In this episode I am once again joined by Naomi Levine, author, under her birth name Norma Levine, of several books including ‘The Miraculous 16th Karmapa', ‘A Quest For The Hidden Lands', and ‘Chronicles of Love and Death: My Years With The Last Spiritual King of Bhutan'. In this interview, Naomi discusses her latest writing about the apocalyptic prophecies of the Kālacakra tantra, a Tibetan Buddhist scripture promoted by the Dalai Lama. Naomi discusses the doctrine of the dark age known as the “Kali Yuga” including its origins, its signs and symptoms, and Buddhist ideas about its unfolding. Naomi tells the story of Shambala, a mystical kingdom ruled by enlightened, bodhisattva kings, and reveals the prophesied holy war which the Kālacakra tantra claims will see the Shambala army face off against barbarian hordes. Naomi also discusses the surprising implications of the Dalai Lama's mass Kālacakra initiation rituals, the role of stūpas and other religious monuments in geomantic magick, and how she personally deals with a sense of impending apocalypse. … https://www.guruviking.com/podcast/ep288-apocalypse-now-naomi-levine Also available on Youtube, iTunes, & Spotify – search ‘Guru Viking Podcast'. … Topics Include: 00:00 - Intro 01:18 - What is the Kali Yuga? 06:38 - Moral and environmental degeneration 10:14 - When did the Kali Yuga begin? 12:39 - Signs of the Kali Yuga and climate change 15:55 - Multi-dimensional reality and hidden lands 17:44 - Naomi's pilgrimage to the hidden land of Pemako 20:42 - The Pure Lands in Buddhist cosmology 21:57 - The kingdom of Shambala 26:25 - Seeking Shambala 27:28 - The Kālacakra Tantra 30:28 - Prophecy of the battle of Shambala 33:42 - Good vs evil 35:26 - Does the Kālacakra refer to Islam? 37:42 - Why does the 14th Dalai Lama give Kālacakra initiations? 39:33 - Inner or outer battle? 43:01 - Tai Situ's interest in the timespan between Buddhas 44:55 - Is Shambala just a myth? 46:09 - What is Shambala? 47:35 - Shangri-La and Hilton's “Lost Horizons” 48:28 - Chogyam Trungpa's version of Shambala 51:50 - How geomancy and building stupas affect world events 52:48 - Stupas as geomantic magic 56:56 - Cancelling Jane Austen 57:52 - Dissolution of the elements 59:45 - Tukdam 01:01:47 - How Naomi responds to the end times 01:05:33 - The constantly shifting drama of world events 01:06:43 - Suggestion for non-Buddhists 01:07:48 - Naomi asks Steve's opinion 01:09:14 - Prophecies of lamas and other mystics 01:10:09 - Apocalyptic thinking and displaced death anxiety 01:10:31 - Naomi's attitude towards death … Previous episodes with Naomi Levine: - https://www.guruviking.com/search?q=naomi To find out more about Naomi Levine, visit: - https://www.facebook.com/naomilevine111 - https://www.amazon.com/stores/Norma-Levine/author/B001K86LZ4?ref=ap_rdr&store_ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true For more interviews, videos, and more visit: - https://www.guruviking.com Music ‘Deva Dasi' by Steve James

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 24, 2024 39:49

Buddha taught that "A disciplined mind brings happiness." In this episode, we explore how shedding the habits of mind that are harmful to ourselves or others is the key to our own happiness. In the stillness of reflection, we may notice how easily the mind clings to habits that bring harm—to ourselves, to others, to the fragile beauty of our relationships. Perhaps it is anger, rising like a sudden storm, that steals our peace. Or it could be an endless loop of self-criticism that pains us. These are habits of mind that obscure our happiness. When we take up the work of letting go—of releasing judgment, anger, envy, fear—we are not losing anything. We are gaining the freedom to connect with the happiness that has always been ours to reap. This letting go requires discipline, yes. But not the cold, harsh kind. It is the discipline of kindness, of gently steering our minds away from harm and toward healing. Buddha's teaching reminds us that we are not our anger, our jealousy, our despair. These are visitors, and we can send them on their way! In that letting go, we return to ourselves—whole, radiant, and alive with joy. It is a daily practice and perhaps a lifelong one. But as we strive in this practice, we uncover the deep truth of life: our joy is not something to be sought; it is something to be revealed. May we each take up this practice with courage and tenderness, knowing that as we uncover our joy, we offer it to the world. Whoever lets passion, aversion,  Conceit, and hypocrisy fall away  Like a mustard seed from the tip of an awl,  I call a brahmin. --Buddha, The Dhammapada Verse 407 References and Links Buddha. The Dhammapada. Sometimes I find it hard to believe, That a way forward will be shown. But it's not the path so much as how I walk it, That will ultimately bring me home. ☉ Wow, what a long, strange trip it's been, is what the Grateful Dead would say (the song Truckin')! And it shows no sign of getting any less strange this week or in the days ahead. It's a big week with many aspects I have woven into a synthesized report. However, there is always more to say.   Let's start with Mercury moving from airy Libra (tactful, diplomatic, nonviolent communication) into the deep waters of Scorpio. This is a shift from a month of objective, possibly compromising, and cooperative communication (Libra) to gut-based, passionate, and intense communication. For the next month, Mercury will consciously bring us down into the depths of ourselves through our most intimate relationships, allowing us to transform them and ourselves through them. I also wanted to spend more time on the Sun's opposition to Chiron. Back on April 8th, the conjunction sowed the seed potential of finding the power within ourselves to speak and assert our deepest needs and fears. To stand courageously for ourselves, our rights, and our freedom to BE. Now, at the opposition, it's time for that seed that has been developing and building energy within to come out, spread its leaves, and open its blossoms. May you bloom brightly! This week's song is “Can't Find My Way Home” by Eric Clapton and Blind Faith! https://youtu.be/8L82II1lNjo?si=K8gZCrKWCFz70yw1 And for something a little lighter, how about “On the Road to Shambala” by Three Dog Night  https://youtu.be/xnyh6i9NvmE?si=WYJNhm1jDV56vAU7 Join me for a Transformative Retreat in the Amazon Jungle

