1 Cor 10 – Find Freedom Without Failure is the topic that will be discussed today on RIOT Podcast, a Christian Discipleship Podcast. In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul surrendered his rights for the sake of the gospel. In 1 Corinthians 10, he gives a warning: spiritual privilege does not guarantee spiritual success. Israel saw miracles. They experienced God's presence. Yet many still fell. Why? Because experiences don't replace obedience. In this episode, we talk about: Why freedom requires humility The real danger of idolatry and pride How temptation works—and what the “way of escape” truly means (v.13) Why everyday choices reveal spiritual allegiance You can't live at the Lord's Table and the table of demons. Freedom in Christ is real but it demands watchfulness. Listen now and learn how to live in freedom without drifting into failure.

What if the first miracle God ever did for His people wasn't parting the Red Sea — but simply letting them know He knew them? In this first message of our new series The Four Cups, Pastor Stephen Mizell unpacks the ancient Passover tradition rooted in Exodus 6:6-7 and shows how God's four promises — "I will bring you out, I will free you, I will redeem you, I will take you as my own" — are a roadmap for every believer's journey with Him. Before God changes your habits, He changes your identity. Before He fixes your behavior, He establishes who you belong to. That's the Cup of Sanctification — and it all begins with knowing God. Key Takeaways: Salvation is the starting line, not the finish line — God wants to restore you, not just rescue you Sanctification means set apart, not perfect — it's about position, not performance God introduces Himself before He changes your circumstances You can't know your purpose until you know your Purpose Giver Knowing God isn't a one-time event — it's a growing, circular journey Scripture References: Exodus 6:6–7 Acts 17 (God's purpose for the nations) Psalm 139 (You saw me before I was born) Ephesians 1:17–18 Romans 12:1–2 Open Door Church exists to help people Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, and Make a Difference.
This weekend emphasized that freedom is found in community, not isolation. Right friends shape your direction, help carry your burdens, answer when you call for help, and celebrate the harvest with you. Freedom begins with saying yes to Jesus, but it grows when we step into groups and surround ourselves with people who walk with us, lift us up, and point us back to Christ. This message was recorded live on February 22nd, 2026.

Ohio has long been at the forefront of the school choice movement—and today tens of thousands of students participate in one of the state's five scholarship programs. In this episode of LiberatED, Kerry McDonald talks with Rabbi Eric "Yitz" Frank, President of School Choice Ohio, and Ann Riddle, Director of Provider School Outreach at School Choice Ohio, to explore how Ohio became a national leader in education freedom. They trace the evolution of the state's first Cleveland Scholarship Program in 1995 to today's increasingly robust voucher programs. But as demand for choice continues to grow, a new challenge has emerged: supply. From facilities constraints to regulatory considerations, what does it take to expand schooling options at scale? The conversation also turns to the new federal education freedom tax credit program and how Ohio is uniquely positioned to benefit—potentially expanding choice to even more families. In this episode of LiberatED, Kerry McDonald speaks with Elizabeth Dean, Head of Learning at The Village School, a learner-centered school in Arlington, Virginia serving about 70 students. Elizabeth shares her journey from public school teacher and instructional coach to school leader—and how her own negative schooling experiences sparked a commitment to creating more human, joyful learning environments. Elizabeth explains how the Village School emphasizes hands-on projects, real-world challenges, and two hours of unstructured play every day—while still seeing students perform above grade level on standardized tests. She also discusses the school's deliberate choice to keep tuition below half the cost of most traditional private schools in Northern Virginia, supported by a robust financial aid program that prioritizes access over luxury amenities. The conversation explores the school's three-way partnership among learners, guides, and parents, the importance of social capital and personal development, and plans to launch a high school program in 2028. Most of us treat our spiritual walk like a solo project, believing we can reach our full potential through personal study or by watching a service from a distance. We try to handle our struggles in private, only to find ourselves stuck in a cycle of resetting the same old habits without ever addressing the root cause. But real growth isn't designed to happen in isolation; it requires a specific environment to actually take root. True spiritual maturity is a team sport, not a solo pursuit. There are blind spots in our character, our marriages, and our careers that we simply cannot see or fix on our own. We need a biblical community that loves us enough to call us up to a higher standard and carry us through the heavy seasons when we feel overwhelmed. You might be just one honest, biblical relationship away from the breakthrough you've been praying for. Community isn't just an optional resource or a social club; it is the fundamental context where our faith becomes practical. God designed us to be sharpened by others so that we don't have to drown in our own secrets. It's time to stop trying to "one another" without others and invite the right people into your journey. Step out of isolation and let the real work of growth begin within the body of Christ. At 12Stone Church, learn how to Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose and Make a Difference. What if high school was designed more like a creative studio than a traditional classroom? In this episode of LiberatED, Kerry McDonald spotlights NuVu High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a distinctive, studio-style school for students in grades 7 to 12. Kerry speaks with NuVu co-founder Saba Ghole and NuVu Director of Admissions Karen Sutton about NuVu's remarkable evolution—from a community laboratory partnering with local schools and homeschoolers to a fully recognized private high