MONCTON, November 8, 2025 In a rapidly changing and uncertain world, Canada's new government is focused on what we can control. We are protecting our communities and our country. We are building our economy with major projects and millions more homes. We are empowering Canadians with lower costs and new opportunities to help you get ahead. We cannot control what other countries do, but we can control what we choose to build, and we are building Canada Strong. Culture is a powerful driver of innovation and inclusion, strengthening both our economy and our identity. In the face of global challenges, culture brings Canadians together, nurturing national pride and preserving the vitality of our communities. Today, David Myles, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages and to the Secretary of State (Nature) and Member of Parliament (Fredericton–Oromocto), announced $277,200 in support for the Réseau atlantique de diffusion des arts de la scène (RADARTS) through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. This investment will allow the organization to fund the programming of FrancoFête en Acadie for the period from 2026 to 2029. FrancoFête en Acadie, currently underway until November 9, is the flagship event of RADARTS. This annual French-language event, which is holding its 29th edition in 2025, takes place over five days and brings together around 500 Francophone cultural stakeholder. To highlight the investments in culture in Budget 2025, Parliamentary Secretary Myles took part in activities at FrancoFête en Acadie and met with various members of the arts and culture sector in southeast New Brunswick. He visited the Pays de la Sagounine in Bouctouche, the new modern and accessible outdoor amphitheatre for the performing arts at Highland Park in Salisbury, and the Atlantic Ballet of Canada in Moncton. This week, the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, announced Budget 2025 investments in culture totalling $503 million over four years, starting in 2026-27, in sectors such as the arts, multimedia, journalism, and national celebrations. He made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue. Canada's artists, creators and cultural entrepreneurs are at the heart of our creative economy. Budget 2025 proposes new investments to grow Canada's creative industries and ensure our national cultural institutions remain strong, resilient and successful. This includes support for Telefilm Canada, the Canada Media Fund, the National Film Board, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Budget 2025 also proposes funding to help Canadian talent succeed in an increasingly digital and global marketplace, including through the Canada Music Fund. Culture is experienced locally, in our towns, neighbourhoods, and public spaces. Budget 2025 proposes targeted support to strengthen community identity and participation through experiences and celebrations in every region of Canada. This includes support for local festivals, community anniversaries and community-initiated capital projects through the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program, and for professionally presented arts festivals or performing arts series through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund. Budget 2025 also proposes funding for communities to celebrate Canada Day and National Acadian Day. In addition, Budget 2025 proposes to provide $150 million in funding to support the modernization of CBC/Radio-Canada's mandate and strengthen its mandate and better deliver for Canadians in both French and English. Additionally, Budget 2025 also proposes to provide $116.3 million to renew the Canada Strong Pass for the holiday season, from December 12, 2025, to January 15, 2026, and for summer 2026. This will provide families and young people free or discounted access to national parks, museums, galleries, and rail travel. Together, those investments are key to protecting Canada's cultural sovereignty, strengthening our economy, and building Canada strong. Quotes When we invest in our culture, we invest in ourselves, and in our capacity to tell our own stories. Across the country, our artists, creators and creative industries fuel innovation, create jobs, and strengthen our economy. In a time of uncertainty, we must protect our cultural sovereignty and help Canadian talent thrive at home and around the world. Budget 2025 meets the moment, positioning Canada's creative economy for growth, competitiveness and stability.” —The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages “At a time with a shifting global economy and rapid technological change, the Government of Canada is committed to supporting cultural workers and strengthening our arts and culture sectors. These measures reflect a clear vision of a strong, united and resilient Canada, where our way of life is protected, celebrated and passed on to future generations.” —The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue “Through the new Budget, our government continues to support initiatives that promote the Francophonie across the country and especially here in Atlantic Canada. The funding provided to RADARTS will allow an even greater number of artists and local presenters to work together and offer quality cultural experiences. This is how we're helping build Canada Strong, where the arts play an essential role in the life of our communities.” —David Myles, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages and to the Secretary of State (Nature) and Member of Parliament (Fredericton–Oromocto) “We welcome the renewal of additional funds for the Canada Arts Presentation Fund and the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in the recent federal budget. This renewal for the next three years will allow presenters in Atlantic Canada to better plan their events and their upcoming artistic seasons. We are grateful for the Department's commitment to providing support for the entire performing arts sector.” —Jacinthe Comeau, Executive Director, RADARTSBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/policy-and-rights--3339563/support.

