In episode 307, Lisa invites listeners to explore the depth of their inner world with the timeless fable of the two wolves, drawing on her own journey and her extensive coaching experience.Lisa shares both the classic and extended versions of the "Two Wolves" fable, unpacking how this story relates to our daily choices, emotions, and personal growth. Instead of seeing the “Dark Wolf” (our challenges, doubts, and tough emotions) as something to ignore, Lisa encourages us to acknowledge and understand both our dark and light sides. Ultimately, this episode is a powerful reminder that we all possess the incredible power to choose which parts of ourselves we nurture—but also how much richer life can be when we accept and learn from all of our internal experiences.Key Highlights:You Always Have a Choice: Lisa reminds us that the life we're living is the result of countless choices, both conscious and unconscious. Where we put our attention and energy—whether it's on positivity and growth or on negative thought loops—shapes our experience and outcomes.Beyond “Good” and “Bad” Sides: The extended version of the Two Wolves fable reveals that both our dark and light sides have gifts to offer. Instead of starving one side, we're invited to feed both, gaining courage, tenacity, compassion, and self-compassion in the process.Embracing All of Yourself: Lisa models how to integrate, value, and lovingly acknowledge every part of who we are—including the parts we often try to hide or suppress. This acceptance is where true peace, ease, and fulfillment are found. The Power to Change Your Story: Suffering and struggle may seem like our default settings, but by choosing to focus on what we want to create (rather than what we wish to avoid), we empower ourselves to change—and truly thrive.Real Transformation: Lisa's episode is not just theory; she shares personal examples and client experiences that show just how much is possible when we honor all of ourselves, create new habits, and choose courage over comfort. This episode is more than just a story; it's about the freedom that comes when you realize your power to choose and start integrating all parts of yourself. Lisa encourages you to reflect: How can you nurture both your dark and light wolves—and what could become possible if you do?Grab your earbuds, get cozy (or go out on a walk!), and let Lisa guide you to greater self-understanding and empowerment. Welcome back to the Full Frontal Living Podcast! I'm Lisa Carpenter, and I'm so excited to dive into this empowering episode with you. Today, we're talking all about choice—how it's the key to transforming our lives from the inside out. This is one of my favorite topics because I truly believe we all have the power to choose, to shift, and to create the life we want. What we cover in today's episode: A New Setting and Mindset: In this episode, I'm coming to you from the beautiful outdoor space in Tulum, surrounded by incredible women at a masterminding retreat. The energy here is electric, and I'm feeling so inspired. It's such a reminder of the power of the environment and the people we surround ourselves with. The energy you choose to be in will shift you to a whole new level. Beyond the Surface: Let's get real. My coaching approach goes way beyond the surface. I don't just listen to words—I listen to the energy behind the words. Intuition is a huge part of how I work with my clients. I help them tap into their own truth, and from there, radical transformation happens. You can reshape your life when you get to the core of your emotional struggles and give them the attention they deserve. Personal Growth Journey: I've had my own share of struggles with self-worth. Despite some external successes, I often felt like I didn't truly belong or wasn't enough. But I went on a journey to find healing, and it led me to a major breakthrough where I was finally able to celebrate my own value. This episode dives into that journey—how I got to a place of truly owning who I am and showing up authentically. The Power of Letting Go: One of the most powerful tools for transformation is the ability to let go. Letting go of old stories, limiting beliefs, and narratives that don't serve us anymore. I use a metaphor about training a puppy to explain how you can retrain your mind and silence those negative voices. Once you recognize these stories, you can choose to release them. Finding Fulfillment: Are you chasing success but not feeling fulfilled? Let's talk about it. We often focus on external validation, but true fulfillment comes from a deep connection with ourselves. I'm challenging you to reflect on what success really means and whether it's aligned with your values. When we shift the focus inward, the transformation is real. Transformation Through Vulnerability: True transformation happens when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable. It's about being present with our pain, sitting with it, and letting it guide us to healing. It's not easy, but it's worth it. I'm here to help you move through the hard truths and transform your suffering into growth. If any part of this episode resonates with you, I invite you to take that courageous step toward deeper transformation. You can connect with me through my website or social media, and let's start exploring how to move you forward. Remember, this year