Podcast by Meg Tilton
We do not have control over what other say or do, but we do always have control over how we show up in the situations we find ourselves in. Today I talk about the importance of practicing and implementing coming into every situation from a place of love. Is this something you struggle with? Do you know the impact it will have on your life? Come have a listen to why I think you should do it and the effects it will have not only on your life but the lives around you. PLUS!!! A huge announcement.
We all have things that inconvenience us and annoy us in our lives. Many times we like to play victims and think those inconveniences are caused by others. This week I talk about an inconvenience I dealt with for over 18 months because I thought my husband should take care of the problem. It wasn't until I finally realized that I could solve my own problem, did I also realize that the I was the one causing the inconvenience - not my husband. Come have a listen to not only hear how stupid I was for 18 months, but to also hear how you can be sure not to do the same thing in your own life. Enjoy!
Decisions, decisions, decisions!! They are what we face daily and to some of you, they can be paralyzing. Today I talk all about the importance of getting out of the land of "I don't know." and making decisions for your life. I talk about how your brain works regarding decisions and how Satan and the Holy Ghost play into the whole process. Come have a listen and then let me know what you think! Enjoy!
This life we live is fast paced and crazy. At times we need to take a step back and realize that we are not running a race against anyone else. Our life is important and valuable and sometimes that means we need to slow things down, sleep, and take a deep breath. Come listen to some tips I share after a week of being sick and being forced to slow down. I hope they help you slow down as well and focus on some important self-care. Enjoy!
It's the beginning of the month so that means it's time for me to bring you another interview. Today I am excited to have Chanelle Neilson from "Moms Who Know Podcast" as my guest. Chanelle is an amazing lady who has done a lot in her life and in her passion for reaching out to moms and helping them feel fulfilled and living up to their highest potential. Today Chanelle discusses the importance of the morning routine. If you are anything like me, getting your day started off on the right foot is essential in accomplishing all that the day will bring you. Chanelle also shares how to take information that we learn and apply it in our life in a way that is more meaningful and helpful in advancing our forward progress. If you would like to learn more about Chanelle, please go here: https://momswhoknowpodcast.com If you would like to know more about the course that Chanelle referred to by Becky Edwards, please go here: http://purposedrivenmotherhood.blogspot.com/p/heaven-journaling-101.html
One of the key doctrines of the church is that God has not stopped speaking to man and that The Church has an open canon where revelation is on going. This means that God can change things through His appointed prophets to meet the needs of His saints in real time. Personally, it is how I know this church is true. I know God will not leave me alone in my day and age and will guide me and His prophets so that all I need to know to live the life God wants me to will be revealed to me. As far as the Church goes, only the prophet, Russel M. Nelson can receive revelation for the Church and he sure has received a lot lately. Joel and I discuss these changes today and Joel then shares why he believes so many changes are and will continue to happen. Enjoy!
I don't know where this thought process starts, most likely in ones childhood when the frustration of a mother who sees ungrateful children wanting more and more finally snaps and produces an epic lecture on how greedy children are and that they should just be grateful for what they have and not want more. I have to agree with that mother, and honestly I have been that mother, that all humans - especially children - need more gratitude in their lives. But where I've always gotten it wrong is that I shouldn't want for more. But what if gratitude and wanting more are actually two principles that go hand in hand? What if you are suppose to be grateful AND want more almost in the same breath? Come listen to today's podcast where I talk about how God Himself has taught us this principle through an act we do everyday. It's one I hope to implement more not only in my own life, but teach to my children as well. Enjoy!
You may think that self confidence is something that people are born with, but really it all comes down to how you view your situations and your ability to change your outcomes. Come listen to today's podcast where I give you the key to gaining more self confidence and how you can develop this skill if you want. You read that right, it is a skill and that is such great news because it means anyone can develop more self confidence, thus being able to create the outcomes they want in their lives - and that most definitely includes you. Enjoy!