The Buddha, in his gentle wisdom, offered us a path to mindful speech through what he called "The Five Gatekeepers of Speech." These gatekeepers stand like sentinels, reminding us to pause before we speak. We ask ourselves: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it beneficial? Is it necessary? Is it the right time? Our speech, whether it lands on another's heart or drifts unnoticed through the air, always leaves its karmic mark on us. If we are kind to others with our speech, we create causes for our own happiness. When we are unkind to others, we create suffering for ourselves. Words are the most powerful tool we carry, shaping not only the world around us but also the spirit within us. With every sentence, we build up or break down—not just others but ourselves. This power is so profound because we wield it constantly. Each time we speak, we either sow seeds of healing or harm. And those words linger. Even when forgotten by others, their echoes remain within us, shaping our character--shaping our future. Beautiful speech Beautiful mind Beautiful world The Buddha taught us to tend to our speech mindfully, as one would a garden. The mind, planted with our words, will grow the fruits we eventually consume. So, let us speak with intention, knowing that every word has the power to uplift or diminish, and in the end, each of us must live among the gardens we plant. Metta, or loving-kindness, is a beautiful practice in Buddhism that calls on the heart to soften, to expand, to reach out with the wish for others's happiness and well-being. It's about nurturing love, not just for those who easily come to mind, but for everyone—the stranger, the difficult ones, and even ourselves.  Metta practice, at its core, is deeply intertwined with non-violence because it cultivates the kind of love that makes harm unthinkable. In a world that so often pushes us towards division, Metta reminds us to see the shared humanity in each person.   When you practice Metta, you are not just sending love out into the world, but you are transforming yourself. This practice dissolves the walls of anger, fear, and separation that lead to violence. It teaches us to see others not as enemies or obstacles, but as beings deserving of love, just like us. Non-violence isn't just the absence of harm; it's the presence of compassion. Through Metta, we learn that the peace we long to see in our world begins within—through the quiet revolution of our hearts.   A Practice Metta   Metta Prayer May all beings be peaceful. May all beings be happy. May all beings be safe. May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature. May all beings be free.   To practice the Metta Prayer begin by sitting comfortably, closing your eyes, and taking a deep breath. As you breathe, let the world fall away and center yourself in stillness.  Start Metta with yourself—because, yes, you, too, deserve your own love and kindness. Silently repeat: May I be peaceful. May I be happy. May I be safe. May I awaken to the light of my true nature. May I be free. Let those words settle into your soul. Feel their warmth, their truth. Then think of someone you love dearly, someone who brings you joy. Offer the same blessing to them: May you be peaceful. May you be happy. May you be safe. May you awaken to the light of your true nature. May you be free. Next, turn to someone you feel neutral about, maybe a person you pass by daily but hardly notice. Offer the prayer to them, with sincerity: May you be safe. May you awaken to the light of your true nature. May you be free. Then, in a brave act of compassion, think of someone who has hurt you, someone difficult. Send them these same loving-kind words. This is where true healing begins. May you be safe. May you awaken to the light of your true nature. May you be free. Finally, let your love expand to include all beings everywhere, those you know and those you will never meet. Visualize the world bathed in the light of this blessing: May all beings be peaceful. May all beings be happy. May all beings be safe. May all beings awaken to the light of their true nature. May all beings be free. You may not change the world in this moment, but you will have changed yourself—and in doing so, you sow the seeds of peace that ripple far beyond what you imagine. Whoever is not mixed up with  Householders or renunciants,  Who has no abode and few desires, I call a brahmin. That used to happen. The chariot races, the horse races, the foot races. Brian asks, is there anyway, we can incorporate that into what we're talking about. My mind immediately went to an idea. From the Shambala teachings. The idea of the wind horse. Let's talk about that a little bit today. On Creation's Paths. Intro hello everyone. My name is Charlie. I'm a non-binary sci-fi fantasy writer. I'm also a practicing. Druid and priest a Bridget. I am joined today by my very silly husband, Brian. [00:00:51] Brian - New: Hello. [00:00:52] Charlie- New: Today we're going to be talking about the Lungta or the wind horse. I've really been trying to see if I could find a Celtic equivalent. Of this or something from the Irish or Welsh. Scottish. Myths that would. Fit, this kind of story. I'm struggling for that. So if you know of anything, do let me know. My experience with this idea comes from. Chögyam trungpa Rinpoche's Shambala. Of the ideas that are presented in that book. And so I don't have the strong cultural connection to it. That others would with this appearing on various net national flags. And whatnot. So I want to kind of say state this up front that from my practice of Shambala. That's where this is coming from. I mean, nothing but respect. To all of the communities that have a much deeper. Tied to this imagery. Then perhaps I do. In shambala. The Lungta or wind horse. Is defined as an expression of the basic goodness of the universe, the basic energy of the universe. In druidry it straddles the line between what we would call Arwin and Nwyfre. Between that creative breath. That is blowing through the world. And that energy that we can tap into. It might be right to say that the wind horse in the Shambala teachings is an expression of Nwyfre. It is an expression of how you connect to that basic goodness. And learn to ride it. And learn to harness it and. Bring that energy into