In this episode, Terri Clark shares her story of being a cancer caregiver for twelve years, first with her son Cody, and six months later with her husband Adrian.  After their deaths, Terri continues to grow and learn new ways to adjust to her new reality, and she offers wonderful guidance and advice about grief, loss, and hope. " It's okay to be sad, it's okay to be disappointed, it's okay to be even a little bit mad... but it's not okay to live sad and live disappointed and live angry... you can't live in it, it will consume you."  Another parcel of wisdom from Terri is to "try and find one thing that you can see that God has helped you with and it will start making the biggest difference in your life." If you are experiencing difficult trials in your life, this final gem of wisdom may be just what you needed to hear... "Know that you were made to do hard things, and one day your gonna be on the other side of this and you'll be able to look back and know God has seen you through it." Enjoy!

Kent Blazy is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His credits include several singles for Garth Brooks, as well as singles by Gary Morris, Diamond Rio, Patty Loveless and Chris Young. He has a total of seven number one hits to his credit. In 1982, Gary Morris took "Headed for a Heartache" to number 5 on the charts. In the years that followed other artists, such as The Forrester Sisters, T. Graham Brown, Donna Fargo and Moe Bandy recorded Kent's tunes. In 1987, Kent was introduced to a new demo singer by Bob Doyle, then with ASCAP, soon to be the manager for this emerging talent, Garth Brooks. Garth became Kent's most requested demo singer and Bob Doyle also advised, “Garth writes a little bit too.” The first song Garth and Kent penned together was "If Tomorrow Never Comes" which became the first number one song for both. The friendship and writing partnership continued as Garth included eight more of their songs on his albums. Four more of theirs songs captured the number one slot: "Somewhere Other Than the Night", "Ain't Goin' Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)", "It's Midnight Cinderella", and "She's Gonna Make It.” Brooks continued to record Blazy's material throughout the 1990s, including the singles “Cold Shoulder” and the George Jones duet “Beer Run (B Double E Double Are You In?).” He also co-wrote “That's What I Get for Lovin' You” by Diamond Rio and “Can't Get Enough” by Patty Loveless in the late 1990s. Kent's songwriting continues with established writing partnerships, as well as developing partnerships with new writers and artists. Many of his crafted works continue to be recorded by artists such as Diamond Rio, Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, Clay Walker, Patty Loveless, Julie Roberts, Andy Griggs and Blaine Larsen, a new recording artist on RCA. Kent's latest #1 hit is Gettin' You Home (The Black Dress Song), recorded by Chris Young. Kent also has the title track on Reba's latest CD "All The Women I Am" It's also the name of her tour, tv special and her exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Also, look for Kent's latest cuts from Randy Houser "The Power of a Song" on Randy's latest CD. And "Empty Beer Cans" on Jon Pardi's album "Write You A Song". The C.L.I.M.B. What A Weekend! I've just returned from the 97 South Song Sessions, where a group of Rockit clients joined me in Penticton British Columbia for a Rockit Roadtrip! In this episode I talk about the event as well as my biggest take aways from the Song To Stage workshop where we learned from 18x CCMA music publisher of the year and 4x Grammy winning music publisher, Robert Ott. We were also joined by Tim Nichols, who has written hits for artists like Alan Jackson for whom he penned the top hit “That'd Be Alright”, Reba McEntire, Keith Whitley, LeeAnn Womack, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean. He also penned Dustin Lynch's charttopper, Cowboys and Angels.  His #1 hits include JoDee Messina's"Heads Carolina, Tails California", Terri Clark's “Girls Lie Too”,and homage to the aforementioned - “She Had Me At Heads Carolina” for Cole Swindell.     Rik Emmet also shared stories and songs at the Storyteller Icon session, which didn't get me feeling too emotional until I recorded this episode and reflected on how beautiful it was and how important it is to share your voice as a singer. In this episode we dig into the importance of sharing your songs with the world, removing psychological blocks as a singer and allowing the joy to flow through you and your music. Why making connections and building a genuine community with great artists and industry professionals is so important. I share why this weekend was so important and impactful to me as a singer and songwriter and talk about the amazing music and stories we heard from Tim Nichols, Wendell Mobley, Jamie O'Neal Paul Brandt and Lee Thomas Miller on the "Spotlight on Nashville" stage. Over on the Discovery stage we heard music from Teigen Gayse Dan Davidson Cole Bradley Sykamore What an incredible weekend it was. Thank you to the entire 97 South Songs team for making it so special. This episode is in no way endorsed by 97 South Songs, I just love the event so much and will continue to share about it until everyone who deserves to know about it, has heard about how great it is!
