Immerse yourself in Californian subcultures with the founder of Period Correct, Bryan Calvero, in this illuminating episode of Partners in Time. Having built a successful brand out of his personal passion for car culture, Bryan tells IWC CEO Chris Grainger-Herr how the desire to be different has defined him since childhood. Following the opening of Period Correct's new flagship space in sun-soaked Los Angeles, Bryan and Chris discuss their shared appreciation for form, mechanics, and engineering, and share the stories of their first watches and first cars, as well as more recent adventures on two wheels. Listen to this episode of Partners In Time to find out how a model car unexpectedly brought the pair together some years earlier, and why Bryan believes life is as much about enjoying the journey as it is about reaching the next level. On this week's episode Cam, Isaiah, and Brevin talk to Gabe Leibowitz, otherwise known as Calvero or @calvero_sings on TikTok! Clvero is a musician/content creator that has found an audience on TikTok and uses his newfound platform to connect his fans to his story like few other musicians are savvy enough to do. We bend his ear about his journey as a musician, defining "success", and being an artist in a capitalist social structure. We also dig into the recent doings of Universal Music Group to highlight the exploitation of musicians in the entertainment industry.

Calvero—aka my former roommate Gabe Liebowitz—is a singer, pop songwriter, producer, and lover of therapy. We talk about the damages capitalism, hustle culture, and young success narratives have done to those of us looking for long and sustainable creative careers. He also shares a memory of working together with his late producer and friend Max Perenchio on a formative Calvero song. Continuing the Calvero Origins series, we backtrack a few years before the previous episode. I was taking a break from nonstop touring and was beginning to make some serious changes as a person. I was also starting to explore what else I could be in the music world outside of a "dude in a band." This is the story of how I went down the road of learning the crafts of studio work and being a co-writer for other artists. I learned a new way to sing & completely fell in love w/ pop music. It was a wonderful, formative time & I'll be forever grateful for the people who helped steer me in that direction, and for the people that knew me back in a more troubled time who were patient & tough and understanding and stuck w/ me. For this first episode, I tell the story of how I got the name Calvero. More importantly, it's the story of a time in my life when I truly questioned whether or not it might be the end of the road for me and my music career, and why I decided to keep going. Calvero is a poet whose work veers from place to place. It is crass, even silly one moment, then the next, it is nestling into a tender spot you never thought it would fit in. His metaphors become characters, his plots are hyperbole, but his characters seem to always find their way back to the familiar, somtimes touching or painful places, and I think you'll be surprised by where your sympathies lie. Calvero has a book of poetry available, Someday I'm Going to Marry Katy Perry from University of Hell press. His work has appeared in Hobart, Metazen, Unreality House, Salt Hill Journal and pressboardpress. You can follow him on Twitter (@CalveroHasCats) and on his tumblr, www.calveropoetry.tumblr.com.
