Join us in this special episode of Ring Talk with Lou Eisen as we sit down with the multi-talented Adam J. Pollack, a true aficionado of the sweet science. Not only is Pollack a renowned boxing historian, but he is also a referee, judge, and publisher with his own law firm. Despite his numerous roles, he still finds time to immerse himself in the world of boxing and share his knowledge with enthusiasts. Pollack's passion for boxing history began at a young age, fueled by his fascination with old-time fights on video. Unsatisfied with the information available in existing books, he took it upon himself to dive deep into primary sources, unearthing the most detailed and accurate accounts of historical bouts. In 2006, Pollack published his first biography, shedding light on the life of the first gloved heavyweight champion, John L. Sullivan. Since then, he has continued his journey through boxing's rich history, chronicling the ring exploits of champions such as James J. Corbett, Bob Fitzsimmons, James J. Jeffries, Marvin Hart, Tommy Burns, and Jack Johnson, among others. His acclaimed "In the Ring With" series has earned rave reviews for its meticulous research and vivid storytelling. Throughout the episode, Pollack shares his insights into the early boxing pioneers, marveling at their endurance, toughness, and skill. His writing not only provides readers with a comprehensive understanding of these legendary fighters but also challenges conventional perceptions and sheds new light on their careers. Beyond the ring, Pollack's day job takes him to the courtroom as a defense attorney, demonstrating his dedication to justice both inside and outside the squared circle. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the rich history of boxing with Adam J. Pollack on Ring Talk with Lou Eisen. Like, comment, and share this video to celebrate the legacy of these boxing pioneers. #talkinfight #boxinghistory #AdamJPollack #loueisen #ringtalk #BoxingPioneers #IntheRingWith #boxinglegacy #boxingenthusiasts
(Josh) In 1896, retired from his life in the so-called "Wild West," Wyatt Earp was asked to referee a boxing match. But not just any boxing match - a bout that would determine the new heavyweight champion. Two legendary boxers, Bob Fitzsimmons and Tom Sharkey, duked it out in San Francisco. The legendary lawman Earp allegedly fixed the fight. On this episode of Footnoting History, come along from a walk through the seedy underbelly of illegal prizefighting and learn how Earp found himself at the center of tremendous controversy.
This week, Santino and Bobby Lee call in. We honor 30 years since Bob Fitzsimmons passed and correct the fake news about Target. Trans girl is sued for running too fast, Chick-Fil-A is the new Bud Light and Australia Man continues to challenge Fla Man.
In this episode, I discuss the 1891 wrestling match between Joe Acton and future heavyweight boxing champion Bob Fitzsimmons.

Sal and Bob are delighted to talk to boxing hall of fame journalist Nigel Collins (@NigelBoxing) to the show. They interview Nigel about his career (including his new book), his run-in with Muhammad Ali, what it meant for him to be inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame, and more! –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Born April 7, 1946, in England. Collins' passion for the sport of boxing began at a young age when his father and grandfather regaled him with stories of Bob Fitzsimmons, Joe Louis, and Archie Moore. After immigrating to the United States, he boxed in the US Army and eventually managed fighters before turning his attention to writing. His professional career began in January 1973 as The Ring's Philadelphia and Atlantic City correspondent. Collins continued to freelance until August 1983 when he joined The Ring staff as editor of Boxing Illustrated, then “The Bible of Boxing's” sister publication. After The Ring retired the Boxing Illustrated title following the November 1984 issue, he moved to The Ring and became editor-in-chief in 1985. He held that post until 1989. He rejoined the venerable publication in 1993 as managing editor and reassumed editor-in-chief position in 1997 and served in that capacity until 2011. During his career, Collins was also editor-in-chief of The Ring Almanac, KO, and World Boxing and was the author of 1990's Boxing Babylon. In 2007 he was awarded the James J. Walker Award for “Long and Meritorious Service to Boxing” by the BWAA. Respected for his integrity and knowledge of boxing history, Collins is currently a columnist for ESPN.com and Boxing News and is social media and content provider for ESPN2's Friday Night Fights.