your life. To help it to flow through all things and through practice. The wonderful magic that is discussed in the Shambala. System. We were told that. The element of wind. Reminds us of just how strong. And exuberant. This basic goodness of the world is. If you've not encountered this idea before you. It's also present in Buddhism. Stop for a minute. Unless you're driving. If you're driving, pull over to the side of the road or do this part of the exercise when you get home. Or to, to a parking lot somewhere , don't do this while driving. I want you to close your eyes for a minute. And just slowly. Breathe in. And breathe out. Breathe in. And breathe out. And just focus on your breathing anytime, a thought or feeling. Tries to distract you from. Your breath. Just. Go back to the breath. No struggle. No fight. Just go back to your breath. And then there was something happening inside of you. Yeah, this is the beginning of a mindfulness meditation. This is how we start learning mindfulness. But do you notice something else? There's an ease. There's a. Sensation that a lot of people feel. When they enter this mindful state. It might take you a bit to. Dig down into it. You might not be instant. Let's just breathe in. And breathe. Slowly at first until you. Been able to. Gather that focus on your breathing. Then let your breathing. Become more natural. Let it flow in and out. And you'll feel something. There are a lot of words for this. Basic joy. Basic calm basic goodness. All manner of words for you. Feeling. It's very. Present. That's the heart and the root of mindfulness. That's basic. Goodness. Now I, from a druidic perspective. Would tell you. That you were touching the very edges of. Oh, This is like when you're a kid in the car and you stick your fingers out. Not the full window, like the whole window hasn't opened the windows kind of cracked. You kind of stick your fingers out and feel the wind. Brushing against the tips of your fingers. Where you're standing by the edge of a stream and you just gonna dip your fingers in and you feel the water. Flowing by. That's what you're feeling. In this moment. That basic goodness. That gentle flow. Of the Awen. This isn't like when the wind hits us and we're raptured away into this creative. Fury. The other one isn't there just then. It's always there. Everyone has a different name for it. Everyone has a different way of talking about it. And here in the Buddhist and. Shambala tradition. It's basic goodness. Because everything's okay. That moment in meditation that you get to where you just feel everything's all right. Now. Imagine being able to. Ride that feeling. That's the image in Shambala. That's the image of the wind horse. It's been able to get into that. Place of basic goodness. And ride that current. To ride it forward. And to stay on it and to harness that. Intrinsic power of the universe. That basic goodness. For better. Is that a powerful image? Is that an image that moves you? It moves me. That's how. We can start getting into the Awen. That's how we can start getting into basic goodness. And that's. And what we mean when we say riding the wind horse in the title. Yeah. It comes from this basic image. What. Would it mean if we could actually do that? Let's just think about this for a minute. Let's have a thought experiment. The whole idea of the Shambala practices. We're trying to bring that realm of all the enlightened beings to Shambala here. To earth. The idea in Christianity is we're trying to bring the kingdom of God here. May your will be done on heaven. And on earth as it is in heaven. In. Kabbalah, You are. Restoring the world. So that it will be made perfect in the world to come. A lot of us have this. Idea. We're trying to perfect them. a, Bodhisattva takes the vow so that they will not enter their final Nirvana. They're very Nirvana. Until all beings are enlightenment. You're here for the long haul. They're going to be here until the end until this golden age. In the Shambala teachings. We're told that. Learning. This practice. I'll be able to ride that basic goodness. That's how we get there. Now in Druidry, we don't have that. Per se. We can talk about. tir na nog getting. The land of youth, the land of the living. That other world. It really is. Um, other world we're not trying to bring tir na nog here. I think you can experience. Glimpses. Of the other world here. We're not actually going to enter the other world until we enter the other world. We are trying to bring that inspiration. That Awen. Into the world. We're trying to find. The Mabin. The child of light. That's been stolen from the divine mother. So that. Life can be restored to the land. Then so doing the story. We travel around to the four oldest creatures trying to find. Where the Mabin has been hidden. Whereas the child. Where did you hide? Where's he hidden where. Where is it? But even that's not an eschatological idea, right? It's there's no end of the world. We don't know if there wasn't an end of the world. There so little that has survived of Irish Welsh. Scottish Manx Cornish. Mythology. We don't know if they ever had. An idealized state or. Uh, cyclical universe kind of like what happens after Ragnar rock, where. The old gods are dead. And the three gods, the three sons of. Oden survive and recreate the world. I don't know. We don't even know if that's how that story originally ended. It's the version that we have was written by a Christian. And they could have just Christianized. So we, we don't know. I like to think. When we look at the stories. We can see this. Balance. This ideal of balance. Between our world and the other world. The spirit in the material world. We're not always working for the, either the spiritual or the material work. Trying to bring the best of both together. That would involve writing the wind horse. [00:09:20] Brian - New: In addition to that, I'm thinking about writing. The wind horse. I found myself thinking about. The word. and how it breaks down. Too. Lung being space. Of the five elements. ta meaning horse. Horse being that transformation. Of purifying of taking something. Bad and making it. Good. After thinking about it for a while. It dawned on me that. In this practice. When I am riding the wind horse, when I'm actively doing this. It is the act of. Being mindful of the five poisons. Transforming