can be a turning point for you, and it all starts with making the choice to step into your own power. Lisa shares actionable steps to create and honor boundaries in a way that nurtures both yourself and your relationships. Sustainable Success: Get practical tips on how to manage your energy, not just your time, so you can achieve your goals while feeling good about the process. Welcome back to another episode of the Full Frontal Living podcast! In episode 294, we're revisiting one of the most powerful concepts on the journey of personal growth and healing: the power of choice and taking responsibility for your life. Join Lisa as she shares personal stories and real-life examples of how she learnt to take full responsibility for her life, and how it's been a game-changer in her own growth. Key Takeaways: Personal Growth Starts With You: We all have the ability to shape our lives, but it starts with taking full responsibility for where we are right now. Personal transformation doesn't happen by accident. It's about understanding what you truly desire and committing to it, no matter how messy or uncomfortable it gets. Vulnerability and Asking for Help: You don't have to do this alone. Coaches, therapists, and a solid support system are absolute game-changers when it comes to healing and growth. You can't do it by yourself, and that's more than okay. We all need people to help guide us through the tough stuff. Being vulnerable and letting others in has been key to my healing journey. You don't have to do it alone. Commit to Self-Care: I'm not talking about bubble baths here. I'm talking about real self-care: nutrition, sleep, exercise. These things are non-negotiable if you want to thrive. If you're neglecting these basics, your healing journey is going to be a lot harder. Face Your Fears: Being resilient doesn't mean just pushing through. It means being present with your fears and challenges and transforming them into opportunities for growth. I've faced fears head-on in my life, and I'll tell you: you come out the other side stronger and more empowered. Building True Resilience: Resilience is about flexibility—emotionally, mentally, and physically. It's not about “grin and bear it” or pushing yourself into burnout. It's about being able to bounce back without losing yourself along the way. Break Free from Unhelpful Patterns: We often turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms (like overworking) to avoid emotions. But real growth happens when you feel the emotion and move through it without using work, food, or other distractions as a crutch. The bottom line: You have the power to choose how you respond to your life. Healing and transformation come when you take responsibility, embrace vulnerability, and lean on the people around you. If I can do it, so can you. Let's keep going, keep evolving, and create the lives we know we're meant to live. Let's make 2025 the best year of our lives. Resources: Interested in working with Lisa? The balance of personal growth and contributing to a thriving romantic relationship is all about being comfortable in your own skin, without seeking external validation, yet embracing our innate need for connection. It's independence and interdependence…but not co-dependence. I'm such a believer in this that I co-wrote an entire book about it called “You Grow Me” (link to buy below). This episode is a cross-podcast with Lisa Carpenter's “Full Frontal Living” podcast (find it here). Lisa is a remarkable coach who helped me through one of the most challenging periods of my life (I tell that story in this episode). In this episode, Lisa and I talk about: Creating safety within: the foundation of self-connection Self-discovery and healing from trauma The impact of childhood experiences on adult relationships Navigating jealousy and building trust The gender gap in personal development Detachment Why a healthy relationship can be as confronting as a traumatic one Learning to listen to your intuition The presence of exes in a new relationship The grief of finally getting what you want Jealousy in a relationship Taking personal responsibility for everything in your relationship My new book “You Grow Me: The Next Level Human Philosophy of Love, Sex and Romantic Connection” co-written by Dr. Jade Teta (Next Level Human podcast) is available now! The Power of Choice: Why asking "why" is the WORST question you could ever ask yourself In episode 258 of the Full Frontal Living podcast, Lisa emphasizes the power of choice and the detrimental effects of constantly asking "why" in self-reflection. Lisa begins by sharing her commitment to going back to her spontaneous podcasting roots and the realization that she has been overthinking her messages due to the pressure of video recording and societal expectations of appearance. She challenges listeners to examine how often they hold themselves back from showing up authentically due to self-imposed paradigms and the need to conform to external standards. Lisa delves into the negative impact of asking "why" questions, explaining how they keep individuals anchored in the past and obstruct their ability to move forward. She encourages listeners to shift their focus from dwelling on the "why" to making conscious choices about who they want to become. The episode highlights the tendency for individuals to use "why" questions