Are you believing the Pinterest perfect lie that you are the only one who doesn't have your life all put together? Do you feel like you are dropping most of the balls you might be juggling? If you answered yes to any of these questions then this episode is for you, my friend! I want to preface this by saying: there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with wanting a Pinterest perfect classroom. BUT if it's causing you stress, anxiety and you feel like you're going broke in the process… we should talk about it. So the question is… Is this a self imposed expectation? Is it a societal expectation? Is it a school expectation? I want to remind teachers of this:Your classroom will be amazing no matter what you put up on the bulletin boardsYour classroom will never be a perfect place; you're not perfect and neither are your studentsIf you want to spend money on your classroom, give yourself a reasonable budget so you don't feel like you're going brokeTry to stay away from comparing. You don't know how long it's taken a teacher to have the room set up and decorated the way he/she does. Happy Listening! It's time to get serious…of course that's what we've been doing all season but this week we get serious about perfectionism and “pinterest parenting.” What happens when we set goals and achievements for our kids without reflecting on what our kids need? What happens when we set unrealistic expectations for ourselves as parents? When we demand perfectionism of ourselves, what are we teaching our kids? There are some truths shared today (truths that Tovah wants to ignore). We talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of perfection parenting. We also talk about how we can do things differently. Join us this week as we all work on making sure we can navigate parenthood and life without perfectionism. GO BOLDLY HOMEWORKGrab your journals! If you are a parent, think about how you are parenting right now. Are you pushing your kids to be something or do something that they are not? Do you feel that perfectionism or demanding?Keep journaling and think about your childhood and reflect on what your experience was like growing up? Did you have this kind of perfectionism in your life? (Only do this if it is safe. If not, reach out to a therapist.)Take a minute to journal about your ideal day with your kids and how you would be. Compare this to how you were raised and how you are currently raising your kids. RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THE SHOWDid you enjoy this episode? We would love to hear your thoughts. In this very short episode I rant (unapologetically) about the perfectly curated Pinterest perfect Earth Day Activities that were all over social media. SMH. Le sigh.
As moms we often want to take the weight of the world on to our own shoulders and we don't want to allow others to know that we are struggling. We want people to see the filtered screenshots and edited versions, but life isn't Pinterest perfect! We need to be thankful for the opportunities to grow and the road bumps that challenge us because without those messes we may miss the biggest lessons God has for us to learn!
The Podcast Team is back in front of the mics discussing Holidays with a fistful of moms' questions. Regardless of your situation or plans for this year, join us as the Four share their own struggles and stories of the holiday season, extended family, kids' attitudes, Pinterest Perfect expectations, and Ellen's Thanksgiving day with an overflowing house AND overflowing plumbing.
Do you love decorating for the holidays? We do (or I should say I do)! But decorating takes time, money, and energy! As moms we have very little time (especially over the holiday season), and usually just toss up what we have and call it a day. I have found that decorating for the holidays makes our house feel magical, and we are able to truly enjoy the season. The smell of warm cider or a peppermint candle or a fresh spruce Christmas tree just make the season come alive! In this episode we discuss ways to make decorating easy, fun, and inexpensive. If you don't know where to start just listen in for seven quick tips on how to make decorating your house easy and fun. Grab that notebook and pen, and let's jump in! I pray this blesses you! Do you worry that you don't play enough with your child, or feel bad if playing with them bores you? Or do you play with your children until you're exhausted, leaving little time for yourself? In this episode, I talk to Susie Robbins about the importance of play for our wellbeing - both for adults and for children. You'll get easy tips on how to play without putting pressure on yourself to make it Pinterest Perfect - it is about connection, not perfection, and quality over quantity. Susie Robbins is an advocate for play. She believes in the power of play to help young children learn, to communicate and to make sense of the world around them. She has seen first hand how activity based learning can create a love for learning and deepen a connection between adult and child. We cover: Reengaging disruptive children with activities Self-worth and pride increasing with play Supporting learning through play Social media pressure to play ‘perfectly' Parents feeling like ‘failures' in play Making chores and everyday life into playful moments Reducing battles through playful games and challenges 5 minute play is enough - time limited play Connecting through play and shared activity Alleviating stress/anxiety for adults playing Play DNA - reignite playfulness from childhood The pleasure of play protects our energy Unrealistic expectations on children's attention span Sensory play tips Permission to be a parent, not childcare provider Facilitating independent play Find Susie on Instagram at @resolvetoplay and on her website www.resolvetoplay.com Order my book, The Lasting Connection, here To spend 90 days to develop love and compassion for yourself, join the online course, The Compassionate Couple, here Find me at www.thethomasconnection.co.uk Instagram: @the_thomas_connection Facebook: www.facebook.com/thethomasconnection Pause Purpose Play Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/pausepurposeplay This episode was edited by Emily Crosby Media

Have you ever wanted your preschooler to create a Pinterest-Perfect craft? But instead, you ended up with an epic fail? Okay, it might not have been that dramatic, but it probably wasn't the perfect addition to your art collection. Preschoolers LOVE to participate in art and have so much fun engaging all of their senses in the process. Art for preschoolers is much more about the process than the product and allows your child to explore new mediums and construct new ideas. Understanding creative arts at the preschool level means that you allow your child to use his/her imagination, make choices, and bring their own ideas to life.

