In 2015, the media became obsessed with one man's attempts to grow tea in the Scottish Highlands. The BBC profiled him on the One Show. Radio reporters flocked to interview him. Even the Chinese national news agency reported his work. Tam O'Braan (as he was then known) was the first to ever sell Scottish tea, and the press went wild. Fornum and Mason bought his leaves. The Dorchester created a new Scottish tea-tasting menu. Barack Obama reportedly tried his tea, and the Queen loved it. Tam's business started bringing in hundreds of thousands of pounds. But soon his lies began to unravel. Today, with Jaega Wise, we tell the story of the Scottish tea scandal. We explain how Tam O'Brann fooled the world and the psychology behind why so many customers believed him. --- Listen to the BBC Food Program's show on the scandal: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002mn01 Learn more about Jaega: https://www.jaegawise.com/ Unlock the Nudge Vaults: https://www.nudgepodcast.com/vaults Join 10,828 readers of my newsletter: https://www.nudgepodcast.com/mailing-list Connect on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/phill-agnew/ --- Today's sources: Koschate-Fischer, N., Diamantopoulos, A., & Oldenkotte, K. Jimmy and Mika somehow pulled off booking Alison Mackie—literally at the last minute—and she brings all the good vibes and killer stories from her breakout season on the World Cup. Alison dives into her crazy jump from being barely known to racking up top World Cup results, and shares what it's actually like navigating the whirlwind of international racing as a young Canadian. You'll hear about money struggles, travel chaos, surviving road trips, what it really costs to race at the top level, and why the World Cup is both a dream and a grind for North Americans. The crew also gets into big topics: racing traditions, the infamous Holmenkollen 50K, struggles with federation funding, and why sometimes you just have to break the “no candy before dinner” rule.

MSU swept the state of Indiana — ending a 12-year drought at Mackie and running through Assembly Hall without a lead change — and Grooch came back from paternity leave to make promises on his daughter's life about the team's national ranking. Kohler had his best game of the season at Indiana, Teng went off for 18 on six threes, and the dream is officially back on. In this episode of the REB Podcast, editor Liam Garman sits down with DiJones CEO Dean Mackie and COO Brent May to explore what it takes to be the "agent of tomorrow" and how you can thrive in the rapidly evolving real estate market. They discuss the speed of industry changes, from anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) reforms and Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) compliance to the disruptive impact of generative AI, and how top agents can balance innovation with the human connection. Mackie explains the philosophy behind agents needing to "unlearn" outdated habits, while May reveals how enhanced databasing must form a key centrepiece of the agent's strategy – allowing them to find buyers before going to market. The conversation turns to how competition is reshaping commission structure and the role of technology in marketing and property discovery, providing a pragmatic roadmap for agents and leaders navigating digital transformation and market consolidation. Kris Crummett is on the show, and this one rips. Kris has been in music for basically his entire life and has worked on records by Issues, Sleeping With Sirens, Dance Gavin Dance, Alesana, Jonny Craig, Emarosa, Night Verses, and a whole lot more! If you've ever wondered why one record punches you in the chest and another one sounds like it got sat on, Kris explains exactly why. We go deep on his path from making demos in a garage with ADATs and a Mackie mixer to becoming one of the most trusted names in production and mastering around Portland and beyond. This is not a fluffy “studio guy” interview. Kris gets into the real stuff: how his early demos beat local “pro” studios, why bands accidentally sabotage their own masters, what mastering engineers actually need from you, and how knowing when to stop tweaking might be the most important skill in the room. We also talk about the shift from chasing the band dream to building a career behind the scenes, the difference between hearing music as a fan vs hearing it like a technician, and why AI might create less of a takeover and more of a backlash toward real, human music. Brethren, this Short Talk Bulletin Podcast episode was written by MW Bro Carl H. Claudy and first published in July 1949. This justly famous elaboration of the Prestonian lecture upon Geometry, part of the Fellowcraft degree, is less well known to present day Masons than it’s poetical content deserves. Mackie mistakenly attributes the authorship to Pike, but, lucky for you, here is the real story. Enjoy, and do share this and all of these Podcast episodes with your brother and your Lodge.
