Recording At Home Tips with Studio Engineer Brendan Marolla. Recording at home is something we have probably all done and for many of us, it's very normal. But what are the guiding principles that distinguish well-recorded tracks from problematic ones? Are there tips for recording at home that consistently gives us better results? What studio recording techniques are true for any recording environment? This Zoom call seemed like a great opportunity to pick the brain of an experienced studio engineer and producer to find out what really matters when you are recording at home.

Hi,
Welcome and thanks for listening to The Guitaring Show! Please subscribe to our channel and support us on Patreon. Last December we sweated it out to record a bonus Christmas episode. In this weeks episode we unbox the HX Stomp and sample a few of the amplifiers. We spent quite a bit of time scrolling through amp models and seeing what inspired us. Very little tweaking was done, just a few level changes and some adjustment of effects. Other than that, everything you hear is as it sounded straight out of the box. We also swap our 'worst gig ever' stories. Enjoy the episode. Please join us on Patreon and share this video with your friends. Leave a comment and let us know your worst ever gig! Welcome and thanks for tuning in to The Guitaring Show! Please subscribe to our channel! The audio for this episode was lifted from our YouTube show. When I was a teenager I had only one pedal...for years. A Boss DS-1 and a Gorilla amp. Yes it was called a Gorilla?!? It was rubbish. So when my son left his pedals lying all around the house I decided to take them and see if he noticed. That was four weeks ago. He still hasn't said anything. This is the episode that followed the pedal-napping! Please subscribe, tell your friends, share it around and give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it. Lovell Music Lab | Tim Lovell Interview | Melbourne Guitar Show 2019 This is our final instalmentand pedal of our time at the Melbourne Guitar Show earlier this year. In today's episode, we chat to the man behind Lovell Music Lab, Tim Lovell. Having just landed in the country weeks prior to this event, it's no surprise that we hadn't heard of the Lovell brand. But Tim is back in Melbourne after establishing his business in Columbia and it appears he's been very busy! We were impressed by the practical solutions built into his amp and pedal designs. Tim has really thought things through without over complicating the products. Please subscribe, share and give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it. Welcome and thanks for tuning in to The Guitaring Show! Please subscribe to our channel! Back in August, we headed to the Melbourne Guitar Show to meet some friends and find some new ones! It's been a while coming but we finally dug up all the footage from that weekend and this podcast is the second instalment of three. The audio for this podcast has been lifted from our weekly YouTube show. In today's episode, I interview one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and that's Matt Gandy from Dirty Elvis Guitars. I first discovered Matt on Instagram playing his Baritone and it sounded glorious. So I couldn't wait to catch up and try it for myself! Welcome and thanks for tuning in to The Guitaring Show! Please subscribe to our channel! Vander Custom Guitars | Melbourne Guitar Show | Custom Guitar Builder Back in August we headed to the Melbourne Guitar Show to meet some friends and find some new ones! It's been a while coming but we finally dug up all the footage from that weekend and this video is the first installment of three. In today's episode, I interview David from Vander Custom Guitars. David's easy going nature is reflected in his no-nonsense builds. For a builder relatively new to the game his guitars were certainly attracting a lot of attention, and for good reason. Our good mate and friend of the show, Dan was so impressed by a Vander Offset Tele that he bought it. I didn't even know people actually bought guitars at guitar shows, but there you go :) Be sure to check out @vanderguitars on Instagram and check out his website www.vanderguitars.com.au Please subscribe and give this video a thumbs up. Perhaps not our Top 6 Sounds but definitely Zach's current favourite sounds. Mind you, this was only the third time he had played the SY-1. It was literally fresh out of the box! We will most likely revisit this pedal once we've spent a little more time using it! Did you know that October 22 is Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Awareness Day? #PMSAwarenessDay Phelan-McDermid Syndrome is a rare genetic condition caused by a deletion or structural change of the