On this podcast, I talk about all things simple-life on our hobby farm, homeschooling, and always about Jesus! I believe the remedy for clutter and chaos in our world, is Jesus. The more we desire Him, the less we desire the things of this world, and the easier it is to live more simply.

Listeners of Simply Living for Him that love the show mention: thank you karen,I have heard from many ladies lately that friendships have been a struggle. Add in a pandemic and it gets even harder. We all struggle at times with loneliness, comparison, and even a bit of drama. But, women that are following the Lord together, keeping God at the center of their friendship, and building one another are beautiful to behold. We aren't supposed to look like the world, but women of God. Listen in and be encouraged to cultivate God-honoring relationships in your life! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/12/15/friendships-the-good-and-the-hard/
It's too easy in the age of the Internet to take your eyes off of Jesus and onto others. We compare our lives to others and before we know it, we have wasted time trying to live a life we weren't called to live. God wants you to follow His plan and purpose for YOUR life and to glorify HIM in it! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/12/10/stop-living-someone-elses-life
Before you get caught up in the gifts, shopping, decorating, parties, and ALL the stuff, remember: This year's must-haves are next year's garage sale items. If you want to keep clutter out of your Christmas, I am giving you a Scripture today to keep you grounded! Listen in and be encouraged to have a meaningful Christmas with a focus on Jesus! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/12/01/keeping-clutter-out-of-christmas/
With the holiday season approaching it's easy to get caught up in what the world shows us hospitality should look like. But there is a big difference between entertaining and hospitality. One focuses on “look what I can do!” The other focuses on “what can I do for you? “ People will remember how they feel in your home far more than your decor or perfect recipes. Let's discuss how we can share Jesus with those who enter our doors! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/11/20/entertaining-vs-hospitality-what-matters-most/

Many of us feel helpless and even hopeless these days, but I want to remind you of the way to see the Light in the middle of it all! I've just come out of nine days of isolation and have learned many lessons about finding the light in a dark world. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/11/11/finding-light-in-a-dark-world/
I am back from the biggest milestone of our lives so far- my daughter's WEDDING! And with such big milestones, comes a change in perspective. I have been thinking a lot about how much time I have left in this earthly life and getting rid of junk–mind, body, and spirit. Come and join me as we talk about the importance of what we fill up on in our lives. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/10/29/no-more-junk-a-fruitful-mind-body-and-spirit
As the news headlines tell us we are facing shortages of goods and more wait times for things we "need" I am trying to get back to simple more than ever these days. Because the mindset of filling our lives with stuff and having it instantaneously can also spill into our spiritual lives. We think we need to be filled with things other than God. We also find ourselves impatient when God may want us to wait on His timing. In these pandemic times, I think we have really been given a chance to get back to what truly matters most. Join me and be inspired in small ways that can make a big difference in your life. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/10/18/its-more-important-than-ever-to-get-back-to-simple
When we seek perfection, sometimes we may take God out of the equation. In our earthly life, we will never achieve perfection. In fact, we may just realize that God wants us to go to Him with our imperfections. Today we are talking about how I have kept it simple in my homeschool over the past 16 years and the most important thing you can do in your homeschool. When it comes to curriculum, schedules, routines, methods, styles, and more, you will want to do this. Whether you are a homeschooling family or not, these principles will apply to all. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and let's focus on what matters most in your homeschool. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/08/26/how-i-keep-it-simple-in-my-homeschool/(opens in a new tab)
If you are like me, your mind is always going a million miles a minute. Add into that a world filled with chaos and confusion and information overload, and it can steal your peace. But let's look at what the Bible says about where we can find that peace during all the chaos. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/08/20/calm-in-the-chaos--clearing-mental-clutter

