If you've started to resent the program you have created and are worried you are outgrowing your audience or questioning it, in this episode, Alexis and I discuss how it could just be down to a lack of awareness and intentionally about how you put the mastermind together and how you show up inside of it.Join us as we dive into the topic of masterminds with our guest, Alexis Dean, founder of The Dovetail Community of Women Entrepreneurs. Alexis shares her experience and insights on why successful women are closing down their masterminds and how you can avoid falling into the same trap.Alexis shares her tips on removing yourself as the focus of the mastermind and becoming the steward of the community instead of the coach. We also discuss the importance of adjusting the power dynamic, separating the mastermind from being a space where everyone looks at you to lead, and creating a two-way street where you can receive and give. Plus, we touch on the importance of psychological safety in a mastermind and how it takes time to receive so that you don't disrupt the balance in the community. But that's not all! We explore the impact of building a team from a following of people who aspire to be the CEO rather than hiring individuals who want to grow the company. So, if you want to learn how to create a successful and thriving mastermind community instead of running from it and closing it down, don't miss this episode!Learn more about Alexis:Alexis Dean is the Founder of Two Roads Team Development, and The Dovetail Community of Women Entrepreneurs. The value of a human being can never be underestimated. Imagine what it would be like to go to work and really be seen, really be understood and valued as an individual with purpose, not just as an employee. What if you could run your business powered by a team of people who invest their heart and soul into what you do because they feel empowered to be all they can be? If we think of leadership as being at the top of the ladder, it can quickly lead to a very isolating and emotionally demanding place. And for those at the bottom, they can often feel forgotten and undervalued. No wonder so many businesses are struggling. Perhaps that’s not the only way to do it. Perhaps the age-old triangle can be flipped and the employer can start working for the employee, and that’s just what we’ll be discussing on today’s episode. Alexis Dean is the founder of Dovetail Summit, a global community of women who work together to empower fellow female entrepreneurs. She has introduced me to so many amazing people through her incredible network, many of whom I have had on the Soul Compass podcast already. Alexis started her journey as an entrepreneur in the corporate training and leadership space. From facilitating events, running corporate team building to management roles and starting businesses, she was doing it all. But no one can do it alone and that’s when Dovetail was established. Struggling with the demanding nature of running her own business, working 24/7 and coming under financial and emotional pressures, Alexis realised the need to have a community of entrepreneurs alongside her. People who she could share with, learn from and grow with. It’s a great honour to have Alexis with us today as we talk about Servant Leadership and how changing your mindset from “you work for me” to “I work for you” is crucial to running a successful and flourishing business. The pillars of Servant Leadership are invaluable and will help you to run a business that doesn’t just survive, it thrives. What does it mean to be a good leader? How do you let go and allow your team to work autonomously, enabling their imagination and ideas to flourish? In this era of technology and global community, it’s imperative to value the individual. It’s imperative that we value the human. Today we chat with Alexis Dean, the CEO and Founder and Dovetail Community (https://www.dovetail.community/) - which is "A global organization on a mission to advance female entrepreneurs through collaboration, generosity, education, and unforgettable shared experiences." I've been to several experiential masterminds and noticed the same thing (after Alexis brought it to my attention) - there are typically majority males in attendance. So Alexis started female-only experiences, retreats, getaways, masterminds... I love this story because I love this business model, and I'm very proud and impressed with what Alexis has done. ========= Next... Community. It's a simple word with so many layers to it; and for those of us who are at varying levels of relationship with the church, we may have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the word, and more importantly, the concept of community. What if community is what you make of it? What if you intentionally chose to connect, deeply and for the long haul, with people of shared values and diverse perspectives? Could it be that this was the idea of church community all along? Join the conversation with Alexis Dean, founder of the Dovetail Summit and the upcoming Basecamp, to hear more of our thoughts on this - and a few more rabbit trails. ;)

As we all know, life is not a straight path. It pretty much resembles a windy road, without an end in sight a lot of the time. Often it can be very unpredictable, a little scary and full of unexpected turns. But I suppose that's what makes it exciting, as well. My next guest understands change very well. Her original plan was to be a teacher. But when she accomplished that goal, and spent some time working in that field, Alexis quickly realized that wasn't her career aspiration after all. With a lot of trial and error, random jobs, stints in sales and a ton of perseverance, she began to figure out what her next steps would look like. They ultimately led her on an entrepreneurial journey, with a focus on culture- how to build it, what that looks like, and how to maintain a great culture within an organization. Most people throw around the word 'culture' and connect it to ping-pong tables, bean bag chairs, open concept work spaces and free snacks. That's in small part thanks to the start-up culture that's exploded over the last five to ten years. But that's only one type of culture, and it's not a very sustainable one if companies don't value their employees and work them to the bone. In this episode, Alexis and I discuss the companies that are getting culture right; the top down effect; why you need to support your people and their growth and the importance of creating a society that isn't living for the weekends. If you're curious to know how to build and sustain a thriving culture, then you won't want to miss this one.
