Welcome back to the podcast where we "help writers write," and today's important subject is how to "Keep It Simple, Silly."We were planning another cross-country trip recently when we realized we were making our lives harder than they needed to be. Not only did we take a step back, we realized that, hey, maybe other writers would be interested in our homegrown solutions to turn complex projects into simple tasks. These are not original ideas by any means, but we stuck a few good ones into this podcast for your listening pleasure and, maybe, your increased sanity and decreased anxiety.Along with planning the trip and doing things on camera, we're writing and publishing almost every day. "Finding Salvation" is available for presale (links below), and the paperbacks should also be out on March 17, including our bookstore. CC is grinding away at her "Restless Spirits" series with a possible publication date of April 2026. And we have more books coming out after those! (Also, did you know we have our own bookstore?)W're having so much fun interviewing other authors about their books and the craft of writing. The first of two recent interviews included VL '"Tori" Stuart, a retired psychologist & author living in Costa Rica, who shared her journey from psychology to writing, her experiences as an expat, and her insights into the dystopian genre (link). On the NV Author Network, Jade Griffin shared her experience and wisdom on the interplay between tabletop gaming and writing. She also highlighted her upcoming projects and reflects on her past works (link). Here are those links to pre-order "Finding Salvation:"AmazonBarnes & NobleGoogleKoboLots going on! When life gets stressful or complicated, I notice a tendency in me (and in some people I know) to make things even more stressful, even more complicated. I don't know why exactly, but I suspect it's because when people are scared, they start scanning for threats and want to resolve them all. It feels protective to try to fix everything. I don't know about you, but for me, that only makes things worse. More in this week's post about what "keeping it simple" means and practical suggestions for doing so.

Let's Keep It Simple AA is growing fast. Meetings are multiplying. The message is spreading beyond anything they imagined. And Bill voices a concern that growth might dilute the heart of the program — that structure, organization, and popularity could eventually replace the spiritual core that saved their lives. Bob listens, then responds calmly. Bob reminds Bill that AA was never meant to be protected by control. It was meant to be protected by principles. If AA stayed grounded in humility, service, and reliance on a Higher Power, it would survive mistakes, disagreements, and even misuse. Bill pushes back — what if people twist it? What if ego takes over? What if the message gets watered down? Bob's answer is simple and steady: AA doesn't belong to them. It belongs to the alcoholics who need it. And those alcoholics will ultimately decide what works and what doesn't. The job isn't to manage outcomes — it's to keep the doors open and the message available. Bill begins to see it. AA doesn't need perfect leadership. It needs faith, responsibility, and simplicity. If the core stays intact — one alcoholic helping another, guided by spiritual principles — the fellowship will correct itself over time. The future of AA, Bob suggests, isn't secured by rules or fear. It's secured by trust — trust in God, trust in the principles, and trust that alcoholics helping alcoholics will find their way.

We often talk about the fireground as a chaotic environment, because it is.But there is a tendency in the modern fire service to meet that chaos with complexity—adding more gadgets, more steps, and more theories to what is, at its heart, a simple physical battle. When the heat is high and visibility is zero, complexity is the enemy. It slows you down. And in this job, slow can be fatal—in fact, it has been. So, how do we strip away the noise and get back to what actually puts the fire out?Today, we're going to discuss the "Keep It Simple" philosophy. We'll talk about why firefighters need to slow down, the specific mechanics of a good hose stretch, and why the most advanced piece of technology on the fireground is still a well-trained firefighter with a nozzle. My guest today believes the answer lies in four simple words: Stretch. Charge. Flow. And Move.Daryl Liggins is a retired Training Captain from the Oakland Fire Department, a department known for its aggressive interior culture and heavy fire duty. Throughout his career, Daryl has been a student of the engine company. He has championed the idea that mastering the basics isn't about being "old school"—it's about being effective.

Morning Mantra: “Just be a good person. Love who you can, help where you can, give what you can.” As humans, we tend to complicate things with our ever-so-busy minds. Life is pretty simple actually. We over analyze relationships. We think helping others must be reciprocal so we make it transactional. Or we worry what we can offer isn't enough.Take your thoughts out of it. Keep it simple.Use an open heart to love- anyone and everyone that needs it.Take your head out of it and use your hands to help- without the thought of what's in it for you.Take your mind out of whether what you can give is enough- just give what you can. When you remove the human traits of the ego your life flows to what matters. This year leave the "e" and just "go" with the flow. #BeAGoodPerson #BeHappy #BeHorsey #BeHippie #HorseHippie #MorningMantra #inspirationalQuotes #MorningMotivation #Equestrian #HorseLover #QuotesToInspire #HorseHippieBrand #HorseHippieBoutique

One our fine contributors to this podcast, Father Bob Kilner, is in the midst of writing his first book entitled "Diary of Donkey Priest."In addition to the book, Father will join me a few times a month on this platform for a collaboration to read from the book and discuss the many topics he addresses for priests, seminarians, and even the laity.Join us for a deeper dive into the priesthood itself and the life of a parish pastor and the highs and lows that surround this vocation.
In a world where complexity often masquerades as sophistication, simplicity becomes a superpower.Nonprofit leaders face an overload of information, needs, and responsibilities. From managing limited resources to engaging donors and measuring outcomes, the temptation to create layered strategies, complex reports, or sprawling programs is real. But, simplicity offers clarity.

