedes Benz, how the factory is coping with the virus, electric power and a lot more. I know he is very deliberate with his aesthetic and puts great thought into most of his works. I loved this episode because it's rare to find someone who you can talk to about Dennis Rodman and also '1984' in the same conversation and they just get it. Lorcan gets it.  Thanks for listening! XXXXXLorcan's Instagram: @ihatelorcanXXXXX Hussam: IG: @shamsiinyourbrainTwitter: @hussam_shamsi XXXXX Please rate and share the podcast. Professor Lebogang Mototo teaches me my marketing course at the University Of Cape town. She accomplished a double major in Marketing and Psychology and also did her Masters from the University of Witwatersrand Aaaaannnddd is also working on a PHD! She is exceptionally driven, conscious about her environment and very open to new perspectives and opinions. Her goal is to prepare her students for a lot more than the "basics of advertising" as she prides herself for being a lecturer who is not afraid to bring attention to "the real world" and hence, puts marketing into incredible context.  In this episode we spoke about films, representation and recognition of race, genders and cultures in companies, how Spiderman and Black Panther compare, the consumer protection act, local and international brands, the amount of research that went into writing a paper for a Masters study, marketing(obvs) and Nutella!  I was in awe of the extent of her knowledge about current affairs and events of the past. She invited me into her office where we spoke about the podcast and what keeps her going. I quickly picked up on the sincerity in her intention to teach and also what drives her to stay on top of her own academics while constantly keeping up with the world order. Thoroughly enjoyed this conversation :)  Hope you enjoyed this episode!  XXXXX Thanks to Professor Lebogang for being on the episode :)  XXXXXShamsi's Socials: IG: @shamsiinyourbrainTwitter: @hussam_shamsi XXXXX Please subscribe, share and RATE the podcast!  Thanks for listening!

Gerald is a cryptocurrency expert who is known for his extensive knowledge in Bitcoin. He is financially independent because most of his earnings come from passive income received via crypto investments. Being one of the early adopters of Bitcoin, Gerald knows a fair amount about how to “play the game” and he uses this knowledge to host seminars & teach others about how to get started in the crypto world.  I started investing in cryptocurrency around 2017 and have been a part of it ever since. I have had my fair share of losses (TRUST ME) but am still confident about the probable trajectory of currencies such as Bitcoin. I recently discovered a platform called Mirror Trading International and have been looking into investing into it further. I thought that $100 was a relatively reasonable amount for me to risk - which is the minimum entrance amount- and I have seen my portfolio grow. Although I have my fair share of suspicions and I operate cautiously, I am impressed by the level of transparency provided by this company and the speed at which people are joining the platform.  I think it’s worth the risk if you have some cash laying around. Like Gerald said, diversify your income streams and cryptocurrency investment is one of several ways you can do so. If you invest $100 now and the price of Bitcoin shoots to a million dollars in 10 years, it won’t hurt to have some extra green.  Crypto is new and has potential to grow. I think we should try educate ourselves on concepts of mining or multi-level marketing to judge what the best way to invest is and how to win the game in the long-term.  Thanks for listening!XXXXX Mirror Trading International's Referral link: https://mymticlub.com/userpanel/register.php?referral=hussam  Gerald's details: Email:misdiamonds1996@gmail.com Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrj_7fGRRChQbfYONstfV_A XXXXXHussam: IG: @hussamshamsiTwitter: @hussam_shamsiXXXXX Hope you enjoyed this episode. Emotion isn’t cheesy. Learn to feel.In this episode my friend Liam Swartz and I sat and talked about a topic that is sensitive yet very relevant. Being “men”, we often struggle finding ourselves given society’s expectations and our discussion was based around just that. We challenged numerous traditional gender roles and stereotypes and also explored some of the pressures placed on people (in general) in society. Our goal was to speak out about the importance of self expression, emotion and some of the unfair advantages that men may have created for themselves.I think we fulfilled our mission of normalising conversation amongst men to promote accountability and self-awareness. We also explored several perspectives and scenarios in society where men may be disadvantaged and this was purely done with an intention to explore those perspectives rather than labelling men as the victims. Liam is a pretty chill guy and I hope that after listening to his opinions and views on such sensitive topics, you have a better understanding of the man behind your screen.  We think men need to grow up.  Hope you enjoyed this episode!  —x—x—x—x—x— Liam’s Socials  IG: @liamxswartzYoutube channel: Liam Swartzhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK5Y21spT_ru7hiR5ScRNbA/feed—x—x—x—x—x— Hussam’s Socials IG: @hussamshamsitwitter: @hussam_shamsi —x—x—x—x—x— Please rate & share the podcast! Jacques is a magician who performs at private parties, he has performed for 9 presidents, for child soldiers in a jungle in Congo and also gangs in Cape town. His charity work - Magicians without borders - is a project where him and magicians from across the world travel to townships & areas impacted by gang violence to rescue children from the dangers that they face. Their goal is to teach children magic and familiarise them with an art form that can keep them away from the harshness of their communities.  Jacques believes that through his magic, he helps people re-discover the kid in themselves. He is well-read on the history of magic and how tricks have evolved over the past. It was quite impressive to see that he keeps up with the magic world and is invested in his craft. Magic is an art form that is unique because the art is in the making of the art while an audience consumes it.I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all of his crazy stories and about his travels around the world. He has cured patients who were terminally ill and said to have no hope from the “traditional” medical institutions. He outlines these philosophies and theories in his book: Demonized Doctoring. It was a long drive to get to the clinic (6 hours) but I think it was really worth it. It seems to me that there is a world that is going unnoticed and Annemiek helped me learn a bit more about that. Listening back to the episode, things still don't fully make sense to me but I think there is great value in what mysticism has to offer- mainly because it is a subject that is not well known or discussed. To me mysticism is a broadened perspective that takes you away from the "thinking mind" and helps you experience the world in a way that a common human doesn't.