In this inspiring episode, Eric Thompson welcomes Martin “Marty” Gallant, the Managing Partner and Broker at Creativ Realty in Moncton, New Brunswick. Marty shares the incredible story of how his company achieved a remarkable 72% growth in volume and nearly doubled its agent count from 25 to 42 in just two years, all within a smaller market of under 600 agents. Marty attributes this rapid success to a strong focus on company culture, which prioritizes agent well-being, teamwork over competition, and comprehensive, open-to-all training. He details their innovative "Mission Momentum" program, a gamified internal challenge that significantly boosts agent engagement and productivity. Beyond brokerage-wide initiatives, Marty also reveals his personal strategy for managing a thriving real estate business while overseeing a growing company: niching down his personal sphere to a "VIP list" of 72 key clients for highly focused, impactful service. This is one episode that is absolutely packed with actionable insights for any real estate professional looking to foster growth and increase efficiency. Episode Highlights: Marty's company saw 72% growth and doubled its agent count (25 to 42) in a small market over two years. Success is built on a strong culture of teamwork and comprehensive, open training for all. "Mission Momentum," a gamified internal challenge with weekly behavior-based missions, drove 85% agent engagement. Creativ Realty offers a free, 21-module training program, open to the entire market, reflecting a "Go-Giver" philosophy. Marty manages his personal business by focusing on a VIP list of 72 clients, providing highly dedicated service. This niche strategy, inspired by the "magic wand" question, enhances efficiency, reduces stress, and maintains volume. Key Takeaways: "We want to make it the best place possible for agents to work." "Everyone's one degree of separation away from each other. So those personal relationships go a lot further." "Culture was always number one." "If they do the behaviors - and it's very much a Ninja Nine - it will lead to results." "Letting yourself down is one thing, but letting down your team is a totally different thing." "The way to do it is to get teams of people focused on activities that will then lead to the results that you want." "If you could wave your magic wand, what would it look like? And then just start yourself on a path to do that." Le Château was a fashion fixture across shopping malls in Canada during its heyday in the 1970s and '80s. Founder Herschel Segal, a Montrealer who recently died, is credited with bringing bell-bottom jeans to the masses—and later helping to launch the David's Tea brand. Segal is one of the five prominent Canadian Jewish leaders we've lost since this spring, and whose larger-than-life achievements left a clear mark on the community. Today, we honour those men and women with another episode of our recurring podcast series, Honourable Menschen. Also in today's show: Larry Robbins, 94, known affectionately as “Zaidy Larry”, was one of the original founders of Toronto real estate development giant Great Gulf Homes. In his later years, he pivoted from putting up private homes to helping young people develop stronger ties with their Jewish identity. Elly Bollegraaf, of Ottawa, started life as a hidden child in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands, before becoming a scientist and well-known Holocaust educator in Canada. David Attis rose to fame when he took on a notorious Holocaust denier who was a teacher in the school system of Moncton, New Brunswick. And Rabbi Mordechai Feuerstein, 78, spent many years as the spiritual leader of Vancouver's Orthodox Congregation Schara Tzedeck synagogue, maintaining close ties with the Reform Jews who once shared the building. On today's episode of Honourable Menschen on North Star (formerly The CJN Daily), host Ellin Bessner is joined by The CJN's obituary columnist, Heather Ringel, to share their personal encounters with these prominent community members. As part of our summer series on spiritual disciplines, this conversation focuses on the power of student-led prayer and how it's transforming lives, schools, and churches across multiple denominations. You'll hear firsthand how a youth camp, a student's quiet prayer walk, and a desire to invite God into their school has led to hundreds of students gathering weekly, forming leadership teams, praying audacious prayers, and even seeing classmates come to faith and get baptized. But it's not just about the fame and the music—this episode is a love letter to legacy, resilience, and the unshakable bond between a father and daughter. If you've ever felt the pull of a dream, questioned whether you could really be yourself in the world, or wanted a good laugh (and maybe a few tears), this one's for you. It's nostalgic, deeply human, and full of heart.

