Even where nobody talks about it, porn is everywhere--so much so that many, even those who think it's immoral, have concluded that it's an inextricable part of 21st century digital culture. But what if that attitude is leading us to levels of brokenness we never even imagined? In this episode, Christine Emba joins Russell to talk about what she calls a “quiet catastrophe”: the normalization of pornography in an era marked by loneliness and disconnection. Drawing from her widely read New York Times essay, “The Delusion of Porn's Harmlessness,” Emba offers a pointed and profound look at what pornography is doing not just to our minds, but to our relationships, our desires, and our sense of self. Emba and Moore explore why the idea of intimacy feels threatening, and how a generation raised on digital pleasure might struggle to imagine and practice real relational connection. They also talk about how porn shapes our expectations of each other, why Christians often mishandle this issue, and what it might look like to recover a deeper, more beautiful ethic of intimate relationships. Emba even shares ways she sees society combatting our perceived defeat and possible despair when it comes to AI's influence on porn–and the good news is, she has a positive outlook. This is not a frantic conversation about culture war panic. It's a thoughtful and sobering conversation about what kind of restoration is possible when desire is distorted, but not beyond healing. This week, as expected, Denise Richards and Aaron Phypers divorce took more twists and turns than an episode of RHOBH. Aaron released Denise's alleged sexts with Special Forces co-star Rudy Reyes, Denise's attorney fired back claiming he violated the restraining order and oh, so much more. Rumors, not nastiness, arise that Carole Radziwill is headed to RHONY Season 16 and we are here to explain why this may just very well be the case. Teresa is acting delusional again about herself and her RHONJ future. Finally, The Valley Reunion Part I has left everyone asking just how fast can Jax actually leave the building and who else from the current cast is about to go. @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Learn more about your ad choices. Livi updates you on her dating life.
Denise Richards' divorce has so many twists and turns there seems to be new info every hour on the hour. By now everyone has heard Denise's claims of abuse by Aaron. Aaron strongly denies those claims and a serious case of two very different conflicting stories is in full effect as we approach their initial hearing date, August 8th, in which a judge will determine if her temporary restraining order should be made permanent. Erika Jayne and Teddi tried to warn us all and many resurfaced RHOBH clips, plus Denise's reaction to the Brandi Glanville situation, are now revisited causing fans to look at everything and anything with hindsight which, they say, is 20/20. This RHOC take down season of Katie does not seem to be going quite as Tamra, Emily and Gina had planned. The RHONJ long pause which is just getting started means so much more to the future of other franchises than meets the eye. Teresa makes new moves Down Under in acts of desperation, Dolores declares her PTSD and many cast members become delusional in a total lack of reality about what their future on RHONJ really looks like. When Swedish twins Ursula and Sabina Eriksson suddenly began throwing themselves into speeding traffic on a UK motorway—captured on camera by a reality TV crew—it was only the beginning of a shared psychotic break that would lead to superhuman strength, psychiatric hospitalization, and ultimately murder.==========HOUR ONE: In 1761, a young Frenchman died violently. This tragedy would lead to what is still one of that country's most famous cases of judicial injustice. Assuming, of course, that it truly was an injustice at all. (The Mysterious Death of Marc Antoine Calas) *** Most know them as “The Hidden Folk.” The elusive and magical residents of Iceland, who live inside rocks and sometimes play games with unsuspecting passers-by. Are they real? That's a complicated question, if you ask Icelanders. (The Elves of Iceland) *** As two boys were walking back to the house on their farm, a small stone rolled past them. Then a second one. They immediately thought some other boys were hiding in the scrub and throwing stones for a joke. They couldn't have been more wrong. (Stone Throwing Spirits) *** Belle Gunness lured numerous suitors to her Indiana farm. Not to entertain them or to be courted by them. She simply wanted to kill them in cold blood and dump their bodies in her hog pen. (Belle Gunness – The Black Widow of the Midwest) *** "They're going to steal your organs!" screamed Sabina Eriksson, before running toward oncoming traffic on the M6 highway, having already been hit head-on by a Volkswagen. Her twin sister, Ursula, legs crushed by the truck that had just run her over, was spitting and screaming at paramedics on the side of the road. Now, many years after these events, we're still no closer to understanding the chaos that occurred over two days in 2008 involving psychotic twin sisters on a UK highway. (The Disturbing Case of the Eriksson Twins)==========HOUR TWO: In 1882 the Ma'amtrasna murders, the brutal killing of several members of the Joyce family in rural Galway, caused outrage in Irish society and remains one of the most notorious homicides in Irish history. However a few years later Cork was rocked by an equally heinous case which has largely been forgotten. We'll look at the brutal murders of four family members that took place in Castletownroche, Ireland. (The Castletownroche Murders) *** An Arizona family encounters a creature from the dark side of a Navajo legend. (The Arizona Skinwalker) *** John Blair liked to keep things “in the family”. But in his case, it wasn't just a saying. It was literal. Because John was infamous for being bigamous. (Bigamous Blair) *** Dozens of Korean War GI's claimed an unidentified flying object made them all sick. Theories range from high-tech Soviet death rays to extraterrestrials studying how we engage in battle to combat-stress-induced hallucinations. What actually happened? What if no one told you the war was over for 29 years? This week, Lizzy and Kevin explore the unbelievable story of Hiroo Onoda, the Japanese soldier who kept fighting World War II well into the 1970s. Living in the jungle, dodging imaginary enemies, and refusing to surrender—because no one officially told him to.Is it loyalty? Delusion? He just missed the memo? Either way, this is one of the most bizarre and committed close calls in history.