Two wins against UCLA and Ohio State keep the Spartans at 22-5, but this episode earns its soul not from the wins themselves — the UCLA game was a blowout and the Ohio State game was an officiating drama wrapped around a Bruce Thornton highlight reel — but from the questions underneath: whether Kohler's foul trouble and shooting coldness is a problem that follows them to Mackie, whether Fears can finally become the guy Izzo is still waiting for, and whether Carson Cooper's career performance against Ohio State is a new floor or just a good day. Mick Cronin provides the comic relief, the Naismith committee provides the outrage, and Plum once again is right about Jeremy Fears being maddeningly inconsistent, even in a win.
God is Good…We Promise- Carrissa's story Summary: In part two of our series, “God Is Good… We Promise,” we continue sharing real stories of God's goodness—even when life doesn't make sense. This week, we're joined by Carrissa Mackie, Director of Operations for Rising Above who bravely opens up about an incredibly challenging season in her life. Carrissa shares how a serious leg injury became an unexpected place where God revealed His goodness in a deeply personal way. Through vulnerability and honesty, she reflects on how her faith was tested, how it grew, and how she learned to truly trust God's will—especially when the future felt uncertain. Her story is a powerful reminder that God is still good, even in pain, waiting, and unanswered questions. Related Links: Practical Ways to Come Alongside Families Moment of Reflection: For this week's Moment of Reflection, Carrissa shared how, after her injury, she experienced a deeper desire to draw close to God. She explained that she now strives to make no decision and take no step forward without first seeking assurance that it aligns with God's will for her life. As parents of children with disabilities, there are countless decisions to navigate—many of them heavy and life-altering. Are there areas of life right now that feel unsettled or uncertain, leaving questions about which direction to take? This week, consider bringing those questions to God. Spend intentional time with Him, asking for clarity, guidance, and wisdom for the next step, and for a greater ability to recognize and hear His voice.

In this episode of The Great Plains Archaeology Podcast, host Carlton Shield Chief Gover is joined by Dr. Madeline Mackie, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Michigan State University, to explore the archaeology of mammoth kill sites in the Northwest Plains.Dr. Mackie walks us through what makes a site a “kill site” and how archaeologists determine whether mammoths were hunted by humans or died naturally. She shares insights into the types of tools, bone modifications, and site features that point to deliberate human activity—offering a glimpse into the complex and skilled lifeways of Paleoindigenous peoples. The discussion also highlights what these mammoth kills reveal about how early humans adapted to shifting environments at the end of the Ice Age, providing crucial context for understanding the transition into the Archaic period. Dr. Mackie closes with a call to action: the Plains needs more archaeologists dedicated to uncovering and interpreting the Archaic period—one of the most understudied and dynamic chapters of Indigenous history.Great Plains Archaeology PodcastLinks:The Archaeology of the North American Great Plains by Douglas B. Michael Mackie swears there's real magic in living smack-dab in the middle of the map. As an entertainment reporter in Kansas City, he's learned that if you hang around long enough, the famous folks eventually come to you. To this day, he's not entirely sure how he landed interviews with Jennifer Lopez, Samuel L. Jackson, Cameron Diaz, or John Travolta. In You Have 4 Minutes, Michael pulls back the curtain on the wild world of celebrity interviews—why "The Bionic Woman" herself, Lindsay Wagner, left him starstruck, and why Andrew Dice Clay… well, didn't. Beyond the red carpets and sound bites, he opens up about the tougher chapters of his life: the stroke that blindsided him at 40, his battle with alcoholism, and yes—an entire year without refined sugar. Honest, funny, and full of heart, this is Michael's story of asking good questions, surviving hard things, and finding joy in unexpected places—right in the middle of the map. For the final regular podcast of 2025, I am thrilled to welcome back my friend, eight-time Emmy-winning media personality Michael Mackie, to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast! Michael Mackie is a proud Midwesterner. Growing up, he always knew he wanted to be in TV. Or on TV. Or watching TV. (He's not picky.) “I even got my degree in broadcasting from the University of Iowa to prove to the world I was not only educated but well-versed in sitcoms, game shows, and Oprah,” he says. “Also, I got minors in French and acting as well. Someday, that will enable me to write, produce, direct, and star in a straight-to-video project in Quebec.” Not only is Michael an Aries with a Pisces rising, but he's also an eight-time Emmy award winner. He's worked and freelanced for various local television affiliates in Des Moines, Orlando, and Kansas City, and was the co-host of a local daily entertainment show, KC Live. A prolific travel