“Don't let your patients brush before whitening—it causes sensitivity.” You've probably heard this one floating around the internet or taught by supply companies and educators. But here's the truth: it's a false trend that just won't die. This week's episode breaks down why brushing before a whitening appointment is NOT the enemy, where this misinformation started, and what actually matters when it comes to enamel, fluoride, and prep steps. ⏱ Timestamps: 00:00 – Intro: The “don't brush” whitening myth 00:56 – Where this info comes from (uneducated supply companies & trainers) 01:55 – Logic check: If brushing caused sensitivity, enamel would be in trouble daily 02:44 – Why enamel is one of the strongest structures in the body 03:42 – Charcoal toothpaste vs. regular toothpaste: when abrasion does matter 04:39 – The real science: fluoride before whitening & faulty bonding 06:08 – Brushing hard with gum disease = bleeding, not sensitivity 07:02 – My take: Don't follow the false trend. ✅ Regular brushing is fine ⚡ Concerned about fluoride? Use a non-fluorinated option
Grassy biomes, including grasslands, savannahs and crops, cover over 40% of all land on Earth. They play a significant role in carbon and silica cycles and have a large impact upon the climate. Grasslands (grass-dominated ecosystems) have shaped the evolution of numerous groups of organisms, most obviously grazing mammals, and can support a huge amount of biodiversity. Humans evolved in the savannas and through domestication of grasses formed agriculture, leading to a modern diet dominated by grasses such as oats, rice, wheat and corn. As anthropogenic climate change threatens large scale uncertainty, it's vital that we understand the controls that govern the success of this fundamentally important group. It is only by studying the evolutionary history of grasses that we might be able to predict how they will fare in future. Joining us in this episode to speak about the challenges of piecing together the evolutionary history of grasses from a relatively poor fossil record is Prof. Caroline Stromberg of the University of Washington.

Wild game steaks provide a sustainable and flavorful alternative to conventional beef. Understanding the anatomy of the animal helps in selecting the best cuts. Leg steaks are often a result of lazy butchering practices. The backstrap is one of the most prized cuts due to its tenderness. Cooking in stainless steel or cast iron enhances the flavor through the Maillard reaction. An excellent sear and browning is crucial for steak. Cast iron pans retain and evenly distribute heat well. Always preheat your pan to avoid food sticking. Grilling requires two heat zones for optimal cooking. Let your steak rest to redistribute juices. Sauces should enhance, not cover up the meat's flavor. Brown butter is a simple yet effective sauce. Experiment with different cooking methods for steak. Avoid overcooking steak in sous vide to prevent mushiness. Quality seasoning enhances the steak without overpowering it. Marijuana use can complicate sedation during dental procedures. Charcoal toothpaste is too abrasive for regular use. Oil pulling lacks proven benefits for dental health. Pastor Andrew Coleman continues his sermon series, "After the Resurrection," by preaching from John 21:9–17. In this powerful message, we revisit Jesus' restorative encounter with Peter after the resurrection. Around a charcoal fire—echoing the place of Peter's denial—Jesus extends forgiveness, grace, and a renewed calling. Rather than condemning Peter, Jesus meets him in his shame and gently restores him with the question, “Do you love me?” This sermon explores the depth of Christ's mercy and how He transforms our failures into opportunities for faithful service. From this passage, we see that Jesus not only forgives but also invites us into His kingdom work. Believers are challenged to reflect: Are you receiving God's grace over your guilt? Does your love for Christ show through your obedience? Is your walk with Him growing and maturing like Peter's did? No matter your past, Jesus calls you forward—with grace, purpose, and hope. ________________________________________ Links to Sermon Notes & Answers: ➤Sermon Notes (Blank): https://www.sheridanhills.org/_files/ugd/30fec2_735e6245581a45d0b5e6e8b3be9e73f9.pdf ➤Sermon Notes (Answers): https://www.sheridanhills.org/_files/ugd/30fec2_b35c9c80675b4a84960061d490bab9c9.pdf ________________________________________ In this video: Review of previous sermons in series Main Points Application ________________________________________ Subscribe to this channel to catch weekly expositional sermons from the Bible. ________________________________________ Explore more sermons and information: https://www.sheridanhills.org/watch-new ________________________________________ Follow us: ➤Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sheridanhills/ ➤Twitter: https://twitter.com/sheridanhills01 ➤Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sheridanhills/
Homily from the Third Sunday of Easter To be restored, we must revisit the place of ruin. When we are called to move on, we may need to revisit the places in our lives that need healing in order to allow the Lord to change our future. Mass Readings from May, 4th, 2025: Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41 Psalm 30:2, 4, 5-6, 11-12, 13Revelation 5:11-14 John 21:1-19
Bishop Tony Percy says St. Peter shows how personal weakness can become strength. Jesus does not ‘point the finger' at Peter but rather questions him three times about his love. St. Peter's story invites us to acknowledge our failures honestly and draw closer to Christ's love, praying simply, “Jesus, you know all things, you know that I love you.”

