GotW is back, this time with their discussion of the second book in the Aftermath trilogy, “Life Debt.” Then it’s time for part two of their Star Wars RPG actual play adventure set on the planet of Ventooine and inspired by the interludes of Aftermath. It’s a jam-packed episode!
The Aftermath trilogy takes us from the fall of the Galactic Empire to the rise of the terrible New Republic. In book one (Aftermath) we meet a ton of new characters while revisiting a few old friends. And, of course, the controversial Mr. Bones. Make of him what you will. Regardless, most of the first book is set up for book two (Life Debt). Political intrigue and plotting isn't necessarily best presented in Chuck Wendig's very immediate first person style. At least there's some balance with the exciting liberation of Kashyyyk. Sadly, the New Republic doesn't approve, but since they're terrible it's to be expected. The Skywalker saga may be over, but there are enough books to keep Star Wars fans satisfied for years to come. Chad, Ryan, and Beth have started a series to keep you up to date on all the action. New York Times best seller Set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the never-before-told story that began with Star Wars: Aftermath continues in this thrilling novel, the second book of Chuck Wendig’s best-selling trilogy. It is a dark time for the Empire. The Emperor is dead, and the remnants of his former Empire are in retreat. As the New Republic fights to restore a lasting peace to the galaxy, some dare to imagine new beginnings and new destinies. For Han Solo, that means settling his last outstanding debt, by helping Chewbacca liberate the Wookiee’s homeworld of Kashyyyk. Meanwhile, Norra Wexley and her band of Imperial hunters pursue Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and the Empire’s remaining leadership across the galaxy. Even as more and more officers are brought to justice, Sloane continues to elude the New Republic, and Norra fears Sloane may be searching for a means to save the crumbling Empire from oblivion. But the hunt for Sloane is cut short when Norra receives an urgent request from Princess Leia Organa. The attempt to liberate Kashyyyk has carried Han Solo, Chewbacca, and a band of smugglers into an ambush—resulting in Chewie’s capture and Han’s disappearance. Breaking away from their official mission and racing toward the Millennium Falcon’s last known location, Norra and her crew prepare for any challenge that stands between them and their missing comrades. But they can’t anticipate the true depth of the danger that awaits them—or the ruthlessness of the enemy drawing them into his crosshairs. Praise for Aftermath: Life Debt “Star Wars: Aftermath: Life Debt has found its place at the top of all the new canon works. Simply, outstandingly great Star Wars.” (Star Wars Post) “[Chuck] Wendig once again strikes gold, offering a sweeping narrative with plenty of insight into both the state of the galaxy at large and beloved characters both new and old.” (Alternative Nation) “With an intense plot, political intrigue and great characterization, Wendig’s Aftermath: Life Debt is an excellent read.” (Flickering Myth Praise for Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath) “Star Wars: Aftermath [reveals] what happened after the events of 1983’s Return of the Jedi. It turns out, there’s more than just the Empire for the good guys to worry about.” (The Hollywood Reporter) “The Force is strong with Star Wars: Aftermath.” (Alternative Nation) “The Star Wars universe is fresh and new again, and just as rich and mysterious as it always was.” (Den of Geek)

I've been reading Aftermath: Life Debt by Chuck Wendig as nighttime reading for Scorekeeper Declan, and a passage just appeared that may speak volumes about something we're bound to see in Solo: A Str Wars Story. As of this recording, we don't yet know if this scene was filmed for The Last Jedi and not included, or if it was something written and never filmed, or even perhaps invented solely for the novel. That said, here's what you need to know about Han Solo's funeral - including two stories that date back to the original Star Wars and to Return of the Jedi, and two bits that seem to tie into Aftermath: Life Debt and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

NEWS [7:15] A three-minute Rogue One trailer is coming out this Friday … probably. Celebration is quickly approaching. The wave of news is going to crash this weekend and it’s going to be hard to stay upright. But we’ll do our best. Are we going to get a name for Episode VIII? Anna thinks so. Our friend BB-K8 is live-blogging her experience overseas. At the time of recording, she hadn’t made it to Skellig Michael yet. But the next day, she made it there! So happy for her. What starfighter is the most dressed up? STUMP THE LUMP! [33:10] This week, the kids show me a trading card and have me guess the name of the person on that card. Episode 32 has us talking all about The Force Awakens yet again! Liam has a new favorite character! Anna says Finn reminds her of a character from Avatar. Poe is the opposite of a jerky mc-jerk-dude. Also ... Winnie the Pooh? Listen, and together we will rule 100 Acre Wood Base as father and son and daughter and listener... And as always, check out our website for the show guide for this episode. Here: http://childrenoftheforce.com/2016/03/31/episode-32-unprovable-opinions/ STAR WARSY STUFF [0:30] Our family went to The Force Awakens in the theater for one last (?) time. It’sfinally at our second-run theater, the historic Riverview. Upon viewing The Force Awakens again, the kids rethought some stuff, includingthe character of Poe (“He sacrifices himself for a droid!”) And I have someadditional thoughts about Finn. Speaking of thinking more deeplyabout the characters of The Force Awakens, we start our on-air read through of "Resistance, Caring,& 'Mask'ulinity: The Feminist Message of the Dudes in The Force Awakens" by Kate Bennion. Thisweek, we start off with discussing how amazingly non-jerky Poe Dameron is. LISTENER FEEDBACK[26:25] Nick from London sends us anotheramazing theory. This time: Snoke is a clone! How is that possible? IS that how the Force works? Listen to hear Nick’s theory! NEWS [31:10] There’s information about Aftermath:Life Debt out of C2E2. Nothing too groundbreaking, but it’s nice to have ageneral idea of what it’s about. CANON NEWS [33:55] We get into a lot of informationabout Chewbacca and discuss what a life debt is and whether or not Chewbaccaactually owes one to Han (or maybe Han owes one to Chewie?). JOKE [37:20] Our joke thisweek is, again, from Chris from Star Wars Kidscast. Q: What cuddly bear flies X-wings for the Resistance? Q&A COUNCIL [38:40] Q: Of all the scenes in The Force Awakens, which one do you most want tofreeze-frame though when we get the Blu-Ray? STUMP THE LUMP! [45:05] The kids ask me another questionfrom Star Wars Trivial Pursuit: What were the odds of Han and Luke’s survivalduring the Hoth night, according to R2-D2?
