"The Convert" is Mando's most interesting episode to date, opting to follow Dr. Pershing's time on Coruscant and give us our first true glimpse of the New Republic and how it operates. While the episode might understandably drag for some, I enjoyed the heavy nods to books like Alphabet Squadron, Bloodlines, and Lost Stars, as well as revealing the dark facade of the New Republic. Oh, and this episode starts with one of the best live-action dogfights weve gotten in Star Wars. Hear all these thoughts and more, enjoy!Follow on Instagram: @star_wars_markofbalance

Then they look back on the first wave of The High Republic books and preview wave two (coming later this month), including a special spoiler free review of The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott from Starrapter. They also share their thoughts on the now complete Alphabet Squadron trilogy, including how this series could be a model for future novels. Plus, new Lego Star Wars sets have been revealed, the nihil as villains in the High Republic, and the future of characters from Solo: A Star Wars Story. All this and much more!

*COMING SOON* The Star Wars Canon Library Mobile App News - "Alphabet Squadron: Victory's Price" announced Canon Spotlight - "Queen's Shadow" By E.K. Johnston Mailbag Questions 1.) Toheed Chaudhry - Hey Brian! Big fan of the Podcast, keep up the great work! I recently rewatched the Umbara arc and really loved the end of that last episode, with Fives and Rex contemplating what they'll do after the war is over. It got me thinking---would you be interested in a novel pre-Attack of the Clones with a focus on the Clones as they're growing up? They're soldiers bred for a war that, to them, doesn't exist yet. What does that do to their mind---knowing they only exist to fight a manufactured and seemingly meaningless war? 2.) Grady Warren - Brian! So glad to have you back on the mic after your break. I'm so excited for your mobile app and look forward to downloading it and purchasing the timeline. You do so much work for next to nothing and you deserve to have this app be as successful as possible. Well done. My question is have you seen the reordering of the star wars titles? Would love to hear your thoughts. May the force be with you! 3.) Katie Hunt - Hey brian id love to hear your thoughts on what happened with jj's vision for the sequel trilogy. Gregorio dorkd out hard on this and gave us not one but TWO eu novels (one graphic!) in the Star Wars universe, Alphabet Squadron and Tie Fighter. He also picked Rush's seminal 2112 and a delightful beer named Light Speed from Toppling Goliath brewery. The dudes talk genre fiction, elitism, joy, and what the fuck it means to still care about things and do the thing in a pandemic. Hell yeah! Ode. To. Joy
On this episode, Dominic and Ben delve into the latest updates about The Mandalorian. They discuss the potential score for the series and how the Imperial remnant might be portrayed in the series. Then, they discuss the current state of Star Wars publishing, and whether anything that's published today is "essential" reading. Then they review the Star Wars books/audio dramas Dooku: Jedi Lost, Master and Apprentice, Queen's Shadow, and Alphabet Squadron. Plus, how Dooku represents the fall of the Jedi and the republic, how Star Wars can remain accessible to kids while still becoming more "adult", and more Percy the Puffer Pig! All this and much more! Help support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/starwarscanonpodcast News - Mandalorian footage possibly coming to Celebration - Cover for Alexander Freed's "Alphabet Squadron" has been released - Marvel's "Star Wars: TIE Fighter" comic series has been announced - Adam Driver revealed that he was told where Episode 9 would end up at the end of the sequel trilogy Upcoming Canon - January 20th S1:E13 "Dangerous Business" - January 23rd Marvel's "Star Wars" #60 Mailbag Questions 1.) Kyler Knowles - Hey Brian, I love the channel keep up the great work. I was wondering what you would think if the main star wars comic went past empire strikes back and Luke was reading obi wan's journal about the old republic and have like a 25 issue run set during old republic era. With characters like revan and potentially bane. Thoughts? 2.) Fred Lambert - what's the deal with Disney claiming SWT's Vader fan film? personally i think its a dick move for disney and just goes to show they're in it for the money. what are your thoughts? 3.) Pete Goodman - hey brian, love the podcast! love listening to ya after listening to jedi council every week. keep it up. my question is when do you think we'll start seeing infor on rian johnson's trilogy and the series of films from the got showrunners? i'm ready for some big news from the film-side of things and can't wait to see what the films set in the old republic are going to look like! thank you and may the force be with you! 4.) Alex Waters - As of now is there any reason that SotE couldn't be brought back into canon as is? That's the only gap between films where there is absolutely nothing to watch or read? SotE was what got me into the old EU and its a great read. love the show brian. keep up the good work, and congrats on making top 25 sw podcasts! 5.) Shane Duncan - Cheers! Thanks for answering my question last week. My question this week concerns Marvel and Lucasfilm. I remember when Disney bought Lucasfilm and everyone was saying that Disney was going to turn SW around the way they did Marvel. Personally I don't believe they have turned it around as well as they have Marvel, but I can tell they're getting there. Why do you think this is? How can the same company make great Marvel films but bland SW movies? Thanks for what you do my man! We've got a lot to cover this week! "The Mandalorian," NYCC announcements, and we're taking YOUR mailbag and LIVE questions! News -Jon Favreau's series officially titled "The Mandalorian," set photos, directors -Kathleen Kennedy's contract with Lucasfilm has been extended through 2021 -NYCC 2018 releases future slate, including "Alphabet Squadron" by Alexander Freed -Review for "Solo: A Star Wars Story" Novelization Upcoming Canon Material This Week: -IDW's "Star Wars Adventures" #15 -IDW's "Star Wars Adventures: Tales From Vader's Castle" #2 Mailbag Questions 1.) Jamie Holbeche - Would you like to see 16 or 18 rated Star Wars shows or movies where it could possibly get quite violent and dark? Like in Aftermath: Empire's End when Mister Bones completely cuts the limbs of Norra's captors clean off. I think Benioff and Weiss could potentially make a 16 or 18 rated saga of movies on The Old Republic. Just wondered since there are shows made for kids such as Resistance and Forces of Destiny but there aren't necessarily things that are just adult. But adults could still watch kids shows but kids can't watch adult shows. I don't know, curious what you think :) 2.) Ron Hempburg - Do you think we'll see Obi-Wan Kenobi in episode 9, or maybe Luke's Force ghost? I know Mark Hamill has been signed on to return, so do you think it will be a flashback scene or ghost? Love to hear your opinion. 3.) Danny Boroff - Hey brian love the podcast! Since the Solo novel just came out what is the next novel slated for release? The novels are my favorite form of the new canon. The comics are fun but I don't feel like anything real major happens in them. Cant wait for Ep. IX! 4.) Trevor Larson - First off I am someone who respects that different people have different opinions and different people like different things. Im cool with that. That being said I know you guys like the new canon coming out from disney. I believe its far from perfect. Personally, I love the EU front to back. I dont understand why disney thought it was a a good idea to make another superweapon. It might as well have been a new death star. and then in tlj they have a battering ram based off of the death star. Do you think JJ Abrams will put another Starkiller base in 9? Or do you think the days of superweapons in SW are over? Love to hear your thoughts. Just know that whether I agree with you or not you've picked up a new follower. May the force be with you.