them. Into the five powers. When I'm in a journey throughout my daily life, I tried to be mindful of. That. When I'm really engaging in that, I'm. Engaging in that transformative power. The five poisons. are doubt. Which we. Experience often. even right now, I'm facing doubt. laziness. Lisa, this is something that, you know, He constantly wrestled against it's okay to rest. But laziness is that overindulgence. heedlessness. Not paying attention to where you're going or what you're doing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Recklessly charging forth. Distraction. as one of the ADHD community members. Uh, Yeah, distraction. Definitely a poisoning challenge. And ignorance. Through lungta, through riding the wind horse, the exercise. I look towards faith. because faith removes doubt. [00:10:57] Charlie- New: The faith that we're talking about here in the Buddhist context. Is what I would consider true faith. And that's trust. It's I have faith in my friends. It's I have learned to rely on this, that this is reliable. It is an earned. Trust it is not necessarily wish fulfilling trust. No. The important thing is that it is built from one. You start with a, I'm going to test this and see if it works. But you only keep that faith. Once you've learned that it is trustworthy. [00:11:30] Brian - New: It's proving all things holding fast to that, which is true. It is also that trust. That comes from. The hope that. Things will happen. But knowing that it might not happen in the way that you expect it to, or the manner in which you expect it to. You do the effort along with that hope it's hope plus effort, which is the second power. Which is the second power. Energy. Energy and effort. Very, uh, very, uh, yeah. That effort. That's what controls laziness. When getting into the five powers, the five poisons you'll realize one tends to lead to the other. Effort. That'll control that laziness. So it's, okay to rest. We all need to take time to rest, to rejuvenate, to heal. Two. Build our energy, our power back up. But that is different from. Overindulging in. Too much, [00:12:26] Charlie- New: I would say it's differently. As somebody who has a lot of chronic pain. Issues. In my life. I don't like this idea of. Overindulgence being the phrasing there for me. I look at laziness as. This inattentive use of energy. It's a wild. The broken power line. That's just sparking around and not. Really doing anything. It's not allowing your energy to flow where it can flow. Whatever little bits of energy you may have. [00:12:59] Brian - New: Yeah. It can also be obstructed or poorly applied energy. Or poorly applied effort, which. Flows right into the next one. That heedlessness as the poison or mindfulness. as the power. in those moments, when you're being heedless, when you're your energy is just randomly zapping out. And you are. Electrocuting people around you. So to speak. that's when you want to give pause. And be mindful. Just being aware. Of where your energy is, how it is flowing. It is in a way that meditation, Charlie. Having us do earlier. Just a simple breathing. Is a mindfulness and an awareness that we're all on the wind horse. We're on it, no matter whether we want to or not, it's called the journey of life in its present moment. It's being in a present moment. Were there. Which. Then it leads us to the next power is concentration. Where the poison is distraction. When you're finding yourself in those moments of distraction. Mindfulness can help lead you back into concentration. So you take that pause. Like when I have that. Ooh, what's that? It's okay to take that moment, whatever, but I then have to be mindful and bring myself back. Into focus back into concentrating. On where my energy needs to be, what I am actually doing, choosing to do. Yep. Not reacting, but choosing to do. In that moment. Which leads us. To the fifth power that's wisdom. Which helps to control ignorance. [00:14:37] Charlie- New: I think ignorance is one of the most important things in the world right now. Because. I feel like so many of our problems. Our people refusing to admit what they're ignorant about. Very true, because we've turned ignorance into a vice ignorance is an advice it's a poison. And it's one that's in the water. It's all around us, all around us. It's in the water. It's in the air. We're all ignorant of so many things. We're ignorant to so many things. We have no idea how many things we're ignorant of. [00:15:03] Brian - New: The headlessness in distractions in our lives. This leads us to our ignorance. Yes. We're distracted by clicking on this and clicking on that and watching this, watching that and not being mindful and not. Concentrating. On what we need to know or knowing that we don't know a lot of what we need to know. [00:15:23] Charlie- New: Or thinking that we know a lot more than we actually do. Yeah. That. Really is. In so many ways, the opposite of wisdom, like with wisdom. Starts by knowing that you don't know. I forgot who said it but admitting that you don't know is the beginning of wisdom. It really is. You have to start from the place of, I don't know. [00:15:43] Brian - New: Yeah. This is where they flow back into each other. Because faith allows you to go, I don't know. But I know I have faith. That I could still do things. I could still be active in my life and in my community. And have the energy to move forward. And with mindfulness and concentration, I can get more wisdom. So that I can be wiser, but also at the same time have that faith that I can step out there and maybe be wrong. Which is okay. That's part of learning. That's part of gaining wisdom. In being wrong and then admitting and being aware that you are wrong. Once you're made aware. You can then learn and grow and gain that wisdom. [00:16:27] Charlie- New: We're going to be talking about the five powers a lot. Because. They are the engine. That spirituality runs off. It's important for us to have a very active understanding of how our spirituality works. All too often. We just pick up ideas and we put them down and we don't really know what we're doing with them. And this model of understanding. Really helps us to get to the root of it. We picked something up and that's faith. Does this work? Let's try this. When somebody tells you do mindfulness meditation, that'll help you out. Like I did