You're a yoga teacher because yoga has improved your life - possibly immeasurably - and you have a desire, a need, to share that with others.Whilst asana is a hugely important part of yoga, it's not the full story, and as such, as yoga teachers, sharing the full story; the roots and the history of yoga, is probably part of the job. But it's not necessarily a part of the job that comes easily, that's covered in yoga teacher trainings, that's even accessible...Well, this podcast episode aims to change that. It's full of practical tips to layer your asana classes with yoga philosophy, to weave in themes and wisdom without having to be fluent in Sanskrit, without having to be completely knowledgable about the entire history of yoga. Basically, we're aiming to take the reservations and fears out of sharing the fullness of what yoga is, whilst also deeply respecting yoga and all its roots.See the shownotes-- Training for yoga teachers: Trauma Informed Yoga: September 2022Traditional Hatha Yoga, Prānāyām and Meditation: October 2022Philosophy, Sanskrit and Chanting: October 2022Yin Yoga Training: November 2022As always, we would love to know what you think of the Yoga Hero: Teachers Podcast, do leave an honest review if you can, or drop us a message @yogahero_teachers Join our our Shatter Imposter Syndrome challenge, perfect for yoga teachers who are struggling with confidence, or self belief! -- Say hi on Instagram: @yogahero_teachersSee what trainings are coming up, at Yoga Hero and online: yogahero.co.uk/training

This episode is the answer to the question: Do I need a yoga brand? Does this sound familiar?: You start practising yoga initially for a reason; to de-desk, to rehabilitate an injury, to feel calmer. You were so blown away by how much yoga improves your life, you have a calling to share that with others. You enroll on a yoga teacher training, and it quite simply changes your life. Now you're even more motivated than ever to share yoga with others! So now you.... what? Contact studios to see if there's any openings. Look around your local area to rent somewhere to start your own classes. Start teaching online. People come to your classes, but not loads of people, and you would like to reach more people.... but HOW?! So you start to do some research; maybe with some yoga business blogs, or this podcast, or by talking to your fellow yoga teachers and they say, have you got a website? Have you done any advertising on instagram? Have you thought about flyering or starting an enewsletter or working with this person or that company, and then, you're stuck!! Bah!! This all sounds like running a business rather than sharing yoga. Plus, you just don't know where to start. If that sounds familiar, it's because it is familiar, because it happens a lot!!! Don't worry, we're here to help. Over the next few episodes, we're taking the guesswork out of where to place your valuable resources of time, energy and mental bandwidth and helping you to decide where to focus, who to work with and what to prioritise. Have you ever been to a yoga class, and the sequence was so great, that you left the class thinking, I would love to be known for my sequencing. Then, you listen to a podcast about yoga philosophy, and you think, I should really weave more philosophy in to my classes, that's definitely where I should be putting my focus. Then you're chatting to someone, and they tell you how they went to the most amazing yin class, and left feeling like they were walking on air, and you thought, I really want to be the best yin yoga teacher! There are so many yoga teachers around these days - and for the record we think that's a good thing, more yoga teachers is more people to share the joys and benefits of yoga! But it does mean, for want of a better word, more competition. The best, or maybe, the only way to differentiate yourself from the masses is to be yourself. To know who you are, who you want to teach. To have this defined, so it's crystal clear to you how to talk about your classes, workshops and courses. Who you aim your offerings at. What trainings to do, to deepen you knowledge, and what to leave to one side. This podcast episode is designed to help you define who you are as a yoga teacher. In this episode, we're getting organised, looking to January 2022 and how we can make the most of the January 'New Year, New You' chuff, without it being cheesy or slimy, or both. The reality is, that at the turn of a week, or a month, or a year, motivation is high - or at least higher than normal- so people are more inclined to try something new, to better themselves, to work on self improvement. Whether you subscribe to the 'New Year, New You' or not, it is likely to be a stimulus that brings people to yoga. It's currently mid (ish) December, and although this year especially seems to have flown by, December is quicker than ever! So, rather than arriving in January without a plan, let's take a bit of time now to ensure we're geared up for the New Year.We look at: Practical things - how can people reach you, and what do they need to know? Booking systems, for online and offline classes, and if you need oneHow you'll get your message out in a very crowded marketMaking sure that you have the right amount of work, and if not, when is the right time to find moreSelf-care. Many businesses would absolutely love a way to ensure that their customers were right there, in front of them, on a regular, predictable basis, and one of the many interesting things about being a yoga teacher is that we see our customers regularly. Now I know you don't think of your yoga students as customers (me neither) - they're people who come to your yoga classes. But, if you allow yourself to think of your yogis as customers just for this one episode, i think it will make the information clearer and more useful. After all, this podcast is about helping you earn a fair living, so in reality, you do need CUSTOMERS to bring in INCOME.In this episode, we'll look at why you would want and need to stay in touch with your yogis, the different communication methods you could use, what to say, and what to bear in mind with each. And we'll round up by looking at how you can evaluate which method or methods are right for you, and for you yogis, to make your efforts as efficient and useful as possible. --Useful links: Follow Yoga Hero Teachers on InstagramConvertkit: convertkit.com--New, free masterclass: How to create your yoga brandIn this free masterclass, you will learn:1. Before we look at how to manage your calendar as efficiently as possible, let's just take a step back. Usually, our journey is something like this. We get in to yoga because it really helps us to feel our best. We fall in love with it, so much so that we want to deepen our knowledge and possibly share the practice with others. We embark on a teacher training that is - hopefully - full full full of useful and relevant information about the practice of yoga, and teaching yoga. It's likely, and hopefully, inspiring and enlightening and you learn so much about yourself that you can't