“The homeschooling journey doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it shouldn’t be. In a world that wants to tell you “how-to” homeschool better, come and discover that simplifying, letting God lead, and focusing on your family is far greater than any new “method” or "system.” Yvette Hampton talks with return guest Karen DeBeus about her new book, The Simple Homeschool Journey: Building a Family, Not Just a Transcript. Whether or not you can donate, we ask that EVERY listener support the show by sharing it with your friends and family, by leaving a review on iTunes, and by praying for our team. Watch this full interview with Karen DeBeus (over 1 hour) on our YouTube channel. From the book: “Karen shares from her fifteen years of experience as a homeschooling mom. She will help you stay focused on the true goals for your family. Homeschooling is about so much more than just academics. You are building a family, and not just a transcript. It isn’t about a piece of paper that defines your children, but the foundation upon which they stand, that defines them. Marie Evan's motto for her mail-order CBD company, Get Colette, is Define Your Shine! Not only is she a powerhouse for her own CBD business, but she is empowering other women owned businesses in the CBD space. Marie's idea to introduce New England women to the potential CBD can have in their lives sprang from a survey she conducted a few years ago, and her own mother's experience using CBD to sleep. As the daughter of a police officer, her personal transition into the legal cannabis world is only the beginning of the cannabis story she shares with Joyce and Amie. Marie explains how she is incorporating her corporate work experience in the wild-west world of CBD, the creation of her website which launched on November 4, 2019, and how she is creating positive CBD experiences for all her customers. Amie and Joyce talk with Marie about the many amazing products she is supporting and the stories of the women behind the brands. Marie talks about how she explains to her six-year old what cannabis and CBD are and, of course, Marie reveals her favorite way to consume after Amie shares one of her favorite things. _______________________________________________________ SHOW NOTES: 1:50: Get Colette 2:54: Marie's background 3:12: New England Women 4:45: The Survey 5:30: Marie's explanation of CBD 6:20: The Endocannabinoid System 6:54: Do not buy CBD at the gas station! 7:40: Marie's Mom 10:05: Kim Kardashian's CBD baby shower 10:13: CBD sheet and pillow cases, do not buy!! 11:14: Results of Survey 11:41: TRUST 12:48: Old Fashioned Radical Girls 13:13: Who are the women behind the products in the box? 14:54: Pinterest Perfect! 15:20: Know your CEOs 16:32: Pure Bloom 17:42: Cute Hats 18:18: More New England Women 19:25: Plug for smart, science women 20:20: Importance of good skincare 21:07: Milk Makeup Mascara 21:20: Dehiya Lipgloss 22:28: Bath Bombs 23:30: The great bathtub divide! 25:19: The Good Patch! 27:20: Marie's buying decisions for her audience 27:58: Can you use it at soccer practice? 28:21: PACKAGING! 29:08: Luna Volta 32:12: AARP embraces cannabis 32:00: Good product recommendations for Joyce's mom 33:00: Best ways to use CBD 33:40: The Entourage Effect 34:00: The importance of full spectrum 34:21: Motherhood and cannabis 36:00: Cannabis, shame and history 39:00: Big Sister of Boston 40:56: Tony Johnson and Kannibee 42:30: Amie's Favorite Thing: Hi End Pottery 43:21: Hi Pam! 44:18: Marie's favorite way to consume

The only competition you should ever have is with the teacher you were yesterday. In this day and age it is far too easy to compare yourself against other "Pinterest perfect" teachers and classrooms but this comparison can be damaging to your self-belief. This is dangerous as your self-belief as a teacher is what will determine your success. So be the best by competing against yourself. This is between you and you; no one else.

Last year I wrote a book called, Real Homeschool Letting Go of the Pinterest-Perfect and Instagram-Ideal Homeschool. It was all about seeking Jesus above the noise of the world in our homeschools, and not trying to attain what the world says is perfection, but what the Bible does. Well, today I am talking about how those principles apply to all of us. Whether a homeschooler, new mom, grandma, or any other stage of life, we all need to be reminded that Jesus is the only perfect. This world is noisy and is constantly telling us (and showing us online!) how we should be. Yet, those voices can quickly drown out what the Bible says. Life is short. We need to start using our brief time here on earth for real living, and not false ideals. Join me today and let me know what you think about trading in Pinterest-perfect for real life- a life in Christ.
