The feeding miracles of the Gospels all contain a symbolic dimension pointing to a deeper union with God. Do not settle for a superficial relationship with the Divine but seek a closer walk with God. It is this union of intimacy that Jesus proffers when he says "I am the bread of life." Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty" (John 6:35). Let's not limit ourselves to a tasty morsel when the Father is offering a celebratory banquet through his Son, Jesus Christ.

Paul is encouraging us to establish a baseline in our lives of joy, faith and hope in Christ. Our Lord has overcome evil and granted us eternal life. As a result, the challenges we face on a daily basis can be met with an attitude of calm and confidence that God is with us and will enable us to live as overcomers. For this reason, we can live joyfully and not be overtaken by anxiety and fear. The Lord is near. We are not alone and that makes all the difference.

In Philippians 3:1220, Paul reminds us that the Christian life is not about having arrived, but about continuing to follow Christ with faithfulness and perseverance. This Sunday, well reflect on what it means to press forward together as a church, avoiding both legalism and complacency, and living as citizens of heaven in the present. As we grow in Christ, we are invited not to stand still, but to move forward in maturity, obedience, and love.

This Sunday well be in Philippians 2:1218, where Paul invites us to take our faith seriously while trusting deeply in Gods work within us. Together well explore what it means to work out what God is already doing in our lives, how spiritual growth happens over time, and how our lives can shine with Christs light in a challenging world. Well also be reminded that even in sacrifice and difficulty, joy is possible when our hope is rooted in Jesus. Join us as we learn how to live out our faith with humility, faithfulness, and joy.

Paul reminds the Philippian church to establish their spirit of unity upon the blessings they have received in Jesus Christ. Whatever differences they might hold are insignificant compared to the bounty they share in Jesus. As a result the Apostle Paul encourages the members of the community to be generous and kind to one another even as they hold different opinions on various matters. To emphasize his point Paul employs the wonderful hymn of praise that celebrates Christ's downward path of humility which serves as a model for us all to follow.

Paul gives thanks for both the prayers and the help of the Holy Spirit as he writes to the Philippian church from his jail cell. In his mind the partnership of the community of faith and the support of the Holy Spirit will bring about his deliverance. We also experience the work of God in our lives as we rely upon Christs presence and actively engage his church in a spirit of prayer and devotion. The reality is that we are stronger together rather than pursuing a solitary spiritual journey.

The human journey is meant to be a path towards authenticity, integration, and wholeness. For this to happen we need to embrace our spiritual connection to God so that we become 'spiritual/physical' beings. The apostle Paul argues that this maturation process takes place as we allow the love of Christ to fill us with his abounding love. As this 'filling up' happens Chist's love abundnatly spills over to everyone that we meet. God's love to us and through us filling God's creation with agape love.

The story of the incarnation is a story of God working on our behalf. God breaks into our world in the birth of a child who becomes our Saviour. The prophet Isaiah understood this truth when he speaks of the Royal Agent (the child!) as the Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). These dynamic names speak of the Childs capacity to introduce a new Kingdom of God established upon justice and righteousness and not upon oppression, exploitation and warfare.

The Gospel of John does not begin with the nativity stories of the baby Jesus. Instead, John reaches back into the ancient past and links the primordial "logos" with the "living Word" found in the presence of Jesus Christ. John develops this motif of Jesus' eternal presence by emphasizing the themes of "life, light and love" which are abundantly manifested in the life of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Advent is a call to wake up to the physical/spiritual reality of life in Christ. It is a journey of the heart from birth to death. During our journey many distracting voices will be heard so it is necessary to guard your heart. Protect your heart even as Mary treasured the words of the shepherds and protected her own heart. Dont be casual about it. Be vigilant, live with awareness and guard your heart.

The Jesus story is rooted in the past and continues into the future. Past prophets spoke of the coming King and the New Testament writers speak of the Kings return. Our job today is to be attentive to the Kings voice in our daily regime even as the scriptures say, Today if you hear his voice! (Hebrews 3:15). May we listen and hear his voice during these early days of Advent.

This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent as we look toward the coming of Christ with hope. In Matthew 2:112 we discover that God placed far more in the manger than anyone expected. The gold, frankincense and myrrh point to Jesus as our King, our Priest and our Saviour. As we enter this season together we will reflect on what it means to receive Him fully and to trust the greatness of the One who came to us in such a humble way. Join us as we begin Advent with hope and worship.