earlier. In this episode. Well, if you have just a little bit of faith of, okay, I'll try it. So you put in the effort. Which will hopefully bring you mindfulness literally in this case. Well, you become aware of what is going on. Which allows you to concentrate and focus in. And then a little, little bit of wisdom. Oh, I did calm down. My mind did come down. I did get a small taste of that basic goodness, that basic reality. That is. Under all things. And that gives you trust. Which is faith. And the cycle continues again and again, and again. don't believe that you can lose your faith. I hear people say this a lot. It's a very common. Phrase in English. I lost my faith in, I lost my faith in. Uh, you can have your faith betrayed. You can. Realize you had never really had faith in something to begin with, but you can't really lose it. Unless trust is betrayed. It doesn't really go away. I know many institutions once had my faith and trust. And then betrayed my faith and trust, and I no longer have faith in those institutions. I didn't lose my faith in. Those institutions. That's that's internalizing that feeling way too much. Those institutions betrayed my faith. They betrayed my trust. And so they no longer have it. And have a lot that they would have to do to earn it back. These five powers. Which are the engine. That runs. All spirituality, whether people are Mo. Mindful of it or not. It really does. Help you get in touch with that basic good does. And learning to operate this machine. That is what riding the lungta is. It's something to operate this machine. It's learning. To tap into that basic. River that basic flow. Of goodness of life. Whatever you want to call it. Yep. That is running through all things. I hope that this episode has helped you out in some way. Mattias tells the story of his possession by a malevolent entity, a demon attached to his ancestral line for generations. Mattias details the progression of his symptoms and his terror as the possession began to take deeper hold on his body and mind. Mattias recounts several attempts at exorcism, working with ritualists from Taoist, Catholic, Tibetan Buddhist, Spiritualist, and Māori traditions in increasingly desperate attempts to rid himself of the entity. Laws of Abundance
S3, Ep. 3 | The Triple Rabbit Hole

Laws of Abundance

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 26, 2024 13:56

It is time to go down a rabbit hole, my friends. The Rabbit and the Hare are both symbols of abundance, fertility, the womb, the moon, rebirth, and the goddess - and in this month of Ostara (Vernal Equinox) and Easter, when I am releasing this 3rd installment of the 3rd season of my podcast in the 3rd month of the year the symbol of the triple goddess, the trilogy, and the triple rabbit known as the Triskele (spelled out T R I S K E L E) is front and center in my consciousness.   The Triskele, the symbol of the triple rabbit or three hares, features three rabbits running in a circle and their ears join in the center to make an equilateral triangle. This symbol transcends religions found in Buddhist, Muslim, Christian and Celtic/Nordic traditions. It's found on a cave wall in China and drawn on rocks in Germanic and Celtic stones, and found within Christian churches in the British Isles. Like many symbols, it has been adopted by religion, but not really religious, as religion is really the new kid on the block - symbolism goes back much further into the primordial origins and archetypes of humans. Symbols are the sacred geometric building blocks of the universe - circles, squares, and triangles. All things are built on, and with these 3 shapes and sacred geometry is the stuff upon which all material comes into formation. I told you we were going down a rabbit hole and here we go - if you look at the Triskele in Celtic illustrations the rabbits running in circles are often replaced by spirals - the spiral is the Fibonacci Sequence and the pattern that fractals, flowers, snails, trees, crystal and all life grows in. In other words, the triple rabbit is the fibonacci sequence, the sacred geometric pattern of all life.  So, my three rabbits running in a circle with a triangle in the center represent life itself. The kingdom of heaven is embodied in this flesh, for I am the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Amen. (singing a little) "Jesus Christ Superstar… do you think you are what they say you are?" I share this Andrew Lloyd Webber lyric to make a point - Jesus, our celebrated riser from the dead at this time of year (symbolizing the resurrection of the earth from winter and all the cycles of rebirth and fertility that come at the vernal equinox), DID know EXACTLY what he was and was trying REALLY REALLY hard to get the rest of us humans at the time to listen. We are spirit embodied in this flesh. The glory and power of divine energy is held within this physicality. Thus, all the power of a god to manifest miracles can come forth from within each and every one of us. Spirit is symbolized with a triangle, as is fire. The fire of alchemy, the transformation from muck to gold. From this mundane flesh to spirit. To be enlightened is to sever the attachment to this physical body, being ALL that we are and are meant to be in this life. Yes, our physical bodies are built from sacred geometry; just look at the double helix of our physical DNA and then at the glyph of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. But that just means our spirit is currently contained in our flesh, not that we are only this flesh and blood.  