Night had fallen over the village of Bodega Bay. Most people were at home, because they knew there were terrible creatures roaming the streets. Only a few brave heroes had ventured out into the cold, dimly lit streets to protect the inhabitants from the horrors that were lurking in the shadows. It didn't take them long to come across the first fiendish creature. As they looked upon the muddy Creature from the Black Lagoon, they were Horrified by Prospero Hall from Ravensburger.Read the full review here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2025/10/25/horrified-saturday-review/Useful LinksHorrified: https://www.ravensburger.co.uk/en-GB/products/games/strategy-games/horrified-universal-monsters-26827Rulebook: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/184667/official-horrified-universal-monsters-board-game-rRules video: https://youtu.be/p4fB42w15Tw?si=_bSdrjDGDEp_rBCMRavensburger: https://www.ravensburger.co.uk/en-GBBGG listing: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/282524/horrifiedMusicIntro Music: Bomber (Sting) by Riot (https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/)Music: Halloween 2025 Vol. 9, produced by Sascha EndeLink: https://ende.app/en/song/13325-halloween-2025-vol-9Music: Stalker Heart of Chornobyl Atmosphere 18, produced by Sascha EndeLink: https://ende.app/en/song/12763-stalker-heart-of-chornobyl-atmosphere-18SupportIf you want to support this podcast financially, please check out the links below:Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/TabletopGamesBlogPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/tabletopgamesblogWebsite: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/support/

This week, Jason is joined by one of the fast rising stars in Netflix's global reality universe, Harry Jowsey! After first breaking onto the scene with Netflix unscripted TV, Harry has become one of the faces of the platform with his own show “Let's Marry Harry” premiering in 2026. He was the centerpiece of Netflix's summer breakout event earlier this year where the streamer spotlighted him as one of its breakout stars. However, Harry's career goes further beyond reality TV as he breaks into acting with starring roles in Netflix's upcoming “The Wrong Paris” and “Billy Knight” where he will be opposite Al Pacino, and the horror indie film Horrified. He is also an entrepreneur launching PASH, a sustainable brand with a philanthropic mission inspired by his personal experience. Harry Jowsey is back — and this time, he's peeling back the curtain on what's changed since his last appearance in 2021. From the unique path he's carved in television to the downside of being “too good” in the industry, Harry gets candid about how he's grown, what he's learned, and how he's navigating the highs and lows of fame. He opens up about dealing with online hate and turning it into a lesson, the realities of living and working in LA's film industry, and why redefining what it means to “take a break” has been a game changer. Harry also dives into the making of Let's Marry Harry, the likelihood of a proposal, his personal goal to read daily, and where he's making the most money right now. Plus, Harry weighs in on the current state of reality TV vs. scripted work, the shows he passed on (and may regret), his experience working as an actor, joining the Unwell network with Alex Cooper, his desire to work on projects that simply make people feel good, and his unfiltered take on today's social media landscape. Harry reveals all this and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! The first time I had much use for poetry came in college, freshmen year. My professor assigned each of us to memorize a poem and recite it in class. Horrified, I chose ee cummings' "anyone lived in a pretty how town" and began the process of reading it a million times between tennis practices and snowball fights. Over and over and over I read it, trying to memorize how the words and lines zipped together without the usual literary wardrobe of grammar. I can still remember pieces, twenty five years later: "anyone lived in a pretty how town / with up so many floating bells down..." "no one loved him more by more..." As I read and read, I realized the poem featured two characters named "anyone" and "no one." I began to understand how the years passed quickly through the lines and stanzas, as cycles of time spun through small word choices. I saw its heartbreak. Reading by reading I began to find it utterly beautiful. By the time my friends and I went out to practice for our class presentation by reciting our poems in the middle of Pomona College's outdoor Greek theater late one night, I loved it. But I was still really nervous. As an educator, I've often wondered how to help students get as close up to a poem as I got to ee cummings' "anyone lived in a pretty how town." What makes it possible to step inside the story of a poem, try on its language, dream its dreams? Maybe without having to recite it though? This month I had a chance to explore some of Robert Scott Root-Bernstein and Michèle Root-Bernstein book, Sparks of Genius: The Thirteen Thinking Tools of the World's Most Creative People. Inside, they discuss the risk of education staying on a kind of hypothetical parallel track to the realities of the world, each so close to each other and yet never quite touching. Imagination and experience, they suggest, have become disconnected. "This being the case," write the Root-Bernsteins, "the task for educators, self-learners, and parents is simply put: to reunite the two. And the world's most creative people