Interview with Ana Raynes In this episode, I had the chance to sit down and speak with a digital marketing expert, Ana Raynes, and we chatted about the importance of social media metrics and growing as entrepreneurs. Ana Maria Raynes is an entrepreneur, digital marketing expert, and owner of the marketing agency, Simplified Impact. She studied at the London College of Fashion, and credits her previous life in fashion for her creativity and high energy. She was a co-founder of the Internet fashion startup Smart Is Cool, where she was responsible for social media and information technology. Following her position with Smart Is Cool, she pursued a career in e-marketing. Ana has since worked in social media and content marketing with agencies in the New York and Boston areas. She has led digital marketing campaigns for clients such as HSN, Wendy Williams, Football Legend Carl Banks, iHip for Snooki, Eastbay, Aer Lingus, SkyMall, and more. Prior to the launch of her own business, she was Vice President, Content Marketing at Didit. As a thought leader in her field, she has been invited to speak at conferences such as PPC HERO, NY Small Business Expo, NYXPO, Philanthropy Day, CORE, and Vistage. One of my favourite things about speaking with entrepreneurs is seeing how multi-passionate people are and the incredible journeys people take typically going from industry to industry until they find what lights them up. Ana and I spoke in-depth about her origins as a fashion designer in New York, and how she morphed into an entrepreneur of a completely different industry after moving to Rhode Island! Ana talks about the importance of reviewing and knowing your social media metrics in growing your business - whether you are a B2C or B2B business. We also go into depth about how valuable having a niche is especially when you're starting out and wanting to grow your business rapidly. Ever heard of the saying "The riches are in the niches"! Lastly, Ana and I chatted about morning routines. I've always heard that really successful entrepreneurs have really consistent mourning routines to get themselves ready to take on the day. Ana shared how she wakes up around 4 am, meditates, journals, reads and catches up on industry news, all before breakfast and doing the mom thing around 6:30 am and then heading onto work. For the last few years, I've been doing my best to develop a morning routine that works for me and makes me feel energized - I have yet to find my jam. Most importantly Ana and I talked about how it doesn't matter what others do if it doesn't work for you. Having a standard morning routine that you follow each day is about feeling good, energized, and starting out your day strong. With this in mind, I'm ready to switch things up a little and do it my way - I'll report back ;) You can connect with Ana and her team at www.simplifiedimpact.com. The history of music (indeed, the history of humankind) is littered with tales of poor behaviour. It can range from stories of murder, molestation and drugs, to reports of every-day obnoxiousness. Welcome to episode 138 of Love That Album Podcast. As music fans, we make conscious decisions to either overlook or take to heart the behaviour of those we put on a pedestal for their art. We decide whether to separate the art from the artist or hold them accountable for behaviour and beliefs we cannot separate from their output. Throughout the career of George Ivan Morison, there have been reported incidents of rudeness and poor treatment of those around him. This is in complete contrast to his music which dwells in themes of love, nature and spirituality – both musically and lyrically. In September 2020, he has tested his fanbase and given fuel to his detractors for the announcement that he is releasing new songs in protest of Covid-19 lockdown. Is this consistent with previous Van-isms or is this one step beyond? I am joined by drummer, author, music producer and Van Morrison megafan Pat Thomas to discuss the 1972 release Saint Dominic’s Preview. It is an album that celebrates all that is beautiful in life by a man who sounds like he really believes it. However, it would be disingenuous if we didn’t take the time to discuss the walking contradiction that is Van Morrison (….and yes, we talk about the news of his Covid stance). We also discuss the place his music has in our hearts, his behaviour, his connection to Belfast, and where the album stands developmentally in connection to his catalogue. There are artists I refuse to give patronage to for repulsive views that others have no issues with. My continued enjoyment of Van’s music may be in contradiction to others’ beliefs – so be it. There is no one size fits all. My huge thanks to Pat for taking the time to join me for a great (virtual) fireside chat. This newsletter is really a public policy thought-letter. While excellent newsletters on specific themes within public policy already exist, this thought-letter is about frameworks, mental models, and key ideas that will hopefully help you think about any public policy problem in imaginative ways. It seeks to answer just one question: how do I think about a particular public policy problem/solution?Welcome to the mid-week edition in which we write essays on a public policy theme. The usual public policy review comes out on weekends.PS: If you enjoy listening instead of reading, we have this edition available as an audio narration courtesy