For a period of about 15 years there was no more authentic a Country music outfit in Canada than Scotty Campbell. Scotty set the bar high for Honky-Tonk up here with “his hurtin' opus”, 1999's, Damned If I Recall. After settling on a new, more permanent outfit branded as The Wardenaires, the groups experience and efforts culminated in their 2008 release, Smokin' and Drinkin'. Never one afraid to speak his mind, Scotty with his veteran band fought hard for a seat at the table. They carved out a respectable audience, consistent press and positive reviews but unfortunately still did not get the credit due as sincere performers and torch bearers of beautiful country music in Canada. Far too Country for commercial radio and more knowledgable & legit than most of their peers, the band held a long-standing residency at Toronto's Cadillac Lounge when they weren't touring the taverns, bars, honky-tonks, and festival stages all across this country. Scotty transitioned out of live performance about 10 years ago but remains a good citizen of country music. This guy knows his shit and he comes by it honestly.

Rock legend of Goddo and Cadillac Lounge owner talking Chuvalo, great music days, and good news for the El Mocambo.
Trade Song (Podcast Title) Podcast Topic: World Fiddle Day and Canadian Tunes Fiddles and string sections... For World Fiddle Day, coming Saturday May 21st... Local fiddle expert and driving force behind World Fiddle Day, Anne Lederman was kind enough to drop by. She talked about fiddle styles across Canada, at least from Newfoundland to Manitoba. Anne also recorded hundreds of Metis fiddle tunes on multiple occasions in the 1980s. Before the show we talked briefly about some of the hassles of preserving taped music, a topic I hope we might discuss some other time. On a taping related note, I described one Gaspe fiddler, renowned locally, especially in his native Douglastown. Erskine Morris recorded himself playing around Douglastown and the Gaspe peninsula from the late fifties to the early nineties. He played dances, parties, family reunions, all sorts of shows, and his wife copied his tapes and mailed to friends and fans of old time Gaspe fiddling. Copies of These tapes are scattered around the continent, providing many people with a taste of authentic old time fiddling. These tapes never seem to have been collected per se, at least not by date- obsessed completists who collect other styles of live recorded music. I suspect there is a vast trove of small- f folk music, informally recorded, which never circulated too far beyond the makers of the music and one wonders what great and / or interesting music might be waiting for more people to discover it. There is some confusion about some of the songs titles played, as the tracks were often untitled on the material availed to me for this edition of Veritable Infusion. Track list- Jughead- Wabash Cannonball, Ace of Spades- Jughead played a rare one-off gig Sunday at the Cadillac Lounge with the Good Family. Good times... Rufus Guinchard- Lizzie's Jig - from the French West Coast of Newfoundland Colin Grant- Tune for Jerry - Cape Breton fiddling Ti'Jean Carrignan- a couple of instrumentals including the Duke of Lengster Shane Cook and Jake Charron- from Ontario Anne Lederman- live in the studio- the Cry of the Loon (Grandy) and The Trade Song & Bacon Ridge (Grandy)- Anne and I also talked between songs, she worked in a few fiddle demonstrations and explained the differences between reels and jigs... Metis fiddle archive box- disc 1 track 1 Jarvis Benoit- Daisy And now we leave Canada for... The Earl Scruggs Revue- Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven... live, Sept. '72, feat. vassal Clements on fiddle- Showdown- The Devil Went Down to Georgia- Alberta style! David Allen Coe- The Devil Went Down to Jamaica- love the art hate the artist Bo Diddley- Gunslinger, Eastern Thang- Bo live with a fiddle in an experrymental mood in San Francisco, 1966 P-Funk All Stars- Never Gonna Tell It feat. Lilly Hayden, live France 2005 Funk Brothers- Papa Was a Rolling Stone- Instrumental- the string section uncredited... But what a string arrangement on this classic! New Brunswick's MIKE LEBLANC brought his traditional country sound to the Cadillac Lounge this spring as part of Canadian Music Week. He played songs off his album Alive And Well. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Mike moved at a young age - along with his family - to a small town called Collette, NB. Growing up, there was always music playing in the house or people jamming with their guitars and other instruments. Mike's first public appearance was at 7 years old in church. He didn't know he could sing back then but his teacher knew right away. At 15, Mike entered a local singing contest and took everyone by surprise with his covers of songs by Randy Travis. From that point on, he was frequently asked to do amateur shows and house parties. When he reached the age of 17, he joined his first band and played all over the province and into the U.S. In 1999, he packed his instruments and his clothes and headed towards Calgary, Alberta to see what the music industry had to offer there. He was hired by a band called Uptown Riders three days upon his arrival to the big city. The band toured all over Western Canada for a few years. In 2011, Mike's songwriting went into high gear. In this period, he wrote songs such as "When I'm Good" and "We Lived On" which were the first songs to be created for the album Alive and Well. His influences range from George Jones to Merle Haggard to Waylon Jennings to Travis Tritt. You can hear those influences in the way he sings a country song.

He has been a featured guest on several television programs such as Canada in the Rough, Fins and Skins, The Red Green Show, Go Riding and Snowmobiler TV. Tune in to hear Larry's latest single and learn more about his new album and plans for 2015. WENDY LYNN SNIDER Country artist Wendy Lynn Snider was born & raised in the beautiful surroundings of Temagami, Ontario. She grew up in a musical family listening to Christian and classic Country performed by artists like Waylon Jennings, Johnny & June Carter Cash, and Patsy Cline. As she grew up, through all the twists and turns life brings, she kept singing and songwriting and sharing her gift. In 2010, she re-connected with high school friend and long-time music industry person Michael Peters. He encouraged her to record another CD and brought in popular Country artist Thomas Wade to produce the album. Wendy has just finished recording a brand new album and she's here to tell us all about it.

Coming from a rural childhood and having a love of music from an early age, Burlington, Ontario based Country artist BILLY J WHITE is blazing his own trail in the Canadian country music scene with the release of his new EP DAMN FOOL THING TO DO. The album consisting of seven tracks, with two currently at radio nationwide, was recorded and produced by multi-award winning and highly sought after producer Tom McKillip. The first single, Saturday Night, was released in October 2013. The co-written, hook laden song resonates a pleasure that we’ve all lived and loved at least one time in our life; the night that bars and clubs are filled with people letting their hair down, hitting the dance floor and forgetting their troubles. The song is nominated for CMAO Single of the Year at this year's awards show (2014) in May. The new single is called Keep Them Kisses Comin'. Nominated for CMAO Male Artist of the Year in 2013, Billy has lit up stages with his high energy “keep rockin’ it country style” performances. He has opened for The Stellas, Deric Ruttan, Gil Grand, Tim Taylor, and Diane Chase and performed at Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival, Manitoulin Country Fest, Country in the Woods, NSAI Tin Pan North, and Ontario based fairs. Billy performs once again this year (May 8th) at the Cadillac Lounge during Canadian Music Week. Visit this talented country artist at www.billyjwhite.com
