Hello, dear listeners. Despondent that the Kingmaker Histories isn't currently releasing? Of course you are. But luckily, there's an easy fix for that. During our between-season break, we're going to be sharing a few audio dramas with you that we think you'll really, really love. This month we're sharing Eeler's Choice by Lou Sutcliffe and Daisy McNamara. "No respect for the sea, for the living things in it, for what's owed. They're fishing in the eel breeding grounds now, the fools." Eeler's Choice is a maritime horror fantasy podcast set in Eskmouth, a small coastal town whose economy has lived and died on the hunting of the Great Eels for generations. As demand for product has increased, so have the catches... but even the generosity of the sea has its limits, and all debts must come due. Donate to their crowdfunder here
Adam Binnie is joined by Gemma Fay and John Walker to reflect on an eventful opening Premiership matchday of 2025. They assess the action in the first Old Firm of the year with Asim Rabbani from A Celtic State of Mind and discuss United's late win in the Dundee derby and the continuation of Aberdeen's winless streak. And, with the games coming thick and fast, they also look ahead to the weekend's fixtures.
Major Garrett of CBS News joins Chad with great insight on the current events in politics, the best spots to go while visiting Washington DC, his salty attitude towards the neighbors in his building and more.

A prayer for help when feeling despondent. Heman is a man identified in 1 Kings 4:31 as a gifted wise man and in 1 Chronicles 15:16-19 as one of the musically gifted Levites who ministered in worship during the time of David. Even amid despair, Heman confesses his faith in God's saving goodness. Heman's life had not been an easy one and now it had grown even more difficult, and he felt that death was very near. But he did not give up! He still trusted in God, whom he addressed as "LORD" — Jehovah four times in this prayer. Remember God will never leave you nor forsake you. Trust Him. Pete Hobbs fronted User, a power trio that also featured future Razorlight star Andy Burrows on drums. Everyone had high hopes for I Can't Love You Anymore. East West records put them in the studio with The Stone Roses producer Paul Schroeder and they even won a TV talent show performing it. A record deal was arranged, Abbey Road studios was booked and success seemed inevitable. But dramatically.... everything fell through at the last minute. Their manager went to prison and the label folded the day before they were due to go into Abbey Road. Despondent and shell shocked, Pete went back to the drawing board, eventually finding success with The Boy Least Likely To. Until the summer of 2023, Pete had totally forgotten about the song "I Can't Love You Anymore". But his Mum, responding to a “Any requests?” post he put out on instagram, asked him to perform it again. It got him thinking. First he thought it would be a nice thing to do for his Mum and step Dad, it had always been one of their favourites. Then he added it to his live set and started developing and updating it and in the process totally reconnected with the song and who he was when he wrote it. “It's very strange to go back and inhabit something you created 25 years ago. Much more emotional than I had anticipated. It's almost impossible not to compare myself now to who I was then. Have I done ok? Have I achieved what I set out to? What would the younger me think of me now? I Can't Love You Anymore was released on 3rd Nov 2023, Pete now uses the moniker Diving At Dawn.... Graham catches up with him for My Music

Rob has also held a number of health, safety and environmental roles, however over the last 10 years, Rob has watched the ‘safety industry' go from non-existent in some sectors to a bureaucratic burden in others with layers of administration that add little value. Despondent with corporate zero harm fallacies, tracking metrics and low trust leadership models, Rob sought out a new way of ‘doing' safety and the results speak for themselves but in doing so has realised that this has very little to do with safety. Energyworks also won the inaugural Safety II category at the National Health and Safety awards last year and as a result have been instrumental in taking the lead in removing health and safety from the vocabulary. Rob believes that every person can undertake growth personally and professionally in the right environment. Rob's approach revolves around the principle that workers are not the problem but the solution so we need to ensure our people are at the core of decision making. Chapter 18 of Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (1991) (EU: 9 ABY) by Timothy Zahn. The Story So FarGrand Admiral Thrawn is leading the Imperial remnants from the shadows in a grand plan to destroy the New Republic and