We all hold beliefs that shape the decisions we make every single day.  As young children, our beliefs are internalised, quietly forming the way we see ourselves and the way we interact with the world.  But what if those beliefs aren’t serving you anymore? What if they’re simply not true? Are you believing something to be true that is limiting your potential and holding you back from being aligned with your true self? For most of us, the answer is yes. Perhaps it was something someone told you when you were young, or a generational belief structure that exists in your whole family or community.  Wherever it came from, the good news is that you can change your belief structure. You have the power to realign your thoughts, overcome those beliefs and choose to believe something that would serve you better. Our incredible guest today is Kristine Kolzing and I’m so excited to dive into this topic with her. Kristine is a transformational mindset expert who guides wellness entrepreneurs to step into their most powerful selves. She is a master success coach and CEO of The Alignment Tribe, an NLP & Reiki practitioner, certified pilates instructor, health and wellness coach and an all round beautiful and inspiring person. How To Deal With Change

I feel like for the longest time, I was really resisting change. On the surface, I may have seemed like I was relaxed, going with the flow and able to adapt, but on the inside I needed to feel in control. I needed to feel like I knew what was coming next and that I had a plan. During this ever-changing time that we’re currently living through, I’ve very drastically felt that all that I was holding onto, was forced to break away. And that has been very uncomfortable. Yes, change is uncomfortable. Most of us enjoy feeling safe and secure, so when our need for some sense of predictability is threatened, we resist.  What I’m starting to really understand is how inevitable and necessary change really is. We are always in motion. Nothing is really constant and it’s okay to feel a little unsure about what may be to come. I’m not  is a really hard concept to truly accept. Change isn’t the problem.  Our resistance to change is where the discomfort stems from. Find me over on vitinablumenthal.com

5 Ways Gratitude Can Make You A Better Entrepreneur with Vivian Kaye

In a world where so much is out of your control, it’s all too easy to find yourself in a place of stress and anxiety. There is sickness and disease, there is poverty and corruption and if you continue to focus on these things, you can quickly become overwhelmed. We now know the negative impacts of stress on our bodies, but if you don’t intentionally focus on something else, that stress will continue to imbed its effects into your mind and body. What can you do to make a positive change? You might not be able to control global events, but you can control the way you approach them. You can control the way you think, the way you speak, and the way you treat others.  You might feel like you don’t have control over events in your life, in your relationships or your business, but you do. We all have the power to choose what happens in our lives and it starts with GRATITUDE. There are numerous studies about the power of positive thinking but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. When things are falling to pieces, it can feel like a battle to break out of negative mindsets and dismantle the power of the inner critic. Our guest today is Vivian Kaye, Founder and CEO of KinkyCurlyYaki and a woman who manifests the power of gratitude. Vivian first discovered the power of gratitude in January 2019 when she started using a ‘5 minute gratitude journal’. Finding herself in a low place, she realized that she needed to change something and decided to make the gratitude journal part of her daily routine. By the end of the year, she was amazed at the success and abundance that she had experienced and upon reflection she realized it was all attributed to her practice of gratitude. Vivian shares with us 5 amazing tips of how practicing gratitude will impact your life for the better. We’ve all heard about self care, but this is more than just massages and candlelit baths.  Gratitude goes beyond the external and into the soul, a reprogramming of your subconscious. When you practice gratitude, you will experience a true manifestation of success, abundance and happiness in your life. The outworking of this is immeasurable. What better way to change the world than to change yourself first?   LINKS WE MENTIONED: Vivian Kaye’s 7 Day Gratitude Challenge Vivian Kaye instagram: @itsviviankaye

Why It’s So Important To Build Community with Alexandria Wynter Russell and Anna Laura Sommer from She Shines