This Sunday we continue in Proverbs and look at how Gods wisdom strengthens and nourishes our lives. Proverbs 24 verses 3 to 6 verses 13 to 14 and verse 16 show that wisdom builds a stable foundation sweetens and enriches the soul and helps the righteous rise again when life becomes difficult. Wisdom is not just information. It is Gods shaping power for everyday life. Join us as we explore how to live with a wisdom that is strong life giving and rooted in hope.

This week we continue our walk through Proverbs by looking at what God truly desires from us. Proverbs 21 reminds us that God weighs the heart, not just our habits, and that real worship is expressed through righteousness, justice, and generosity. Well explore how God shapes our hearts, why obedience matters more than ritual, and how we can trust Him for every outcome.

Proverbial wisdom is finally about helping people to live good lives to live in harmony with God and your neighbor. As such, the teaching transcends any specific time period reaching into our contemporary age. The values presented in Proverbs 13 continue to have urgency and relevance in our present day to day. May we listen and follow the path of good living.

The writer of Proverbs presents the picture of Wisdom throwing a great banquet and inviting everyone to attend. For various reasons some (the scoffers) refuse the invitation while others (the wise) say yes. The point of the story is to choose wisdom over all other options. Nothing is more important than choosing wisdom. Wisdom is vital because it speaks to the hearts intention of seeking God above all else. When we seek God first we live wisely.

The proverbial writer reveals the characteristics of wisdom as truth, justice and righteousness. Together they construct a path that leads to success, prosperity and long life. The question for the reader (then and now) is What do we want? Do we want to dig down deep into the treasures of wisdom or do we want to stay on the surface and simply go our own way? May we make our choice to hear instruction and be wise and receive the promise of life and blessing from the Lord (v35).

A major theme in the Psalter is that God helps us in every stage of life as we look to him as our great Comforter. No matter what 'Goliath' we are fighting in our everyday God is by our side to strengthen our weary hands. The secret is to keep looking to God and not be dissuaded by other things. Such is the message of Psalm 144 that Yahweh is our rock and refuge, our Deliverer, in every storm of life.

Proverbs is a book concerning the development of practical wisdom concerning our day to day living. Our chapter for this week focuses on money, hard work, and the values we live by. Lets continue to listen with open hearts to the beauty of ancient wisdom.

This week we turn to Proverbs 4:1027 where Solomon reminds us that wisdom is more than knowledge, it is a path we walk. The call is simple but weighty:Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.We will explore what it means to keep our hearts aligned with God and to stay on His path, even when other roads look easier or more attractive. Join us as we reflect on how God has given us a new heart in Christ and invites us to walk in His wisdom each day.

God builds the universe even as we build a house. Both with planning, skill and wisdom. Both are done in time and over time step by step with intelligence, grace and care. A difference is that God remains forever faithful in his building exercise while we frequently become frustrated and fatigued by the demands of construction. May we receive Solomons wisdom on how to build our house well even as our Lord builds (and sustains) the cosmos.

King Solomon provides a foundational truth for us to follow: Seek wisdom and find God; seek God and find wisdom. If we truly want to know God we will discover true wisdom; if we truly want to know wisdom we will find God. It makes sense that God and wisdom go together. May we hear Solomons instruction and come to know our eternally wise God more and more.

The Book of Proverbs is full of practical wisdom that guides us into a full and productive life. It begins by entering into a relationship of trust (fearing the Lord) with our Creator/Redeemer God. Upon entering this I-Thou covenant we are invited to keep seeking wisdom and live out our lives in confidence that Yahweh is on our side. Indeed, He desires to lead us into a path of blessedness, meaning and joyful living.

All month we have been exploring what it means to build a church for Gods Kingdom, being rooted in Christ, living the new life He gives, joining His mission, and celebrating the unity of His people. This Sunday we conclude the series withEphesians 3:721, Far More Than We Ask or Imagine.In this powerful passage Paul prays that the church would be strengthened by the Spirit, rooted and grounded in love, and filled with all the fullness of God. It is a reminder that the church is not built by our efforts alone but by Gods power at work within us, a power far greater than we can dream or imagine.