The Art of Experimentation – Stop Playing It Safe!Listen, if you've been doing the same thing over and over and expecting some grand artistic breakthrough, I've got news for you: IT'S NOT COMING. You're just drawing the same stale, predictable stuff, like a baker who only knows how to make plain white bread. You need to throw some jalapeños in there, swirl in some chocolate—GET WEIRD.This week on the podcast, we're diving into The Art of Experimentation—breaking out of your artistic rut, trying new mediums, and embracing the glorious mess of creativity. Because if you're not failing, you're not trying hard enough.Because safe is boring. Safe is a creative dead end. The best artists? They took RISKS. Picasso didn't stay in his Blue Period forever, and neither should you.Trying new styles or mediums unlocks parts of your brain that have been asleep at the wheel. You're going to discover new ways to express yourself, new ideas, and maybe even a little bit of that long-lost joy in creating. Remember joy? Here are some simple ways to punch fear in the face and start experimenting:Draw with your non-dominant hand – It'll be terrible, but it'll teach you to let go of perfection.Limit yourself to three colors – Forces you to think differently about shading and composition.Make an ugly drawing ON PURPOSE – See what happens when you're not worried about making it “good.”Use a tool you've never touched before – Charcoal, digital, ink wash, finger painting, crayons, whatever. Just break out of your default. Now, if you're bringing this to someone who's set in their ways (cough your mom cough), you've got to make it fun and low-pressure. Here's how:Make it a game – Timed drawings, absurd prompts, blind contour drawing. People forget they're “bad” at something when they're laughing.Use nostalgia – “Remember doodling in the margins of your high school notebooks? Let's do that again.”Destroy the idea of perfection – Tell them to make something ugly on purpose. Takes the fear right out of it.Sneak attack – Leave some markers and a sketchbook on the table. Watch curiosity do its thing. At the end of the day, creativity is about exploration. So stop playing it safe, grab a weird-ass medium, and make something ridiculous. You might just surprise yourself.LINKS:Michael Zulli and his amazing run on TMNT back in the Miarage days, great article https://youtu.be/dLSzmcA2sNAhttps://youtu.be/aIq9h0JnzcMWebsite for poses, with timers and everything, a great warm up tool! In episode 274 we learn about environmentally friendly charcoal with Ben Jablonski from The Good Charcoal and we go back in time to 1959 with author, Phil Coffin as we discuss his books, When Baseball Was Still Topps and A Baseball Book of Days. Plus Chef Ray Sheehan assumes guest co-hosting duties. Ben Jablonski is the co-founder of The Good Charcoal. The company's mission is good charcoal, good for the environment, good for the community. Ben grew up in Australia where grilling was central to celebrations or gatherings. In 2020, Ben wanted to give consumers a healthy charcoal alternative. The Good Charcoal won a 2023 leadership award through the Forest Stewardship Council due to their sustainability efforts in Namibia. As a leader in building ethical organizations, Ben has been featured in The Washington Post, Yahoo! Finance, and The Weather Channel to talk about how The Good Charcoal is making a positive impact on the environment and people's health. Go to https://www.thegoodcharcoal.com/ for more information. Phil Coffin is a longtime editor at The New York Times and a member of the Society for American Baseball Research. He joined us to discuss his two books, When Baseball Was Still Topps: Portraits of the Game in 1959, Card by Card and A Baseball Book of Days: Thirty-One Moments That Transformed the Game. When Baseball Was Still Topps tells the importance of baseball in 1959 while looking at every card in the 1959 Topps set and provides fascinating details. A Baseball Book of Days provides a detailed narrative of the game's most important moments, told in 31 singular, remarkable days. Off-Grid Cooking: Grills, Camp Stoves, and Fuel Storage | episode 320 When the grid goes down, cooking doesn't have to stop. Whether it's a power outage or an off-grid adventure, having reliable cooking methods is essential. Let's break down two of the best options—grills and camp stoves—and how to store enough fuel to keep them running. Grills: Charcoal vs. Propane Grills are a go-to for many preppers. Charcoal grills offer simplicity and flavor, but they require more effort to manage. Charcoal can take time to light, and temperature control isn't as precise. However, charcoal stores indefinitely if kept dry, making it a solid long-term prep. On the other hand, propane grills heat