We agreed to take two pairs of tigers from their situation.  One from Antle and one from ZAA leader, Tanganyika.   With Jamie's approval, I told Bobbi Brink we would take the:   1 leopard 2 cougars 4 bobcats 1 Canada lynx   and amazingly the state of Florida issued an emergency permit, as Bobbi is loading them up as we speak in SD and it's snowing.  I told her we would cover the transport cost of 3.00 a mile, plus her hotels, etc. so that's probably about $7,000   FL & USDA require the cats arrive w/ health certificates, but it only has to be a visual by a vet saying they were breathing.  Bobbi is trying to get a vet out to Spirit of the Hills to issue one and I'm guessing will be on her way here first as we are probably most of her load.  She's taking a Serval and Jungle Cat back to CA with her from SD.   Let me know what kind of time table you are wanting on the four tigers and who I should list on the import permit as the person transferring them, ie: Turpentine or Serenity? address, phone, and the carrier.  FWC likes to have someone they can call to verify the origin.  Will that be Loving Friends or Bobbi?   In either event, FWC requires that I meet them at the FL / GA border and escort them in under my FWC permit.   For the cats,   Carole Baskin, CEO of Big Cat Rescue   Hi, I'm Carole Baskin and I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story.  The titles are the dates things happened. Facebook started a new thing for brands to create frames for fans. I am so relieved that the Wildlife Waystation was spared last night!   Posted to Facebook and boosted w/ $500 in ads:   Wildlife Waystation was nearly surrounded by the #‎SandFire last night that came within 1/2 mile of their 400 lions, tigers, chimps, bears and other wild animals. Huge shout out to Bobbi Brink for heading out to help them, along with everyone else in the community who offered space, trailers and muscle. During the night the winds shifted moving the fires away from the Waystation and at last report the sanctuary is safe. This was a gut wrenching couple of days for those who have rescued wild animals from being used as pets and pay to play props.   There shouldn't be a need for places like Big Cat Rescue or the Wildlife Waystation, where huge populations of captive bred wild animals can be in peril from natural disasters. We can keep tragedies like these from happening by stopping the problem at its root: End private possession of big cats. Please take action now at BigCatAct.com by sending the easy email to your lawmaker AND calling them. You'll get their number when you enter your zip code.   And you can ask USDA to stop cub handling with all species and ages of wild cats at TigerRescue.com   This fire could have burned hundreds of caged animals alive last night. They were spared, but it is a scenario that is likely to repeat, if we don't stop the breeding and discarding of wild cats as photo and pay to play props.   I am grateful that we can afford the tools we need.  Yesterday the iMac in the Kitten Cabana seemed to have bit the dust, so I ordered a new iMac for Afton to use on building videos.  She has the oldest machine, being a 2012, so the boost in power will really boost her productivity.   I am listening to a podcast about building totally sustainable housing from natural materials that includes ways to harness solar power, and turn dung into fuel, and has built in hydroponic gardens that are fertilized from the tilapia fish pools.  Each unit will be 700sf and about $35,000  I am thankful that I have access to such great thinkers and the ability to make the most of them.   I'd really love to buy Fox Valley pet formulas, but that's not my wheel house, so I sent this to Steve Watters, who created the LittleCatsHelpingBigCats.com initiative selling cat treats with our branding.   If I were in your line of work, I'd try to buy out http://www.foxvalleynutrition.com/product-lines/milkreplacers/   They make the best milk replacers we've ever found, but no one has ever heard of them and they are killing themselves by not offering any sort of online purchase by credit card.   Their website says they will take a credit card, but they don't, from what Jamie tells me.  They take the orders by email or phone.   Then you don't hear from them forever.  You call or email them and they tell you they forgot to send out your order...It will arrive eventually, if you keep hounding them.   Then they send it with a bill that they are hoping the customer will pay but many of their clients are poor rehabbers who might forget to send the money, by justifying that Fox Valley "forgot" to send their order in time to save a life.   It's just run so poorly and yet is such an outstanding product that foster parents of kittens, and rehabbers rave over.  If it were done right, I think it would be an amazing source of income.  If they don't want to sell, then maybe you could figure out the magic in their formula and offer an alternative that people could actually purchase in a timely manner.   Hi, I'm Carole Baskin and I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story.  The titles are the dates things happened. I have that sick, acid feeling in the pit of my stomach A rescue is underway and the anticipation and concern for the safe travels of the animals kept me from sleeping last night and from concentrating today.  On July 31, 2015 Bobbi Brink wrote:   Hi Carole,  Just wondering if you have any space for Tigers out of Ohio I can transport to you? - Bobbi Brink. Founder Director. Lions Tigers & Bears. "Where Every Life Counts" www.lionstigersandbears.org  619-659-8078   I responded by saying:  We do have space and can provide transport via Loving Friends as long as the cats are confiscations, or the owner will contract with us to never possess wild cats again.   A year earlier, on Oct. 24, 2014 Bobbie had asked if we would join her in writing the Gov. of OH about Tiger Ridge/ Kenny Hetrick because Kenny Hetrick, owner of Tiger Ridge Exotics, a backyard menagerie in Ohio said, "The only thing I know to do is have my veterinarian come out here and put everybody to sleep end it right here."  We went a step further and set up an alert driving thousands of people to write the state of OH.   