MISTAKES! We all dread them, but they are simply part of being human. Mistakes are how you learn and how you grow, but we tend to make them mean so much more than they really are. I know God is always forgiving of my mistakes, so you and I both need to make sure we are forgiving of ourselves. In fact, God created a whole plan centered around the very fact that you would make mistakes. Join me today on the podcast as I discuss some recent mistakes I've made and how I handled them so as to not make them worse than they already were. I teach you how to do the same in all the mistakes that lie in your future. Enjoy!
Have you been thinking of going back to school and furthering your education? Have you wondered what it would be like to become a nurse while still having young kids at home? If you answered yes to either of these questions, make sure you take a listen to this interview with Kristina Thomas. Kristina decided it was time to go back to school and get her degree in nursing while her kids were still young and at home. She talks about how she and her husband navigated that time, why she did it when she did, and her feelings about doing it now that she is on the other side of it. Kristina also talks about the privileges she has experienced as she has been a nurse and helped her patients not only with their medical needs but their emotional and spiritual ones as well. Kristina is real and I feel gives a great insight into going after your dreams while still juggling a family and all that life has to bring. Enjoy!
In January 2019, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made a shift to focus gospel study a bit more on the home. The traditional three hour block of church was dropped down to two hours and a curriculum for families to study together at home was given to all church members. While still in it's infancy, Joel and Meg weigh in on their experiences so far with the new church schedule and curriculum. Enjoy!
We all like to be in a place where we feel like things are sailing along and it's easy and fun. But in life those moments are often fleeting and they take a great amount of energy to get to. That energy needed can be intimidating and keep you from even getting started. This week on the podcast I talk about some practical tips to help you get started in going after your passion and making your dreams a reality. I hope you enjoy it. Here is the link to the article I reference: https://www.lds.org/ensign/2019/01/young-adults/keeping-your-goals-from-getting-in-the-way-of-personal-growth?lang=eng If you are ready to start living your life on purpose and want to become the best version of you, but just need a little help? I had a totally different podcast planned for today, and while this podcast is meant to teach and inspire you, I hope that my being real and in the moment will always inspire you more. Our dear sweet dog Griffen passed away yesterday unexpectedly and tragically. I won't go into all the details, but it has definitely thrown a curveball into our lives. Today I pay tribute to him and speak from the heart on what this lesson is teaching me. I know there will be more lessons to come. Thanks for listening and being supportive and understanding. I love you all.
We talk a lot about how to get started doing something, but we often don't talk about the benefits that come once we do start and gain some momentum towards our goal. We certainly don't address the affects it has on our brains. Today on the podcast I talk about the blessings of momentum and the amazing things it produces for you as you grow and develop and become the best version of yourself. Enjoy! If you want help getting to a state of momentum in your life, sign up for a free mini session with me at the link below! https://coachingwithmegtilton.as.me/9sessions

Joel expounds upon insights learned from those of other faiths in regards to the nature of Christ and who He was. He dives deep into the Gospel of John and reflects on the teachings given in that book and the implications it has into our lives and relationship with the Savior.
Today I turn the interview table around and have Dr. Tilton interview me for this special podcast episode. It's totally unedited so I hope you enjoy it. I didn't even know the questions ahead of time. I hope you all had an amazing 2018 and that 2019 is your best year yet!
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with many family and friends surrounding you. You are loved and YOU are the reason Christ came to earth. You are worth everything He hopes for you. May you believe in Him and in you. I love you.