Our journey in this lifetime, and what Jesus was trying to teach us, is that we can create miracles in our lives if we believe we are and choose to truly know ourselves as God. We need to know ourselves as divine beings capable of manifesting the life of purpose we want to live. But no one but ourselves can know yourself as this divine being. But once we choose to know ourselves as divine, as spirit, as a creator of our life - ignorance of our larger universal power cannot be taken away. The fundamental knowledge of the self as divine spirit opens the gate to the kingdom of heaven (not some place in the clouds with angels playing harps). Still, you reclaim your crown as the sovereign of your life and create a kingdom of joy, light, and abundance for yourself, your family and your community. And this is how we are going to create peace on earth. Like the church hymn. "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me." Shambala is a world where humans have actualized themselves, awakened to the possibility that they are the creator God of their life and are living that daily. They are treating themselves as a God and thus treating others as a God. If you know and love yourself as a divine and worthy being, you can know and love another as a divine and worthy being. Even if that divine being makes choices that harm you. You can forgive those who harm you because they know not what they do. They are ignorant that they are God and that they are harming another god. They are ignorant that they have a choice in what they are doing. Okay, some of you may now think I've fallen off my proverbial rocker with this rabbit hole. I've gone from three rabbits running in a circle to sacred geometry, Jesus Christ Superstar, and You are God. Yep—and now we are going to talk about the Easter Bunny. Jesus Christ, Angel. Yep, Exactly.  In my research about rabbits and hares, in an attempt to find some creative take on talking about Abundance Mindset or fertility, I went down a small hole little road about the Oschter Hare, i.e., The Easter Hare or i.e., the Easter Bunny to which many today attributes to the myth of Ostara or Eostre turning a bird into a rabbit and the rabbit laying eggs to show its gratitude to the goddess. This legend is pretty recent (like the late 1800s), but as synchronicity would have it, one article I read quoted a story from an April 13, 1911, Warren, Minnesota newspaper. My mother is from Warren, Minnesota as was her mother and father, my maternal grandparents George and Agnes Sabol. My grandparents were both from prolific Catholic families with 12 and 13 siblings at once. They were farmers of the midwestern plains, stoic and practical - but seeing the date of 1911 I wondered if either of them (George or Agnes) saw the article when they were growing up and if either of them ever believed in the Easter bunny. Ironically, Warren is the name of a home for rabbits - I learned this as a little person reading Watership Down, which isn't a book for children. However, I was not a normal child, and I picked up most of what Richard Adams was lying down with his rabbit allegory.   The quote from the 1911 Warren, Minnesota newspaper article reads.  "The Easter Bunny is said to have been a bird which at one time drew the chariot of the goddess of spring and was turned into a hare. Every year, however, at the coming of spring, the hare remembers and in commemoration of its original bird nature lays eggs as an offering to spring & youth that it symbolizes."  I never really believed in the Easter Bunny, but I did enjoy the tradition of the basket and the chocolate that was found there on Easter Sunday morning. I'm still not a fan of Cadbury eggs to this day (too sweet) but Easter Candy makes me think about my grandmother Agnes and going to church. (I'd always stuff my pockets with easter candy when brought to church on easter, and the chocolate would melt and get all over my hands, to my grandmother's great dissatisfaction). My grandmother loved to sing hymns. I think when she sang in church, it was one of the few times she felt joy in her life - because at that moment, she could connect with God within and without and be in the light, free from the sorrow of a life pockmarked with abuse, alcoholism and pain caused by untreated stomach and emotional maladies. I loved to watch her sing even if I hated being in the church because I knew it was her happy place, and nowhere else was.   I've spent a lot of time thinking about my grandmother Agnes. When you are a really young woman, and you watch one of your primary caregivers so miserable that they drink themselves to death, it sticks with you. And I know now that she suffered from the side effects of being sexually abused as a small child and other untreated trauma. But sorrow is not the only thing I learned from my grandmother Agnes. I knew the power of planting seeds and nourishing the world around you. She was a master gardener, and her plants were prolific. She was the living embodiment of The Empress archetype or the abundant mother goddess Lakshmi, as everything she touched grew abundantly, and she fed her family from her bounty. On an income of nothing but social security, my family never had food insecurity. There were vats of sauerkraut, beets, asparagus, fresh beans, carrots, tomatoes, radishes, lettuce, and raspberries all summer long, and pickles and canned things all winter. The men brought home the venison, and the women waited in line for government cheese and agricultural subsidies. We were financially poor but we were neither hungry nor lacking, ever. There was always enough money and prosperity to give to the church and to celebrate all holidays and birthdays. All of our needs were met. And we always sang. Sang in church. Sang when picking the beans. Sang when making a lemon meringue pie. And when singing, she knew joy, and we always had enough. And this is true abundance - joy in knowing you are spirit, resting upon gratitude and celebration of what you have even if it is not perfect, even sometimes if it is very far from ideal. When we can have true gratitude for everything we have and celebrate it and our life, we can be in a space of true joy and flow abundance in all aspects.   In some ways, it is just that simple. It is a rabbit laying eggs to celebrate spring and show gratitude to the goddess when it remembers it was once a bird. It is recognition that we are something way bigger and greater underneath this flesh. It is remembering who we truly are. We are spirit. We have never been born, and we will never die as spirits. And by remembering who we are we tap into the universal knowing, into the flow of life itself, and we start to create and love and experience joy - and thus take steps to nourish ourselves and others holistically - not just our physical bodies so we can step out of survival mode/lack mentality and instead see beyond lizard brain and switch into thriving/ abundance mindset where there is always enough. We run not away from things but towards things or for the joy of the wind in our hair or the feeling of using our legs where we gain the courage to create new pathways to plant new seeds in our life for new experiences versus settling for comfort zones. So, our exercise for this month is to plant a seed of joy in your life and to celebrate an accomplishment to nourish that joy with song and dance.  