tell us how in their own words and deeds, in their own explorations of their own minds at work. What they find as individuals, when taken as a whole, is a common set of thinking tools at the heart of creative understanding" (24-25). What are these tools, you might well ask, and what do they have to do with ee cummings, students, and the study of poetry? The tools are: observing, imaging, abstracting, recognizing patterns, forming patterns, analogizing, body thinking, empathizing, dimensional thinking, modeling, playing, transforming, and synthesizing. They're pretty fascinating to play around with when it comes to designing curriculum. How might we help students better understand a poem, using these tools? I decided to experiment with designing around patterns when it comes to ee cummings, a master of writing in rhythms and cycles. The nexus of patterns and poetry had me thinking of blackout poetry at first, but of course, I already had a poem. I didn't need a new one. So I decided to try a new spin on the blackout - blacking out for discovering meaning, instead of to create a new poem. Instead of a blackout poem, I would try a poem blackout, illuminating what patterns I could find by eliminating everything else. For me, the results were powerful. So today on the pod, let me walk you through how to do a poem blackout of your own in class, with any poem you might want to dig deeply into with students. If you love blackout poetry, I think you'll love this riff. As usual, I really encourage you to check out the show notes for the oh-so-necessary visuals to complement this episode. The following story is taken from a tweet a few days ago sent out by The Redheaded Troublemaker (https://x.com/try2underit).I've Been Banned from Tractor SupplyYesterday I was at my local TSC store buying a large bag of my dog's food for my Australian Cattle Dog. I was in the checkout when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog? What did she think I had an elephant? So, since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Dog Diet again.I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but I'd lost 10 pounds before I woke up in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pockets with dog nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well, and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)Horrified, she asked me if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off the curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass end and a car hit me.I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. I'm now banned from Tractor Supply. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of things to say.And they are incredibly good at telling stories. Here's the tweet: https://twitter.com/try2underit/status/1974678659261706527Book Marketing Success is a reader-supported publication. Rev. Henry Ndukuba leads the Anglican Church in Nigeria. He said, “The Church of Nigeria believes that this moment calls for prayer for the Church of Wales, hoping that the Church of England will not follow in her steps. We should hold them in our prayers with a clear message that hope lies only in true repentance and godliness.” To its credit, The Anglican Church of Nigeria previously severed ties with the Episcopal Church in the United States over a similar situation. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 warns, “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” British pro-lifer targeted a third time for praying outside abortion mill Police in the United Kingdom are investigating a woman for praying outside an abortion mill. It's the third time police have gone after Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, Director of the March for Life UK, over her silent prayers. West Midlands Police previously arrested her twice. Vaughan-Spruce won a settlement over the wrongful arrests worth about $17,500. However, officials continue to target her. Jeremiah Igunnubole, legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom International, said, “We will continue to robustly challenge this unjust censorship, and support Isabel's right to think and believe freely.” Could Supreme Court overturn homosexual marriage ruling? In the United States, Liberty Counsel recently asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case of a Christian county clerk. Kim Davis, the former Rowan County, Kentucky clerk, refused to issue marriage licenses to homosexual couples. She was the first victim to be jailed and sued following the infamous 2015 Obergefell ruling. The Supreme Court ruling legalized faux same-sex marriage nationwide. Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “Kim Davis' case underscores why the U.S. Supreme Court should overturn the wrongly decided Obergefell v. Hodges opinion because it threatens the religious liberty of Americans who believe that marriage is a sacred union between one man and one woman.” U.S. debt hits $37 trillion The U.S. national debt hit $37 trillion for the first time, according to a Tuesday report from the Treasury Department. The national debt is projected to reach 99% of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product this year which is the measure of the total economic activity within a country. The Peter G. Peterson Foundation noted that the debt amounts to $280,000 per household in America and is growing at over five billion dollars per day. Fewer Americans drink alcohol A survey from Gallup found that the percentage of Americans who use alcoholic beverages fell to a record low of 54 percent. Young adults are even less likely to drink