Here we are with another episode of Unbothered by Thai Rivera to discuss evolution. The problem with most people, not just in my life but, in general is that they don't evolve. People stay mad about the same things forever, never really looking for how they can improve or what their contribution might have been. Instead most things for most people are about shifting blame. The problem with this really comes in when these people decide they're going to tell you what you are not realizing that maybe you actually do and have changed. For me evolution is very natural. Back with another episode of the only video podcast in Las Vegas that actually matters. I titled this one Please Forgive Me because we cover a lot of ground but in the end a lot of what seems to happen on the Vegas comedy scene is, whether I wrong them or they wrong me, I'm always supposed to be the one that needs to ask for their forgiveness. I just want to make sure everybody know it's OK to say no to toxic people in 2022. Toxic people will try to make you feel like you're doing something wrong by putting a boundary down. They'll also try to make you feel like you're victimizing them by not forgiving them. But it is 100% OK to just cut them out completely and don't let anybody tell you different. Let this be the last time we have to talk about something like this. Last weekend was mess and I ended up HAVING to call the police. The last couple of weeks has been all about being able to roll with it. Whatever it is I've just had to roll with it. On this episode of Unbothered by Thai Rivera I talk about the conversation I had on the phone with comedian Alex Elkin about last week's episode. I don't think Alex is a bad guy but I definitely think he has bit of a blind spot. I also talk about the responsibility that I think some of us have as comedians to not only speak but also to listen. I know some comedians will disagree but I also know that some people in general will refuse to grow and some of those people happen to be comedians. This episode of Unbothered by Thai Rivera may BOTHER some people but I have known Diaz Mackie for many years. I can't say I remember exactly what year he was accused in but the accusations never fully added up for me. Since then he has been in jail, served 2.5 years probation, been removed from shows and festivals and had his life turned upside down. If I thought he deserved it, if I thought he was guilty I would not have had him on my podcast. But I definitely did have questions for him and I'm honest with him on this episode about what didn't add up for me. We recorded this episode about 2 weeks ago on the day that Derek Chauvin was found guilty. I mention this because I think it says something about people that they will march in the streets because they admit that the criminal justice system isn't always fair with Black men specifically/especially but then when they see a Black man going through the system before their own eyes there's no compassion, sympathy, empathy or even benefit of the doubt. Anyway, like I've already said, I had questions that I wanted answers so, in a sense, I used Diaz to help me get unbothered and I think he got unbothered too. So I guess you could say we used each other and my podcast to get unbothered. Let me start with a question, what is the lightest material on the planet? The answer is something called Aerogel. It is so light and so durable that NASA used it to capture ‘Stardust’. Impressive for a product that has its roots in a #2 Pencil, Carbon. Why do I introduce this Fact? Karen Biehl has created the musical equivalent of Aerogel, the music is so light yet so well composed that the listener is picked up and transported to a world of peace and tranquility, a place that is so sadly lacking in our modern world. Some music is designed to provoke, some music is designed to be ignored, and some music just picks you up and takes you on a journey. Starlight Dreams is certainly in the category of ‘taking you on a journey’. As with any musician I listen to I went digging online for information, her website is www.maestramusica.com What surprised me about the site was that it was not your usual, About me, Buy My Album, and Good Bye. She also is involved with a Youth Scholarship Program. Everyone preaches STEM from the rafters but I think the arts are just as important.