You live in a society today where you are bombarded by things that if you consume or participate in, promise to make you feel happy all of the time. As a society we have grown to think that negative and uncomfortable emotions are not the way life's supposed to be lived. But it's all false advertising. No food, pill, or thing you can buy will ever be able to relieve you from negative emotion long term. They are all quick fixes of relief and in actuality only create more problems down the road. Today I want to talk about a bit more sly hit of dopamine we like to give ourselves and that is “buffering with learning”. We have been taught that knowledge is power. That is only partially true. Knowledge is power only when you put it into action and even when you do that, there is still going to be negative emotion with whatever you are doing. But it's easy to get caught in the trap of your brain telling you that the reason you can't go forward is because you don't have enough knowledge and that lack of knowledge is what will cause you uncomfortable emotions. Come listen to two examples I talk of today about two women who are on opposite sides of the knowledge spectrum and their outcomes. You will be surprised by what you hear. Enjoy! We are quickly approaching a new year and with a new year comes resolve to do better than the last year. Statistically most of us won't accomplish the goals we set at the beginning of 2019. Why is that? On today's podcast I talk about the only thing you need to succeed at any goal you set - be it in the New Year or at anytime. The great news is that it's nothing you have to buy, it doesn't have anything to do with your talent, and it certainly doesn't have anything to do with how many people like you. It all comes down to one thing, and you are the master of that thing. If you want help with this one thing, be sure to sign up for a free 30 minute session. Unless you've been living under a rock somewhere, you are most likely very familiar with the story surrounding the birth of our Savior. There was a virgin, shepherds, wisemen, angels and gifts. We learn what we know from the accounts of Matthew and Luke. But their versions of the birth of the Savior are very different. Come listen to what Joel has to say about the importance of both Matthew and Luke's accounts surrounding the Saviors birth and the different message each one is trying to convey. They are both important and essential to the role Christ plays in each of our lives. Enjoy!
I talk a lot about the importance of coaching, because I'm a coach. Duh! I think everyone should have a coach and get coaching on a regular basis. Having someone who can look at your brain from a non-judgmental and neutral place is so helpful in showing you the way “out of the forest” if you will, that we all tend to get ourselves caught up in. But just as important as having a coach is, it is equally important to learn how to self-coach. It's a lot like having a personal trainer. They can only do so much for you. In order to see true and lasting results you have to be willing to put in the time and effort when you are away from them. Today on the podcast I give you three steps so that you can start self-coaching yourself and see amazing results in your life. Also, since this is Cyber Monday, November 26th, 2018 I am offering hour long coaching sessions for FREE. So if you happen to be listening to this on the 26th, go and sign-up for an hour of FREE coaching. You won't regret it. The link is below to my online schedule. Have a great week! https://coachingwithmegtilton.as.me/freecoachingsession
We live in a world made up of boundaries. We have boundaries when it comes to the countries we live in, how we drive in traffic, how we decide on property ownership, and so much more. Boundaries create order and safety. They also allow for a lot of freedom that wouldn't exist if boundaries didn't exist. But there is one area in our life that the majority of us lack in good boundary keeping skills - our thoughts. We think our thoughts just come and go and we have little control over them. On today's podcast I give you a visual image of how to set up thought boundaries in your brain and then what you need to do to make sure you keep the good thoughts within bounds and the bad ones well outside of bounds. Also, if after listening to this episode you would like some help in obtaining better thought boundaries, make sure you click on the link below and claim one of the five free spots I am giving away this week only. You don't have to be coached this week, you just have to get it scheduled and I'm only offering it to the first five women who sign up. Give this to yourself as an early Christmas present. Nervous about being coached? I have got you. The only thing you have to do is show up and I will take you on the journey towards creating better thought boundaries which always leads to better results in your life. I can't wait to chat with you. Click below to claim your spot! https://coachingwithmegtilton.as.me/freecoachingsession
This last week our family suffered a great loss with the passing of my father-in-law. He was one of the best men I have ever met and leaves behind a legacy of so many amazing traits and qualities. I am honored and humbled to be one of his daughter-in-laws and to know that his life will forever shape that of my husband and children. Today I share some of the most significant things he leaves behind as his legacy to the posterity that comes after him. I hope his legacy will inspire you to shape and develop your own legacy. Your legacy is something that you can decide on now and start living today. What will it be? What do you want to pass on and be remembered for in generations to come? Legacies happen no matter what, but you can be deliberate in your shaping of the one you leave. I am excited to work on mine more intentionally. After listening today, I hope you are too.