the good folks at Ad-Auris. If you have any feedback, please send it to us. Listen in podcast appShinzō Abe, the longest-serving Japanese PM ever, stepped down from office last week. His second term that began in late 2012 was marked by his prescription for reviving Japanese economy. The world called it Abenomics. Through a mix of unconventional monetary policy, robust fiscal stimulus, and structural reforms to boost growth, Abenomics was seen as a marked departure from the timid response that characterised the previous regimes. Abe was determined to jolt Japan out of the economic morass it had dug itself in for over a quarter-century since 1990. We will discuss Abenomics and what lessons it holds for us in more detail later. But let’s go back to the lost decades of Japan that gave us the pejorative term ‘Japanification’ and understand what happened during that time.Bubble, Bust And No RecoveryJapan was the miracle economy following WW2, benefitting from U.S. largesse in infrastructure spending, government investments in technology and research, rise in entrepreneurship and increase in factor productivity for over three decades. Low-interest rates and all-round prosperity in the 80s led to an asset bubble. The stock market and real estate valuations went through the roof on the back of speculations and easy credit policy. There’s an urban legend (or truth?) of three sq.mts. of land near the royal palace being sold at US$ 60,000. That meant the appraisal value of the palace was more than the state of California then. In little over 25 years from 1960, the land value went up by 5000 per cent in Tokyo and other major cities. By the end of 1989, the Nikkei index was at its historic high of 39,000. This was a bubble and like all bubbles, it popped in 1990.Japan hasn’t recovered since. The obvious reasons were discerned immediately. The policy response to the bubble was to increase interest rates and quell speculation. But as the equity market and real estate prices crashed, borrowers who had overleveraged themselves were trapped. A debt crisis soon followed with widespread loan defaults. The contagion now engulfed Japanese banks who were staring at a huge pile of NPAs. The credit dried up, investments fell, and the growth slowed dramatically. The sentiment turned negative and the consumers cut down on spending. This began a deflationary cycle. The Bank of Japan (BoJ) was slow to respond and the deflation spiral set in. Why would you spend today when you know the prices would be lower in future? BoJ began cutting interest rates and brought it below 1 per cent by mid-90s to spur investment. But these actions weren’t coordinated with a fiscal response. The hike in consumption tax in 1996 meant the further dampening of consumption sentiments. The loan default crisis led to the collapse of three banks in mid-90s. By 1997, as BoJ and the government were getting their act together, the Asian financial crisis dealt a crippling blow to the economy. This set it back for another three years. What Went Wrong?Krugman in 1998 argued the lost decade of the 90s was because of monetary policy failure. His view was the BoJ should have publicly taken a high inflation target that would have avoided a deflation and prevented interest rates from going down to zero. Of course, this is supported by theory. A higher inflation target anchors inflation expectation at a higher number and this increased expectation in turn leads to higher inflation because of the forward-looking aspect of the aggregate supply equation. Further, the increase in inflation expectation would reduce the real interest rate because it takes time for nominal interest rate to reach its long-term level. In the short-term, this reduced real interest rate stimulates growth which in turn increases inflation. A kind of a virtuous cycle sets in. Anyway, this wasn’t done by BoJ. The other option was to reduce the interest rate to zero quickly and provide substantial monetary stimulus quickly to check loss in output. A combination of a high inflation target (as suggested by Krugman) and monetary easing policy could have possibly worked.Between 2001-06, the BoJ went on a quantitative easing overdrive purchasing long-term Japanese government bonds. After the global financial crisis of 2008-09, the BoJ extended this programme to purchase private sector financial assets including corporate bonds, ETFs (therefore equity in private companies), CPs and invest in real estate investment trusts (REITs). This had an impact on financial markets with stock markets rising, fall in bond yields and increase in corporate bond issuances. But this expansionary policy came at a cost. The debt to GDP ratio which was around 60 per cent in the 90s went up to 240 per cent by 2012. However, all of these measures didn’t move the needle on inflation. It is possible a higher purchase of private risky assets like corporate bonds and commercial paper instead of government bond would have spurred growth and raised inflation expectations. But that was not to be. Separately, the lack of coordination between monetary and fiscal policies hurt the economy. There were multiple increases in taxes to balance the budget while the monetary policy was working to increase consumption sentiments. Lastly, there was a lack of clear communication to manage expectations among the public about long-term inflation, interest rates or growth. A forward-looking guidance by the