The Mixed Six is a variety podcast structured around beer reviews. For every 10-15 minute segment, we start with a quick beer review. From there, we launch into a wide variety of topics: anything ranging from movies, board games, politics, sports, philosophy, etc. The more "lubricated" the hosts get, the headier the topics become. Basically, while Spence and Caleb share a mixed six of beers, the listeners get a sampler of six bar conversations. Don't like a segment? Skip to the next one. We'll have probably forgotten what we were talking about by then anyway...
The Mixed Six Podcast is an absolute gem in the world of podcasts. From the moment I started listening, I was hooked on the overall vibe and connection between the hosts, Caleb and Spencer. Their strong bond and chemistry can be felt through my speakers, making it feel like I'm hanging out with a couple of friends tackling tough moral dilemmas. The concept of the show, where they discuss nerd topics and beer, is unique and engaging. With six topics per episode and six beers to go along with them, it's a perfect blend of intellectual discussions and light-hearted fun.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the range of topics that Caleb and Spencer cover. They dive into high-brow subjects such as judging an artist's work based on their legacy or contemplating the Singularity, while also discussing more light-hearted topics like the value of S'mores or forming a group from The Avengers for The Great British Baking Show. Their insights and perspectives are always fascinating and thought-provoking, often leading me to try new board games or watch recommended movies based on their discussions.
Additionally, Caleb and Spencer are incredibly articulate and intelligent individuals. Their discussions are well-thought-out and well-spoken, making for a truly captivating listening experience. They have a way of changing my perspective on certain subjects or challenging my own beliefs. It's like going to nerd church and being edified by their thoughts.
While beer ratings are a central part of the show, it's not necessary to be a beer enthusiast to enjoy this podcast. The conversation, topics, and entertainment value are enough to make it enjoyable for anyone, whether they drink or not.
On the downside, one small complaint would be that episodes are not released more frequently. However, considering the longevity of the hosts' livers, it's understandable why they stick to their current schedule.
In conclusion, The Mixed Six Podcast is a must-listen for fans of intellectual discussions, beer, and nerd culture. Caleb and Spencer's insights and chemistry make for a delightful experience that feels like hanging out with friends. The range of topics discussed is impressive, and their recommendations for various forms of entertainment are always on point. Whether you're a beer lover or not, this podcast will provide hours of entertainment and thought-provoking conversations. Cheers to The Mixed Six Podcast!