terminal end of chromosome 22 in the 22q13 region. It can also be caused by a mutation of the SHANK3 gene. PMS is sometimes called 22q13 Deletion Syndrome. It's estimated that 1 percent of all people with autism have Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. The symptoms of PMS vary and can cause a wide range of medical, intellectual, and behavioural challenges. The most common characteristics are intellectual disability, delayed or absent speech, low muscle tone, motor delays, and epilepsy. There is no cure or treatment specifically for PMS. For more information about PMS, go to www.pmsf.org or contact the PMS Foundation at info@pmsf.org. In Australia, you can visit www.pmsfaustralia.org.au Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe. Welcome! Thanks for tuning in to The Guitaring Show. This audio is taken from our weekly show on Youtube. You can watch the episode by clicking here Please subscribe to our channel! After an extended break we're back with Season Two. Hooray! A Lost Amp Reborn, The Legend of the Rex Bassking In today's episode, we put two Australian made Rex Bassking amplifiers through their paces as we try to recapture the sound of Aussie Rock from the late 60's and 70's. Both these amps have been rebuilt and redesigned based on the original circuits using the original chassis and they are incredible amps. Clean, detailed and posessing a sound that is unlike any modern amp we've played. Considering they're virtually a new amp, with new upgraded components they sound like they're from a different era. 'The Bassking is a simple but undeniably classy looking combo. The two channels, Bass and Normal, each have their own dedicated pair of inputs, and controls for volume, bass and treble. A Celestion G12H twelve inch speaker has been fitted as part of the redesign. High quality electrolytic capacitors have been fitted, and matched valves from Electro Harmonix form the heart of the amp's power and tone. The Bassking is driven by two 12AX7EH valves in the preamp and two EL84EH valves in the power section.' We play our Matons | Melbourne Guitar Show | Zoom H1n | Micro Tuners Today we compare our beloved Maton guitars as we look towards the Melbourne Guitar Show. At this year's show, we will be meeting players and builders plus a few surprise guests as well! Also in today's video, we play a couple of tunes, I find an O-Port, Zach finds a serial number and we both stumble upon a brand new concept, Fireproof Strings! It's actually a terrible idea. This episode was recorded on the Zoom H1n, a handheld, stereo digital recorder. What you're hearing is unprocessed audio from the H1n placed about one metre in front of the couch. No post-processing was used at all. What do you think? We really appreciate your comments and suggestions for future episodes. Keep them coming! And remember to share our channel with your mates! Chime MK II Part Two | EP Booster | AC Booster | Ibanez TS9 We loved the new Pettyjohn Chime MK II so much that we couldn't help but try it out with some common boost pedals. Our mission, should we choose to accept it (and we did) was to turn down the onboard boost in the Chime MK II and run a boost pedal into it. We also wanted to hear a boost post-Chime. The Chime came up trumps no matter what we threw at it, including running overdrive before and after the Chime. This was a fun episode and is the final episode for Season One. We will be having a short break, returning in a few weeks time for Season Two of The Guitaring Show. Thanks again for listening. Please like and subscribe. Cheers, Lyndon & Zach
Thanks for tuning in to The Guitaring Show. Please subscribe and visit our YouTube channel. This episode is available to watch now on YouTube. Click here! Today we put the Pettyjohn Chime MK II through its paces and compare it to the much-loved Chime. The Chime MK II has some major audiophile upgrades, silent soft-touch switching, higher headroom and while the drive circuit remains largely unchanged, you can now turn off the clipping via an internal toggle switch. Very cool! The Chime MK II is a magnificent pedal in every way. Thanks for listening! Cheers, Lyndon & Zach
Thanks for tuning in to The Guitaring Show. This is the audio from our YouTube Show which can be accessed here. Please subscribe to our channel :) In today's show, we look at a couple of ways to be heard in a mix, without turning up your volume. What does it sound like when mid-frequencies are EQ'd and boosted in your signal? Can shelving off the low-end help? Have you tried using a delay as a doubler? We employ a few popular pedals to achieve some really great results through a Fender Blues Junior and an Ulbrick Club 20. Enjoy this episode! Cheers, Lyndon & Zach
