Interruptions can feel frustrating, but what if they are actually invitations from God? In Mark 5, Jesus was on His way to heal a dying girl when a desperate woman reached for Him in faith. Instead of rushing past her, He stopped, acknowledged her, and restored her completely. In this message, we see how Jesus modeled interruptibility—and how, when we allow our plans to be interrupted, God's mercy can flow through us to those in need. Faith in Jesus frees us to be people of mercy in a merciless world—but we must be willing to pause, listen, and act when He calls.Questions for Reflection:• How do you typically respond to interruptions in your day?• What would it look like for you to be more interruptible for God's work?

Following the Lord's call can be heavy yet heartwarming. Hear it from Kate Shaw, of our Jackson, Mississippi community, whose foster care journey butted up against a busy schedule and desire to plan. Still, Kate saw each fostering up-and-down as another opportunity to glorify God.   From challenging her Type A personality to training her to be “interruptible”, fostering children, Kate says, taught her family to be compassionate and empathetic. And when she prayed for direction, the Lord made his plans abundantly clear.   In this episode, you will learn:   – When you seek the Lord's will for your life, you can rest in His purposes.   – The Lord may call you to obedience—even when your plate is already full.   – He will equip and sustain you as He carries out His plans for your life, because He is faithful. In this teaching, Kim Butcher invites us to embrace a life that mirrors Jesus' way of being interruptible. Jesus consistently welcomed interruptions, whether from the sick, the broken, or the lost, viewing them as opportunities to serve and love. Kim challenges us to ask: Are we willing to slow down, be inconvenienced, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into moments of service? In a world that prizes self-sufficiency and busyness, this invitation is a call to live differently—attuned to the needs of others and open to the divine moments that come when we let our lives be interrupted for the people around us.

This new episode series is called:“Road Trip Chronicles” . These episodes will be short messages that you can listen to anytime throughout the day and hopefully will provide some encouragement, motivation, and joy during your day. Of course we'll still have guests on the show once a week, but these episodes will be here as well to help us navigate life with Jesus. Todays topic is being interruptible. In our busy world, it can be easy to become so busy and so scheduled that we miss opportunities everyday to shine our lights. We can all look to Jesus as an ultimate example of living our lives with an open heart towards interruptions. Discussion questions- Do I have too firm of a grip on my schedule? What can I learn from Jesus's example when it comes to facing interruptions? How can being more interruptible help shape me into the person God wants me to be?

Message for 06/16/2024 "Jesus is Interruptible" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* Hebrews 13:8-9a - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9 So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Matthew 14:1-13a - When Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, heard about Jesus, 2 he said to his advisers, “This must be John the Baptist raised from the dead! That is why he can do such miracles.” 3 For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias (the former wife of Herod's brother Philip). 4 John had been telling Herod, “It is against God's law for you to marry her.” 5 Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of a riot, because all the people believed John was a prophet. 6 But at a birthday party for Herod, Herodias's daughter performed a dance that greatly pleased him, 7 so he promised with a vow to give her anything she wanted. 8 At her mother's urging, the girl said, “I want the head of John the Baptist on a tray!” 9 Then the king regretted what he had said; but because of the vow he had made in front of his guests, he issued the necessary orders. 10 So John was beheaded in the prison, 11 and his head was brought on a tray and given to the girl, who took it to her mother. 12 Later, John's disciples came for his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus what had happened. 13 As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. Matthew 14:13-14a - As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. 14 Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat… Matthew 14:13-14 - As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. 14 Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Jesus is Interruptible Mark 2:1-5 - When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God's word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat.4 They couldn't bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Matthew 19:13-15 - One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” 15 And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left. Luke 8:41-48 - Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. 45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” 47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” Philippians 2:1-5 NIV - Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Hebrews 1:3a NIV - The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. Hebrews 4:16 NIV - Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

You ever had an appointment or agenda or even your schedule get hijacked by, what seemed like an interruption? This can leave us feeling very frustrated and like we've lost the most precious commodity we have...our time.  As frustrating as these interruptions can be for a leader, they can also unlock some of life's most defining moments. There are so many time management and productivity books, podcasts and resources that talk about the importance of eliminating these interruptions in an attempt to be the most productive you can be. However, what if by eliminating our ability to be interrupted, we are also eliminating moments that could completely change the trajectory of our lives and/or someone else's? If you're *curious and want to hear a little more about this idea, I encourage you to go have a listen to EP. 65 where Jeremy unpacks this idea of being an interruptible leader as well as 5 roadblocks that will keep a leader from being interruptible.