up quickly and allow for precise temperature control. They're easy to use and excellent for quick meals. The downside? Propane canisters are finite, and without regular refills, they won't last forever. Storing multiple propane tanks ensures longer use, but you'll need a safe, ventilated space. Camp Stoves with Butane For indoor cooking, camp stoves fueled by butane are a top choice. Compact and efficient, butane stoves are easy to set up and burn cleanly, making them safe for inside use. They're perfect for boiling water, heating food, or even frying. The catch? Butane canisters can be expensive and don't last long under heavy use. Fuel Storage Tips Charcoal: Store in airtight bins or sealed bags to keep it dry. Propane: Keep tanks outside in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Butane: Stockpile extra canisters, but be mindful of temperature changes that can affect pressure. By diversifying your cooking methods and ensuring ample fuel storage, you'll be ready to cook no matter the situation.

Ben is an extraordinary artist, and his medium of choice—charcoal—has brought a bold and unique voice to the world of art. What truly sets Ben apart is his unwavering commitment to working from life. Whether it's a windswept landscape, a rugged portrait, or the fleeting play of light and shadow, Ben captures the essence of the moment with a directness and honesty that's nothing short of breathtaking. His approach to charcoal is mesmerizing, blending precision with a raw, almost sculptural quality that makes his work so distinctive. You may have seen Ben and me collaborating in some of my past videos, where his talent and sharp sense of humor always bring a spark of creativity to the table. This time, we're diving deeper—talking about his journey as an artist, the challenges he's faced, and his unique perspective on capturing the world in shades of black and white. We'll also chat about the New Zealand art scene, his creative process, and what it's been like accompanying me on plein air adventures. Ben's ability to observe and translate what he sees into bold, dynamic works of art is bound to resonate with anyone passionate about connecting with their environment through creativity. This is one you won't want to miss. Tune in to The Creative Endeavour wherever you get your podcasts, and let's get inspired by Ben's incredible journey together. Trends don't always mean that the trend has the person's best interest in mind. Most often it means the opposite—someone hears that a supplement or a product in the health space can help them, so they use it for a while, and don't realize it's causing problems that may not always show up in the moment, but instead show up down the road. Almost everyone is looking for a quick fix these days and many find that over time, after exhausting themselves searching for a quick fix for years, that it's going to take more than trendy bio hacks to heal a deep-seeded condition that requires real answers. There's nothing more annoying about having setbacks or slowdowns when something that someone has been told works so good, could and usually does, end up working so bad. It's truly a game of the Wild West out there when it comes to trying to heal. There are supplements that people invest their time, money, and energy in that backfire greatly at the cost of the person's future health. In this first episode of many more to come about problematic and damaging supplements, you may have an awakening that can truly have your back. In this episode… • Learn about problematic supplements such as alkaline ionizer water machines, apple cider vinegar, bentonite clay and other clays, caffeine, charcoal, chlorella, chlorine dioxide, colostrum and cod liver oil. • Uncover what causes people's healing process to move downwards when it had previously been trending upwards. • Learn about the specific supplements that some might think are helpful but are actually damaging to the body. • Discover the reason alkaline ionizer water machines can increase the amount of toxic heavy metals in the body. • Learn what effect apple cider vinegar can have on a person's gastric glands and calcium. • Discover what supplement can be found in different pills and powders that is hard on the intestinal tract lining. • Uncover the many different impacts that caffeine can have on the body. • Learn about how this supplement can prevent nutrients from getting to someone's organs. • Discover the different effects that chlorella, chlorine dioxide and colostrum can have on the body. • Learn what has changed about cod liver oil from 800 years ago to now. All this and more, tune in and don't miss out on this important episode. You can revisit this episode anytime you need it. For more information visit www.medicalmedium.com