re-establish the Galactic Empire. Luke Skywalker was on his way to meet Joruus C'Baoth, whom Luke believes will be able to help him rebuild the Jedi Order. However, the Jedi Master is actually a Dark Jedi clone in league with the Grand Admiral. Luke is ambushed by Thrawn en route, but in the escape his X-Wing fails, leaving him stranded in deep space. Despondent, he enters a Jedi hibernation, delegating R2 to perform the tedious repairs to the subspace radio so that they might hail much needed help.Leia Organa Solo and Chewbacca head to the wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk seeking sanctuary. Leia spots a conspicuous alien face, which she recognises as one of the assailants from Bimmissari. The wookiees are ready to defend her, but are unable to verify her sighting. Undeterred, they are vigilant for any sign of treachery. Han and Lando venture solo to both act as decoy for Leia's whereabouts and in the hope of making contact with the aloof smuggling lord, Talon Karrde. Karrde has shown time and time again to seek value beyond credits and has taken on a new apprentice, Mara Jade. He is keen to uncover her mysterious past, along with what value may be mined from such knowledge. Chapter 18Luke is roused by R2 from his Jedi hibernation as an unfamiliar ship approaches, which identifies itself as the Wild Karrde. Stranded in deep space with no alternatives, they accept passage to an undisclosed location. Luke is taken to meet the ship's captain, Talon Karrde. Karrde is unimpressed with Luke's appearance, and directs his attention to the cockpit where Luke senses the bitter, black hate hidden within Mara Jade. Luke is unable to explain her contempt for him, nor provide any other information that Karrde deems valuable. Suddenly, Karrde rewards Luke's lack of caution with a stun bolt, succeeding where Thrawn's Noghri had failed; in capturing the Last of the Jedi. May 21, 2023Today's Reading: John 17:1-11Daily Lectionary: Numbers 14:1-25, Luke 18:18-34John 17:11: “And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.”In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Why does it feel so good to lament the decline of civilization? It seems like a solid 80% of the conversations I have with Christians involve some sort of complaint about the world. Why does it feel so good to think there's nothing we can do about it but say “I told you so” in the face of calamity? Maybe it's because quitting feels easier. Or because when we are powerless to circumstance, it might be our problem but at least it's not our fault. Even with Christ who is risen from the grave, Christians aren't just sad but despondent. Hopeless. That's worse than sad. Sadness can keep fighting. Keep struggling. But when there's no hope, when the world is insurmountable, why bother? Hopelessness creeps into every part of life. Relationships feel broken and unfixable. Anxieties pile up and can't be conquered. Illnesses are terminal and can't be cured. This is what giving up feels like. And it feels good. Despondency feels good. Complaining about the world feels good. If you couldn't have won anyway, you can be dragged into the same sins you lament in the world, the same culture you decry, but with a superior attitude and “I told you so” on your lips. Despondent people build altars to their own emptiness and turn the church into something that looks like it's dying too. Do you know how pitiful it is to quit something the Lord has already won the victory over? Repent of your hopelessness. Repent of your politics and the despair they bring you. Hear Jesus pray a prayer for glory and fully expect it to be answered by the Father with a cross. Know that this cross is for you. To forgive you your sins. To save you from a world destined to decay. Cling to the resurrection and the promise it yields. Nothing that falls apart won't be put back together. Christ died on the cross to save sinners. To save you. To save those in the world. The world itself may fall apart. But you are already rescued, as surely as He is risen. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.O King of glory, Lord of hosts, uplifted in triumph far above all heavens, leave us not without consolation but send us the Spirit of truth whom You promised from the Father; for You live and reign with Him and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. -Pastor Harrison Goodman is Content Executive for Higher Things.Audio Reflections Speaker: Jonathan Lackey is an LCMS seminarian.Study Christ's words on the cross to see how you can show more Christlike grace in your life. A new MP3 sermon from The Narrated Puritan is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Counsel For the Despondent Christian Subtitle: The Narrated Puritan - T M S Speaker: A. W. Pink Broadcaster: The Narrated Puritan Event: Audio Book Date: 9/3/2022 Length: 7 min.
