It's an all new That Real Blind Tech show. Brian welcomes in Aaron Hale, a motivational speaker, extreme athlete, business entrepreneur, and a Blind Veteran. We kick the interview off with Aaron telling us how he was blinded in combat as Aaron was in the army and an explosives expert. We find out what it feels like to approach an explosive device, and Aaron shares with us the incident that blinded him. Aaron then walks us through his recovery process at Walter Reed, and how helpful his introduction to the Bard Talking Book Reader was. While rehabbing and instructing Aaron was introduced to Homes for Heroes. Not one to sit around, as soon as Aaron got going on the iPhone, he began researching outdoor activities for the blind. He came across several blind people who have accomplished amazing tasks, and wanted to know how he could get involved with exploring the outdoors as someone who is blind. Which led to him climbing the Andes Mountains with a group of Wounded Veterans. Aaron and Brian reminisce a little about some of their favorite shows growing up. Aaron then tells us about when and how he lost his hearing, and what learning he would be deaf blind was like. Amazingly, Aaron all handled it phenomenally well thanks to his sense of humor. Aaron then shares with us what takes place during the Cochlear implant process. Next Aaron tells us a little about his time in the Navy as a cook, and how he eventually started a very successful fudge business called Extra Ordinary Delights. Read about Aaron's appearance on The Rachel Ray Show. Aaron then tells us about his continuing involvement with Homes for Heroes, and the upcoming event he is currently training for the Badwater 135 where he will be raising money for Homes For Heroes. If you would like to support Aaron or Homes For Heroes please make a donation here. We then discuss what the experience with Veteran Affairs has been like. Make sure to check out Aaron's podcast Point of Impact. On the centenary of Armistice Day, over 100 blind veterans assembled at Horse Guards Parade in London. Some were blinded in action. However, most started to lose their sight well after their service had ended. Reporter Dave Williams went to talk to them as they assembled for this historic event - we hear just some of their stories. Also, Peter White visits 97-year-old blind veteran Peter Van Zeller. He is a resident at a Blind Veteran’s UK care home, and shares the story of when he first discovered a previously-unknown family connection to the home, and the charity. Presenter: Peter White Reporter: Dave Williams Producer: Lee Kumutat