as a means of self-sabotage, keeping themselves stuck and avoiding taking action. Lisa underscores the importance of questioning the true benefits of constantly asking "why" and the role of self-judgment in this pattern. Throughout the episode, Lisa shares personal experiences and coaching insights, stressing the significance of moving away from the "why" mindset and embracing a forward-facing approach to personal growth and decision-making. Listeners are encouraged to release the grip of "why" questions and instead consider alternative inquiries that empower them to take action and create the transformations they desire. Lisa highlights the need for radical honesty and self-awareness in acknowledging the benefits individuals derive from their choices, even in the face of familiar suffering. Join Lisa on this transformative journey as she explores the power of choice and the liberation that comes from relinquishing the binds of "why" questioning. Welcome back to another episode of the Full Frontal Living podcast. Today, Lisa is diving deep into emotional bypassing also known as toxic positivity. This is a common behavior that many of us engage in without even realizing it. In episode 247, Lisa will be exploring what emotional bypassing is and why it's so important to recognize and address it in our lives. It's undeniable that the world is going through some incredibly challenging times. As someone who deeply feels the weight of these events, she understands firsthand the struggle of navigating such heavy emotions. In her own journey, she's often found herself trying to escape the pain by getting lost in her thoughts, attempting to rationalize and understand it all. But the truth is, there are some things that we will never fully comprehend, like violence, hatred, and cruelty. However, in times like these, it becomes even more crucial to lean into the foundational principles of emotional resiliency that she teaches. It's about finding ways to support our emotional well-being, especially when we're faced with such overwhelming circumstances. And this brings us to the heart of today's discussion: emotional bypassing and toxic positivity. I was inspired to explore this topic after coming across a thought-provoking post by The Holistic psychologist. She eloquently articulated the concept of emotional bypassing as a coping mechanism, particularly through toxic positivity. Gratitude is a powerful tool that can help shift our perspective, and there's a difference between using gratitude as a way to avoid or bypass our true emotions and being willing to sit with and experience those uncomfortable feelings. Why do people resort to emotional bypassing? It stems from being disassociated from our own emotions, because of the difficulty in sitting with the heavier, darker emotions that make us uncomfortable. And in a culture that glorifies chronic positivity and denies the existence of negative emotions, it's easy to see why bypassing becomes a prevalent coping mechanism. Throughout this episode, Lisa explores the signs of emotional bypassing and its impact on ourselves and our relationships. She approaches this discussion with curiosity, kindness, and compassion, recognizing that we've all been guilty of emotional bypassing at some point in our lives. It's time to shift the focus from judgment to understanding as we delve deeper into the journey of emotional resilience. So get ready to discover the tools and strategies to conquer your fears and doubts and take control of your life. Let's dive in! [00:00:36] Taking responsibility for fear and doubt is crucial. Regardless of how successful you may be, these emotions will always arise. Learning how to effectively deal with them is essential for personal growth. Moving past fear requires a strategy. In this episode, Lisa will provide the tool she uses personally to navigate through fear and doubt. [00:03:54] Fear is meant to keep you safe, but can't differentiate between real and imagined threats. Determine if fear is genuine by distinguishing between real dangers and imagined scenarios in your mind. Fear and doubt aim to protect you. [00:06:21] Naming and understanding fear; questioning worst-case scenario. [00:09:21] The best thing is to see how crazy our fear is, and not give emotions too much meaning. Diffuse fear, doubt, and laugh at ourselves because life is meant to be fun. Most fears are just made up. [00:14:37] The process helps to take action, laugh at oneself, and live fully. [00:15:33] Partner with emotions, listen, distill. Create your desired life. In this inspiring episode #236 of the Full Frontal Living™ podcast, Lisa shares her perspective on a common but limiting pattern of thinking – the "when-then" mindset. Many of us are guilty of postponing our desires and aspirations, waiting for the "perfect moment" or conditions to be met before we give ourselves permission to enjoy what we want. Lisa draws from personal experiences, revealing how she fell into this trap and how it kept her from realizing her desires, from taking time off to making long-awaited purchases. Lisa dives into the topic of self-acknowledgment, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and honoring one's own achievements. She also discusses the fallacy of waiting for the "perfect" condition to seek help or support, and how immediate action can accelerate