Meet our SEO guest experts, Chris Rodgers and Jesse Farley of CSP Agency, discussing the history and future of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).Chris explains that he founded the company in 2012 as SEO Pros, focusing on providing better value to clients and eventually pivoting to a business-centric SEO approach after meeting Jesse. Jesse shares his extensive background in the industry, including co-founding an SEO company in 2000 and his focus on integrating SEO with strategic business goals as an in-house team would. Our conversation also explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on SEO, concluding that older, purely keyword-driven technical SEO is "dead," but a "human-first", audience-aligned approach is more crucial than ever for success with large language models (LLMs). Finally, our guests stress the importance of simplifying SEO concepts for clients and providing measurable business value with CSP Agency (LinkedIn).Glossary of Key Terms in this episodeAI (Artificial Intelligence)Technology that enables computers to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. In the context of the podcast, it refers to systems like ChatGPT that provide conversational answers and are changing how users access information.Answer EngineA system designed to give a direct answer to a question (e.g., "2+2 equals 4") rather than a list of websites. This is contrasted with traditional search engines that provide links for the user to sift through.BacklinkingThe practice of getting other websites to link to your own. The podcast explains that its strategy has evolved from being keyword-focused to being brand-mention-focused.Brand MentionsInstances where a brand name (e.g., "JBL") is mentioned online. This is now seen as a crucial signal of authority and relevance, especially when paired with a sentiment score.Business-First ApproachAn SEO strategy that prioritizes delivering true business value, such as revenue and strategic goals, over simply increasing rankings and traffic.Canonical TagsA type of HTML tag mentioned as part of the technical SEO jargon that can confuse clients who "don't understand what canonical tags mean."Core Web VitalsA set of specific technical performance metrics that Google uses to measure user experience. Jesse dismisses them as largely unimportant except as a minor tie-breaker.CSP AgencyThe company featured in the podcast, co-led by Chris and Jesse, which focuses on a "business-first" and "human-first" approach to SEO.Human-First ApproachAn SEO philosophy focused on understanding and answering the direct, conversational questions of a human audience, rather than targeting the synthesized keywords that search engines use.In-house TeamA company's internal marketing department. Jesse contrasts their strategic role with the typical executional role of an external agency.KISSAn acronym for "Keep It Simple, Stupid." It is the guiding principle for CSP Agency's client education philosophy, emphasizing clarity and the avoidance of jargon.LLMs (Large Language Models)The underlying technology for AI systems like ChatGPT. The podcast stresses that modern SEO must be aligned with how LLMs process information and understand human queries.Meat (or MEAT)Jesse's expansion of Google's E-A-T framework, adding M for Multimedia and E for Engagement to encourage diverse content formats and interactive experiences.SEO (Search Engine Optimization)The practice of optimizing a website and its online presence to rank higher in search engine results. The podcast details its evolution from a technical, keyword-based practice to a strategic, human-centric marketing channel.SEO ProsThe original name of Chris's company when he founded it in 2012.Website MigrationsThe process of moving a website to a new domain, platform, or server. Jesse notes that his agency has saved many clients from "dire straits" during these complex technical processes.XML Feeds / XML IndexTechnical methods for syndicating and indexing content, mentioned as part of the complex back-end of how websites are structured for search engines to crawl.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Next Steps for Digital Marketing + SEO Services:>> Need SEO Services? Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all the advice, routines, and “shoulds” about how to feel better (aka less anxious)? "Sales is not something that we do to someone. When done right, sales is fun, sales when done right is service, sales when done right is service, sales when done right is love. It's something we do for someone." —Johnny-Juan Ortiz Sales gets a bad rap. For many, it feels pushy, sleazy, or manipulative. But what if the truth is the opposite? Real sales is truly about helping someone solve a problem, and the ability to sell is the very skill that keeps doors open, businesses alive, and families thriving. Starting in straight commission sales at 19, Johnny-Juan Ortiz built over three decades of experience where every paycheck depended on his ability to believe in himself first. That journey shaped him into a respected business coach and speaker who now teaches entrepreneurs, leaders, and professionals that selling the right way is service, strategy, and love in action. In this episode, Daniel and Johnny break down why sales is life, how rejection can turn into resilience, the danger of trying to “go it alone,” and why investing in yourself pays the highest dividends. Get ready to rethink sales, money, mentorship, and the basics of building a phenomenal life—all through stories that hit close to home.
