Sean “Diddy” Combs, also known as Puff Daddy and P. Diddy, is once again making headlines as his legal battles intensify. Today, July 30, 2025, news sources like Sky News, the Los Angeles Times, and major U.S. outlets report that Combs' lawyers have urgently petitioned a federal judge to grant his release from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The motion is asking for a record $50 million bond, secured by Combs' Miami mansion, while he awaits his sentencing scheduled for October 3.Combs, 55, was acquitted of the most serious charges earlier this month, including racketeering and sex trafficking, but was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act. The charges stem from allegations that he flew various people, including girlfriends and male escorts, around the country for consensual sexual encounters. According to the Los Angeles Times, his attorneys argue the conviction criminalizes what they describe as a private swinger lifestyle, referencing testimony from ex-girlfriends such as Cassie Ventura. They highlight that the Mann Act, historically used for cases involving financial exploitation, has rarely if ever been applied in this manner, asserting, in their words, “Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct.”Despite the unusual circumstances, Judge Arun Subramanian has so far denied previous bail requests, citing concerns about Combs' past behavior and potential danger to the community. Nonetheless, Combs' defense team is now offering not just the multimillion-dollar bond, but also strict travel limitations, potential house arrest, and even mental health or substance abuse treatment if required by the court.Meanwhile, while legal issues dominate the spotlight, there are emerging reports in sources such as Primal Mogul and on Instagram that Diddy has been plotting ambitious ventures with Kanye West—aiming to collaborate on new fashion, technology, and film projects once legal matters are resolved. The “Black Billionaire Syndicate,” as some call this partnership, is gearing up to make waves across multiple industries, building on the star power and entrepreneurial drive of both moguls.Listeners, thank you for tuning in to this week's update on Sean Combs. Peter McCormack is the Owner and Chairman of Real Bedford, who play in the 8th tier of English Football. But this is unique for a number of reasons. We always look for the stories that represent a different approach to running sports assets, and building your Premier League ambition around Bitcoin is certainly one of those. Peter is the host of one of if not the biggest Bitcoin podcasts. As you'll hear his journey to club ownership is as colourful as it is extraordinary; this is someone who has come through some challenging times to get to where he is now. As you've just heard in the intro, everyone laughed at him when he laid out the plan for Real Bedford, but with a wealth of both deep pocketed sponsors and investors, most notably the storied Winklevoss twins (of Olympic rowing, Facebook lawsuit, and Gemini fame to many of you I'm sure), this is quickly becoming a team with both the resources and strategy to fly up the pyramid. With a women's team competing in the third tier and proving equally ambitious, the plan is to build a club fully representing the community, full of opportunity and success. The usual challenges remain: success vs profit, full attendances, wider football governance. But as this is a place where we want to look at how to create sustained value beyond football's historic and increasingly out of date financial levers, the Real Bedford model is a captivating alternative. Not for everyone, not guaranteed to work, and certainly unorthodox, but a bold attempt to break the wheel. On today's show we discuss: Buying a Football Club How Peter went from addiction to building a media brand around Bitcoin The inside story of how Peter bought Real Bedford FC with podcast money How he convinced the Winklevoss twins to back a team in the tenth tier Why Real Bedford is run more like a startup than a sports club The brutal financial reality of owning a non-league football team Why so many lower-league clubs are unsustainable Brand, Identity & Culture Why Real Bedford has a clearer identity than most football clubs The value of cult storytelling, local community, and crypto-native branding What clubs get wrong about women's football and how Real Bedford does it differently How ambition and relentlessness are what drives the project Why does crypto present an opportunity on the financial side of football ownership that traditional approaches miss? Leadership & Legacy What owning a football club taught Peter about management, burnout, and ego Why he's building a club for his kids, not just for wins How he thinks about failure and what he'd do differently next time "It's not all about winning": Having this approach allows you to recognise success in broader terms, but does it only work at a lower level? In this Berkeley Talks episode, economist Gabriel Zucman discusses how wealth inequality and billionaire wealth has soared in recent decades, prompting the need for a global minimum tax of 2% on billionaires. “The key benefit of a global minimum tax on billionaires is not only that it would generate substantial revenue for governments worldwide — about $250 billion a year — but also, and maybe most importantly, that it would restore a sense of fairness,” says Zucman, a UC Berkeley summer research professor and director of the Stone Center on Wealth and Income Inequality's Summer Institute. Today, billionaires pay only about 0.2% of their wealth in taxes, says Zucman, because they often structure their wealth to minimize taxable income through control over corporate dividends, delaying capital gains and using holding company structures, among other methods. The 2% tax rate proposal is a modest one, he argues, and would merely ensure that billionaires, comprising about 3,000 families around the world, pay at least as high an effective tax rate as those in the middle class.