It's the first Monday in November so that means I am interviewing a woman in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who is going after a passion outside of motherhood and boy are you in for a treat today - literally. Today I am excited to share with you the wisdom of Melissa Kimball owner and founder of "For the Love of Cake" a home baking business that Melissa started just 4 short months ago where she turned a hobby of making cakes for her kid's birthdays into a part-time business. This is a great podcast for anyone thinking of going after something like this but Melissa's wisdom and insight reaches far beyond buttercream and fondant. Come have a listen and then be sure to go to my website to take a look at all her amazing cakes. You can also find Melissa on Facebook at the following link:https://www.facebook.com/melissakaykimball/ Enjoy!
Today Joel and I discuss the change made by Russell M. Nelson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to go from three hours of church to two hours. Joel puts me on the hot seat to get my impressions as a mother and woman in the church with the changes this will bring. It was a great discussion and I hope you enjoy!
Everywhere you look nowadays, people are on their phones. Have you ever left home and discovered you didn't have your phone and you felt panic well up inside you? We are addicted to them and all the apps that come with them. Recently, President Russell M. Nelson asked the women of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to take a 10 day social media fast. I have linked to his entire address below. Today I share the insights I gained by taking this fast and the lessons I am taking forward as I have re-entered the digital world of social media. If you have taken the fast yourself, I'd love to hear what you learned by writing to me at meg@the8cowlife.com and if you haven't yet done the fast, I highly encourage you to do so. It is something that will only benefit your life. Have a great week and enjoy! https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2018/10/sisters-participation-in-the-gathering-of-israel?lang=eng
If you want to get anything in your life done and do it in away that fosters more love and respect for yourself and those around you, you need to start dividing it into "Interruptible" and Uninterruptible" time frames. I have started doing this myself and it has made a huge difference in how I view my time when I work and when I'm with my family. Come have a listen to why I think every mom needs to be working under these time frames and how it not only helps you in accomplishing your goals but how it helps you be the best mom you can be and teach your children a valuable lesson on how to respect their time as well as others. Enjoy!
We often hear in the news that the earth does not have enough space or resources to accommodate the ever growing world population. While that is really a discussion for another day, I think far too many women already feel like the world doesn't need them and that their place on earth is insignificant. Today I talk about why you are most definitely allowed to take up space and steps you can implement that will allow you to start believing that. I have no doubt in my mind surrounding the truthfulness of this concept. Enjoy!
We live in a world that wants to tell us that the only way we have value and worth is by going big and making a difference in some area that effects millions of people. Today I talk about how I think you really can change the world even if you only effect one person. This is a concept that I think is essential and so important to learn and teach others so that each of us can go forward making the differences we need to and impacting the world the way God intends us to. Enjoy!
We put so much emphasis on checking things off our list of endless “to-do's” that we can sometimes think that in order to get into Heaven, we can do the same thing. This month on the podcast we discuss the difference of simply doing as opposed to becoming. Doing is easy, becoming is much more difficult. Come find out what Joel has to say about this and it's importance in our life. If you would like to read the talk by President Oaks which Joel referenced, please follow the link below. Enjoy! Today's podcast is one I am so happy to bring to you. I am interviewing my friend and fellow coach, Kendra Huffman. Kendra is one of the most loving and caring people I know. She truly strives to follow our Savior in all she does and I am grateful for her example. Today I interview her to discuss her journey of following her passion outside of motherhood in becoming a certified life coach working with women whose husbands are less active or who have left The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She not only talks about her journey of becoming a coach, but why she chose the niche she did, and the great benefits she has seen come to her clients as she has worked with them through a very difficult transition in their lives. I'm grateful to know that Kendra is there for these women because I know they are in great hands. If you, or someone you know, is struggling with their spouse leaving the Church, you can find Kendra at bravestlove.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/coachingwithkendra/. If you enjoyed this podcast please reach out to me and let me know what you thought. You can reach me at meg@the8cowlife.com. Enjoy!