There are times when people come to us and end up interrupting something we were already doing.  Like when our kids need help filling up their water bottles. Or when a dear friend is having an especially tough day and just needs to be with someone. Or when a family member calls and needs to figure out how to handle a situation they're in. How would you respond in these situations? I think there are a lot of times I used to resent being interrupted. It distracted me from getting things done or it got in the way of my own quiet time. But thankfully, God has been changing my heart in that. And that's why today, I want to talk about offering the gift of your presence, especially over the holiday season. And specifically, doing this by being interruptible.  We'll talk about what being interruptible means, three signs that indicate if you are interruptible or not, and some of the challenges of being fully present.   Kari   >> Grab your copy of my Courageous Care book: http://lovedoesthat.org/care   RELATED EPISODES + RESOURCES: ·       Jeff Goins article: The Key to Success: Being Interruptible ______ >> Free Journaling Workshop: 3 ways to encounter God on the pages of your journal http://lovedoesthat.org/journalingworkshop >> Journal Gently: An 8-week program designed to help you process grief and trauma with God http://lovedoesthat.org/journalgently >> Written Spiritual Direction: Recognize God's presence in your pain http://lovedoesthat.org/spiritualdirection   Music by DappyTKeys

DIG IN QUESTIONSIn light of this week's message, we encourage you to consider these questions and dig in a little deeper with your personal study, with your family, or with your small group.1. How busy are you on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest amount)?2. Which of these following statistics do you identify most with?75% of Parents are too busy to read to children (if you have any).33% of American adults claim to live with extreme stress.50% of American adults often lie awake due to stress.121 emails per day is the average amount of emails for an American office worker.Americans check their phone once every 12 minutes on average, or over 80 times a day, for a total of 5 hours a day.12% claim to have no close friends, and are too busy to invest in pursuing them.3. Read Mark 5:21-41. How was Jesus busy, yet, "interrupted?" How did he respond?4. Jesus lived a life on a constant journey from town to town. He was very busy. Yet, during his day-to-day travel, he was frequently interrupted by people in need. Time after time, Jesus stopped and loved whoever was in his path. For Jesus, every "disruption" was seen as "destiny." What would it look like for you to see people in your path as destiny and not a disruption?5. Is there someone right now you had originally seen as a disruption that you now see as destiny? How could God be using you to impact their life?

This woman was ready, the city of Sychar was ready, but He was exhausted and in a hurry. He had only stopped to rest and get something to eat. What would He do? Would He explain the condition they were in and politely postpone, promising to come back at a more convenient time? After all He still hadn't eaten anything, and He and His disciples had been walking for hours, possibly through the night. When we read such passages, you and I need to remember that Jesus was as human as we are. The Son of God came from heaven to become a man with a body like ours. So He was as hungry and tired as you and I would be in that situation. He felt the way we would feel if we had gone without food and walked until we had to stop. Yet Jesus saw something in that moment that His disciples didn't see. He saw what God was doing in that place and realized that meeting this woman wasn't an accident. So His love for people and His desire to give them eternal life caused Him to set aside His own needs and trust that the Holy Spirit would sustain Him until He could finally eat and rest. The disciples were standing there offering Him food, but He didn't touch it. Instead He began to prepare Himself spiritually while a stream of people poured out of the city rushing toward Jacob's well.

2020 and 2021 have been a plot twist no script writer would have written.  We have been faced with hard questions, major problems, rising conflict and deep issues both personally and corporately.  We have seen marriages fail, jobs lost, loved ones pass and health decline.   We need a second act.  In a two act story, the first act is where all the problems arise and the main characters flaws come to the surface.  The second act is where the characters grow into the people who can answer the tough questions, find solutions to problems, face their enemies and find true victory.  The second act is not just a hope we have for ourselves, it is how God works and who he is.  He is a God of the second act.  Join us as we explore the book of Nehemiah and learn how God brought about a second act for Israel and how he can do the same for us today.   Digital Bulletin: https://www.lifechurchlivonia.org/digitalbulletin   Give: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/lifechurchlivonia   https://www.lifechurchlivonia.org