Welcome to a special series of Art Pays Me interviews with the winners of the 2024 Creative Nova Scotia Awards. Presented annually by Arts Nova Scotia and the Creative Nova Scotia Leadership Council, these awards celebrate artistic excellence across Mi'kma'ki. This would not be possible without the fantastic production work of Heist and Keke Beatz. On this episode I spoke with Emerging Artist Award recipient, Susanne Chui. A central figure in Halifax's contemporary dance community, Susanne became Co-Artistic Director of Mocean Dance in 2012. With Mocean, Susanne has developed roles in works by Heidi Strauss, Serge Bennathan, Tedd Robinson, Lesandra Dodson and Claire French, and co-created Burnwater: Alchemy with Erin Donovan (Hear Here Productions). Susanne trained professionally at the School of Toronto Dance Theatre and was based in Toronto from 1999-2007. During that time she danced for many independent choreographers and extensively with Yvonne Ng, with whom she toured to Singapore in 2005. She was a founding member of TILT: sound + motion dance company, where she had the pleasure of performing works by some of Canada's finest choreographers including, Robert Abubo, Marie-Julie Asselin, Bill Coleman, Lesandra Dodson, Deborah Dunn, Sasha Ivanochko, Sharon Moore, and Heidi Strauss. Since returning to Halifax, Susanne has become immersed in the dance community collaborating with dance artists Jacinte Armstrong, Lesandra Dodson, Veronique MacKenzie, Gwen Noah Dance, Phin Performing Arts, as well as with SiNS, a collective she co-founded in 2005 with Jacinte Armstrong and Sara Coffin. Susanne collaborates across disciplines, working regularly with master musician Jerry Granelli and teaching at Creative Music Workshop, an annual improvisation-based summer program. As a choreographer she has received funding from Canada Council for the Arts and Arts Nova Scotia and her works have been presented in Moncton, Toronto and in Halifax by Kinetic Studio and the TD Halifax Jazz Festival. She was the first recipient of Kinetic Studio's Explorations Choreographic Scholarship and was the 2012 recipient of the Diane Moore Creation Scholarship. In 2016 she received the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia's Masterworks Award, for her role as a dancer in Mocean's Canvas 5 x 5, choreographed by Tedd Robinson. An active arts manager, Susanne has worked in various roles in the arts community. She has served on the boards of Live Art Dance Productions, Kinetic Studio and the Legacy Centre for the Performing Arts, and participated on various committees and juries including Arts Nova Scotia, City of Halifax, Nova Scotia Talent Trust and the Canadian Dance Assembly. Episode 345: In December 2015, the quiet city of Moncton, New Brunswick, was shaken to its core by a brutal crime that would leave an indelible mark on the community. Eighteen-year-old Baylee Wylie was found dead in a burned-out townhouse, the victim of a horrific murder that shocked residents and sparked a manhunt for those responsible. Three young people who Baylee thought were his friends were ultimately charged for their roles in Wylie's death: Marissa Shephard, 20 at the time, along with Devin Morningstar and Tyler Noel, both 18. The gruesome nature of the crime - Baylee had been tied to a chair, beaten, and stabbed approximately 200 times - sent shockwaves through Moncton. The murder and subsequent trials captivated the region, with media coverage detailing the drug-fueled night that ended in tragedy. The community grappled with the senseless loss of a young life and the disturbing actions of the perpetrators. In this episode, we'll explore the events leading up to that fateful night, the impact on Baylee's family and the wider Moncton community, and the following quest for justice. Join us as we examine one of the most notorious crimes in recent New Brunswick history. Sources: 2017 NBQB 7 (CanLII) | R v. Morningstar | CanLII 2017 NBCA 39 (CanLII) | Morningstar v.