We live in a world where we think everyone else is living a much better life than we are. We believe that people who are successful or going after their dreams are special and unique in some way. We think they must be void of hardships and shortcomings in their life and that's why they are where they are. It's just not true. I use to think the same way you maybe thinking. So today, I'm sharing my story and how I have gotten to where I am today by following my passion outside of motherhood. I hope it gives you hope that we are more a like then we are different and that you can do it too. If you want help pursuing your passion outside of motherhood, then I am your coach! Here is the link to my online schedule so you can sign up for a free coaching session where I can help you get started on living your passions instead of thinking about them. I am a believer that God has given every person on this planet at least one talent or gift that He intends for them to use to bless others and develop themselves. Many will spend a lot of time focusing on helping you find and use your talents, including myself, but today I want to share the opposite lesson you need to learn in regards to our talents and gifts as you pursue your passions. Sometimes you may be tempted to think you are better than or more deserving of certain things because of your talents. I talk today about how that can be dangerous and will in the long run, really stifle your growth and ability to use your talents for the most good. Enjoy!
I hear so many times from women that they know they have something to give back, a deeper purpose for their life than what they are currently doing, they just aren't sure what that thing is. Today I talk about some actionable things that you can do to start eliminating paths you know you are not suppose to go down and help you more quickly get on the one you are suppose to be doing. I promise, following these steps will help you figure it out. If you have any questions be sure to get back to me and let me know what they are. Also, if you'd like even more help make sure you sign up for a free mini-coaching session where I can help you get going on the path you are meant to be on. Here is a link to my online scheduler. The number one reason I think many women in the Church do not go after their passions and dreams is because they think they lack the time to do it. Truth is, we all have the same amount of time in our day, so why is it that some of us seem to get so much more done than the rest of us. If you feel like you just seem to lack time to go after your dreams, take a listen to today's podcast for some practical tips on how to use your time more wisely and get the things you both NEED and WANT to get done. I'm so glad you are here! Enjoy!
Everything we do will be recognized by God. The hard thing is that many of us will have to wait until heaven for that recognition. Today, Joel and I discuss the importance of doing things to glorify God - whether they big or small.
It's time to get real here on the podcast and dive into why I started this whole thing in the first place. I love to see other women in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints excel and become the best versions of themselves. One of the ways I think they do that is by following their God given passions outside of motherhood. My passion is to help other women follow their passions. So today, I talk about the five main reasons I know many of you are not going after your passions. The great news is that none of them are valid reasons so if you are willing to do some mind work and push old beliefs to the side, your passion is just waiting for you to take hold and go for it. I sure hope you do! Enjoy!
How are you currently living your life? Are you consciously choosing to live your life from a place of power and control or are you giving that power and control over to anger and frustration? You may often think that your life and the way you feel is the result of what others have done or what they have said. Nothing could be farther from the truth. You always choose who is controlling your life. But do we ever think that our emotions are the ones controlling us? Here's a secret - they are always controlling us if we let them and don't change them with our thoughts. Come listen to today's podcast and learn the importance of making the decision to always be in control of your life and take your power back. It will serve you time and time again if you can master this skill. Enjoy! We talk a lot about budgeting our money and time, but we don't talk about the importance of budgeting our lives. On todays podcast I talk about why this is such an important concept and why it goes way beyond budgeting our time and money. I also give you the one thing you are going to have to do in order to do it more effectively. Come have a listen and then let me know what you think by leaving a review or hoping on a mini-session with me. Enjoy!