This week we continue our seriesGrowing Together: Building a Church for the Kingdomby looking at 1 Corinthians 12:1227. The Apostle Paul reminds us that the church is one body made up of many different members. Each person has a role, and every role matters. Our uniqueness is not an accident, it is an assignment from God. Together, we reflect the fullness of Christ as we honour one another and serve for His glory.

In Christ, we are made new and called to live as new people. Were not just forgiven but commissioned as ambassadors of reconciliation.

Before we grow wide, we must grow deep. Being rooted in Christ gives us the strength,stability, and nourishment to flourish.

As we close the season of Pentecost we realize that God has expanded his church from Palestine to cover the whole world. It is our job today to continue in this worldwide ministry of bringing down walls and freeing people from various types of oppression. May we continue in the spirit of Barnabas and Saul to bring light, freedom, and joy to a world bound in darkness captivity and sorrow.

In Peters explanation of the Gentiles conversion to the Jerusalem church we learn that God transcends all barriers and draws people to himself from all walks of life. There is no human barrier that prevents the Spirit of God from working in our lives this is the Good News! If this is the case it is not our job to erect more walls of separation but to bring them down and welcome all in the name of Christ.

Acts chapter 10 is a pivotal chapter in the Book of Acts. In it we see the doors opening wide for the inclusion of the Gentiles into the church of Christ. Luke underlines the truth that God shows no partiality (10:34) in his consideration of individuals. We are all welcomed as we turn to God because Jesus is Lord of all (v36). May we have thankful hearts that God has received us (Gentiles) into his kingdom of grace, mercy and love.

The healings of both Aeneas and Tabitha represent the ongoing efficacy of the living Christ. Jesus is not simply a 'dead hero' but is alive and active through his indwelling Holy Spirit. It is Jesus who heals Aeneas and raises Tabitha to life and it is the same Jesus who penetrates our lives and empowers his church for life-changing ministry today.

The conversion story of Saul on the road to Damascus is a key event in the Book of Acts. Saul is transformed from being a persecutor of the church into a pivotal apostle in the presentation of the Gospel. Saul moves from a position of resistance to God's overtures to diligently seeking the new wave of the Holy Spirit's presence in his life. We also are invited to open up our lives to the new work of the Spirit that we might become fully available to God's enlivening power in our world today.

As the church grows more and more people are brought into God's kingdom. People who are different from us but still persons created in the image of God. This is a central point in our story of Philip meeting the Ethiopian Eunuch who is seeking to know God (Acts 8). How does Philip respond to this outsider - a person different by nationality, ethnicity and gender? Does Philip reach out or reject the God-seeker? Such questions remain as critical issues in our day which is marked by varying degrees of prejudice, racism, oppression and hatred.

As the early church grew, challenges arose that threatened its unity. The apostles responded with prayer and trusted Spirit filled leaders to serve practical needs. This Fathers Day, well reflect on how God uses ordinary people, fathers, mentors, and everyday servants to build His church and carry out His mission. Faithful service, whether seen or behind the scenes, is vital in Gods kingdom.

On this Pentecost Sunday we hear Luke's stories of the sick being healed, individuals being saved, and the apostles being released from prison in the middle of the night by the angel of the Lord! Wondrous times celebrating the power and work of the Holy Spirit of God! Even so the Holy Spirit continues to work in the church of Christ as we are receptive to his leading and obedient to his call.

The early church was a community satiated with love, generosity and compassion. As contemporary Christians we look back on those days with a certain wistfulness of spirit. We ask ourselves if the church cannot experience such grace, kindness and compassion for others today? Yet the early church was not perfect as the desire for first place and greed for money was not unknown. As such, Lukes community of faith is both a model to emulate and a cautionary tale of negative outcomes.

Resistance in our faith journey is a fact and occurs both on a personal and collective level. What is needed is an ongoing dependence upon God to meet the daily challenges and hurdles that come our way. Especially important is to be receptive to the fresh inspiration of the Holy Spirit in our day to day faith walk. To seek the presence and power of the Spirit of God is critical if we are to overcome the subtleties of the evil one. May we learn from Peter and John as they model this dependence upon God as thy pass through difficult and challenging times.