school. Founded in 2010 by MIT graduate students Saba Ghole and Saeed Arida, NuVu was inspired by the architectural studio model: immersive, hands-on, interdisciplinary work driven by real-world problems. Today, students spend much of their time engaged in multi-week design studios—building, testing, iterating, and presenting projects that demonstrate deep mastery across disciplines. With more than 100 graduates over 16 years—many heading to selective colleges in design, engineering, and the arts—NuVu offers a compelling example of how today's innovative high schools can prepare students not just for college, but for meaningful work and life beyond school. For families and founders seeking or building something fundamentally different from conventional high school, this episode offers a powerful glimpse of what's possible. *** Sign up for Kerry's free, weekly email newsletter on education trends at edentrepreneur.org. If you've ever felt tired from trying to hold it all together — your faith, your calling, your business, your life — this episode is for you.Today, I'm sitting down with Stefanie Gass to talk about the shift from striving to surrender. The kind of surrender that isn't polished or pretty. The kind that invites God into the parts we'd rather keep hidden — the fear, the control, the pressure to perform.Stef shares what it really looked like to fully surrender her life and business to God, how obedience sometimes led her into quiet, unseen seasons, and why she believes your story matters more than you think. Even the messy parts. Especially the messy parts. We talk about how striving often sneaks in disguised as faithfulness, why surrender doesn't mean giving up but handing over, and how God uses our stories (when shared honestly) to bring hope and healing to others. If you're weary, questioning, or wondering if God can really use your story, this conversation will meet you right where you are.To connect with Stef, head over to https://stefaniegass.com or @stefaniegass on IG!Get Stefanie's Profitable Podcast Bootcamp for FREE with code HANNAH: https://stefaniegass.thrivecart.com/eg-profitable-podcast-bootcamp/?coupon=HANNAHSubmit a question for “Ask Han” here: https://forms.gle/qWGxyy9M5Q5N2tMz9 SUPPORT BY WORDS: https://buymeacoffee.com/bywordsMy favorite Bible studies + devotionals - HANNAHHUGHES10 for 10% off: https://thedailygraceco.com?dt_id=300773 CONNECT:hello@thehannahhughes.comhttps://www.instagram.com/thehannahhughes
Episode 99 If you had told me 15 years ago, or even 5 years ago that I'd be doing a podcast episode on masturbation, I'd never, ever believe you. But here we are, 99 episodes into my podcast having a conversation that I couldn't imagine having. But over the years as I have talked with parents about creating a healthy sexual culture in their homes, one of the most common questions I get is: how do I talk about masturbation with my kids?” So it is something we absolutely need to talk about. But I'll be the first to admit, it is a challenging topic. That's why I appreciate people like Molly Bertles and her boldness and vulnerability in writing an entire book on the topic of masturbation. And more specifically on women and masturbation, which is even less talked about. In fact, the topic of women and masturbation often has so much shame and loneliness attached to it. And that is part of the reason it is hardly ever talked about. Molly bravely and compassionately steps into this topic in her book and in this podcast episode with me. Our goal is to help women find freedom from the shame and the addiction of masturbation and instead experience the goodness God is offering. This episode might be one you need to listen to for yourself, or to offer understanding and hope to a friend, or to equip you to talk about this with your own daughters and sons. I hope you'll listen to this episode and hear in our voices and conversation that you don't have to be embarrassed or uncomfortable talking about this topic. God cares about every part of our lives, our struggles our heartaches, our questions and our confusion. So yes, He cares about this. And we do too. So join us for episode 99, the one where we talk about masturbation. Important things we talk about in this episode: *That kids using masturbation is most often not a sexual act, but simply a kind of self-soothing. *When masturbation does changes into a sexual activity. *How so many of us never had parents or anyone talk about it with us as kids or teens. *The way we act like masturbation is a male problem only and how that impacts women. *Why people use masturbation and how it is often used to numb negative feelings. *How masturbation is unhealthy and even harmful. *How culture tries to make us think masturbation is perfectly fine and healthy. *How masturbation hurts others. *The danger of fantasy and masturbation. *Why the gospel isn't about performance or working for God's love, but accepting the free gift God gave us. *How some people choose masturbation after they've been hurt sexually and how God loves you so much in that place and why there is hope in this place! Resources and other important things mentioned in this episode: *Find Greta's book, It's Time to Talk to Your Kids About Porn here *Quote from Molly's professor: “Sex in marriage is as holy as prayer.” *The 2 lies Satan wants people to believe when they are stuck in sexual sin: “you are uniquely ruined by this and no one can ever find out.” Sam Alberry *“The gospel applies to every part of our life, even our sex life.” Greta Eskridge *We can, through Christ, renew our minds. That is spiritual and scriptural and scientific! Romans 12:2 is a good place to start with this understanding from a scriptural standpoint. *Find more on the topic of women using masturbation and porn in this episode right here that I recorded with Joy Skarka and in Joy's book here. Why are Venezuelans celebrating the collapse of socialism while American leaders are selling it as “compassion”? In this Live Free episode, Pastors Josh Howerton, Carlos Erazo, and Paul Cunningham pull the curtain back on Mamdani's “warmth of collectivism,” to expose the real-world cost of a socialist ideology. They contrast empty political promises with the only freedom that actually delivers, Jesus' declaration from the cross, “It IS finished.” This is a raw, unfiltered conversation about power, control, false hope, and why Christians must think biblically when culture reframes broken ideas as virtue.