This week my husband's dear grandmother, age 99, passed away. She was one of the most admired women in my life and the lessons I learned from watching her live life surpassed even the nuggets of wisdom she shared in words. One of the biggest lessons I will remember is when I asked where was her favorite place to be –she had been splitting time between the north and the south at the time– and her response, "My favorite place to be is wherever I am at the moment." Want to hear more? Listen and be inspired by this wisdom from The Greatest Generation. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/07/08/simple-life-lessons-from-the-greatest-generation
Today I am sharing BIG life updates and then we are talking about how to live more simply, share the Gospel, and live with purpose in this crazy upside-down world. The world is getting darker each day, but we have the remedy- Jesus. Let's live like it! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/07/01/living-simply-in-an-upside-down-world/
Everywhere we look the world is showing us how our life "should look." I am asking you a question today that will change the way you live. What would your life look like if no one told you how it should look? Would your home look different? Your clothes? The way you spend your time? Let's dig into this topic and decide Who we are going to let influence our lives. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/06/17/what-would-your-life-look-like-if-the-world-wasnt-telling-you-how-it-should-look/
Today I want to look at a portion of Colossians that really ministered to me recently. for me to lament and get caught up in the worries that I may not have taught him enough or prepared him enough. But we sat down together recently and I explained to him that I learned more in my second half of life than in my first, and certainly more than in my years of traditional schooling. I reminded him that I gave him the foundation and tools to learn but from here on out, his real education is just beginning. For anyone who needs some encouragement about homeschooling or life after graduation, listen in...let's look at the truth of education for life.
I truly think this is one of (maybe THE) most important podcasts I have ever recorded. I have been asked this question many times recently and wanted to answer it today. Some of it may surprise you. Let's sit down and talk about how we can keep our children on the right path. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/05/20/how-can-you-keep-your-children-on-the-right-path/
Our world is consumed with aesthetics and beauty. But what if God's plan for our lives includes some things that aren't so pretty? Life isn't ever picture-perfect, but the most beautiful life is the one that is lived shining the Light of Christ. Today I am catching you up on life around here and then we are digging into this very important topic! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/05/13/there-is-no-picture-perfect-life/
Literally, every single one of my homeschool clients has made the statement to me, "I feel like I'm not doing enough" or, "I'm failing my children." And even if you aren't a homeschool mom, I can imagine most of you have said these statements at some point about something in your life. Today, we are going to really dig into that statement and turn it on its head as we look at Who is enough: Jesus. We are NOT enough. We can not DO enough. But in Him, we do the things He has called us to and by His power alone. Apart from Him, we do not good things. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/04/29/not-doing-enough-me-either/
A few months back we started the Simply Go! initiative here at Simply Living for Him to encourage and equip everyday women in their everyday lives to be on mission for Jesus. The world is hurting and we have the answer. You don't have to travel far to find someone who needs Jesus. You can go right outside your door. Recently I was intrigued when a Facebook friend of mine started posting about her experiences with sharing Jesus every week right there in the Walmart parking lot. She is a homeschool mom with nine children but is stepping out in obedience to the Lord right where she is! I decided to ask her to be on the podcast and talk about her experience as it fits right in with the Simply Go! initiative! You are going to be inspired by this beautiful woman and her courage to be bold, right there in the Walmart parking lot. She is changing lives! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/04/22/finding-god-in-the-walmart-parking-lot-ep-214/
Today we are talking about living a life you don't need a vacation from. Yes, we all work hard, and the Bible tells us we are to work, but what on earth are you working for? Are you striving for earthly things or eternal things? Are you building the Kingdom of God or an earthly kingdom that will eventually fall? Join me today as we talk about simplifying, what we really need, and not working to accumulate stuff but to fulfill our God-given purposes. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/04/08/live-a-life-you-dont-need-a-vacation-from
Our world is filled with fear. But we have no reason to fear the unknown when we focus on what is known – and that is, our God is a mighty and powerful God. Listen in as I talk about my very real struggle with fears and how God has replaced them with His truths. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/04/01/fear-of-the-unknown-ep-212/
It's been quite a few weeks and today let's hang out and just chat! The Lord has taught me much and I hope it encourages you wherever you are at today, too! Grab a cup of coffee or tea and let's chat! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/03/26/life-updates-and-what-god-is-teaching-me-ep-211/
Today I am sharing a bit of our journey and how God has led us to a path of homemaking, homeschooling, and self-employment. I have always lived with the idea that I wanted to make the most use of my time, and I wasn't working for a pension plan but for life now and for God. Come listen in, learn a bit about me, and see how some of these principles may apply in your own life, no matter what God has called you to do! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/03/11/a-path-of-our-own-homemaking-homeschooling-and-self-employment-ep-210/