your progress towards your goals. What is one 'when-then' belief you're ready to let go of? How will you say 'YES' to yourself and bring what you desire into your life today? There are still two spots left in the Full Frontal Living Collective 6-Month Container that's launching in September 2023. Over the last few months, I've really been exploring what really lights me up in my work. While helping teachers bring the joy of personal art connection to their students has been wonderful, I also know that I want to teach again and be in conversations about art rather than just helping others facilitate them. To that end, I'm offering a new program on November 8 that's not just for teachers, it's for anybody. As a precursor to this, I did an interview with a friend and colleague of mine, Lisa Carpenter, on her podcast called Full Frontal Living. I've known her for several years and after the interview, I realized that I really wanted to share this conversation with you too. So in this episode, Lisa interviews me about making personal connections with art as a tool for self care and healing. I also share a bit about the upcoming program, Art Connection Circle, and walk her through an interpretation exercise of Miquel Barceló's art, Sopa d'Europa. 4:44 - I discuss my deeply emotional connection with art 8:28 - Art's ability to allow you feel safe in your feelings 10:11 - How to start thinking about art as a way to practice self-care 13:25 - The tendency of different forms of art to meet you wherever you are in your life 18:08 - Why even the works of art that bore or repel you are worth exploring 22:24 - Approaching self-care and art in a different way 27:50 - Lisa makes a personal connection with art live on the podcast 38:51 - What's different for Lisa after connecting with Miquel's artwork 41:43 - Where the real meaning behind any work of art can be found 45:15 - How art can serve as a safety net for hard conversations Transcript at https://artclasscurator.com/84-joy-of-art-connection/
Ciara is joined this week by good friend and colleague Lisa Carpenter. Lisa is an author, coach, and host of the Full Frontal Podcast. She shares her own story in deciding to give up alcohol, and how many of our addictions today are minimized or made to seem just part of mom culture or social media. She and Ciara also talk about learning to feel and validate your emotions rather than numbing them, and how we can get clear on what limiting beliefs are holding us back from living our biggest and best life. Lisa has over 20 years of coaching experience, along with an extensive background in nutrition, fitness, and helping people develop an inner sense of responsibility and resilience. In this episode, you will learn more about:As a society, we have not been taught how to manage our emotions and stress, and it's more clear than ever after this year that we are in serious need of help as a society and individuals. Whether it's food, alcohol, spending, or being addicted to work, everyone has something that is their go to drug of choice. Some are deemed acceptable by society while others are more overt. Ciara talks about why she will have a glass of wine now and then with no guilt or regret, while Lisa shares the reasons that she decided to give up alcohol. When you feel neutral about something, you can really enjoy it for what it is rather than using it as a way to numb, escape, or push down your emotions. Lisa shares how she figured out that drinking wasn't aligning with her highest values, and she and her husband took on a change of how they viewed and labeled themselves. It is our responsibility to be with the emotions we are navigating. What we try to avoid by drinking is usually the connection and deeper relationships we are actually seeking. You can fight for your limitations, but it requires self parenting and taking responsibility over your choices. So often we are making light of people's illness, especially with humor and through social media. Lisa's tips for beginning to pattern interrupt your habits and replace them with ones that feel healthier and more sustainable. Our fast-paced lives create so many opportunities for addiction to rear its ugly head. It can be difficult to recognize when we need to address it, or what the problem even is. When does a change in behavior or mindset become necessary not just to survive, but to thrive? The catalyst for change occurred for my guest, Lisa Carpenter when her husband went off to rehab. Lisa was a successful life coach, had a 6-month-old baby, two older boys and all of a sudden, her world was turned upside down. She had to stop and take a good look at why this was in her life. Lisa believes that there are no accidents and that everything is in your life for a reason. She had to ask herself how a smart woman like herself, ended up in a relationship with an addict. After a lot of soul-searching, Lisa started to understand that she herself had an addiction. She was addicted to control and was highly co-dependent. In all of Lisa’s past relationships, she was attracted to partners that needed “fixing” and had issues of low self-worth. Lisa needed a project. She thrived on it. The downside of this was that she never put herself first. Hey hey everyone and welcome to episode 1 of the Full Frontal Living Podcast. My name is Lisa Carpenter and I'm a master