The church in action energized by the Holy Spirit brings about healing, restoration, and new life. Such blessings happen not through our own power but by the power of Jesus. So it is Jesus, through his church, to all of humankind - this is what it means to be the people of God revealing the Kingdom of God. And this is what is occurring as we pick up the story of Peter and John and the healing of the lame man. It reveals the new life of Gods kingdom coming to fruition through the Spirit of Jesus who lives within us.

In Acts 2:42-47, we see a church that thrived because of its devotion to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. This passage shows us the marks of a community deeply rooted in Christwhere love, care, and growth happen naturally. Join us as we explore how we can become that kind of church, a place where everyone can find belonging and purpose.

The church comes to life through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit invades our lives through the work of Jesus Christ and energizes us to become witnesses of Christ in both word and deed. We become ambassadors of Jesus! We become His hands and feet to usher in His compassion, mercy, and love to a hurting world. May we receive the call of the Great Sender and become his sent ones to our urban world.

Much of life is about waiting. We wait for all kinds of things concerning employment, family relationships, school, holidays and much more. We also spend time waiting upon God and listening for his direction. It is this experience of waiting that we find as we begin our series on The Book of Acts. It raises the question for us of What is the nature of our waiting? Is it an empty waiting of just looking at a clock or do we wait in expectation that God is working in our midst? The disciples find that as they wait in trust God is bringing about a new epoch of empowerment by his Spirit.

The resurrection of Christ is the defining point in the history of humankind. Death has been defeated and resurrection life is ours in Jesus Christ! As a result we are invited to live the abundant life even now as we make our journey under God's sun. May our reflection on Matthew's account of the empty tomb (Matthew 28) fill us with the hope and joy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on this Easter weekend.

A key question continues to be "Who is Jesus?" It was asked in the first century (Matthew 21:10) and continues to be asked today. Is Jesus primarily a great teacher? A good model for living? A crazy person? Or our ever present living Lord? During this Easter season may we keep exploring this pivotal question of 'Who Jesus Is?' and continue to deepen our relationship with our living Lord.

As we come to the close of our reflections on King David we hear the exciting words of "an eternal covenant" instituted by Yahweh God. God wants to be in relationship with David and all in his train forever. And through Jesus the Son of David we are members of this eternal covenant. Let us rejoice and give exuberant thanks to our gracious God for the wideness of his mercy and love.

Throughout First and Second Samuel we hear about David. But in 2 Samuel 22 we hear the voice of David speaking in first person David speaking directly to his loving God. No longer the voice of a Warrior but David speaking as a poet announcing his love to his loving Father. In this Psalm we also are invited to offer our praise and devotion to our Most High God who remains faithful and kind throughout each and every generation.

Join us this Sunday as we explore Davids powerful confession after being confronted by the prophet Nathan. Through this moment of truth, we see both the consequences of sin and the boundless grace of God. No matter our failures, God offers forgiveness and restoration when we turn to Him in repentance.

King David is described as a person who has a heart after God, yet he is also a person who carries his own foibles. The story of his relationship with Bathsheba and his orchestration of Uriahs death makes this fact very clear. Nevertheless, the Lord remains faithful to David despite his unfaithfulness. It is this response of grace and forgiveness towards David that brings encouragement to our sinful hearts today. Gods amazing grace is available for us all so let us go to him continually with honest and authentic hearts.

David has experienced the compassionate love (kindness) of God and he wants to share it with others. Specifically he remembers his deep friendship with Jonathan and wants to express his loyal love to Jonathan in a tangible way towards members of Jonathans and Sauls families. David does not hold on to enmity with the descendants of Saul but rather demonstrates an attitude of forgiveness and kindness to them. In this action we have a linkage to the kindness of God (v3) and how we are also called to forgive our enemies and forsake our attitudes of bitterness, anger and holding on to old grudges. May we have the grace to emulate King David and his greater King Jesus Christ.

In the mercy of God the Shepherd King is not only established on the throne of Israel but his heirs are to be established as a dynasty forever. This Davidic Covenant becomes the genealogical foundation that culminates in Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God (Matthew 1:5-6). As a result the Davidic Covenant becomes the connection point for our own relationship with Jesus and our participation in the new Israel of God (Galatians 6:16).