central bank on these parameters provides assurance to market participants more so when the financial system is weakened by high NPAs and general risk aversion. A recent example of this was seen when the US Fed indicated it will purchase corporate bonds as part of its stimulus during the pandemic. The planned purchase announcement itself did the trick in raising bond prices before Fed actually bought a single one of them. Abenomics In PlayShinzo Abe and BoJ Chairman Haruhiko Kuroda assimilated the learnings from the lost quarter-century to formulate the ‘three arrows’ of the Abenomics in 2013. The three arrows were:A monetary policy based on qualitative and quantitative easing (QQE) framework with a 2 per cent inflation target, significant purchase of long-duration government securities and private risky assets, expansion of BoJ balance sheet and upfront guidance on these numbers. BoJ promised to double its monetary base to 54 per cent of the GDP by 2014. A robust fiscal policy that increases absolute government spending on areas like public infrastructure, welfare for its ageing population and servicing the debt. This was to be done in close coordination with the monetary policy actions.Structural reforms to spur growth and private investment. This includes lower corporate tax, increase in participation of women in the labour force, more immigration and acceptance of high-skilled foreign workers, more inbound tourism to Japan and championing free trade (TTP), lower FDI barriers and global liberal order to counter China. You couldn’t fault their prescription based on what they learnt from their past. Abenomics wasn’t a radically new construct but in bringing the three arrows together, setting targets for them and then communicating it clearly indicated Abe meant business. Japan needed to be jolted into a path of recovery and this was the way to do it. The salience of Abenomics grew as more economies, including US and EU, followed the path of QE to stimulate growth and manage financial stability. Did It work? Well, it is a mixed bag. The inflation in Japan remained persistently below 1 per cent. The primary objective of the 3 arrows was to ‘warm up’ the economy to an extent that spurs demand and gets the investment cycle going. On that count, it failed. It has seen limited success in increasing women labour force participation, more immigration and in keeping debt to GDP at a near-constant level of 240 per cent (pre-Covid) despite the increase in monetary base. It’s not an unqualified success. The counterfactual, of course, can be asked. Could Japan be worse off today if not for Abenomics? I think it would. Lessons From AbenomicsSo, what are the lessons learnt from 7 years of Abenomics in Japan? Robin Harding writing for the Financial Times has six lessons from Abenomics for the world struggling with ‘Japanification’. I am paraphrasing below: Monetary policy through massive purchase of government securities and private assets work. The ‘bazooka’ of 2013 had a positive impact on the Japanese economy – stock markets boomed, credit uptake went up and unemployment fell.Despite the promise of coordinated monetary and fiscal actions, Abe couldn’t keep fiscal hawks down. The rise in consumption tax from 5 to 8 per cent in 2014 worked counter to the efforts in increasing consumption. The economy went into a recession. Another increase last year to 10 per cent had the same impact. Communication and future guidance on targets didn’t materialise. The promised inflation target of 2 per cent was never met and the consumption tax hikes meant the premise of raising expectations and letting it do the heavy lifting in raising inflation didn’t work. Expectations management works if you meet the expectations. Beyond a point, you need to intervene directly to meet your targets. The key commitments of Abenomics were never kept and soon the market stopped responding to the BoJ plans of further easing. Stimulus doesn’t cause an increase in public debt to GDP ratio going up. We have discussed this already. It remained range-bound at 240 per cent.Structural reforms didn’t cut to the key issues confronting Japanese society – an ageing population leading to a fall in total factor productivity, a disappointed younger generation carrying the burden through levies and taxes on income, strong hierarchical working style stymieing innovation and a reluctance to embrace large scale immigration to get out of this rut (an advantage so far for the US).Our LessonsThese are important lessons for India as we consider the options to revive growth after the pandemic. The fears of an increase in fiscal deficit and a rise in debt, lack of coordination between fiscal and monetary actions and poor communication or guidance to the public about the road ahead should look familiar to all of us. We can avoid these pitfalls and yet bank on the demographic dividend that’s still available to us to have a version of Abenomics work for us. The Abe playbook didn’t work for him, but it could work for his friend, PM Modi.HomeWorkReading and listening recommendations on public policy matters[Paper] Paul Krugman’s famous paper in six parts on Japan’s liquidity trap written in 1998 that explains the reasons for the lost decade.[Paper] Yoshino and Taghizadeh-Hesary in their ADB paper blame structural reasons of Japan for the lost decades. Let's Talk News COVID-19 Dr Ai Fen is missing,Who Knows something about Did It, COVID-19.
