On their weekly Pitt basketball mailbag video, Post-Gazette insiders Christopher Carter and Stephen Thompson answer reader questions. Among them: Does the Panthers offense move the ball more effectively without Jaland Lowe in the lineup like Saturday vs. Miami? Why aren't Amsal Delalic and Brandin Cummings receiving more playing time from coach Jeff Capel? Did Pitt really gain anything from its win over a bottom-dwelling Miami team? And is there enough meat left on the bone for the Panthers to claw their way back into the NCAA tournament conversation? Our duo answers those questions and more.

We can dream right? Actually, we can parent in a way around screens and tech in a way that builds connections, awareness, and self-regulation in our kiddos around tech and Ash Brandin is here to help us learn how to do it. Ash Brandin has been a teacher for the past 13 years and has blended their love and knowledge of children and tech on their instagram account @thegameeducator, where they provide the soothing much-needed messaging on how we can navigate screens, behavior and *our own needs* as parents. There are ten million questions we have about the tech, and while this conversation only answers some of them (like parental controls, dopamine hits, fast screen changes, risk factors for tech addiction), what it really provides is a much-needed guiding principle on how to shift our view of the tech (that ain't going anywhere y'all) and to focus on how we can support our children in learning how to navigate it while also balancing our own needs as parents in this village-less world. This, is what we must, do now. I hope this conversation provides some empowerment and a bit of an exhale around this tricky tricky topic! You can access Ash's work and helpful goodness here: https://thegamereducator.com/ And here is the link to guide to make your child safer on Youtube: https://thegamereducator.com/2023/03/26/how-to-keep-kids-safer-on-youtube/
Welcome back to Voices of Your Village! We heard you loud and clear after our last digital media podcast interview that you wanted more. So we are diving in with Ash Brandin, you might know them as the Gamer Educator over on Instagram. And today we get to chat about how to use screen time as a tool for regulation. I am stoked to share this and also know that for a lot of us, there's a lot of messaging around screen time as something that's only dysregulating for folks. We get to look at what's happening hormonally, and how do we use screen time with intention? All right, folks, let's dive in. Steiny & Guru break down why Podziemski has supplanted Klay Thompson in the starting lineup and why it's best for the Warriors, Podz, and even Klay!
Right before the All-Star break James and Patrick wanted to check in on this year's crop of rookies and pick out some favorites. Wemby is an obvious topic of conversation, but some unsung hopefuls like the Wizards' Bilal Coulibaly, The Warriors' Brandin Podziemski, and the Hornets' Brandon Miller also deserve a shoutout too. While we haven't seen too much from the Pistons' Ausar Thompson, the Rockets' Amen Thompson, or the Trailblazers' Scoot Henderson, we're hopeful that they'll get things going in the near future. Stick around for Hot Streak/Shooting Slump!
Let's normalize screen time use in whatever way works for your family. I know as parents we are CONSTANTLY bombarded by a list of shoulds and shouldn'ts and really big, click-baity headlines that really create a lot of fear and guilt among parents. You see this for almost every childhood concern, but I see it a lot around screens. And in 2024, we're definitely not decreasing our kids' exposure to screens so let's lean into it a bit and really find out- do we really need to stress about limiting screen time? Are there differences between the screentime use our kids are having, and what does this say about neurodivergent kids? Ash Brandin, EdS (they/them) has been a public school educator for over a decade. In that time they found innovative ways of using student interests- including video games- to increase engagement and make learning more fun and effective. Since February 2021, their Instagram page- TheGamerEducator- has helped tens of thousands of families make screen time beneficial for the whole family. Ash believes screens should be part of our lives, not the center of our lives, and helps caregivers navigate the world of tech using consistent, loving boundaries. In their free time, Ash loves to hike, bake, play video games, and spend time with their family. EP #9: On the latest Off the Edge with Cam Jordan podcast, Cam's former teammate and current Dallas Cowboys receiver Brandin Cooks taps in. Brandin does his best Bill Belichick impression when the coach traded him to the Rams. Brandin also shares the silver lining in being trades a NFL record-tying four times. He explains shares why he feels Dak Prescott has the same winning traits as Tom Brady. And, Brandin opens up about why he still hasn't gotten over "the play" in the Rams loss in Super Bowl 53. And, he shares why he got his pilot's license, and how flying teammates to a game isn't something he'll do anymore while playing for Jerry Jones. Plus, Cam does a "mid-season temperature check" on the Super bowl contenders from both the NFC and AFC. The Off the Edge podcast is a production of the NFL in partnership with iHeart Radio.
