In Erased: What American Patriarchy Has Hidden From Us, best selling writer Anna Malaika Tubbs reveals the secret history of American patriarchal values. Tubbs argues this patriarchy is the central narrative thread of American history. She emphasizes that patriarchy affects everyone differently according to their race, class, and gender - thereby creating a "gendered hierarchy" that excludes many from traditional gender roles. Tubbs maintains that this patriarchy persists. Indeed, she presents the Trump administration's Project 2025 as a reactionary attempt to return to this central narrative of American history. Five Key Takeaways * American patriarchy was intentionally built into the nation's founding documents, with women deliberately excluded from the Constitution. This systemic design continues to influence modern American society and politics.* Patriarchy affects different groups in varying ways—white women experience oppression differently than women of color, who historically weren't even afforded the "protections" of traditional gender roles. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for building effective coalitions.* Agency is central to resistance against patriarchal systems. Throughout history, marginalized groups have consistently demonstrated alternative ways of living despite systemic constraints.* Current political movements like Project 2025 represent a conscious return to traditional patriarchal values, particularly in their emphasis on women's reproductive roles.* According to Tubbs, addressing patriarchy requires multi-level approaches: personal reflection, reimagining relationships, mindful parenting, and policy change. Understanding how patriarchy operates helps explain voting patterns and can inform strategies for social change.Anna Malaika Tubbs is a New York Times bestselling author and multidisciplinary expert on current and historical understandings of race, gender, and equity. With a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Masters in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies from the University of Cambridge in addition to a Bachelors in Medical Anthropology from Stanford University, Anna translates her academic knowledge into stories that are clear and engaging. Her articles have been published by TIME Magazine, New York Magazine, CNN, Motherly, the Huffington Post, For Harriet, The Guardian, Darling Magazine, and Blavity. Anna's storytelling also takes form in her talks, including her TED Talk that has been viewed 2 million times, as well as the scripted and unscripted screen projects she has in development. Our guest today is Anna Malaika Tubbs, a multidisciplinary expert on current and historical understandings of race, gender, and equity. She is the author of “The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation” and the just-published “Erased: What American Patriarchy Has Hidden From Us”. In both books, Tubbs examines society's limitations on women and the consequences of those systems of oppression. Tubbs argues that this is no coincidence – it's as essential to maintaining power structures today as it was when the United States was founded. But what can seem intractable doesn't need to be – Tubbs says “it's all made up, so let's make up something different”. On May 13, 2025, Anna Malaika Tubbs came to the Sydney Goldstein Theater in San Francisco for an onstage conversation with podcaster, human rights activist and social impact strategist Jamira Burley.
This week on Miami Vice: A wedding is quickly followed by a funeral as a kingpin Luis Pedroza is gunned down on his wedding day, leaving his arranged bride and now widow to live with his son (Miguel Ferrer RIP), sister-in-law and son-in-law. Clearly, things will be super happy and cordial! The 80s did love a new mysterious woman moving into a huge mansion occupied with feuding family members. Things gets spicier when Tubbs catches feelings. Meanwhile, Crockett goes up to visit Billy, who is acting out due to the impending visit from the Stork. Crockett tries to make up for lost time, but it doesn't seem to be enough as Billy feels unwanted by both sides. This week on Miami Vice: Gina is undercover with a big-time dealer, Enriquez, who is a big fan of white stuff whether it be cocaine or fabulous accessories. Vice is after him and their bust (at a metro station party...?) was by the book until Enriquez's lawyer gets him off thanks to Switek's typo in the warrant. The lawyer, Sam Boyle and his protegé, Lisa Madsen (Amanda Pummer) are working for Enriquez as Vice tries to get closer, and it takes a dead child to make Lisa questions her loyalty. Her world comes crashing down as Vice closes in on Enriquez and Boyle - whose world is also closing in around him as he's caught stealing from Frank Romano (Tony Sirico), while Enriquez keeps servings looks. Your host was a bit over-caffeinated so feel free to skip ahead at parts or listen along and check the show notes for any links - including other shady lawyers stealing from clients like Tom Girardi! Could Sam have been a husband on The Real Housewives of Miami if it was around in the 80s??? On this episode of MHD Off the Record, MHD sits down with Abigail Marquez, General Manager of the Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD), and Michael Tubbs, Founder of Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI) and Special Advisor to Governor Gavin Newsom. Together, they dive into the realities of Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI)—a policy designed to provide no-strings-attached cash payments to individuals and families in need. With millions struggling to make ends meet, we ask: Does GBI empower people to escape poverty, or does it foster dependency? Our guests share insights from pilot programs in Los Angeles and Stockton, breaking down the data, misconceptions, and long-term impact of direct cash assistance.Abigail R. Marquez serves as the General Manager of the City of Los Angeles' Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD), a position she has held since 2021. She is responsible for administering the City's Consolidated Plan, which allocates around $120 million in federal funds annually to support various capital projects and social services. This includes managing 20 FamilySource Centers and services for domestic violence and human trafficking