First, meditate and get clarity on one thing you want to create for yourself by August (1st Harvest/Lammas). You will have four months to nurture this seed. Write down what you want to create on a slip of paper. Now, take this piece of paper outside and find an appropriate place to plant it on the earth. You will dig up a little bit of soil and plant it, just like you would a natural seed.  After you bury it, you will nourish that joy seed with the water and fertilizer of your song and dance. You are going to celebrate unabashedly with complete silliness around the seed. Sing your favorite song or hymn, or make up a ditty and dance around the joy seed at least three times. But I encourage you to do even more than 3, work up a sweat! Get into it! Make yourself laugh at yourself. Belt that song out of those lungs and celebrate life, what you have accomplished, and what you can do as a divine being. You are the creator of your destiny. You are the rabbit who can lay eggs because you remember who you truly are! Dance in that circle, nourish your joy and grow in abundance. You are the nurturer, the God, the goddess; you are the spirit! You can create miracles. The kingdom of spirit is embodied in your flesh. Dance it out. Make that seed grow, sprout, and blossom into abundance throughout your life. You got this. Have fun with it! Light that alchemical fire of joy in your heart.  Well, I hope you enjoyed this little circle down a rabbit hole today, my friends. May you have a joyful spring, a blessed Ostara, a happy Easter, and a prayer-filled Ramadan. If you need a little assistance planting seeds of abundance and nourishment in your life, I can help with that! Reach out via my website and book a call today.

Within Tibetan Buddhism, Buddhists are sometimes referred to as "inner beings." What this means is that we turn inward. We learn to cultivate happiness and solve problems by changing our thoughts and actions. Like a sculptor with clay, our mind shapes our experiences. By observing thoughts, feelings, and habits, we gain insight into the workings of the mind. With this awareness, we can transform mental mental states to alleviate suffering.  Understanding that the source of a problem is inside a person doesn't imply blame but highlights our potential for growth and transformation. Recognizing internal causes allows us to engage in practices like mindfulness and meditation to address the root of problems and make real change. For example, the mind of anger distorts the way a person appears to us. Anger makes a person we normally love seem full of faults and unpleasant. Seeing our loved one through the lens of anger, causes us to see an enemy. By understanding the nature of anger and that its causes are thoughts, feelings, and the habit of anger, we can change these inputs. We could change our angry thoughts that focus on their faults to thoughts of appreciation for them. We can change our feeling to one of compassion for them. Ultimately, through practice, we can change our underlying habit of anger and live in a much more peaceful world. This process holds true for all our habits of mind. When we accept responsibility for our actions, feelings, and mental states, we take a huge step towards addressing the root causes of our problems. Not by matted hair, not by clan,  Not by birth does one become a brahmin. The one in whom there is truth and Dharma  Is the one who is pure, is a brahmin (Fronsdale, 2011) —Buddha, The Dhammapada, Verse 393   References with Links Buddha. The Dhammapada. This episode explores the question “Where does anger come from?” Buddhist teacher, JoAnn Fox, also provides several practical ways to prevent anger from arising (when it typically would)!  Anger doesn't come from another person or a situation. Anger comes from our thoughts. Specifically, when we pay inappropriate attention to an unpleasant object and dwell on its faults, we work ourselves up until anger arises. That point at which anger is manifest is when the mind is unpeaceful and uncontrolled.  A very sad aspect of anger is that this mental state has the wish to harm. The intention to harm is the nature of anger, just as the nature of fire is to burn. We don't want to harm those we love and cherish, but when we're angry that mind wants to harm them. That makes Buddha's advice to turn “ away from the intent to harm” and not “set anger loose” so important for all our relationships.  The first step in solving an anger problem is to admit we have one and decide we must do something about it. Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave this advice to a person who worked as a driver for a Dharma center. The driver complained of being very angry with his family and asked Rinpoche for some mantras to help him. Lama Zopa's response began: “My dear one, You have recognized that anger arising is not good and that you must do something about it. You're responsible for stopping that problem. Even this is progression toward peace and happiness.” How beautiful and powerful is this first discovery and the wish to change! One should not strike a brahmin  And a brahmin should not set [anger] loose.  Shame on the one who hits a brahmin  And greater shame on the one who sets [anger] loose. (389)*  For the brahmin, nothing is better  Than restraining the mind  From what it cherishes.  Whenever one turns away from the intent to harm,  Suffering is allayed. This episode explores the art of ethical living, guided by the practice of restraint. Restraint involves intentionally moderating and controlling one's actions, speech, and thoughts. We cultivate restraint to minimize the harm we cause and to build the foundation for spiritual development. A good guide for our practice of restraint is the Five Precepts. The Five Precepts were given to his lay (not ordained) followers as ethical guidelines that include the vow to abstain from killing, stealing, engaging in sexual misconduct, lying, and becoming intoxicated.  