It’s a different time for marketers and brand builders across the board. But what about B2B marketers? What’s different for them in the face of COVID-19? I couldn’t wait to ask our guest this week just that. Ana Raynes is the CEO and founder of Simplified Impact, a B2B growth marketing agency. We discussed what B2B marketers can do during these strange times and the various stages of business that will follow. About Ana Raynes Ana Maria Raynes is an entrepreneur, digital marketing expert, and CEO and Founder of Simplified Impact, a growth marketing agency for B2B niche companies. She was a co-founder of the Internet fashion startup Smart Is Cool, where she was responsible for social media and information technology. While working at Smart Is Cool, she was featured in Glamour Magazine and had multiple appearances on FOX Strategy Room. Following her position with Smart Is Cool, she pursued a career that focused on digital marketing. Ana Maria worked for agencies in the New York and Boston areas where She has led digital marketing campaigns for clients such as HSN, Wendy Williams, Football Legend Carl Banks, iHip for Snooki, Eastbay, Aer Lingus, SkyMall, and more. Before the launch of her own business, she was Vice President, Content Marketing at Didit, a digital marketing agency for enterprise eCommerce clients. As a thought leader in her field, she has been invited to speak at conferences such as PPC Hero, NY Small Business Expo, NYXPO, Philanthropy Day, CORE and Vistage. Episode Highlights What’s different for B2B brands as we deal with COVID-19? As a B2B marketer, I couldn’t wait to ask Ana this. And, as a smart guest, she noted, “It depends on your industry.” For example, she works with a lot of medical product and tech companies who are experiencing an uptick. But it’s not the usual cause for celebration given the circumstances … Do brands celebrate growth in the face of a pandemic? “It’s somber growth. It’s very different than it usually is.” This growth also brings a new level of busyness as well. Speaking of routines … Question all of your usual B2B assumptions. B2B marketing has a set of rules that are usually strictly followed. However, many of those best practices deserve a second look in these strange times. For example, B2B buyers typically follow a more traditional workday, which means B2B marketers are timing campaigns to the 9 to 5, Monday through Friday window. Now, with everyone working from home and getting things done at odd hours, a weekend email might not be out of the question. What brand has made Ana smile recently? “There’s a brand called Love Powered Co. that does IM affirmations that are bringing light to so much of what’s going on lately. They always make me smile.” She also pointed to Working Mom Kind for smiles as well. To learn more, go to the Simplified Impact website and follow her on Instagram. Saya pindah haluan kerja sejak 2011.
Didit maaaaaaaaaaaaaannnn The homie Oakerdidit pulled thru on the P cast ya know. We chopped it up and spoke about music production, youtube revenues and growth, Oakerdidit's journey through Youtube, how we met and most importantly, the kit that we’re releasing very soon! Didit is one of my day 1s and never fails to amuse. I love his production style and the level that he’s taken his craft. Seeing someone you know to start from nothing and establish what he has now fills you up with nothing but pride. So I really mean it when I say, Oakerdidit. Lot of work to be done though. We’re not stopping just yet. I love talking to Didit. Thanks Didit for pullin thru! Hope y’all enjoyed this episode! DISCLAIMER: If you're willing to rock out in full with us during this episode, PLEASE don't mind the beeping sound a few minutes in, people... My phone started dying, but I was determined to get this done. I finally got a chance to catch up with Philly Hip Hop artist and good friend of mine, Did It The Guy. We've been cool since high school and being as though he was a big part of me getting my feet wet in music, I gave him the floor to give the listeners a chance to step into his world, inside and outside of music. Again, I apologize for the repeating beeping sound, but we couldn't bail out on the episode. And I hope you all can listen past it and enjoy.
Holy hell guys this was one hell of an exercise in patience. These movies really start to blur together after hour 5. But we DID IT. We watched as many 'Nightmare' movies as possible. We also drew connections between Freddy and the Joker. They're basically the same character if you haven't noticed. Come join us on our SPOOKY HALLOWEEN episode. Grab some candy, put on your Wizard hat and listen to FOR THE STORY!

