This is pretty interesting to know about Dooku, and also what initiates got before they began their Padawan training.

Calvin is a big Star Wars fan and grew up in the prequel generation. Since Byers and Troy fall in between the two generations, they thought it would be a great perspective to have represented in the discussion. We briefly discuss the dating scene on Tatooine and Jedi Tae Kwon Do. Calvin brings up a great question, why doesn't Natalie Portman share in some of the ire from the hardcore Star Wars fans for her performances in the prequels? Notes: Calvin mentions Matt Lanter, who voices Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. He also mentions a Count Dooku book which is Dooku: Jedi Lost by Cavan Scott. This week Mike is doing another spoiler-free book review from the High Republic era, now venturing into the second wave, starting with The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott – the “main adult” novel with a huge amount of characters, major plot points and shocking moments! In more detail, for the first half of the episode, Mike gives a bit of information on the other releases for The High Republic (the first two waves within Phase 1), gives some background/plot information on the book and then delves into his spoiler-free review; providing information from the blurb, the themes, how it continues from Light Of The Jedi, what he enjoyed about it, which characters have returned and details found within the first few pages. From around the halfway mark, Mike reads out the blurb & crawl before providing more details on the characters and their general journeys/thoughts, the state of the Republic at the start of this book, the wider themes and how they impact story elements, as well as how it fits in with other High Republic material, which all falls into light-spoiler territory. He then talks about “connected content”, primarily the tie-in High Republic comics and gives a mini-review of the Tempest Runner audio drama before giving plenty of warning and delving into his more detailed review, which still doesn't fully spoil the book but it does mention some plot details right at the very end, so you can listen to as little or as much info about The Rising Storm before picking it up yourself. The Rising Storm was released June 29th 2021 by Cavan Scott. He has also written the Dooku Jedi Lost audio drama, The Tempest Runner audio drama (set just after this book), as well as one story from each A Certain Point Of View book, all of Marvel's standard The High Republic comics plus several titles under Star Wars Adventures for IDW publishing including the Monster Of Temple Peak mini-series, all 3 sets of Vader's Castle stories and Adventures In Wild Space. The Rising Storm is the adult novel of the second wave of the High Republic's first phase along with Out Of The Shadows and Race To Crashpoint Tower, while Wave 3 (due early 2022) will include Claudia Gray's “adult” novel The Fallen Star plus junior-novel Mission To Disaster and young-adult novel Midnight Horizon. From the first wave of phase 1 is Light Of The Jedi, A Test Of Courage & Into The Dark, which Mike has reviewed on this show in 2021; LotJ was March, AToC was August and ItD was October. Mike also spoke with fellow THR author Claudia Gray on December 12th 2020 on this very channel/feed, so make sure you check that out if you haven't already, plus Mike spoke with Star Wars comic artist Paolo Villanelli on the feed of his other show Genuine Chit-Chat (video version also on YouTube). It's a pair of pivotal issues from Marvel while IDW's Luke Skywalker-centric The Weapon of a Jedi concludes with a satisfying ending. In Star Wars Adventures #5, which we reviewed in episode #240, a new pair of creative teams proffers entertaining stories about Anakin and Padme and what passes for mentorship in th Empire, at least if you're Wilhuff Tarkin. The High Republic #6 launches a new arc and sees the arrival of artist Georges Jeanty and inker Karl Story. It's a pivotal issue, setting the stage for the arc to come and, we dare say, some intriguing tie-ins to events that writer Cavan Scott revealed in his audiodrama "Dooku: Jedi Lost." Doctor Aphra #11 brings the return of the bounty hunter Durge, but is it the last time we'll see him? Hard to tell with a being that's hard to kill. The issue meshes nicely with the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event, yet also sets the stage for events to come within the Aphra series itself.Upcoming Star Wars comics include:July 7Bounty Hunters #14Star Wars Adventures #6Star Wars Legends: The Old Republic Omnibus Vol. 1July 14Doctor Aphra #12War of the Bounty Hunters #2 (of 5)The Phantom Menace Graphic Novel Adaptation (IDW)July 21The High Republic Adventures #6Star Wars Adventures #7Darth Vader #14War of the Bounty Hunters — Jabba the Hutt #1 (One-Shot)July 28Star Wars #15Star Wars Adventures #7The High Republic #7Aug. 4Star Wars Adventures #8Bounty Hunters #15War of the Bounty Hunters: 4-LOM & Zuckuss #1 (One-Shot)Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Marvel Years, Vol. 5 TPBAug. 11The High Republic #8War of the Bounty Hunters #3 (of 5)The Monster of Temple Peak #1 (of 4)The High Republic, Vol. 1, “There Is No Fear” TPBDoctor Aphra (Vol. 2), Vol. 2, “The Engine Job” TPBAug. 14 (Free Comic Book Day)Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Free Comic Book Day IssueThe High Republic: The Edge of Balance/Guardians of the Whills FCBD IssueAug. 18Star Wars Adventures #9Star Wars #16The High Republic Adventures #7Aug. 25Darth Vader #15Doctor Aphra #13Sept. 1Star Wars Adventures #10The High Republic Adventures #8Doctor Aphra #14The High Republic #9Sept. 8The High Republic: Edge of Balance (Manga)The Monster of Temple Peak #2 (of 4)War of the Bounty Hunters #4 (of 5)Sept. 15Darth Vader #16War of the Bounty Hunters — Boushh #1Star Wars Adventures: Smuggler's Run TPBSept. 22Ghosts of Vader's Castle #1 (of 5)Bounty Hunters #16Sept. 29Star Wars #17Ghosts of Vader's Castle #2 (of 5)Star Wars Adventures (Vol. 2), “The Light & the Dark” TPBOct. 20Darth Vader (Vol. 2) OmnibusOct. 26Darth Vader (Vol. 3), Vol. 3 TPB (Collects #12-16)Oct. 27Star Wars Episodes IV-IX Adaptation Box Set (IDW)Nov. 3Star Wars Legends: Rise of the Sith OmnibusNov. 9War of the Bounty Hunters TPB (Collects Alpha #1, War of the Bounty Hunters 1-5)War of the Bounty Hunters Companion TPB (Collects Jabba, IG-88, Boushh, 4-LOM & Zuckuss)Nov. 10Star Wars Legends Boba Fett: Blood Ties TPBThe High Republic Adventures, Vol. 1, TPBNov. 16Star Wars (Vol. 3), Vol. 3 TPB (Collects #13-18)Nov. 23Bounty Hunters, Vol. 3, TPB (Collectings #12-17)Nov. 30Star Wars: The High Republic, Vol. 2, TPB (Collects #6-10)Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2), Vol. 3, TPB (Collects #11-15)Dec. 7Attack of the Clones Graphic Novel Adaptation from IDW

I thought the short stories of Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark were good, but via audio, they're even better - and for a unique reason. Most audiobooks are performed by a narrator who does all the voices. Sometimes you get a full cast performance, like with the Dooku: Jedi Lost or Doctor Aphra audio dramas. The nearest thing, perhaps, to what we get in this collection is what happened for From a Certain Point of View, the collection of stories for the 40th anniversary of A New Hope. But most of those stories were also read by narrators with whom you're familiar from other Star Wars audiobooks. For this collection of Clone Wars stories, however, you're treated to performances by the actors who voiced characters in the Clone Wars series itself. We'll talk about how that all matches up, and about the one original story in the collection, on today's show... Punch it! (Thanks to Penguin Random House Audio for sharing a review copy with me, too.) ***I'm listener supported!
