The familiar little insect known as the water boatman is a marvel of engineering design. About an inch long, it swims on its back on the surface of the pond using two of its legs that are extra long and have little paddles on the end, just like the oars of a boat. Anyone who has tried swimming on his back knows how difficult it is to see where he is going, but not the water boatman. His eyes are especially placed for perfect sight while swimming on his back.As I mentioned, the boatman is an insect so of course does not have gills like a fish, yet he spends a lot of time underwater. How does he do this? Well, his Creator gave him the ability to breathe through his tail that he sticks out of the water, just like a snorkel tube. There are tiny hairs that keep the water out of this tube while he draws fresh air in to refill his air tanks for another dive. Those tiny hairs also tell the boatman whether a nearby movement in the water is something that would threaten him or something that might be good for lunch.Surely, the specialized features of this little insect could not have gradually developed by trial and error but are evidences of superb design and a master Designer.Romans 1:20"For from the creation of the world the invisible things of Him are clearly seen, being understood through the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse."Prayer: Dear Lord, even though the creation has been scarred and damaged by sin, its beauty and wonder is still marvelous to behold. For this, I thank You as I look forward to seeing the New Creation. In Jesus' Name. Amen.Ref: Bob Devine, Uncle Bob's Animal Stories, (Moody Press, Chicago, IL). Tune in here to this Friday edition of Breaking With Brett Jensen! Breaking Brett Jensen discusses Mecklenburg County’s legal requirement for pet licensing. Jensen shares a report explaining that all dogs, cats and even ferrets over four months old must be licensed annually. The licensing system is intended to encourage spaying and neutering, which helps control the pet population and reduces overcrowding in animal shelters. Jensen then provides an update to the story involving the two men who were arrested for riding horses through Uptown Charlotte. Later, Jensen highlights two additional animal-related stories. The first involves a woman in Gaston County accused of abandoning a box of newborn puppies. The second details overcrowding at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control. Send us a text This episode explores the unsettling history of animal spectacle through Terrible Ted the wrestling bear, the Cashmere Goat Baseball Club, and the infamous Diving Horse. These attractions blurred the line between circus entertainment, sideshow novelty, and normalized cruelty hidden behind applause. From staged danger and forced comedy to breathtaking stunts that masked suffering, each story reveals how animals were transformed into props for mass entertainment. Using historical context and cultural analysis, this episode examines how spectacle reshaped public morality and desensitized audiences. The question remains whether these acts were harmless fun or an early warning about what entertainment culture was willing to excuse. Gary and Shannon lead off with breaking news after Councilman Curren Price was rushed from an event for a health emergency, though reports suggest he seemed to be joking and in good spirits with Mayor Bass by his side. The pair then turn to the haunting case of Celeste Rivas Hernandez and its eerie ties to singer D4vd. From there, it's a whirlwind of stories: the bizarre crackdown on “illegal” breast implants in North Korea, the end of HOV lane privileges for solo EV drivers, and fresh listener reactions to Secretary Hegseth's military meeting. Later, they break down LA County's $20 million settlement in the tragic murder of 4-year-old Noah Cuatro, with Shannon sharply criticizing DCFS for repeated failures. The hour closes on a lighter note with animal time, discussing “Chunk” being crowned the Fat Bear Contest champion, and updates on SoFi's missing hawks, and more.
Gary and Shannon begin a wide-ranging hour with Fat Bear Week's final two contenders before diving into #SwampWatch. They break down Secretary of War Hegseth's military meeting, Trump's new deal with Pfizer, the looming government shutdown, Baron Trump's unusual Trump Tower date-night security lockdown, and cannabis stocks soaring after Trump praised CBD. Then, they discuss the controversy surrounding Tilly Norwood, an AI actress stirring up debate among SAG-AFTRA. It's also animal news time: from a Texas teacher feeding kittens to a snake, to stolen hawks at SoFi, a shark attack off Catalina, and even a Florida man charged with eating his own pet peacock. The hour wraps with another round of Terror in the Skies, featuring a meltdown by sunburned sisters kicked off a flight, a near-miss at LAX, and why the smell of burning rubber midair is more than a bad omen.