Is Jesus “progressive,” or is that a modern political remix of an ancient faith? In this LIVE FREE Bonus Episode, Pastor Josh Howerton respond to a viral Daily Show clip and unpack how Scripture is often twisted in election seasons to serve ideologies rather than truth. He breaks down progressive Christianity, expose common misuses of Matthew 25 and Romans 13, clarify the biblical roles of the family, church, and state, and explain why Christian compassion and government authority are not the same thing. In this LIVE FREE Christmas episode, Pastors Josh Howerton, Carlos Erazo, and Paul Cunningham have an honest, thought-provoking conversation that goes beyond the traditional nativity story, uncovering surprising historical and biblical insights like a Roman coin tied to the word Advent, why the opening of John's Gospel reads like a “new beginning,” and why Jesus was mistaken for a gardener after the resurrection. In this LIVE FREE special episode, Pastor Josh responds to a recent clip featuring Kirk Cameron and his son James discussing annihilationism (the belief that the wicked ultimately cease to exist rather than experience eternal conscious punishment). With pastoral clarity and biblical conviction, this episode walks through what Scripture actually teaches about hell, God's justice, and why Christian doctrine cannot be reshaped by emotion or cultural pressure. This isn't an attack, but a thoughtful, Scripture-centric examination of one of the more complex doctrines in the Bible, and why getting it right matters more than we think.

In this episode of Live Free, Pastors Josh Howerton, Carlos Erazo, and Paul Cunningham uncover the real story behind Christmas!
We often trick ourselves into thinking that compromising on God's Word and His way is just a shortcut to getting what we want faster. It feels harmless to cut a corner here or there to get ahead. But here's the truth: compromise isn't a shortcut; it's like taking a chainsaw to the tree of your life. Compromise doesn't help you grow; it cuts down the very life you want. Every time you choose the easy way over the right way, you aren't speeding things up—you're doing damage to the things you love. The good news is God can heal broken things. When you stop cutting corners and depend on God, you can actually grow strong again.
In this week's episode of the LiberatED Podcast, Kerry McDonald interviews Ali Ghaffari, founder of Divine Mercy Academy, a K–8 classical Catholic school in Pasadena, Maryland, and now Executive Director of the St. John Henry Newman Institute, an organization dedicated to accelerating the renewal of Catholic education worldwide. Ali's path to school founding is anything but ordinary. After graduating from Colby College, he spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy as an F/A-18 fighter pilot before teaching leadership and ethics at the U.S. Naval Academy. Raised without religious belief, Ali experienced a dramatic conversion sparked by reading the Great Books—an encounter that convinced him of the importance of deep intellectual and moral formation. When he couldn't find a classical Catholic school nearby for his children, he joined with other families to start one. *** Sign up for Kerry's free, weekly email newsletter on education trends at edentrepreneur.org. It is easy to feel like faith is just a list of restrictions designed to keep us from having fun, but what if those instructions are actually a map to get us out of prison? In this message, we explore the surprising connection between the ancient story of Passover and the true meaning of Christmas. We often find ourselves stuck in habits, addictions, or toxic patterns that we hate, yet we keep going back to them. We want to be free, but we don't always like the process required to get there. By looking at the story of the Exodus, we see that captivity isn't just about a physical place; it represents the things that trap us today. We discover that God gives us direction not because He is trying to control us, but because obedience leads to freedom. "Those who lack the courage will always find a philosophy to justify it." Many of us struggle with sharing our faith, not because we don't know what to do, but because we simply lack the courage to do it. We often feel like cowards because we can look back on moments where we knew we should have spoken up, but we stayed silent. But transformation is possible. We don't have to be defined by the opportunities we missed last time. In this message, we look at the story of Peter—who went from denying Jesus in fear to speaking with incredible boldness in Acts—to see how the Holy Spirit can change us. Why is it that we can convince people to try a new spot without knowing the address or the menu, yet we feel unqualified to share our faith because we don't have all the answers? We often overcomplicate evangelism by thinking we need to be experts. But sharing Jesus isn't about having answers to all the complicated theological questions; it's about genuinely sharing your story of Jesus rescuing you. When something has transformed you, you naturally talk about it, and that enthusiasm is what makes people go looking for it. You don't need to know everything. You just need to be able to talk about how Jesus has transformed your life. At 12Stone Church, learn how to Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose and Make a Difference.
