The Rebellion may have heroes like Jyn Erso and Luke Skywalker. But the Empire has Inferno Squad. After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera's Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire - no matter what the cost. Now, Inferno Squad must prove their status as the best of the best and take down the Partisans from within. But as the danger intensifies and the threat of discovery grows, how far will Inferno Squad go to ensure the safety of the Empire?

On the eve of Battlefront II’s release, Mitch Dyer reveals his surprising journey from a critic covering the previous Battlefront to the writer of the next game in the series. How closely did the team work with Battlefront II: Inferno Squad novelist Christie Golden with the difficult process of having a relatable lead character who is siding with The Empire. We chat about the pressure of writing one of the first post Return Of The Jedi canon stories of Luke Skywalker and hear never before heard insight into what Lucasfilm’s one big question was before he got the go ahead to tell it. Plus how Janina Gavankar's poorly coded messaged kickstarted her way to the role and I pitch some amazing Ewok based video game concepts that could change the industry. This week I review three books I read recently: two new, one not so much. I give non-spoiler and then spoiler reviews of 2014's Rebels prequel A New Dawn, and 2017's breakouts Battlefront II: Inferno Squad and Leia: Princess of Alderaan. I also address the news that JJ Abrams will be coming back to direct Episode IX, and (briefly) touch on my trek through the MCU. Thanks for listening! Follow me on Instagram and Twitter.

The Star Wars hype machine is up and running at light speed as The Last Jedi approaches, so the Blaster Canon crew has a lot to talk about in the August episode. Entertainment Weekly’s articles reveal new in-depth conversations with Mark Hamill and other The Last Jedi stars about Luke, Rey, and the Force, while Donald Glover steps into big shoes as Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo standalone. What does it mean to bring “balance” to the Force, and why has Luke traveled to a distant island in order to do it?We also touch on Marvel’s Star Wars comics and the novel Phasma before reaching our main topic, the Battlefront II tie-in novel Inferno Squad. How well does the book characterize the Imperial agents we’ll be playing in the game later this year? The book follows Iden Versio and her squad into an undercover mission against the Partisans, and we generally liked its portrayal of a less black-and-white Star Wars universe.Let us know how your Force Friday went at @blastercanonpod on Twitter.Timecodes: Obi-Wan standalone rumors - 1:00 Rey's lineage in The Last Jedi - 10:44 Luke in The Last Jedi - 16:00 Phasma novel blurb - 26:23 Donald Glover interview in THR - 32:19 Inferno Squad - 41:30 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Look out! We are reviewing a proper Star Wars novel! That means we have tons to say about another great addition to the canon! We discuss the new set of characters tasked by the Empire to form Inferno Squad and take down the remnants of Saw Gerrera's partisans, the expert way Golden bridges connections to Rogue One and Battlefront II, as well as how this book stands on its own apart from a tie-in to a video game as a great spy novel. Hopefully, you enjoyed this book as much as we did!
Battlefront II: Inferno Squad. In the aftermath of Scarif and the destruction of the indestructible Death Star, the Empire finds itself vulnerable for the first time in twenty years. Its time to get serious about the treat of the Rebellion and destroy what is left of Saw Gerrera’s Partisans. For this task, the Empire forms a new group who will work on the outside, an elite team who will suss out the Imperial traitors, infiltrate Rebel and Partisan groups to find out where the leaks are coming from and bring them to justice. In this supplemental episode of The 602 Club host Matthew Rushing is joined by Bruce Gibson and Michael Morris to talk about Christie Golden's latest Star Wars book, Inferno Squad. The latest Star Wars animated show, Forces of Destiny, has aired, so it’s time for the Blaster Canon crew to talk about our impressions of the show and some of the discussions it has kicked off in the fandom. Who is the show “for”? The hosts exhibit some character development of our own, too. Other recent Star Wars news includes behind-the-scenes footage from The Last Jedi, some more details about Star Wars land (uh, we mean Galaxy’s Edge) and the accompanying fully immersive hotel, and newly announced book releases. Author Jason Fry will return to the Star Wars universe for the The Last Jedi novelization. The tie-in novel Battlefront II: Inferno Squad is out now, and Den of Geek has a review. It's no secret we are unabashed fans of Darth Maul. We can't get enough of Dathomir's native son and Sith apprentice. This week, we're reviewing the 5-issue series written by Cullen Bund and with art by Luke Ross. We discuss some tie-ins with other recent Maul material, as well as its connection to the theme of regeneration through violence, and just say "Cad Bane is awesome" a lot. Plus, we manage to contain our excitement about Battlefront II: Inferno Squad because SOMEONE hasn't read it, yet *cough* Blaine.

It's hard to talk about Star Wars Battlefront II: Inferno Squad without talking about its predecessor, Battlefront: Twilight Company. But Inferno Squad is by no means a sequel, and has its own merits - which, to be honest, make the novel even more rewarding than the first Battlefront novel. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! Whereas both Battlefront: Twilight Company and Battlefront II: Inferno Squad have compelling characters, the fact that the upcoming Battlefront II video game has a campaign mode which involves the characters from the novel makes that novel all the more satisfying. And as much as I enjoyed Twilight Company, Inferno Squad definitely raises the storytelling game. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported!
