Ian and Maggie are back with a winner episode covering the 75th winner, Chicago. They loved the musical numbers and ambition of production, but were left wanting more from the character development.
Writer Courtney Martin wrote this loving, humorous tribute to her mother for her 75th birthday. Along with detailing some of her mom's quirks that used to drive her crazy (but which at age 43 she now appreciates), Courtney also lovingly describes her many incredible qualities. (Previously aired)
Study looks at link between types of firearm ownership and support for political violence. Also, gas prices are on the rise. Plus, why California's electric vehicle industry is slowing down. Finally, the Sacramento Orchid Society's 75th anniversary. Study on Firearm Ownership and Political Violence is an emergency medicine physician and Director of the California Firearm Violence Research Center - the nation's first publicly funded center for research in this field to understand the nature of firearm violence and its underlying causes. Dr. Wintemute joins us about their latest study published today about firearm ownership and support for political violence in the US, which found that subsets of firearm owners - recent purchasers and those who always or nearly always carry loaded firearms when in public - raised the greatest concerns. Gas Prices & EV, Hybrid Sales It's springtime and that means gas prices are on the rise in California. Your favorite “cheap” gas station has probably seen a surge in pricing over the past few weeks. Meantime, sales of electric vehicles seem to be slipping, giving way to hybrids - which use gas. Joining us today to help make sense of it all are Alejandro Lazo, Climate reporter for CalMatters, and John Treanor, spokesperson for AAA Northern California. Sacramento Orchid Society's 75th Jubilee The Sacramento Orchid Society is celebrating its Orchid Jubilee. The society will be holding its 75th annual show this weekend, from April 12-14 at Carmichael Elks Lodge - which will include a special preview night, vendors, demonstrations, plant sales and more. Dave Veach is President of the Sacramento Orchid Society and provides a preview of the event, as well as some tips for orchid enthusiasts on how to get the most out of their plants.

In this Republic Day special, host Dev Goswami and defence expert Shiv Aroor analyse the delayed progress of PM Modi's 'Atmanirbharta' in defence. Why the prolonged wait? What's the stark reality we must confront? Why are we still dependent on Russian equipment even now? Why is self-reliance a painful birthing process? The episode starts with reflections on the Republic Day fanfare, notably the annual parade at Kartavyapath. Amidst the grand spectacle, critics question the hefty costs. Is there a valid place for the R-Day parade in modern India? Shiv disapproves of the display of weaponry, citing the irony of India being a major arms importer while reiterating the urgency for self-reliance in defence equipment. The duo also takes us through the history of India's quest for self-reliance. Why is it not a happy story? Why has India faltered despite having huge needs for military equipment? Was it because of political reluctance to go into having a weapons industry? And why do HAL, DRDO and various other organisations still need more accountability and cohesion? What's the stranglehold of government bodies on defence production? And where do the private companies stand in the midst of this? Finally, what pulls and pressures are required to be fully Atmanirbhar?Well, not everything is gloomy, though. While India remains one of the biggest weapons importers, it has made excellent strides in the last decade. What are those?Tune in to listen!Produced by Anna PriyadarshiniSound Mix by Kapil Dev Singh
