Is your online donation form secretly scaring donors away? In this episode of Inspired Nonprofit Leadership, I'm joined by Josh Bloomfield, founder of GiveCloud, for a refreshingly honest look at why most nonprofit fundraising tech is stuck in the past—and how small changes can make a big impact. We talk about “trust-raising” instead of just fundraising, what nonprofits can learn from e-commerce giants like Amazon, and why a slow, thoughtful donor journey almost always beats a rushed one. If your donation form feels like an IRS document, it's time for a change. Mindset is only part of the equation to finally stop chasing motivation. This week on Acta Non Verba Sal Di Stefano shares why short-term diets and “hard-core” fitness methods are not sustainable and how you can strategically rebuild relationship with physical health one step at a time. During this conversation Sal and I will discuss micro adversity, how restriction sets you up for failure, and how his understanding of science has changed the way he communicates fitness and health to others. Sal was 14 years old when he touched his first weight and from that moment he was hooked. Growing up asthmatic, frequently sick and painfully skinny, Sal saw weightlifting as a way to change his body and his self-image. At age 18 his passion for the art and science of resistance training was so consuming that he decided to make it his profession and become a personal trainer. By 19 he was managing health clubs and by 22 he owned his own gym. After over 18 years as a personal trainer he has dedicated himself to bringing science and TRUTH to the fitness industry. Sal is also a dedicated father to a son and daughter. Rational thinking might drive economics, but emotional behavior drives decisions. And no one understands that better than Dan Ariely, author of Predictably Irrational, a book that's reshaped our assumptions about how people make decisions. In this episode, we're unpacking key lessons from Dan Ariely's work with the help of our special guest, Leslie Alore, SVP of Marketing at Flexera.Together, we explore what B2B marketers can learn from setting the right expectations, why fewer choices close more deals, and how the power of “free” and fear of loss can drive serious retention.About our guest, Leslie AloreAs the SVP of Marketing, Leslie Alore leads Flexera's marketing strategy with an aim to create great experiences and outcomes for our customers. Her passion for people and technology—combined with more than 15 years of marketing leadership in the tech space—has established her as a successful, results-driven executive who enables teams to do their best work.Prior to joining Flexera, Leslie served as the Global SVP of Lifecycle Marketing at Ivanti. Before that, she held various marketing, operations and GTM strategy roles at Iron Mountain. Leslie is an active speaker and mentor in the GTM community, and has been recognized among “Top Women in Marketing” by Ragan Communications and “Women of the Channel” by CRN.Leslie holds a BBA in Management, and an MBA with a concentration in Strategic Leadership from Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration. What B2B Companies Can Learn From Predictably Irrational:Set expectations to shape reality. Great marketing doesn't just reflect value, it creates the conditions for it. Leslie highlights how expectations shape reality. When buyers believe something is good, they interpret every detail through that lens. This isn't about manipulation, it's about clarity and consistency. Leslie says, “The effect of expectations… believing beforehand something is good, therefore it will be or the reverse.” So stop hoping your audience connects the dots. Tell them what to expect, then deliver on it. Perception isn't a bonus, it's the foundation.Shrink your options to speed the decision. Too many options stall progress. The paradox of choice tells us more isn't better, it's paralyzing. Leslie urges marketers to curate the path forward: “You actually want to give people fewer options and take control of the options that they see.” Don't just join the shortlist, define it. When you narrow the frame, you speed up the decision for your customers. Turn “free” into staying power with loss aversion. There's magic in “free,” but the real power lies in what people fear losing. Once someone uses your product, whether it's a freemium tool or an ungated resource, they've invested. Now there's skin in the game. Leslie puts it simply, “People will overvalue something that's free and ignore kind of the trade-off costs associated. And loss is psychologically painful. We don't want to lose that, which we already have.” Whether you offer software, content, or services, create early wins. Then make the cost of leaving feel higher than the cost of staying.Quotes*“ There's many organizations that lean into that power of positivity…What's very interesting is that consumer brands do this a lot very, very well. B2B organizations tend to do almost the opposite. They tend to lean more into FUD. And that's a harder road to tread.”*“ If you're an organization that is selling software, the software is designed to provide a business outcome. It's designed to solve a business problem. Instead of focusing on, here's the business problem. Doesn't that suck for you? You can say, ‘here's the solution.