Between 2004 and 2014, in the US National Parks alone, there were 46,609 individuals who became lost and required a search and rescue campaign, which cost about $51.4 million in total (Federal Bureau of Investigation. 2018 NCIC Missing Person and Unidentified Person Statistics. Tech. Rep., National Crime Information Center). What are characteristics of lost persons and who has the discretion and authority to commit agency resources to find them? ROBERT KOESTER: LOST PERSON BEHAVIOR. The scientific study of lost person cases to identify patterns specific to characteristics, such as age groups, disability, dementia, and so on began in the mid 1970s with Bill Syrotuck. In 2008, however, Robert Koester revolutionized search and rescue with his book, Lost Person Behavior - A Search and Rescue Guide on Where to Look - for Land, Air, and Water. He not only developed 41 categories of being “lost,” but coupled those to passage of time and terrain. LOST PERSON BEHAVIOR APP (It's Not Free!). The US Dept. of Homeland Security released a Lost Person App in 2015 based on data from over 150,000 missing person cases. The app provides guidance on over 40 scenarios including lost hikers, children, and dementia patients. The app is available on Amazon for $9.95 from dbS Productions LLC.The app doesn't require a network connection so can be used anywhere. 13 FACTS ABOUT LOST PERSON BEHAVIOR. The following 13 facts are from Karen Hume's blog post on May 17, 2017 found at https://profoundjourney.com/13-facts-lost-person-behaviour/ (1) It is a myth that we panic when lost. Instead, most of us experience shock, disbelief, and embarrassment. (2) Many people experience an irrational belief that no one is looking for them. When that happens, they don't call out. Some even ignore a helicopter flying overhead. (3) Hansel and Gretel may have benefited from leaving a trail of breadcrumbs, but it's not a good sign when a lost person leaves a trail of clothing or equipment. Rather, it's an unfortunate indicator of either late stage hypothermia or exhaustion. (4) Fifty percent of searches resolve within three hours. (5) Fifty-four per cent of people are found within two miles of the point where they were last seen. (6) Hikers tend to become lost if the trail is obscured or if there are confusing trails that intersect. Rescuers do a map and terrain analysis to determine where the confusing spots are so they can look there first. (7) Hunters become lost because they are focused on game rather than navigation or time of day. If caught after dark, the typical hunter will build a shelter and then proudly walk out of the woods, unassisted, at daybreak. (8) Despondent people typically don't travel very far. If suicidal, they hide from search teams. Despondent people are often found at the interface between two types of terrain, such as a cliff edge, or along a shoreline. (9) Lost adults will usually stay on a trail, however they may climb a hill to get a view of the area. They rarely travel in a straight line, and rarely reverse direction. (10) Children, on the other hand, look for familiar spots rather than trails. They can't judge either direction or distance and tend to move randomly. (11) Young people of ages 13-15 often become lost in groups of two or more. Youth in a group rarely travel very far from where they were last seen. (12) Children, ages 1-3, look for the most convenient location to lie down and are, as a result, very difficult to detect. A little bit older, ages 4-6, and one of the big problems is that they won't answer rescuers' calls because they've been taught to avoid strangers. (13) Berry pickers, nature photographers, and rock hounds are often inadequately clothed or equipped. Rescuers try to put themselves in the lost person's shoes, asking questions such as, “Where do the best berries grow?” HOW TO GET FOUND. (1) Stop: As soon as you realize you may be lost: stop, stay calm, stay put. (2) Think: Go over in your mind how you got to where you are. What landmarks should you be able to see? Do not move at all until you have a specific reason to take a step. (3) Observe: If you are on a trail, stay on it. Blow a whistle. (4) Plan: Inventory your options and determine if you can act to get yourself to a more favorable optimum. DO SCHOOLS TRAIN FOR LOST STUDENTS? In my experience, schools don't conduct lost-student drills or exercises. There are accounts of students with autism, for example, wandering from schools. In February, 2022, an 8-year-old boy with autism wandered away from school and walked home alone (ClickonDetroit, 2022). Children with autism might exhibit a diminished sense of fear of traffic and environmental hazards. SAFETY DOC WEBSITE, BLOG & BOOKS: www.safetyphd.com. Jason and Fearless contributor Shemeka Michelle spent the first hour of the show discussing the impact of the free-speech “climate change” Elon Musk sparked over at Twitter. Based on the reactions of social-media activist Shaun King and MSNBC host Joy Reid, climate change could destroy the racial grift of the Democratic Party. Jason and Shemeka viciously and hilariously dissected the left's response to an African-American billionaire purchasing Twitter. Jason complained that Twitter BE (before Elon) amplified ignorance more than it silenced dissent, pointing to the glorification of dead local rappers (Nipsey Hussle and Young Dolph), average journalists (Jemele Hill), and white supremacists disguised as black men (Shaun King). Shemeka said Twitter BE promoted a culture of death. Jason finished the hour explaining why Musk must move Twitter headquarters out of Northern California if he's serious about changing Twitter. Plus, Uncle Jimmy and Jason debated Kyrie Irving's approval rating after Irving's Nets bowed out of the NBA playoffs without a single victory.