Join Jim and Greg for Monday's 3 Martini Lunch as they dissect the liberal media's persistent fantasy of a blue Texas, the horrifying massacres of Christians and Druze in Syria, and the left's conspiracy-laced outrage over CBS canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.First, Jim calls out Politico for spotlighting Texas State Rep. James Talarico as the latest Democratic hope to flip Texas for the Democrats. Talarico, who recently appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast, is seen as someone who could connect with Christian conservatives. But Talarico isn't even running statewide, and Jim says there's no real evidence Democrats are on the brink of flipping the Lone Star State.Next, they react with horror to reports that more than 700 people have been brutally murdered in Syria in recent days, including Christians and Druze targeted by Sunni Islamist militants. Jim explains what's happening in Syria, the impact of the U.S. lifting sanctions not long ago, and whether the new leader in Syria (who was formerly with ISIS) is incapable or unwilling to stop the bloodshed. Then, they get a kick out of the left's meltdown over CBS cancelling The Late Show. From Sen. Chris Murphy to former NPR CEO Vivian Schiller, the lefties are convinced President Trump made axing Colbert a condition for approving Paramount's pending merger and we are entering a "bone-chilling" era of censorship. These activists seem uninterested in the fact Colbert's show was losing CBS $40 million per year. Finally, Jim and Greg pay tribute to Ed Feulner, the founder and longtime president of the Heritage Foundation, who died on Friday, after decades of work in the conservative movement. Please visit our great sponsors:Upgrade your skincare routine with Caldera Lab and see the difference. Google does not want you to click on a link and go to a website. Instead, they're giving users as the first thing you see, an AI overview that analyzes hundreds, thousands, (possibly) millions of websites to give you an answer right there on the Google page. Convenient? Yes. User friendly? Yup. Causing news publishers to lose their minds? Absofrigginlutely.Today our guest is Ben Smith. He literally wrote the book on web traffic. In this episode, Jason discusses the ever-evolving landscape of photography gear, particularly focusing on Sony's latest camera release, the RX1R Mark III. He expresses his concern that this new model, priced at over $5,000, is out of touch with the average photographer's needs and represents a waste of money for most, highlighting a trend of camera companies releasing niche products or minor updates rather than innovations with broad appeal.Jason argues that the rise of smartphones has significantly impacted the camera market, leading companies to resort to what he perceives as gimmicks. He champions the idea that skill and artistic vision are far more important than owning the latest, most expensive equipment, advocating for photographers to invest in education and portfolio building over unnecessary gear upgrades to ensure financial success.

Eric and Eliot welcome Rebecca Friedman Lissner and Mira Rapp-Hooper to Shield of the Republic to discuss their recent article in the July/August issue of Foreign Affairs, "Absent at the Creation?: American Strategy and the Delusion of a Post-Trump Restoration." They discuss the speed with which Trump has imposed policy changes, the likelihood that old international order will be irreparably broken by the end of this term, the limits of American resilience, and the emergence of a multipolar world order. They also discuss challenges to American pre-eminence of emerging technologies and "compounding geopolitical risks" that Trump's cuts to research, assault on universities, and limits on tech transfer to China will do to U.S. innovation and international competitiveness.