"Anyone can do it.” ~Bob (AKA: The Rock) A simple and powerful Mind Bullet begins our week: Anyone Can Do It! Taking inspiration from The Rock and Kevin Hart's comedy "Central Intelligence," we examine a throwaway line from The Rock's character, Bob Stone. Kevin Hart's character, Calvin Joyner, is flabbergasted by Bob's transformation from overweight high schooler to muscular and fit adult. "How did you do it?" Calvin asks. Modestly, Bob says it really wasn't much — he just did one thing: Work out six hours a day for 20 years. "Anyone can do it," he adds. Yes, anyone COULD do it. Anyone CAN do it. But does anyone actually do it? Remember, if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you. And the "it" is highly personal. Anyone CAN challenge themselves, everyone COULD complete their challenge, but DO we? Listen in for inspiration on identifying what YOUR next challenge is, whether it's physical, mental, or social, and how The Habit Factor and PARR can turn you into someone who DID IT! What are the valuable parts of YOUR story? What is the legacy you need to leave for the world? My guest today has a unique perspective on his role as a podcaster, believing he is entrusted with preserving today’s stories for future generations. Nick Goblirsch has been a podcaster and producer for nearly four years, while having a successful HR leadership career AND running a family household with his wife, Megan, host of the You Be You with Meg and Liv podcast. Despite having graduated with a degree in Fine Arts, design, radio, and video, Nick had long since turned off the passionate part of his life to focus on the NOW of raising children. A close friend of his started his own business, but needed someone with multimedia expertise. In came Nick, who for a small window of time every other week, started drawing on those dormant skills and escaped a bit from the day-to-day grind of his career to do something new and refreshing for a friend. As he started building his friend’s brand, that creative itch started surfacing again, and the passion for creating, sharing, and connecting was alive again. He set a goal of doing 200 full episodes with a few mini-sodes in between, and has set a mission to honestly connect with people around him, discussing timely topics that he can relate to and start a conversational experience that he can learn and grow from. Fighting imposter syndrome Have you heard the little voice in your head that says you don’t belong? We’ve all heard it at one time or another, and Nick remembers well the voice that said he would never be good enough in the podcasting world. He finally tired of not celebrating his successes, and when he was asked to speak at a podcast conference, he felt like it was the culmination of everything he had done up until that point. The challenge was to learn something new, get good at it, and expand his network---but he DID IT. Nick shares how he learned to love himself, believe in himself, and take care of himself---and stopped fishing for compliments from others. TWEET: Challenge yourself to learn something new, get good at it and use it to expand your network. It’s not as hard as you imagine. @dependent_nick #chasingdreams Finding the spark again Which of society’s “stupid rules” do you follow? For Nick, he thought making the decision with his wife to start having children meant that everything else in life had to be put on hold. In his mind, parenthood meant forgetting who you are and forsaking the dreams you might have. Fortunately, he found the spark again and the love for all things tech, especially in the world of video production. Being raised by his grandmother and an alcoholic father after his mother’s death put him in the position to embrace his independence, and this skill has served him well as he became The Dependent Independent. TWEET: Which of society’s “stupid rules” do you follow? @dependent_nick #chasingdreams Finding his voice Have you found YOUR voice? What is the legacy you should leave behind, not just for your own children, but for other generations? Nick is thankful that he has found his love for art and media again, and is using his talents to do something meaningful in the world. He shares a personal story about using his podcast to document thoughts and experiences that he hopes his children will appreciate one day in the future. He looks at his podcast as a time capsule in preserving memories that are the gift that keeps on giving for future generations. He says, “Everything you record is a legacy and an imprint on the world.” TWEET: “Everything you record is a legacy and an imprint on the world.” @dependent_nick #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Don’t be afraid. Fear is crippling. Life is too short. It’s OK to be scared, but don’t let fear dominate your decision-making.” OUTLINE OF THE EPISODE: [:26] How intimidating conferences can be for a newbie podcaster [5:43] Tracking down Dave Jackson and other veteran podcasters [8:00] Fighting imposter syndrome [12:23] Why we doubt ourselves [16:29] Finding his spark again [21:08] The rules society makes for us [25:53] Breaking out of the mold [31:45] A pivotal point that led to Nick’s first podcast [38:04] Finding a level