*“You have the power, you can feel confident about your ability to achieve X, Y, Z because you've solved this problem.' It's saying the same thing, but orienting it in a positive way and being very, very, very consistent in that message. Beat that drum over and over and over again.”*“ Narrow down the competitive options for them. Your sales process will move faster. You will be able to take better control of the narrative if you say, ‘this is us and these are the two other vendors that look like us. And here's why we are different and better, and here's what you can expect from these guys.' And that doesn't mean saying negative things about them. It's just highlighting your strengths and your virtues.”*“People are willing to accept trade-offs for something that is perceived to be free…This is the exact reason that PLG, product-led growth, is so powerful. Because if you can get people in the door with some sort of freemium offering, people will actually work harder to do the legwork to get a free product to work and interact with it, than they might be willing to put in for something that they have to go pay for. And then once they have it and they've put in the work, they don't wanna lose it.”Time Stamps[00:55] Meet Leslie Alore, SVP of Marketing at Flexera[00:56] Why Predictably Irrational?[02:20] The Role of SVP of Marketing at Flexera[02:47] Understanding Predictably Irrational[09:56] B2B Marketing Lessons from Predictably Irrational[37:49] Cognitive Dissonance in Buying Behavior[42:17] Emotional Marketing in B2B[46:18] Final Thoughts and TakeawaysLinksConnect with Leslie on LinkedInLearn more about FlexeraAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. About Matt Landman:—First the truth will upset you, but then it will set you free.I never thought I would be an activist but I guess that's life, one door closes another door opens. For me I'd worked so many different jobs and spent so much of my life in a classroom that I just wanted to get grounded and learn about growing food. I worked on a farm and there I opened my eyes for the first time to the FrankenSkies we never knew. From the day I realized something abnormal was occurring in our skies, I was driven to do something about it. Through my devotion and passion, I've realized incredible traction via social media. Our self-aggrandizing tendency to view ourselves with respect to our best days and others according to their worst moments is self-serving bias taken to an extreme. It is frequently employed because their cognitive dissonance needs prevent them from thinking rationally. Cognitive Dissonance also comes into play when we judge ourselves by our intentions, irrespective of our actions, and others by their actions, irrespective of their intentions. This helps us justify judging others in their weakest moments while we lord our best moments over others.

Tom welcomes back Matthew Pipenburg from Von Greyerz Gold Switzerland for another thoughtful swap-fest. They began by discussing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its impact on military spending, which has diverted resources away from domestic priorities like healthcare and education. They pointed out that many countries are facing significant debt issues, leading to a shift away from the US dollar as the primary reserve currency. This trend has increased interest in gold as an alternative asset for reserves. The role of gold was a key topic, with Matthew noting that while revaluing gold could offer short-term benefits but it wouldn't resolve the underlying debt crisis. Central banks, especially those in BRICS countries, have been increasing their gold holdings as a strategic reserve, reflecting growing doubts about fiat currencies. Matt criticized high military spending relative to domestic investments in the US, arguing that this imbalance is unsustainable. They also talked about central bank operations and market manipulation. Quantitative easing has led to market distortions and bubbles, while market manipulation risks eroding trust in financial systems. The conversation turned to global shifts, with BRICS countries gaining influence through their increased use of gold as a reserve asset. Tom highlighted the likelihood of significant market corrections due to high valuations and economic instability. Finally, Matthew emphasized the need for informed, fact-based discussions rather than partisan debates, urging critical thinking about government policies and encouraging engagement with diverse viewpoints from contrarian sources like Jeffrey Sachs. In this episode, 195 - Is There Something Wrong With Me?, I tackle the common narrative that there is something wrong with today's youth and young adults. I share my frustration with this perspective and explain why it can be so detrimental. The key is understanding confirmation bias - the way our brains seek to prove what we already believe to be true. When we tell someone they are broken or lacking in some way, that's all their brain will focus on. Instead, I encourage focusing on what's going right, looking towards a positive future, and lifting others up. We need to quit pointing out problems and instead empower the rising generation to see their own worth and potential. Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with you. You are a divine creation of our Heavenly Parents, and any struggles you face are part of the human experience. With the Savior's help, you can overcome anything. Let's shift the narrative and start celebrating all the amazing things young people are capable of. Now is when people will purposefully forget things, and memory becomes very selective. Every year that we are given, means more time to strengthen and shape our world. In this insightful and inspiring episode, we take a deep dive into the emotional complexities that shape our experiences as medical professionals. Drawing wisdom from Brené Brown's Atlas of the Heart, we explore how paradox, irony, sarcasm, and cognitive dissonance influence both our interactions with patients and our own well-being. We unpack the definitions of these concepts, examine their roles in clinical practice, and discuss strategies for navigating these intricate emotional dynamics with compassion and awareness. From the challenges of aligning personal values with professional recommendations to the power of rethinking and unlearning, this episode is filled with thought-provoking insights and real-life examples. Key Takeaways: Understanding Cognitive Dissonance: The mental discomfort of holding conflicting beliefs is more common than we think. Recognizing and naming our feelings can help reduce their power. Aligning personal values with professional recommendations can prevent burnout and foster integrity. Practicing non-judgmental communication builds trust and deepens patient relationships. Embracing Paradox in Medicine: Paradox exists when contradictory elements coexist, such as balancing empathy with objectivity. The "both/and" approach (instead of "either/or") can lead to more nuanced and compassionate decision-making. Cultivating comfort with ambiguity and practicing reflective listening enhances patient care. Irony in Clinical Practice: The outcome of a situation may sometimes contradict expectations, offering powerful lessons in humility and awareness. Recognizing irony thoughtfully can provide insights while fostering resilience and understanding. The Role of Sarcasm: Sarcasm can be a tool for stress relief but also has the potential to alienate others. Using humor with intention ensures it strengthens rather than weakens connections. Prioritizing clear and empathetic communication fosters stronger relationships with both colleagues and patients. Resisting Comfort Over Courage: Growth happens in discomfort—choosing to align actions with values, even when difficult, leads to personal and professional fulfillment. Learning to rethink and unlearn beliefs that no longer serve us is a powerful tool for transformation. Compassion, both for ourselves and others, is essential in the ever-evolving world of medicine. Final Thoughts:This episode challenges us to lean into discomfort, reframe our perspectives, and embrace the complexities of human emotion with curiosity and courage. By fostering awareness, practicing self-compassion, and embracing paradox, we can become more resilient and empathetic physicians, colleagues, and caregivers. References Brown, B. (2021). In episode 254 of Bros Bibles & Beer, Andy, Jeff, and Zack explore various themes including the contrast between the kingdom of God and human empires, the burden of forgiveness, and the implications of personal grooming. Don't tell us we don't have a lot of range! We also discuss the role of USAID in American foreign policy, the cognitive dissonance experienced by Christians regarding political issues, and the complexity of political perspectives. Our conversation highlights the complexities of forgiveness and the impact of personal circumstances on one's ability to forgive. They discuss the need for the church to operate without financial dependence on external entities, the definitions and conditions surrounding forgiveness, and the personal benefits of letting go of resentment. The conversation emphasizes that true forgiveness is often a selfish act (in a good way!) that ultimately benefits the forgiver, and highlights the importance of modeling behavior in teaching forgiveness to children. We share personal experiences of loss and the journey towards forgiveness, emphasizing the importance of time and support from loved ones. The discussion transitions into the nature of divine forgiveness and the misconceptions surrounding it, particularly in relation to Christian beliefs. We, well, mostly Zack challenge some traditional views of Christianity, advocating for a more authentic expression of faith that prioritizes love and personal growth over mere doctrinal adherence. Living in the multiverse - Sin is Cognitive DissonanceWebsite: http://www.battle4freedom.com/Network: https://www.mojo50.comStreaming: https://www.rumble.com/Battle4Freedomhttps://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=James%201%3A23-24&version=CJBJames 1:23-24For whoever hears the Word but doesn't do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror, who looks at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.Genesis 31:1 But then he heard what Lavan's sons were saying: "Ya'akov has taken away everything that our father once had. It's from what used to belong to our father that he has gotten so rich." 2 He also saw that Lavan regarded him differently than before. 