alcohol at 50 percent. And for the first time, over 50 percent of U.S. adults say drinking one or two alcoholic drinks a day is bad for one's health. That number is up from 28 percent in 2015. Young adults are even more likely to say drinking is bad for their health at 66 percent. Gallup noted, “Declines in alcohol consumption do not appear to be caused by people shifting to other mood-altering substances.” Answers in Genesis announces Truth Traveler attractions in Pigeon Forge & Branson And finally, Answers in Genesis is opening two new Bible attractions, one in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and the other in Branson, Missouri. The Truth Traveler attractions feature a 5D experience that blends cutting-edge virtual reality, motion seating, and sensory effects to transport you through pivotal moments in Biblical history. The website says, “Feel the ground shake as the floodwaters rise, stand in awe at the towering walls of Babel, and witness history unfold in breathtaking detail.” Ken Ham, the CEO of Answers in Genesis, said, “Please pray with us that these attractions will reach thousands of families with the message of the truth of God's Word and the Gospel.” Psalm 111:2, 4 says, “Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them. … He has caused His wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, August 14th, in the year of our Lord 2025. One evening I had been working on a project for my art class and decided to go and make a coffee. I could hear the chairs moving around down stairs and I figured I'd have a chat with whomever was there while the kettle was boiling. I walked down the stairs calling out a ‘hi' as I went to find no one there? I could have sworn someone would be there and I had not heard the back door go? Puzzled, I made my coffee and went back to my room. A bit later on I could hear the same noises again and I went to investigate. Again there was no one there? America is now on a watchlist for the the health of civil society for “sustained attacks on civic freedoms.” We have to turn this around. Did Trump just confess to his Epstein role? Is he treating "the financially-lubricated sex trafficking of women as mere [employment]?" How does a 16 yr old come to work at a spa at Mar-a-Lago? Will Trump pardon Diddy? Does Trump have a special place in his heart for the trafficking and abuse of young women and girls? Democrats did something important for democracy and the mainstream media ignored it. Or are the Dems not fighting loud enough with their message? Are we now living in the age of "Trump traveling terrorism?" If you don't agree with Trump - it's scary to travel.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

I was honoured to be asked by Senator Lynn Ruane to interview Dr. Mohammed Mustafa in Trinity College this week. Dr. Mo, as he's known, is an emergency medicine doctor who spent two stints working in Gaza over the last eighteen months. Horrified by what he saw, and feeling deeply conntected to it via his Palestinian heritage, he has dedicated his time since to doing everything he can to get medical aid into the region. I'm delighted to bring a recording of this conversation to you as this week's Friday episode. The more people who hear from Dr. Mo, the better. In his day there was great disorder among the princes of Russia and in the Russian Church. One of the rival princes appointed a monk named Kim as Metropolitan of Kiev without seeking the blessing of the Patriarch of Constantinople, as was still done at that time. The Patriarch sent Metropolitan Constantine to investigate, and he deposed Kim and banished the priests whom Kim had ordained. This led to strife among the people, some of whom supported Constantine, some Kim. Finally, at the request of the princes, the Patriarch sent a third Metropolitan, and both Kim and Constantine were removed. When Constantine died in 1159, his will ordered that he not be buried, but cast out to be eaten by dogs, since he felt that he was guilty of sowing discord in the Church. Horrified, but unwilling to go against his last wishes, the people threw his body outside as he had ordered. During the three days that it lay exposed, Kiev was wracked with thunderstorms and earth tremors, in which eight people were killed. Finally the Prince of Kiev ordered that the Metropolitan's body be buried in the church, and the weather immediately became calm.
Rasheed Wesley Jr. is here, and it's like he's been here 1,000 times before. Perhaps he's always been here. Horrifying.

Okay everyone, think about your tongue. Maybe move it around a bit, check in with it, consider what it means to you. Now imagine that your tongue suddenly shriveled up and fell off and that in its place is a tongue-sized isopod aka rollie pollie aka pillbug. Just there, hanging out, forever. How are you feeling? Horrified? Disgusted? Hey, we get it. But at least you’ll never be alone again. Believe it or not, this is not some bad creative writing exercise. This is a very real parasite. In fact, it’s not just one but a whole group of them. Fortunately for us humans, these tongue-replacing isopods don’t target mammals but rather various fish species (unfortunately for the fish). And in this week’s episode, we’re getting up close and personal with these bizarre (and dare we say cute?) organ-replacing parasites. If you’re wondering why on earth you should care about a niche parasite like this one or why it might be a bad idea to get rid of all of earth’s parasites, then we warmly invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy this parasite appreciation hour.