of fulfillment [46:04] ONE action for a dream chaser RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Nick on Facebook Nick on Twitter Nick on Instagram Meg’s Podcast Facebook The Dependent Independent podcast TWEETS YOU CAN USE: TWEET: Putting your voice on tape or a video recording means you are leaving an imprint behind that moves people. @dependent_nick #chasingdreams TWEET: If you are a victim of imposter syndrome, then you will never stop to celebrate your successes. @dependent_nick #chasingdreams TWEET: Imposter syndrome is the voice in the back of your head that says your success is not warranted and that people will eventually realize you are nothing but a sham. @dependent_nick #chasingdreams TWEET: I didn’t feel like I belonged in the podcasting world until I belonged. @dependent_nick #chasingdreams

This Christmas cast is about communication between people, and God. Moreover, it’s about the cost of poor communication, which can be suicide, let alone habitual alienation. And the rich advantage of good communication, which can be the difference between life and death, let alone satisfaction and personal happiness. Recently, Tullian Tchividjian spoke at a ‘Broken Christmas’ service in Living Faith Lutheran Brethren Church at Cape Coral, FL. He spoke brilliantly, soberly, gravely, touchingly, humorously at points, and as affectingly as Mary and I have ever heard him speak. To introduce Tullian, I took an illustration from William Inge’s 1970 novel entitled “My Son Is a Splendid Driver”. In that novel, the author, a man in his mid-40s, is visiting his aging mother and father in the small Kansas town where they live and where he grew up. Uncharacteristically, his mother does not meet him at the station — ‘My Son’ takes place during the Great Depression — but only his father. When the author arrives home, his mother is there, but looking thin and very worn. She informs her son, “Your father has given me a disease that I do not have the courage to name.” What has happened is that his mother has been given what we today call an STD by her husband, who, like her, is in his mid-60s, and who contracted the disease from a prostitute during a business trip. The mother is completely collapsed and ashamed. Her son reflects as follows: “Mother had stopped going to church. ‘ Church isn’t the place to go with your troubles. Church is just a place to go when you’re feeling good and have a new hat to wear.’ “There was a little bitterness in what she said, but there was also truth. Our minister would have been the last person in the world she could have talked to, to have lifted the curse she felt upon her and saved her from feeling damned. She would have embarrassed the man into speechlessness had she gone to him with her story… “Most of our morality, I was beginning to think, was based on a refusal to recognize sin. Our entire religious heritage, it seemed to me, was one of refusal to deal with it.” William Inge’s thoughts are so germane. How many people do you and I know who have “dropped out” of Christianity because of their feeling that the church is judging them in some way? Your friend may feel judged by conservative or evangelical Christians. But I may feel judged by liberal or progressive Christians. Judgment “swings both ways” (Herman Hermits, 1966). It swings all ways! Tullian focused some on suicide, in his talk. He reminded us that almost everybody contemplates suicide at some point, even if only for a minute. (“Did It in a Minute”, Hall and Oates, 1981) And the people that actually do take their own lives are usually people who have felt unable to confide their real thoughts and feelings to ANYONE, and for quite some time. You can become habituated, in other words, to suppressing yourself. And the long-term result of that?: POOF! Listen to this cast in the light of your desire — very natural — to express yourself to somebody. Ultimately, your desire to express yourself, to God. The key is empathy. Tullian has it. I hope I have it, at least a little. And I know that the Burning Babe (Robert Southwell) has it, also. LOL at Christmas, PZ

I have returning guest to my show, Chris Albin, who while a high school teacher, built up over 300 rental properties. UNBELIEVABLE!! He will be coming on the show to share creative strategies on how to purchase property with No Money Down and No Credit. He is Amazing!! What I love about Chris is that he DID IT and LIVED IT. He is the Owner/Broker of the Danville, IL area's only Flat-Fee Exclusive Buyer's Brokerage, where he's worked with area investors analyzing and purchasing real estate investments and area buyers in purchasing a home (usually first-time home buyers). For more information about the Show and Mat and Mark, visit www.refreshyourwealth.com.

Like most of us, 15 year old Jessica Lawrence had a dream. She knew what she wanted to do, and she was going to do it. Except, like most of us, she put it off…and put it off…and put it off. Until, 22 years later, she finally stopped putting it off…and just DID IT. And now, she’s on a mission to motivate others to take a hold of their dreams and find a way to do them, no matter how long they’ve put them off and no matter how many excuses they’ve made.