writer by trade, Michael recently joined the prestigious Society of American Travel Writers. “My parents never could comprehend how I earned my keep stringing words together for the universe to appreciate,” he says. “Frankly, that makes three of us. But I feel like it's what I was put on this earth to do. I was born to tell people's stories. Whether you read it—welp, that's up to you.” Recently, Michael Mackie released his new book, You Have 4 Minutes: My Life as an Unlikely Celebrity Interviewer. The book, which includes an introduction by Cindy Wilson of the B-52's, explains why actress Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman) was one of his favorite interview subjects, and why Andrew Dice Clay was his worst interview. You Have 4 Minutes explores the art of interviewing, dishes a bit of gossip about the stars, and dives deep into his navigation throughout his life's biggest challenges – suffering a major stroke at age 40, the beast that is alcoholism, and a year without all refined sugar. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Michael Mackie spoke about his writing process, some of his most memorable entries, including telling Marie Osmond, “Perky! Boobies Up,” and Jennifer Holliday's presence on the defunct Kansas City Live set, and having Cindy Wilson write the book's introduction.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

Ghost Rider was something of an also-ran character in the 70s and 80s, so when editor-turned-writer Howard Mackie was invited to pitch a revival in 1990, Marvel didn't have high hopes. But, with a brand new human host created by Mackie and a gritty and powerful redesign by artist Javier Saltares, the Spirit of Vengeance soon became a massive commercial success. We figured the first Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch - Vengeance Reborn Epic Collection would be seasonally appropriate reading for Halloween, but there's very little of the supernatural in these pages (except for the flaming-skull-headed biker himself). Instead, mysteries layered on top of mysteries are the order of the day, so your hosts will try to untangle what it all means (and whether it matters). We'll also uncover Mackie's personal connection to Danny Ketch's neighborhood and debate how to pronounce "Zarathos"!Discussed in this episode: Ghost Rider #1-12, Doctor Strange #28, and selected material from Marvel Comics Presents #64-71Justin and Jim spent all their money on leather jackets covered in spikes and chains, so they don't have any money left over to buy comics! In 1695, a small rural, farming community of southwest Scotland was shaken by strange events at the farmhouse of Ringcroft of Stocking. What began with the shuffling around of livestock, soon escalated into unexplained noises, stones thrown through the air and voices that no one could trace. Neighbors and ministers all flocked to witness the disturbances, but none could find a cause and no amount of prayers could bring peace to the household, who lived under siege for almost an entire month, before, as suddenly as it started, the disturbances stopped, leaving nothing but unanswered questions and a pile of smouldering ashes.SOURCES Telfair, Alexander (1695) A true relation of an apparition, expressions, and actings of a spirit which infested the house of Andrew Mackie, in Ringcroft of Stocking… . Tony and his daughter Mackie (@beautybymackie) catch up on a lot of life. Since the last time they hit record, Mackie has navigated big career shifts, health challenges, and new adventures. Tony has faced major surgery and the loss of his mom (Mackie's grandmother). Together, they dive into the messy, uncomfortable, and often hilarious realities of change — why our brains resist it, why it feels so daunting in the moment, and why it's actually the engine of growth. From dad jokes about Gen Z slang to real talk about autoimmune diagnoses, resilience, and reinventing yourself, this conversation is equal parts laughter, honesty, and insight. If you're navigating your own season of change, this episode will remind you that discomfort isn't just survivable — it's what shapes who you're becoming. Our next Terrified Together is with Kassie, the awesome host of the Tell Me Your Ghost Story Podcast. Our first story comes from Mackie in Lubbock, Texas, who experienced a terrifying encounter that drained her and her boyfriend's energy for an entire week. What started as unexplained fatigue and loss of motivation escalated into a haunting night where they both witnessed a seven-foot shadow figure prowling outside their bedroom window, followed by mysterious tapping sounds that sent them scrambling to check every lock in the house. The second tale takes us to rural Ohio, where 13-year-old Calla and her friend Maddie decided to experiment with the Red Book game - a paranormal ritual involving a red hardcover book (they used a dictionary) and candles. What began as innocent curiosity quickly turned sinister when the spirits they contacted through the book refused to let them leave the game. The aftermath brought sleep paralysis, mysterious scratches, encounters with shadow figures, and the terrifying appearance of the "old hag" - experiences that followed both girls to their separate homes until they performed cleansing rituals to break free from whatever had attached itself to them.
