Ohio native, enlisted out of college and graduated basic training at Fort Benning, talks Ranger school being assigned to 3rd Ranger Regiment and SAW gunner, Operation RHINO in Afghanistan, being in the Army when GWOT began, and current work with the Ranger Outreach Center.
Staying ahead involves changing and looking toward the future for advancing technologies and strategies. To protect freedoms, the military must do so. Col. Damien Mason is the Deputy Commandant of the Infantry talks about where the Infantry is heading and the future of the branch.
Bill Huff, born and raised in Columbus, Ga. with deep local family roots, joined the Marine Corp. on a friendly dare. He shares his experiences growing up, going to the University of Ga, boot camp, deploying to Vietnam and coming back home. Now his mission is Mental Health support and suicide prevention for not only Soldiers and Veterans but for all who encompass the Military family.
Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. The concept seems very straightforward and simple enough but the execution is the most important but also difficult part. It's even more challenging to be a dynamic and effective leader. LTC Josh Powers is a true dynamic and effective leader. Douglas MacArthur Award winners display true commitment to Army values; unequaled technical and tactical competence; and a mature understanding of their leaders, subordinates, and peers. Take a listen to what real leadership is and what it takes to lead from a living prime example.
War has a way of changing all who face it. Most often the heavy burdens, emotionally, physically, and mentally, are not shared with the public. Meet Noah Galloway, a Purple Heart Recipient who was a Sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division and suffered life-threatening injuries from an IED attack during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Go on the journey of a man, who at points, was left questioning his own humanity as well as the humanity of those surrounding him. It's a very gritty, honest, and revealing insight into what real combat is and can become. Noah was able to find physical and mental wellness as he overcame traumatic depression to find solace in his passion for physical fitness. Topics discussed in this podcast may be sensitive to some listeners. A heinous war crime outlined in the book, Black Hearts: One Platoon's Descent into Madness in Iraq's Triangle of Death, is discussed.
Ep. 5 - Our good buddy Al was a Vietnam helicopter pilot, an infantryman, a Silver Star Recipient, and a member of the Ranger Hall of Fame....oh, and he owns the Soldier Store in the National Infantry Museum. He's one of those guys you want to interview multiple times. If you don't enjoy this interview....it's probably you.A straight talking guy who doesn't talk around the truth. Enjoy!
Ep 4. Today we sit down with Lieutenant Colonel Nate Conkey who has a lot of experience both as a decorated infantry officer himself and someone who trains, coaches, and mentors young men and women to become the best Soldiers and Leaders they can be. Just an overall good conversation with an up and coming leader in today's Army.
Likely one of the more unique stories you're ever going to hear, Michael Kelso, a retired Command Sergeant Major, served in the Rhodesian Army before the US Army, the 75th Ranger Regiment, a member of the Ranger Hall Of Fame, the father of a young Soldier, and was (no kidding) featured in "Soldier of Fortune" magazine. And to add some icing on the cake, he was the Command Sergeant Major in charge of Ranger School when co-host Michael graduated in August of 1999. Small world!Enjoy the show!
Buckle in for this one, folks. This Olympic athlete, world class shooter, and bona fide hero is a member of the vaunted Army Marksmanship Unit here at Fort Benning, GA. However, we discuss something much more important than our average podcast. Kevin is an amputee from the knee down on one leg. This is a candid, in your face discussion bout what that experience was like and how he dealt with it. To go from flat on his back in Afghanistan, to losing a leg, to being considered one of, if not THE, greatest .22 caliber air rifle shot in the world is a story worth listening to. An inspiration for others, he is a hero and someone we can all aspire towards. As always, thanks to our friends at the National Infantry Association for sponsoring. Visit them at www.infantryassn.com and join up. It isn't expensive and, after all, it is YOUR voice for the issues which matter to you. Also thank to DH Beatz for giving us permission to use their awesome song, "I Left My Home". Ep 1 - Major General Milford Beagle Talks 10th Mountain Division. Michael, Brian, and MG Beagle have an in depth discussion about Fort Drum, the 10th Mountain Division, where both Michael and MG Beagle served, as well as MG Beagle's personal history which is sure to impress. A great leader with a great story. Some topics include online presence of Soldiers today and life in the ultra cold of Fort Drum.Excuse some of the mic difficulties. This was our very first recording and we have since dramatically upped our game. We know where we need to improve and we have so bear with us on this one.Again, thanks to to our friends at DH Beatz for allowing us to use their song "I Left My Home".