Structure and a schedule are good to keep us moving forward towards goals in our life. But just as important is getting off of a schedule and changing things up. Our brain is much like our pallet. We would never enjoy eating the exact same thing every day and so our brain doesn't enjoy doing the exact same thing every day. It gets tired of the same old thing day in and day out. It needs to change things up so that it can be most efficient in the daily routine. Today I talk about the things I learned and saw happen as we unplugged from media for the summer and as we went on vacation. Spoiler alert - it did great things for my brain. Take a listen and then let me know what you think. If you feel like you are in a rut yourself, I'm a great resource to help you see how to get unrutted. You can sign up for a free mini-session by following this link https://coachingwithmegtilton.as.me/freeminisession. I'd love to chat with you! Enjoy!
This month on "A Cup of Joel" Joel points out an interesting realization he had in looking at all the bad guys in the Book of Mormon. It's a fascinating observation and one that he thinks was a subliminal message by Mormon to all of us on the importance of choosing your friends wisely. Come have a listen to find out what it is and see if you agree. Enjoy!
Every year in July, my family delivers treats to our local friends. It's become a tradition I love because then I don't have to do a bunch of running around in December. In gearing up for this years treat delivery I started thinking about how we put so much pressure on those around us to deliver our happiness and are often very disappointed with they don't deliver exactly what we want. In todays episode I talk about how the power to deliver the most meaningful gifts you will get this Christmas lies within yourself. Come listen and find out what I'm giving me this year and how I can help you get a gift only you can give yourself. Enjoy!!
We often think of “substance” in regards to material goods, money, etc., but what would change in our lives if we started thinking of “substance” as our talents, gifts, and personality traits that each of us has been given? Would you feel like the impact you could have on the world would increase and take on deeper meaning? Today I talk about the importance of sharing our “substance” with the world and why we as LDS women need to start doing it more and more. I am a firm believer that we are past the days of living our lives as silent examples and that the Lord and the world need to hear more from us who are living the doctrines of the gospel and are God fearing women. It's time to stop living in the shadows and come out in the open and share our God given talents with those around us. Enjoy!
Every single one of us has been offended at some point in our life. It hurts and is not fun. It's true that we do choose to be offended and that can be a hard realization to come to. It takes emotional maturity to take responsibility for our feelings and not blame others. Come have a listen today where we will discuss why we get offended and somethings to do so that we can stop. Enjoy!
We live in a very automated world. Everything from cleaning our clothes and dishes to making the food we put on our tables is done to create a process of greater ease and simplicity. The great news is that this frees up a lot of brain power for us so we can be more creative and contributing human beings. The downside is that other activities that do not allow us to create more and grow into our potential can take that free space if we don't manage our minds well. Come have a listen today where I discuss the importance of making sure we are not letting our brains coast in autopilot mode and that we are constantly trying to live a more manual driven life. Enjoy!
In coaching I talk a lot with my clients about changing their beliefs but an additional step I learned recently took all the thought work to a new level. Today I explain the tangible process of belief and what that looks like in your life and how you know that you are truly going to get the results you want in your life. It's not a new concept, in fact God has been teaching it to us for years so here's your chance to truly learn how to commit to your beliefs. Enjoy!
Often we speak of the process of repentance, but what does it mean to truly repent? Today Joel and I tackle this question and then follow it up with talking about what forgiveness looks like. It' s a great discussion and you don't want to miss it! Enjoy!
We live in a world that makes us think we have to have a the latest and greatest and if we don't we are missing out. It has caused many of us to slip into what is often referred to as the “Scarcity Mindset”. Today I talk about three areas of scarcity we can fall into and what to do to get ourselves out of that mindset so we can live more abundant and full lives. Enjoy!
We live in a world that rewards excellence and in many ways that's a good thing. I'm a firm believer in striving for doing your best. But we all too often get caught up in comparing our best to someone else's best and those can look very different. Today I talk about how maybe instead of focusing so much on being the best in comparison to others, we should really focus on showing up. Far too many of us don't show up in our lives and I think that's where the real tragedy and loss occur. We need to be engaged, striving, and moving forward constantly - even if that means we come in last place.