Silver Linings for Senior Dogs – The Rescue Ranch Giving Aging Pups a Second Chance Every cloud has a silver lining—and for senior dogs in Bend, Oregon, that silver lining is Silver Linings Rescue Ranch. Founded by Erica Psaltis, this heartwarming sanctuary is dedicated to giving older dogs the love, dignity, and second chance they so deeply deserve. After adopting a senior dog herself, Erica discovered just how much joy, wisdom, and companionship these “seasoned souls” bring. That experience led her to create a safe haven for older dogs—especially those left behind when their owners pass away or can no longer care for them. Located in the heart of Dog Town USA (yes, that's a real nickname for pet-loving Bend!), Silver Linings Rescue Ranch is more than just a place—it's a movement. In a city known for its iconic dog parade and dog-friendly culture, Erica is filling a gap in rescue work, focusing on dogs who are too often overlooked because of their age. This episode is a touching tribute to the power of second chances, the magic of senior dogs, and one woman's mission to make sure every dog's golden years truly shine. We're joined by the incredibly multi-talented Kate Zenna — actor, director, producer, writer... and above all, a devoted dog rescuer. Kate has been a lifelong dog lover and proudly lives with a pack of pups she's rescued over the years. Her tireless commitment to giving dogs a second chance has earned her a title I use with the utmost admiration: the crazy dog lady — and trust me, it's the highest of compliments. In this heartwarming and inspiring episode, Kate shares how she channels her many creative talents into finding loving homes for countless dogs. Her stories are too numerous for a single podcast, but we dig into some of her most memorable rescues and the passion that fuels her mission. We also get an exciting sneak peek at a new animal-centered film project she's developing — you'll hear about it here before almost anyone else. In this episode of The Fur Real Podcast, we head to the Arctic with Dr. Steven Amstrup of Polar Bears International, the world's leading organization dedicated to the conservation of polar bears and their sea ice habitat. With climate change melting the Arctic at an alarming rate, polar bears are being pushed to their limits—swimming longer distances, struggling to hunt, and adapting to a rapidly changing environment. Dr. Amstrup shares incredible facts about these powerful animals: their fur is actually translucent, their skin is black, and they're capable of swimming for days across icy waters. But beyond the trivia, this episode dives deep into the urgent challenges they face and what scientists and conservationists are doing to help. Whether you're a polar bear superfan or just polar bear-curious, this episode delivers eye-opening science, expert insights, and a powerful message of hope. www.furrealpodcast.com www.polarbearsinternational.org fb @The Fur Real Podcast fb @Mark A Kyle fb @polarbearsinternational Ig @thefurrealpodcast Ig @markakyle ig@polarbeardsinternational tik tok @The Fur Real Podcast tik tok @polarbearsinternational You Tube @ The Fur Real Podcast You Tube @Polarbearsinternational.org Speical thanks to J Jig Cicero @jjigcicero for our music intro and outro..you rock!!! When you think of cryotherapy, you probably picture a human stepping into a freezing cold chamber — but did you know cryotherapy is now helping horses without the giant ice-box contraptions? This week on The Fur Real Podcast, we dive into the cold, hard facts with Brady Case of Precision Equine Therapy, a pioneer bringing mobile cryotherapy directly to horses (and even their owners!). Brady breaks down how targeted cryotherapy triggers a powerful physiological response that reduces pain, inflammation, and promotes faster healing — often slashing recovery times in ways that seem almost unbelievable. We talk about the science behind the chill, why cold therapy works so effectively for injuries and maintenance, and how his mobile system makes it easy for horse owners and trainers to integrate cryotherapy into their regular care routines. Not only is Brady treating horses, but he's also empowering owners, trainers, and barn staff to learn the techniques themselves — creating a ripple effect of better health and recovery in equine communities everywhere. If you love learning about cutting-edge animal therapies, want to boost your horse's performance and recovery, or are just curious how a little cold can create such hot results, you won't want to miss this episode. www.furrealpodcast.com www.pecryo.com fb The Fur Real Podcast fb Mark A Kyle fb Precision Equine Cryotherapy ig@thefurrealpodcast ig@markakyle ig@precision_equine_therapy tik tok @The Fur Real Podcast tik tok @pecryo Speical thanks to J Jig Cicero @jjigcicero for our music intro and outro..you rock!!! What comes to mind when you hear the word Penguin? Not the Batman villain (though he had some flair)… We're talking about the real-deal, black-and-white waddlers—like Charlie Chaplin in a tux, just with more feathers and fish breath. In today's episode we welcome Professor Richard Reina, a top expert in animal responses to the environment and—get this—a leading authority on the Little Penguin. Also called the Fairy Penguin or the Little Blue Penguin (yep, they're actually blue), these adorable creatures are the smallest penguins on the planet. We're diving beak-first into: What a “penguin divorce” looks like (spoiler: it's not as dramatic as Hollywood, but still juicy) What these tiny tuxedoed swimmers snack on How they survive in a rapidly changing world And why they're more fascinating than you'd ever expect Whether you're a penguin superfan or just here for the animal oddities, this episode is full of fun facts, expert insight, and a whole lot of penguin charm. So grab your fish snacks and get ready to waddle into the wonderful world of the Little Blue Penguin! www.furrealpodcast.com ig@thefurrealpodcast ig@markakyle fb The Fur Real Podcast fb Mark A Kyle tiktok @ The Fur Real Podcast Speical thanks to J Jig Cicero @jjigcicero for our music intro and outro..you rock!!!