survivors. Under her leadership, CIFD has implemented notable initiatives, including the Guaranteed Basic Income pilot program (BIG), the largest of its kind in the nation, and the Opportunity LA Children's Savings Account program, which helps thousands of first-graders build financial security. Prior to this role, she was the Assistant General Manager at the Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department (HCIDLA), where she led efforts in community services and development.Michael Tubbs is the Founder of the Non-profit organization, End Poverty in California (EPIC), the Founder of Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI), and the Special Advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom for Economic Mobility and Opportunity. This week on Miami Vice: Switek's bets and debts catch up to him and he's not alone. A star Hurricanes quarterback named Kevin with an overbearing stage dad (an old friend of Stan's) and shady manager, is also facing gambling debts. Both of them will get caught up as Vice busts the gambling ring run by and then subsequent hit on Chi Chi Vasquez, and both of their debts rack up getting them and those around them into hot water. Switek is not alone as Crockett and Tubbs are there to try and help him through his issues that aren't really about his girlfriend, as he claims. This week on Miami Vice: Trudy goes under as a prostitute to catch a serial killer who is carving his mark into his victims. Could it be the eclectic artist with a penchant for violence and knives (Cory Tagawa is back)? Continuity be damned this episode as Castillo can't decipher whether these markings as Japanese or Thai (despite previously living there, speaking Thai in previous episodes and being married to a Thai woman...?) so Vice enlists the help of a professor of Asian studies to help them catch the killer. Trudy gets closer and closer and ultimately way too close for comfort in the search for the killer. With Los Angeles and the surrounding areas still ablaze, the media is capitalizing with headlines like Washington Post's recent article, “L.A. fires may have brought cancer-causing chemicals into drinking water.” Causing further concern are the various public health water notices including Do Not Drink and Do Not Boil. Ultimately, people want to know, is their water safe to drink after a wildfire? What are local water systems doing to ensure the water is safe, and how are these efforts protecting public health? What does it say and how might it affect us here in L.A.? Miami Vice, the groundbreaking TV series full of star cameos, debuted 40 years ago. So much fact-vs-fiction and art imitating life -- which then tried to imitate that art. We talk to a retired Miami smuggler who always bumped into Crockett and Tubbs -- and NPR TV critic Eric Deggans on the show's four decades of influence.

2024 - 0825 - Mark Tubbs
Remember Crocket and Tubbs from Miami Vice? If you do, then you well know all about Scarab boats. Listen to how they have evolved when Tony and Sam take with Don Smith - Global Brand Director.
The man who prosecuted a violent felon insists he is being retaliated against for "Mis-gendering and deadnaming" James "Hannah" Tubbs. Radical Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon is going after Asst. D-A Shea Sanna for hurting Tubbs feelings. Tubbs is a man. He's also a convicted child molester and murderer. A man who not only lured a young girl into a bathroom to molest her, but he murdered his best friend with a rock. The murder happened when he was 19 so he was tried as a juvenile. He "transitioned" to female after the 2022 arrest for molesting the girl. He is heard on a prison phone describing the transgender scheme to avoid being labeled as a sex offender. Why would a Gascon punish a seasoned prosecutor for hurting the feelings of a very evil man who is clearly faking his transgender status? Ramesh Nyberg served over 20 years in a Miami, Florida Homicide Department. He's also written a memoir about his time in the Police Department. He joined us to share stories from his book : Badge, tie and Gun - Life and Death journeys of a Miami Detective. It was fascinating to hear just how he copes with the pressure put upon him by a department that was dealing with more than 1 homicide a day. What's it like working in to a crime scene and how do you mentally process it? He shares the 1 case that he still can't let go even now that he's retired. He dispels the myths that we have thanks to Hollywood and Crockett and Tubbs. We know you'll enjoy this episode - and we're sure that you'll enjoy his book which you can purchase here : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Badge-Tie-Gun-Journeys-Detective-ebook/dp/B0CTQQKQTV/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1L8OI9AA4IP1J&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.fPxxnAYObFJNlcv4rEwmrY0EJDS_kp9wZo8P1cbFXq5V02jPQ5fhuyRA7lVuRCpJvrX0FqiqrcMVGi38dwcn95Mu0SXqdYjZ4em76WcqvUHOvdBm7Pciqx8WxqfPg3phtw4KnJuzx4ffCm25bwwvh49a0juMaVMPGgEGJG1tHgjJNg7WRU6ZZXjyYsN4VRxl1XZOk_Sa1tMSOSDsSVAZFsxP7VsdWnPOSP9oMRMOxaE.nJMoKADP3tfQrXOqTlzJQ5Bj0Wt30owNt07rk_deXk0&dib_tag=se&keywords=badge+tie+and+gun&qid=1721195061&s=books&sprefix=badge+tie+and+gun%2Cstripbooks%2C59&sr=1-1 The opening music is "London Bayou" by Oscar Albis Rodrigues and the closing music is "BDS" by Lewis Pickford. tallboyradio.com

Once again we see the Vice team babysitting someone and once again it's someone who is frozen. A frozen corpse turns up on a search of a drug lab. Now Crockett, Tubbs have to get to the bottom of this popsicle. But...…guess who's involved?? If you guessed Izzy, you win the grand prize. This week I talk with Dianne Tubbs. She is a vocal coach who helps her students find their voice and confidence, but she also had her confidence shattered by a song that every knows: The Star Spangled Banner. This episode is about her story in finding her confidence and how you can find yours. You will be inspired by her story!
Did you try out any demos during the Steam Next fest? No? Well it's a good thing that Tubbs and Dale did! And now they're gonna talk about them, and you're gonna listen! And Tubbs is gonna talk about a meal he had, and it's gonna make you hungry! Tell us if it made you hungry (or about demos we should have tried) in our discord: https://discord.gg/B6WD3Gt