You may have noticed that, much like your favorite TV shows, the Screeners took a summer hiatus there for a bit. We figured it was time to tell you that this scheduling decision was part of an avant-garde social experiment to probe the liminal boundary between media and media commentary, and...OK, it was all Chad’s fault. Chad just didn’t love you enough to see Closed Circuit with the rest of us. There, we said it. Does it feel better to know the truth? Does it?!OK, now that the unpleasantness is out of the way, it’s time for the most popular segment to ever come first in the Screeners lineup, Jump Cuts!Stay Classy, DreamworksRon Burgundy’s baaa-aack. Not in a movie - not yet, at least. He’s back in SUV ads. SUV ads? Yes, SUV ads. (Yes, those are all different links. So is this one. Oh, and one more.) And you know what? Ron Burgundy can be in ads for smooth jazz for all we care. He’s Ron *%&$ Burgundy. In a tangentially related story (if you were listening last year, or whenever our last episode was), a company called Oyster is trying to become the Netflix of books. Will they succeed? What does success mean in this arena? Shh, no one tell Amazon about their plan! They’ll never figure it out!As you may have heard, Tom Clancy died recently—he might have died a little young, but that’s not going to stop Hollywood from profiting from his intellectual property. There’s a new Jack Ryan movie in the works, this one starring Captain Kirk (no, not the good Captain Kirk). Predictions: We will see Jack Ryan cry, something will explode, and Josh will falsely pretend he was contributing to society during the time he spent not watching the movie. You may have also heard that Breaking Bad ended two weeks ago. If you had not heard that, you are almost definitely not reading this, so why should we talk to you? Go away. (Are they gone?....good.) In perhaps the most unfitting tribute possible to one of the great television shows of our time, the Screeners attempt to cover The finaleThe other 5 seasons of the show, andA Machiavellian plot to keep the gravy train rolling just a little bit longerin the time allotted to a lightning round question. Yeah, good luck with that.“Did It...Pull You?”It’s difficult to merely talk about things that must be experienced to be appreciated, but the Screeners give it a shot this week by tackling Gravity in the Main Event. It’s a movie that’s been well-hyped and well-advertised, but in trailers distinctly different from the typical Hollywood headliner. The creators have given us surprisingly little of the story arc and fewer snappy one-liners, leaving us wondering if they actually wrote a movie at all. We expect to know exactly what happens before we ever set foot in the theater, so this kind of reticence is jarring. We’ll respect it, though, by not saying anything important (until the spoilers section, at least). We do have one question, however: They called it Gravity, but it happens in space, where there’s, like, no gravity, right? What’s the deal with that? (No, that wasn’t a spoiler. You can turn off caps lock and close Gmail.)Coming This Fall...Gravity may be a tough act to follow, but that won’t stop the Screeners from at least mentioning some of the other things they’ve been watching recently. There are a few new shows in this fall’s lineup, but the ones getting the most air time from us are the David E. Kelley/Robin Williams joint The Crazy Ones, The Blacklist (starring a creepily baldish James Spader), and Joss Whedon’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Are they worth the space on your DVR or your, um, HuluTube queue-stack (whatever the digital natives are calling it this week)? Listen and find out, then shoot us a comment/e-mail/tweetbuzz to tell us why we’re wrong.See you next time! (Or will we?...)

This episode is BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!! “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”~ Oprah “A Date with Destiny” is designed to help motivate, inspire and EMPOWER you to live your life in the highest context of love, peace and joy! It will help you to take a closer look within yourself and discover the great, “I AM” that dwells there. It will help you to have a better understanding of the Laws of the Universe-“God's Laws,” and how it was designed just forYOU to have all you could ever want. Too often we don't take the time to “stop and smell the roses.” We tend to hold on to old hurts and habits which hinders us from moving forward. And when we do pick up the pieces and move on, we don't CELEBRATE the fact that we DID IT! We have moved past the mistakes that we made and are EMBRACING the NOW! So we have decided to do a“Celebrating Life” segment once a month, to acknowledge someone who has been brave enough to move forward by starting with renewing their mindset and looks at life with a brand new perspective. This segment is for you!