“For the first time in decades,” he continues, “billionaires would pay at least the same effective tax rate as nurses, teachers or secretaries, ending a situation where, in many countries, the very richest pay less than the middle class. It's a modest, pragmatic reform, but it would make a big difference for our democracies and social cohesion.”Zucman spoke at Berkeley on June 23 as part of the campus's annual Stone Lecture series. Now a professor of economics at the Paris School of Economics, Zucman previously served on the Berkeley faculty for a decade, first as an assistant professor of economics and then as founding director of the Stone Center on Wealth and Income Inequality. He co-authored the 2019 book The Triumph of Injustice: How the Rich Dodge Taxes and How to Make Them Pay with Berkeley economics professor Emmanuel Saez. Depending on who you ask, some would call the ultrarich “shameless”; others might say “aspirational.” For example: Mukesh Ambani, the Indian centibillionaire, has a room of snow in the Indian tropics—to say nothing of his skyscraper home, 168-car garage, and 600-person-staff. And celebrations for his kids' weddings featured Rihanna and Beyoncé. This is nothing new. Aristotle Onassis had whales' teeth carved into pornographic scenes from The Odyssey, and stools upholstered in whale foreskins which he kept aboard his yacht—because where else would you keep that? And one hedge-fund billionaire—whose name you won't even know—bought a 14-foot shark preserved in formaldehyde. Why? Why not? These opulent displays of wealth just scratch the surface. There are blood boys, Basquiats, and bunkers, many of them in New Zealand for the end of the world. From the Kochs to the Kardashians—most of us cannot look away. But one question remains: Do Americans loathe or love the ultrarich? That's one of the questions raised by Evan Osnos's new book, The Haves and the Have-Yachts. Evan is a staff writer at The New Yorker and an author—several times over. In his newest book, he investigates how this class of people—the “Have-Yachts”—got their money, how they spend it, and how they fight to keep it. It all paints a fascinating picture not just about America and capitalism, but about human nature and the status games we play. The book feels eerily relevant in this moment of social and political breakdown, fueled—perhaps above all—by rage at the economic picture and economic inequality. As Zohran Mamdani—the self-proclaimed socialist and likely future mayor of New York City—says, “Billionaires should not exist.” And anti-elite sentiment grows on the right, too—through voices like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Today on Honestly, Bari asks Evan Osnos what this level of income inequality means for America, if a revolt or a revolution is in our future, and how AI is going to supercharge an already precarious status quo. The Airbnb Story. This is a story that illustrates how renting an air mattresses along with breakfast has grown into a multi-million empire. This is the ultimate example of insanity meets creativity. After hitting a brick wall in the business it was realized that they needed testimonials and reviews to help build trust in prospect clients. Roadblock sprouted as more city regulations formulated. Then Covid came this actually decreased business by 80%. Airbnb has made through all these obstacles and more and has become one of the largest travel companies serving millions of clients. For many, Airbnb is preferred over hotel stays.Subscribe to the Social Proof Podcast:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6GT6Vgj...

Jared Isaacman may be the ultimate embodiment of the American Dream, or possibly the real-life version of Tom Cruise's “Top Gun” character, Maverick. He is a wildly successful businessman who started a billion-dollar company out of his parents' basement when he was a teenager. He has never been in the military, yet he owns and flies his own fighter jets. And in his spare time, he's an astronaut who has worked with SpaceX and became the first civilian in history to perform a spacewalk. When President Trump nominated him to be the new head of NASA, he seemed like an ideal outsider choice who would soar to confirmation. But then, he ran into a firestorm of turbulence that he's not used to navigating: DC politics. Jared sits down with Glenn Beck to tell the story behind that, including whether Elon Musk played a role and why America must defeat China in the AI and space races.