Take stock for a moment and think about what your community looks like.  Who are the people you really do life with? Are you surrounded by people who encourage you, challenge you and share your passions? You might already be blessed with a collection of like minded souls around you, or perhaps, you might still be searching for that sense of community, that sense of belonging that is inherent in the human psyche. No woman is an island. You can’t walk through life and achieve success without a community of like minded people around you who share your enthusiasm, understand your mission and support you in where you want to go. And it goes both ways. When you walk in community, you are presented with an amazing opportunity to give to those around you, to help them grow and see them succeed. Our special guests today live and breathe community and understand what it takes to build a successful one. Alex and Anna Laura met on Instagram after mutual friends suggested they would hit it off. Soon discovering that they shared many passions and were walking somewhat of a parallel journey, they decided to join forces. This resulted in the birth of ShexShines, a platform for multi-passionate women to connect, learn and grow together. Understanding the deep need for community themselves, they embedded three core values into the foundations of ShexShines; Connection, Community and Girl Talk.  The way in which Alex and Anna Laura built their friendship was something they wanted to pass along to other women. They wanted others to experience the benefits of true authentic connection. In this episode, Alex and Anna Laura unpack why it’s so important to have a community of like minded people around you and how the journey of self discovery is crucial in helping you find the people who truly make you shine. Community as we know it is changing. Social distancing has changed everything. To walk in community in this day and age, you must take the opportunity to reflect on what it is that you really want for your life.  Who are the people you want to surround yourself with? You don’t have to find people in the same city or even the same time zone. What you need are people whose hearts and minds are aligned, who share your passions and understand your purpose. When you find those people, there is no stopping you.   BOOKS WE MENTION: The One Thing - Gary Keller & Jay Papasan LINKS: Website: https://www.shexshines.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/shexshines/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/shexshines

How To Boost Your Impact Through Servant Leadership with Alexis Dean

The value of a human being can never be underestimated.  Imagine what it would be like to go to work and really be seen, really be understood and valued as an individual with purpose, not just as an employee.  What if you could run your business powered by a team of people who invest their heart and soul into what you do because they feel empowered to be all they can be? If we think of leadership as being at the top of the ladder, it can quickly lead to a very isolating and emotionally demanding place. And for those at the bottom, they can often feel forgotten and undervalued.  No wonder so many businesses are struggling. Perhaps that’s not the only way to do it. Perhaps the age-old triangle can be flipped and the employer can start working for the employee, and that’s just what we’ll be discussing on today’s episode. Alexis Dean is the founder of Dovetail Summit, a global community of women who work together to empower fellow female entrepreneurs.  She has introduced me to so many amazing people through her incredible network, many of whom I have had on the Soul Compass podcast already. Alexis started her journey as an entrepreneur in the corporate training and leadership space.  From facilitating events, running corporate team building to management roles and starting businesses, she was doing it all.  But no one can do it alone and that’s when Dovetail was established. Struggling with the demanding nature of running her own business, working 24/7 and coming under financial and emotional pressures, Alexis realised the need to have a community of entrepreneurs alongside her.  People who she could share with, learn from and grow with. It’s a great honour to have Alexis with us today as we talk about Servant Leadership and how changing your mindset from “you work for me” to “I work for you” is crucial to running a successful and flourishing business.  The pillars of Servant Leadership are invaluable and will help you to run a business that doesn’t just survive, it thrives. What does it mean to be a good leader? How do you let go and allow your team to work autonomously, enabling their imagination and ideas to flourish? In this era of technology and global community, it’s imperative to value the individual.  It’s imperative that we value the human. Does Saying No Make You a Bad Person with Paul Baranowski