I have a special guest on my podcast today! A listener contacted me to share her story of faith, homeschool, and the amazing work she is doing for the homeschooling community! Come listen and be encouraged by Stephanie Wiscott of Deeply Rooted Learning Center.http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/02/25/a-story-of-faith-ep-208/
Our days get very cluttered by so many things. Sometimes we need to take a deeper look to see what really matters in the grand scheme of things. Let's look at life today and make sure our priorities are where they need to be and how to prioritize each day.http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/02/12/get-your-priorities-straight-ep-207
Nothing complicates our lives more than getting stuck in worrying about what others think. We all have fallen into this trap at some point and today we are discussing how to truly live for the One who truly matters! There is no room for insecurity when you are secure in Christ! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/02/04/stop-worrying-what-others-think-ep206/(opens in a new tab)
In a world that is growing darker each day, it is more important than ever to raise our children to be a light. Today I am joined by Leslie Nunnery as we talk about what she and her family are doing with Teach Them Diligently for homeschooling families and beyond to raise this next generation of disciples. I have had the privilege to speak at Teach The Diligently for several years and I absolutely love their Gospel-centered approach. Right now they have so many ways to encourage you as a homeschooling family or a Christian family. Come on over and listen in and learn why it is so important to teach our children, diligently.
Today I am asking you a very important question to ponder: What would your life look like if social media didn't dictate how it should look or how you should think? Let's remember WHO is to influence us before anything else these days: God. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/01/21/the-age-of-influencers-who-is-influencing-you-these-days-ep-204/
In the age of this pandemic, it is difficult to be together as we are meant to be. Many of us find ourselves getting a bit comfortable in isolation. But I believe we must find ways to connect. Join me today as we talk about living in relationship, community, and together and not letting anything hinder us. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/01/15/we-are-not-meant-to-live-this-life-alone-ep-203/
Whether you are a homeschooler, just thinking about it, or even a critic, today I will address the many issues that people ask regarding life after homeschool. Can they go to college? What about jobs? Can they function in the real world (ha!)? Join me as I share about my first two homeschool graduates and the very different, but "successful" paths they are taking. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2021/01/07/two-different-paths-life-after-homeschool-for-my-first-two-graduates-ep-202/
My grandmother always said, "You just never know..." when something unforeseen happened. And all I could hear was her voice in my head this morning as I read through my prayer journal from last year at this time, and was taken aback by the things I had prayed for. Some are non-issues at this point. They never even happened. Others were answered in ways I had never imagined. And some were completely upended by the pandemic. In December of 2019, I just had no idea when I wrote out my prayers for 2020 what would be in store. Let's talk about the lessons of 2020 and not knowing what was to come, and how that affects us and our perspective going into 2021.
Now that I have two grown children, I have learned some pretty significant lessons along the way on our homeschooling journey. The best lessons learned were never in a lesson plan book or even a textbook. I am so glad we focused on God and our family first as well as trusting God to lead us in all things. Whether you are a homeschooling family or just a peek into how we raised our family a bit differently, tune in and join me today! http://simplylivingforhim.com/2020/12/10/homeschooling-what-really-matters/
We all know that 2020 has been a year for the books. And many just want it to be over with because it seems like it was cursed. But what if we looked at things differently? What if we saw things the way the Lord wants us to see them? Join me today as we talk about changing our perspective on this very different year. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2020/12/03/2020-a-blessing-or-a-curse-ep-199/
Today I am sharing with you some lessons I have learned lately about letting go of trying to figure things out and trusting God for each moment. Life has sure thrown a ton of arrows at us lately, and it can be hard to not get caught up. Yet, He gives us our daily bread and no more. In a culture that isn't satisfied with "just enough" it's hard for us to grasp that idea, but that is what the Bible tells us we need. If you have fears about the future, or even about tomorrow, come listen in and be encouraged to take one step at a time, with Jesus. http://simplylivingforhim.com/2020/11/19/one-step-at-a-time-ep-198/

In a world of Amazon Prime, Instant everything, and "on-demand" we are being conditioned that waiting is bad. Yet, we find in the Bible that God wants us to wait quite often...and wait on His timing. If we want to live simpler and less distracted lives, we can focus on Him and His timing. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. So, if you find yourself wondering, "how much longer" in some area of your life, this one is for you! Be encouraged as you wait.