coach, emotional resiliency expert and bestselling Amazon author here to disrupt the conversation about what it means to matter in your own life. I've been a coach for almost 2 decades and during this time I've experienced a ton of personal and professional growth and witnessed radical physical and emotional transformations in my clients. This podcast is a platform for me to share stories, perspectives, insights and even my tear and tantrum moments on how to have a relationship with yourself that will take you from being a burnout high achieving, over do-er, to someone who lives a Full Frontal life that focuses on doing less better and who you are BEing in the world. We're going to stop being human DO-ings and embrace more BEing. I'm here to disrupt the conversation about self care and look at what this means for you. Self care isn't something DO but who you're willing to become and the behaviours and beliefs you're willing to embody. I'm here to talk about why high achievers typically put themselves last and how you can love what you do but love yourself more. This isn't going to be a conversation about mani's and pedi's but a deeper dive into why you're struggling to matter more in your life. Why we've made doing more, achieving more, working hard and chasing success something we take pride in but rarely celebrate. I want to have the conversation about why we're throwing ourselves under the bus physically and emotionally to do the things we love but aren't stopping to assess if we are loving the things we're doing and what it's costing us. What exactly are we striving for and what if fulfillment can't be found in another certificate on the wall, the perfect home, weight loss, your next accomplishment, the perfect kids or marriage or the amount of money you have in the bank. I'm here to call bullshit on all the behaviours you're stuck in to avoid feeling bad and to try to outrun the unconscious stories you're telling yourself. Every habit and behaviour you have is driven by how you think and feel about yourself, however unless you slow down and get curious about what these are and how you're actually feeling you're going to continue to feel stuck, exhausted and frustrated. You'll keep hating on your body, struggling in your work, wrestling with debt and your money, never feeling like you have enough time, never feeling good enough and swinging back and forth between loving your family and wanting to run far far away. I'm here to disrupt the status quo and challenge you to see your life differently. I want you to see YOU differently. I want you, my dear listener, to start asking yourself better questions so you can cultivate a deeper more connected relationship with yourself. Full Frontal Living demands you take responsibility for you life and no longer live by your circumstances. To all of my Entrepreneurs out there, have you ever thought: “What is the secret to that person’s successful life AND business? What is different about them?”. Well I am right there with you! These exact thoughts led me down an unexpected but exciting path that changed the way I run my business and enhanced the impact that I have in the world. Today’s Epic Success Podcast episode is a very special one as Lisa Carpenter takes over and puts me in the hot seat! Lisa has accomplished great things with Full Frontal Living, her lifestyle and business coaching program where she supports entrepreneurs as they face and conquer their struggles head-on. She is an inspiring coach, an amazing businesswoman, and a dear friend to me, and I am honored to hand over the reins to her for today’s episode. Get ready for a behind-the-scenes look at my own journey from striving to thriving! I share with you the frustrations that I have faced on my Entrepreneurial Path, the genesis of my non-profit Mosaic Vision, the Turning Point that revolutionised my mental game, and even the surprising job that helped prepare me for entrepreneurship. I mastered my mind to create my Epic Life and Business and I am so grateful for the daily opportunity to help you all learn how to do it too! The biggest takeaways from this episode are: - “I wanted to run the show the way I wanted and really take care of people” My drive and ambition motivated me to open my own restaurant when I was in my 20s and finally manage it in a way where every customer had a very personalized experience. I have carried forward this attitude in every business I have developed since then, and I value giving back to my clients and students so that they benefit from everything that I have learned. [14:45] - “It was an impact in a way that I had never been able to have before” I have been running a non-profit called Mosaic Vision for the last 13 years. In this time, we have been able to connect over 1000 AIDS orphans in Uganda with the means to continue their education, reclaim their childhoods and create brighter futures for themselves and their families. Although it has been a difficult path, hardwiring my brain for success has allowed me to keep showing up authentically in my business and fund Mosaic Vision, impacting the lives of hundreds of children who have no one else to look after them. [19:05] - “What if it’s possible that I could have an amazing family AND an amazing business and non-profit and I don’t have to strive to make that happen?” At a pivotal point in my Entrepreneurial