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 10, 2020 38:11

You are valuable. Your life is valuable and how you choose to spend your time is crucial to living the life you desire. Time is the most precious resource you have. It's the only element you can never buy more of, or get back, no matter your wealth. Likewise, no amount of wealth or social status escalates the value of anyone else’s time over your own. What is under your control is how you use the time you are given. Sometimes, to protect our cherished time, it becomes necessary to set boundaries with people, purposefully limiting the amount of time any one person can have from you. This is especially important with those who will TAKE and TAKE and TAKE until there's nothing left of you. Society has created this fine line between asserting yourself and offending someone and people get uncomfortable with changes to the status quo. Setting boundaries for your self-protection may lead to some push back... sometimes, unexpectedly, from the people you care about the most. In this episode, you'll learn how to "say no" in a positive way with Paul Baranowski. Paul, a deeply spiritual and dedicated Buddhist practitioner, began his journey of self-discovery about 16 years ago after experiencing a prolonged period of disconnect. Like so many, he has walked the corporate path but left feeling as if there was more that he needed to be doing. More that he needed to be creating, and a deeper connection that he needed to find within himself. He learnt and mastered meditation with the help of many incredible teachers, and now has a knack for applying these teachings to modern-day society. This method of mindfulness was a crucial tool for a self-confessed introvert and enabled him to find a way to connect with himself better and also with those around him. Today we speak in great depth about the different ways boundaries can be set within your relationships, within yourself, and why this is truly a magnificent practice to do for yourself. Not only will you benefit from setting clearer boundaries, but those around you will benefit, even if to start with it is exceedingly uncomfortable. After all, what is the point of spreading yourself so thin and saying “yes” to everything that comes your way? Does anyone win in the end? No one gets the best of you, and you certainly don’t get the best of yourself. It’s so important to think about the life you’re trying to create for yourself, the people you want to surround yourself with, and what is truly within your capacity. You can only do so many things well. Not everything needs to be done now, and not everything needs to be done by you. TOPICS DISCUSSED AND WHEN TO FIND THEM [08:32]: Paul’s origin story [10:42]: Saying “No” is an example of boundary setting for yourself [11:42]: Exploring the difference between setting boundaries and making demands [12:12]: Boundaries make a person feel protected. With all the incredible advances in technology comes a never-ending struggle to tend to your endless notifications. In the workplace, especially the freelancing and entrepreneur arena, this translates to being reachable 24-7 and raises expectations of clients to near unrealistic levels. If you’re a client-centred service you might have experienced personal sacrifice to satisfy these demands. This comes at the cost of mental health and manifests as worker burnout. Burnout at work is a prevalent but under-discussed topic. It’s often unrecognised until you’re in crisis and can disable the overwhelmed worker with flow-on effects felt particularly hard by freelancers. Each and every one of us, either directly or indirectly, has seen the effects this can have and a common question from the time-poor worker emerges: how do I deal with and prevent it? Enter Rachel Kelly: a long-standing friend and self-proclaimed Jill-of-all-trades, Rachel has enjoyed a multitude of jobs in freelance graphic design, social media marketing and copywriting before a travel writing job gave her the taste of an office-less lifestyle - one she found too delicious to give up. She embarked on her own as an entrepreneur freelancer but found she missed the comradery and social aspect of an office environment and was underwhelmed with her sad office parties of one. Around this time, a salaried dream job was withdrawn at the last minute leading to job stress though with the silver lining of a newfound sense of self-determination. Through her own patronage of co-working spaces, she identified an area of need for like-minded women paving the way for the foundation of Make Lemonade: a Toronto-based co-working space for entrepreneurial women. How have you added value to someone’s life today? Whether it be a friend, a colleague, or a client, have you provided them with something that cost you nothing, but provided value to their life in some way. This is a noble goal. To feel like you have information to share and you can be of service to others, you first have to look inwards and assess where your strengths are. Can you be of service to others in a meaningful way? Honestly, no matter what your skillset, there is always someone that you can help in some way. There is always a way to make someone else’s day a little brighter. My guest today, Tahani Aburaneh lives and breathes this ethos. From the very moment she was born, Tahani had to overcome such adversity. She was born in a refugee camp in the Middle East, was arranged to be married at just 15 years old and was forced to move to Canada as a result. Then after 22 years of marriage, Tahani found herself dealing with a divorce and had two young kids to take care of. Instead of wallowing in self-pity and negative thoughts, Tahani learned how to hustle her butt off and has built an empire on real estate investing. She focuses on helping females achieve financial freedom and the importance of educating themselves to ensure they are never reliant on anyone other than themselves. Allowing yourself to be still and focus only on the here and now, is definitely no easy task, but with practice, you really do start to see a shift in your emotional state. Your focus is better, your mental state is calmer and among so many other benefits, you’re just able to process your emotions easier on a daily basis. This focus on your emotions and the science behind why meditation works so well is where we dive in to today’s episode with my guest Dr. Dan Siegel. I’m so pleased to welcome such a distinguished guest onto the Soul Compass podcast today. Dr. Siegel is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and the founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA. An award-winning educator, he is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and recipient of several honorary fellowships. Dr. Siegel is also the Executive Director of the Mindsight Institute, an educational organization, which offers online learning and in-person seminars that focus on how the development of mindsight in individuals, families and communities can be enhanced by examining the interface of human relationships and basic biological processes. Finding The Guru Within with Erin Doppelt