3 Adonai said to Ya'akov, "Return to the land of your ancestors, to your kinsmen; I will be with you." Genesis 31:4 So Ya'akov sent for Rachel and Le'ah and had them come to the field where his flock was. 5 He said to them, "I see by the way your father looks that he feels differently toward me than before; but the God of my father has been with me. 6 You know that I have served your father with all my strength, 7 and that your father has belittled me and has changed my wages ten times; but God did not allow him to do me any damage. Genesis 31:8 If he said, 'The speckled will be your wages,' then all the animals gave birth to speckled young; and if he said, 'The streaked will be your wages,' then all the animals gave birth to streaked young. 9 This is how God has taken away your father's animals and given them to me. 10 Once, when the animals were mating, I had a dream: I looked up and there in front of me the male goats which mated with the females were streaked, speckled and mottled. Genesis 31:11 Then, in the dream, the angel of God said to me, 'Ya'akov!' and I replied, 'Here I am.' 12 He continued, 'Raise your eyes now, and look: all the male goats mating with the females are streaked, speckled and mottled; for I have seen everything Lavan has been doing to you. 13 I am the God of Beit-El, where you anointed a standing-stone with oil, where you vowed your vow to me. Now get up, get out of this land, and return to the land where you were born.'" Genesis 31:14 Rachel and Le'ah answered him, "We no longer have any inheritance from our father's possessions; 15 and he considers us foreigners, since he has sold us; moreover, he has consumed everything he received in exchange for us. 16 Nevertheless, the wealth which God has taken away from our father has become ours and our children's anyway; so whatever God has told you to do, do."Genesis 31:17 Then Ya'akov got up, put his sons and wives on the camels, 18 and carried off all his livestock, along with all the riches he had accumulated, the livestock in his possession which he had acquired in Paddan-Aram, to go to Yitz'chak his father in the land of Kena'an.Genesis 31:19 Now Lavan had gone to shear his sheep, so Rachel stole the household idols that belonged to her father, 20 and Ya'akov outwitted Lavan the Arami by not telling him of his intended flight. 21 So he fled with everything he had: he departed, crossed the [Euphrates] River and set out for the hill-country of Gil'ad. 22 Not until the third day was Lavan told that Ya'akov had fled.Genesis 31:23 Lavan took his kinsmen with him and spent the next seven days pursuing Ya'akov, overtaking him in the hill-country of Gil'ad. 24 But God came to Lavan the Arami in a dream that night and said to him, "Be careful that you don't say anything to Ya'akov, either good or bad."Genesis 31:25 When Lavan caught up with Ya'akov, Ya'akov had set up camp in the hill-country; so Lavan and his kinsmen set up camp in the hill-country of Gil'ad. 26 Lavan said to Ya'akov, "What do you mean by deceiving me and carrying off my daughters as if they were captives taken in war? 27 Why did you flee in secret and deceive me and not tell me? I would have sent you off with joy and singing to the music of tambourines and lyres. 28 You didn't even let me kiss my sons and daughters good-bye! What a stupid thing to do! Genesis 31:29 I have it in my power to do you harm; but the God of your father spoke to me last night and said, 'Be careful that you don't say anything to Ya'akov, either good or bad.' 30 Granted that you had to leave, because you longed so deeply for your father's house; but why did you steal my gods?" 31 Ya'akov answered Lavan, "Because I was afraid. I said, 'Suppose you take your daughters away from me by force?' 32 But if you find your gods with someone, that person will not remain alive. So with our kinsmen to witness, if you spot anything that I have which belongs to you, take it back." Ya'akov did not know that Rachel had stolen them. 33 Lavan went into Ya'akov's tent, then into Le'ah's tent and into the tent of the two slave-girls; but he did not find them. He left Le'ah's tent and entered Rachel's tent. 34 Now Rachel had taken the household gods, put them in the saddle of the camel and was sitting on them. Lavan felt all around the tent but did not find them. 35 She said to her father, "Please don't be angry that I'm not getting up in your presence, but it's the time of my period." So he searched, but he didn't find the household gods.

Thanks to a listener request, Camille and Luis discuss cognitive dissonance through the lens of somatics and parts work. Cognitive dissonance, the friction between held and opposing beliefs, can result in an uncomfortable tension. The discomfort caused by this tension is usually avoided, or even "erased".Alternatively, leaning in to the tension can be an opportunity for growth, or, an indicator of boundaries. Luis uses the example of the cognitive dissonance he experienced around being vegan, and how leaning in to the messy and painful process often results in transformation. ----You can learn more on the website: https://www.holisticlifenavigation.com/You can follow Luis on Instagram @holistic.life.navigationQuestions? Why do we double down on a decision even when all evidence points to it being the wrong choice? It's often thanks to the phenomenon known as cognitive dissonance and its companions: self-justification and memory rewriting. Social psychologist Carol Tavris explains what these words mean, how they play into decision-making, and why adults can't help but fall into this trap even as their kids get older.