wait to share it with others. So when you graduate, you say yes to every opportunity like Jim Carrey in the film Yes Man, but you also keep your life as it was going; looking after others, possibly maintaining your existing full time job, or study, household tasks, social life etc etc. Just because you've graduated as a yoga teacher doesn't mean you get more hours in the day, and it doesn't mean you have a magic new pot of energy available to you.... so... we get burned out. Or pretty damn close to it. That's what this podcast is all about; avoiding that. Building up knowledge, skills and habits to ensure that you can pursue your dreams but not at the detriment of your health. This podcast episode breaks down how to ensure you're not taking on too much, but also how to also ensure you're making the very best of the opportunities that come your way. We'll look at not double booking, not running around like a headless chicken, not missing out on opportunities, practicalities to consider, ways you can have oversight of your current and upcoming work, and much more. --Useful links: Follow Yoga Hero Teachers on InstagramEpisode 3: Productivity for a Clear Mind--New, free masterclass: How to create your yoga brandIn this free masterclass, you will learn:1. Being a yoga teacher is a wonderful, incredible, life changing job. But it can also be bloody hard work. It's not all teaching yoga, there's so much else that comes with the role; managing energy levels, planning classes, promoting your offering, contacting and staying in touch with your students, designing posts for Instagram, managing finances, sending invoices, predicting cash flow, ongoing study, looking for opportunities for new classes, dreaming up workshops and courses… and so the list goes on. When all this is done as-hoc, either things get missed, like deadlines, or opportunities, or it all gets overwhelming and leads to burn out - which is exactly what this podcast has been created to avoid. In this episode, we look at how to make a business decision as to whether to hire an accountant or not, useful resources to stay on top of your invoices, and banking resources too. Renting a space for yoga - what to consider. In this episode, we'll look at everything you need to know, to think about, to consider, when renting a space to teach yoga. This advice stands when renting a space by the hour, or by the class, or renting a space exclusive, month in, month out. This is an accumulation of all the, ermmmm shall we say learnings that I've learnt over the past 8 years, over which time Yoga Hero has inhabited:A churchAn art galleryA 15th century buildingA disused industrial unitA skateparkA gymA nightclub A cafe A festival And others I'd start by saying that no space is completely perfect, so keep in mind what, and who, you'll be teaching which will help you prioritise - we'll come back to that after we've looked at what to hear in mind. The points we're considering are: LocationCostSize - usable sizeHeatingsToilets and changing roomsNoiseEquipmentBusiness rates and utilitiesLicensing for musicCleanlinessAccess Reception areaAccessibilitySocial media followingPotential customersWe have created a handy checklist for you, that covers these 15 points, which you can download, and consult each time you view a space - even if it's a meeting room for a workplace session right through to renting a space full time. In Podcast 3 we looked at Productivity for a Clear Mind, which covered the methodology created by David Allen in the book Getting Things Done. This podcast is a very practical podcast; covering how to conduct a regular review. David Allen calls it a weekly review, but I find that I rarely do it weekly; I'll sometimes do it more often or less often, just depending on what's going on. This podcast should be useful and follow-able even if you haven't listened to Podcast 3, however, if you do have the time and opportunity, listening to Podcast 3 should make this even more useful. Becoming more productive gives you two important things back which many of us are lacking these days: time and mental clarity. The approach covered in this episode is based on the methodology in the book Getting Things Done, by David Allen. I first stumbled across this book in 2018, which was the year that a) Yoga Hero had our first teacher training course, b) I was overseeing a £100,000 refurbishment at the studio and c) got married. So it was quite the busy year! Not only did I want to give my all to all of these things, there was obviously a lot of general business running to do too, and still only a set number of hours each week, and a finite amount of energy. I wanted to hire people to help but there simply wasn't the money in the business. So there was two options; work more hours (which wasn't really an option), or, be more productive with the time that I was working. Things always seem to work out don't they, and as it happened, this book pretty much fell in to my lap with a post it note on from the universe saying "Holly read me!".I did, and I haven't looked back, and now I'm beyond excited to share the approach with you. This approach is so incredibly useful and empowering. And don't worry about taking notes - we have a write up for you which explains the steps, and includes a link to the book should you want to know more - at yogahero.co.uk/podcast3--New, free masterclass: How to create your yoga brandIn this free masterclass, you will learn:1. There's a bit of a chicken and egg situation where confidence is concerned... in order to get really confident at something, we need to practice, practice, practice and get experience, yet lacking in confidence might well mean that we don't put ourselves forward to gain that experience needed. So it becomes a bit of a cycle; we lack confidence teaching, so don't put ourselves forward for teaching opportunities, which further propels the lack of confidence, which means we're even less likely to go out and get experience... This podcast is about breaking that cycle; how to put yourself out there, gain experience and increase confidence. We'll look at tricks to feel very confident when planning and communicating your yoga offering, and then when actually delivering it too! We'll look at conquering nerves, and silencing that niggly imposter voice, so you can shortcut to getting excited about sharing your yoga, without feeling held back. It's so important for you to be confident when delivering your yoga knowledge to your students, we hope so much that this podcast helps you find, and build, the confidence that you need and deserve. In this podcast, we look at:Building confidence as a yoga teacher through deepening our knowledge and understanding of yogaBuilding confidence through clear, understandable and useful session plansAnd gaining experience – even when we're not feeling overly confident in our ability – via some more creative methods than just paid classes, which can feel like a real added pressure sometimes.Sitting alongside this podcast, we have a super duper worksheet; five ways to build confidence as a yoga teacher.