Think about this for a minute with me. If you had to pick one person to follow and learn from every day, who would that person be? The answer will be vastly different for each and every one of you I’m sure, but I’d be interested to know how many of you simply thought to trust and rely on yourself among all others. We talk in our society about the importance of mentors, surrounding yourself with positive people, studying or finding spiritual awakening from spiritual leaders or gurus. Then on a base level -listening to your parents, your grand-parents, your teachers. The list of people in your life right now that you could learn from if you really sat down and thought about it, is huge. And yet, how many opinions do you actually need? How many thoughts or feelings do you need to take into consideration? How many teachings do you need to shape your own personal development journey. This is one of many very interesting topics we dive into today on the Soul Compass Podcast with my guest, Erin Doppelt. Erin is a highly fascinating individual with a self-discovery journey unlike many that I’ve encountered. Her travels, studies and life experiences have brought her to a place where her mind is completely open to the unique opportunities that come her way, and her ability to verbalise how these experiences have shaped her is inspiring. Sometimes when I’m sitting at my desk and working away, I start to feel tense. Really tense. I pause and wonder why this anxiety is creeping in and when I stop to assess my body, I realise that my shoulders are scrunched up around my neck, I’m slouching and I’m clenching my jaw. My mind has wandered and I’ve been taken to a place I don’t like. I take a breath, recenter myself and start to feel the tension drifting away. This is a constant practice. Do you ever get the feeling that you’re not really excelling at anything? You’re being pulled in different directions and you’re juggling so many commitments at once that it’s hard to know what’s more important. It feels like you’re doing “okay” in all your endeavours, but you’re not achieving the results you were hoping for. How do you get to a place where you’ve achieved that healthy balance? The place where you’re eating well, you’re sleeping well, you’re kicking your career goals and you’re just…living well. This is a question that my guest today, Joy McCarthy knows well. Joy is an incredible business woman running her own deliciously inspiring company, Joyous Health. Joyous Health is the ongoing story of how one woman took her passion for natural health and not only used it to heal her own health issues, but to also inspire and teach others that they can take charge of their own health joyously, mindfully, and naturally. Although Joy and her wonderful Joyous team have built up a super successful company, she acknowledges that it wasn’t always like this. There were a lot of times in the early days of starting this business that Joy admitted to being an absolute workaholic. Working nights, weekends and just hustling her butt off. Even though she thrives on being busy and relishes in the opportunity to overcome hurdles, learning to switch off and relax was a skill that had to be learned. You can’t keep going, and going, no matter how much you love something without eventually burning out. You need to allow your body time to rest, relax and rejuvenate. There are bound to be moments in our lives where we think, “What is the point of all this?” We’re stuck in a rut of going through the motions, the days turn into weeks and months, and we get a little lost. Maybe we’ve moved away from the things that brought us true joy, or maybe we weren’t quite sure what they were to begin with. It can be hard to really step inside ourselves and discover what our true passions are and to feel truly that your life has meaning. My guest today, Jill Valentine believes that one of the biggest proponents to living a life of purpose is in the service of others. After returning from a transformative volunteering trip overseas many years ago, Jill was struggling to find the same sense of purpose on her own soil. Her desire to help others was so strong, but she struggled to see how she could make a difference in a land of such abundance. Over time and with conscious planning, Jill and her good friend Nicole Hrinco founded UGO Travel For Change, and has spent thousands of hours volunteering around the globe while using her skills as a life coach, to create and inspire change makers. Dealing with Addiction and Putting Yourself First with Lisa Carpenter

Our fast-paced lives create so many opportunities for addiction to rear its ugly head. It can be difficult to recognize when we need to address it, or what the problem even is. When does a change in behavior or mindset become necessary not just to survive, but to thrive? The catalyst for change occurred for my guest, Lisa Carpenter when her husband went off to rehab. Lisa was a successful life coach, had a 6-month-old baby, two older boys and all of a sudden, her world was turned upside down. She had to stop and take a good look at why this was in her life. Lisa believes that there are no accidents and that everything is in your life for a reason. She had to ask herself how a smart woman like herself, ended up in a relationship with an addict. After a lot of soul-searching, Lisa started to understand that she herself had an addiction. She was addicted to control and was highly co-dependent. In all of Lisa’s past relationships, she was attracted to partners that needed “fixing” and had issues of low self-worth. Lisa needed a project. She thrived on it. The downside of this was that she never put herself first. Through the counseling that Lisa went through to help her husband in his healing journey, Lisa was finally dealing with her own self-worth issues. Lisa Carpenter is a successful coach for high-achievers and has been working in the field for over 20 years. Her program, Full Frontal Living encourages her clients to slow down and pay attention to how they're feeling so they can stop pushing their way through life. So they can get present and take control of their physical and emotional well-being. To learn more about Lisa and her program, head to her website.