How to practice the ethical discipline of restraint: Generate the motivation to practice restraint with some action Decide we're going to do it  Use mindfulness to remember that we've decided to practice restraint Put this decision into practice Whoever does no ill  Through body, speech, and mind,  And is restrained in these three areas,  I call a brahmin. The primary motivation behind wanting to become a Buddha for the sake of all living beings is boundless compassion. This unconditional love and concern for the well-being and liberation of all sentient beings, without exception, takes effort to cultivate.   A bodhisattva is someone who, out of compassion, vows to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. The wish itself is called "bodhicitta." What marks becoming a bodhisattva is that their intention to become a Buddha is unmovable (meaning they've developed bodhicitta).  While the Bodhisattva Vow is central to the Mahayana Buddhist tradition, this aspiration to become a Buddha transcends cultural, religious, and philosophical boundaries. It is a universal call to alleviate suffering for all living beings, regardless of their background or beliefs. Some may view the aspiration to become a Buddha as a sacred duty, a calling that arises from a deep sense of responsibility towards all living beings and the world as a whole. The practice of Taking and Giving, or Tonglen, is a powerful method for cultivating compassion and ripening bodhicitta. It does so by developing empathy, erasing boundaries between self and other, transforming negative mental states, and deepening one's commitment to the welfare of all beings. Through consistent practice, we can gradually mature in our capacity for selfless love and compassion. By day shines the sun;  by night shines the moon;  in regalia shines the king;  in meditation shines the arahat;  but the Buddha in his glory shines at all times,  by day and by night. Metta meditation, also known as loving-kindness meditation, is a fundamental practice in Buddhism that cultivates feelings of love, compassion, and goodwill towards oneself and others. The word "Metta" is a Pali term that translates to "loving-kindness" or "benevolence." In this meditation, practitioners typically sit in a comfortable position and focus on generating feelings of love and kindness. The practice involves silently repeating phrases or affirmations that express well-wishes, such as "May you be happy, may you be healthy, may you be safe, may you live with ease."   The meditation progresses through stages, starting with sending loving-kindness to oneself, then extending it to loved ones, people we're neutral toward, and then to those we feel aversion or anger toward. The ultimate aim is to cultivate a boundless, unconditional love for all sentient beings. It also fosters a sense of interconnectedness and reduces emotions like anger and indifference.   Metta meditation is considered a powerful tool for developing compassion, empathy, and universal love and compassion. It is practiced in various forms across different Buddhist traditions. People from diverse backgrounds also use Metta meditation for its universal message of love and goodwill.    In this episode, we practice only the first round of the metta mediation, practicing loving-kindness toward ourselves:   May I be well May I be happy  May I be peaceful Whoever is  Seated, absorbed in meditation,  Done what had to be done,  Free of contaminants,  Who has reached the highest goal,  I call a brahmin. "The rain could turn to gold and still your thirst would not be slaked' the Buddha said. In this episode we explore the connection between the Buddhist teachings of emptiness and craving. Understanding this connection is fundamental to understanding the nature of suffering and the path to liberation. Emptiness (Shunyata) Emptiness refers to the fundamental nature of reality, which is devoid of inherent, fixed, or independent existence. The empty nature of all things is the opposite of how we normally perceive reality. If we see something as beautiful, we do not think our mind has anything to do with creating that beauty. We see a table, and we naturally think a table has an inherent identity as a table.  According to the Buddha, all phenomena, including physical objects, mental states, and even the self, lack an unchanging essence or self-nature. Emptiness is not a form of nothingness, but rather the absence of inherent, permanent, or self-existing characteristics. Craving (Tanha) or Thirst Craving (Tanha) is another crucial concept in Buddhism, often identified as the root cause of suffering. Sometimes Tanha is translated as “greed,” “attachment,” or “thirst.” In this episode, we related to this concept mainly as thirst. Thirst can be understood as a relentless attachment to sensory pleasures, material possessions, and other living beings. Thirst/craving is not merely enjoying these things, but becoming attached to them, so that if we can't have them or they disappoint us, we suffer. Buddha said attachment is like tasting honey on the razor's edge; the first taste is sweet, but, inevitably, pain follows.   Understanding the connection between emptiness and craving At the deepest level, thirst arises due to our ignorance of the true nature of reality, emptiness. According to the teachings of emptiness, nothing arises independently or in isolation. Instead, everything arises in dependence on causes and conditions. Emptiness means that all things lack inherent existence. For example, all things in reality depend on the name they are given, their function, label, and our mind's imputation (and more). Craving arises due to ignorance of this interdependent nature of things. We develop attachments and desires based on the mistaken idea of independent and fixed things of beauty or pleasure. We don't think that our mind is creating the beauty or pleasure we're craving, but it is!  Cessation of Craving and Liberation The Buddha taught that the cessation of craving leads to the cessation of suffering. The realization of the emptiness of all phenomena leads to the eradication of ignorance and, consequently, the cessation of craving. When craving is extinguished, suffering ceases, and one attains enlightenment, O Brahmana, cut off the stream of craving with diligence, and abandon sense desires. O Brahmana, perceiving the cessation of the conditioned, be an arahat who realizes Nibbana, the Unconditioned. (Verse 383) —Buddha, The Dhammapada. References and Links Buddha. The Dhammapada.