Dear Friends,  Kenny Hetrick is the owner of six tigers, two lions, a liger, black leopard, Kodiak bear and a hybrid wolf in Ohio. He was served a ten day notice to relinquish his animals or have them seized by the state and face criminal charges. Hetrick has deliberately refused to comply with new laws enacted through Ohio SB 310, the Ohio Dangerous Wild Animals Act, which require private owners to register their animals, obtain permits and insurance and meet certain caging standards. He has had two years, but he waits until now when he is on the verge of losing his animals to begin to take action -we're saying "enough is enough"! It is time to do the best thing for his animals and get them to a reputable sanctuary where they can receive the care they need. Lions, Tigers & Bears is even willing to help! We have offered to provide medical care and a one-way ticket in the LTB Rescue Hauler to reputable sanctuaries. We have even found sanctuaries who have agreed to take his animals. It is now up to him to agree to accept this help.   Today I am writing you to ask a favor. Will you please write a letter to the Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, and the Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, David T. Daniels, asking that they enforce Ohio SB 310 by securing Hetrick's animals immediately and ensure no harm comes to them before they can be rehomed to reputable sanctuaries? A sample letter template is below. All letters need to be submitted by 5:00 pm CST on Tuesday, October 28th, 2014.   Media reports are referring to Tiger Ridge Exotics as a sanctuary. Hetrick's facility is not a sanctuary. A true sanctuary does not buy, sell, breed or exploit their animals. A sanctuary is "a place of safety, a safe haven." Hetrick has had dozens of USDA violations cited against his facility. Hetrick has deliberately defied the law for the past two years and has threatened to kill his animals rather than see them taken off the property.   We need to tell Governor Kasich and Director Daniels that Hetrick's time is up and it is now time to do what is best for these animals and ensure the public's safety. Enforce the law, secure this facility and get these animals to a lifetime home at a proper sanctuary immediately.   A letter is always more powerful and effective if it is written in your own words. If you have the time, please feel free to use the sample letter as a guideline for your own letter. Whether you submit your own letter or use the sample letter template, we want Governor Kasich and Director Daniels to know where we stand. Thank you for your support and concern for the welfare of these innocent animals. - Bobbi Brink, Founder/Director  Lions, Tigers & Bears   So 3 weeks go by and I don't hear anything from Bobbi, and then she texts me on Aug 21, 2015 and says the three tigers from OH that she was taking to Shambala, near her in CA, has reneged on the agreement to take them.     I told Bobbi that I had been keeping in contact with the state of OH and let them know we could take all the smaller cats they seize and some larger, but had not heard anything.  Apparently Bobbi had stayed focused on getting the cats, bears and wolves out and now she had 3 tigers and a leopard with no place to go.  I talked with Jamie and Howie and told her we would take all four.  Our last rescue was August a year ago, other than the bobcat rehab work.   That was on a Friday, after close of business, and then Bobbi tells me she has to leave OH with the trailer load of animals by Thursday.  That set into motion a whirlwind of activity on this end because I have to get an import permit from the FWC and the person who does that is named Angela Wylie.  It's no coincidence that the director of the FWC is Nick Wylie, who now seems to have it in for me.  I've been coming after him on the bear hunting issue and am ALL OVER HIM about his desire to open season on Florida Panthers as well.  I'm just lucky that he isn't having his inspectors harass us on a daily basis; and now I need him to issue an import permit for 3 tigers and a leopard.   The good news is that my former inspector, who has just had it with the state hiding the cruel activities of some of the states' most outrageous animal dealers, has been promoted to a position whereby he manages to get my permit application issued by someone other than the Wylies.  No one could do that until Monday, so the weekend had been lost in a haze of me worrying about it.   Because the state of OH is deep in litigation with the exploiter who owned these animals, they say we cannot talk about the rescue, cannot take photos and cannot video them, as it makes all of that information “discoverable” in a trial.  Frankly, I'd just love to be called as a witness in this case, but I agree to their terms.  It destroys our fund raising capacity as people don't care about supporting big cats; they just want to rescue them and then flit off to the next rescue.   The FWC holds us to rules and standards that they do not hold others to, but that is the price of being the leader against the abuses they condone.  One of the things they made me do was to agree, on the import permit, to escort Bobbi and the cats to Big Cat Rescue from the FL/ GA border and back again.  So now I'm sitting by my phone waiting for Bobbi to tell me that she is underway so that I can decide if I want to drive up to the border and spend the night, or if I want to drive up in the wee hours of the morning.  I'm packed, either way.  Just waiting, waiting, waiting…   Hi, I'm Carole Baskin and I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story.  The titles are the dates things happened. I have spent many sleepless nights picturing the tortured lives these cats end up living. The places where these marvelous animals are kept are truly disgusting – sometimes in places you would least expect, such as in miserable holding cells with no sunlight or windows, living in cages so small they barely have room to stand up or turn around. Many live in basements, never seeing the outdoors or smelling fresh air. I have seen 10 or more cats crowded together in a small enclosure, where they restlessly pace in filth and fight each other for scraps of food. Some starve to death.” https://lionstigersandbears.org/