Path, I thought I had to give up my business so that I could be there for my family. Thankfully, I found a mentor who taught me that it was not about how to run my business, but how to run my thinking. This mental shift led me to a place where I was no longer striving and struggling, but I was finally thriving. Since then, I have helped thousands of Entrepreneurs level up their businesses and create their own realities. [32:15] My journey has taught me to let go of striving. There are people out there waiting for you to take your thoughts off autopilot and share your gift. It is time to get off of the hamster wheel, re-wire your thinking, and thrive in your life and business. Get ready to neural-hack your way to success and live a more balanced life while achieving your business goals! Today we’re going to do something a bit different. Instead of talking about business tactics or strategies, this episode is all about mindsets. For a long time, I was very much the typical Type A personality focused on getting things done, but I’ve come to realize that we as entrepreneurs need to step back sometimes. Too often, we’re so busy doing things that we don’t experience life. That’s what my guest is here to discuss. Lisa Carpenter helps high achieving entrepreneurs own their personal power and establish value-based boundaries with her Full Frontal Living™ approach. Lisa encourages us to stop trying to "do" our way to success and empowers us to stay present to what we’re feeling and how we’re showing up in all areas of our life. Listen in to hear her important message that every entrepreneur can learn from. You can find show notes and more information by clicking here: http://bit.ly/2wZrpIO

SHOW NOTES Lisa Carpenter, CNC, CSNC, Pn1, CPT, is the secret weapon for the frustrated dieters and driven achievers of the world. As a nutrition and life coach, she empowers her clients to connect deeply with their emotions, free themselves from judgment, and create lasting physical and emotional transformations. She inspires them to wake up to Full Frontal Living™ — a new mindset of conscious ownership of the decisions we all make around our health and daily life, as well as the emotions that drive them. Wellness has always been a part of my life but looking back, growing up I wasn’t always eating healthy. I always loved sugar and junk food. And I even smoked. Over time I really loved going to the gym and my career started to unfold from that point in time. It’s amazing how we can transform in this lifetime from just putting one foot in front of the other. Then I started to compete in fitness and figure and that’s when my career really unfolded from there. What are some tips on curbing sugar cravings: Stop shitting on yourself Make choices with intention I don’t eat things that will make me feel physically horrible I do enjoy the things I love without shame or guilt Choose not to eat trigger food, never abstain How do you define happiness: Happiness is not living with chaos in between my ears. It’s having a peaceful mindset. It’s not freaking out about money, food, my body, or really anything in my life. You don’t have to like every part of yourself to love yourself. Morning routine: Some days I’ll go to the gym but if other days my body is telling me I need rest, I stay in bed longer. I wake up at 5:15 because if I want to go to the gym then I’d do it then before my kids get up. Some mornings I’ll journal. Sometimes meditation. But I always check in with myself with what I need to be my best self. And that is my routine. Do you have 3 self care practices you just can’t live without: Working out (it’s really important to me to feel strong) Journaling Music Book Recommendations: The Four Tendencies: The Indispensable Personality Profiles That Reveal How to Make Your Life Better (and Other People's Lives Better, Too) by Gretchen Rubin The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are by Brené Brown It what area do you find your women clients struggle with the most and what is your best advice for them: Body Image and relationship with food. Being in acceptance with themselves. Also struggling with perfectionism and trying to control all the pieces in their lives. Listening to podcasts like this is important. Investing in the parts of our lives we’d like to get better at. Seek help, you don’t need to do it on your own. Stop living in a place of suffering and hire someone to help you achieve your goals. Figure out the true cause that is stopping you from what you want. Favorite success story: Recently this one woman is a high achieving success coach. She felt her body was’t matching the success she had in every other place in her life. She’s spent 10 months mentally finding out what was up and she has radically transforms. It just goes to show we can have it all. 17 years ago I worked with a woman who wanted a nutrition plan and workout plan. She has been struggling with body image. And she said if she was 10 pounds lighter she’d be happy and that led her into a cycle of eating disorders. She recently posted on my wall on how much she’s grown and followed to watch me evolve as well. My new book OUT NOW! is called “Let's E.A.T!: Break the Addictive Cycle of Dieting” 3 things you are currently grateful for: My family Recovery and the gifts it gave me That I get to do the work I do every single day
