It turns out Peter and Joseph are *not* the only nerds watching Trek and sharing their thoughts about it online! From across the pond we interview actor and author Tom Salinsky on his new book "Star Trek: Discovering the TV Series", wherein Tom documents his first own Trek thoughts and reviews. We dig deep on all the big questions: How did British people manage to watch Trek back in the day? Is the Motion Picture really that long? And was Captain Jellico right the whole time? Tune in for a great conversation, and buy Tom's book at the link below! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Discovering-Original-Generation/dp/1399035045

Fatherhood in TrekIn recognition of the recent Father's Day holiday, the trio examine the dads in Trek - both the characters who were actual dads and the ones who had parental (or grandparental) qualities. Which Trek dad would you like to have taken you to a ballgame? Or have an adventure with? Which Trek dads would take part in the local Starfleet branch of a dad's group, and what would they talk about? And does Captain Jellico being a loving granddad make up for his being an ornery captain? Let us know your favorite Trek dad!

Es ist Clipshowzeit! Wir lernen Captain Jellico, halt, falsches Script. Wir lernen Senator Kinsey kennen und der will sich auch gleich den Arschlochorden am Band verdienen. SGC? Brauchen wir nicht, schließen wir. Daniel stirbt, aber nur in einer Rückblende.
"Now hear this. Now hear this. On this week's episode of Kirking Off we are forced to ask ourselves, 'To acknowledge Picard or to not acknowledge Picard - that is the question.' Well we aren't sure how much 'nobler' one is than the other, but that won't stop us from weighing in on ole' baldy's fate with the same confidence and self-assuredness as Captain Jellico when he sits down to negotiate with the wolfish Cardassians. Speaking of those treacherous reptile men, we get to meet the most Orwellian of the bunch, Gul Madred, and despite being called a "six year old boy" we do see that he is capable of indulging in tremendous evil during his hellish battle of wills with Picard. Will he see four lights or will he see five? I present to you, Chain of Command Part 2, from Star Trek: The Next Generation." It's a peaceful transition of power on the USS Enterprise-D as Captain Jean-Luc Picard cedes control to Captain Jellico, who straight up does NOT like Commander Riker. Why is this happening? Like many of my opinions on Star Trek: The Next Generation, my opinion of Captain Jellico, specifically, has come full circle. I wish there was some nuance in his character, but he's just gratuitously aggro. No conflict with the Cardassians was so imminent that he couldn't just let Riker finish a sentence. Granted, our leads burrow into their roles as planets orbiting Captain Picard instead of breaking out as their own independent characters, so both of our bike tires are flat this time. It turns out the nerd fraternity is Lambda Lambda Lambda, which was actually a fraternity for black students that within the fictional "Revenge of the Nerds" universe allowed the nerds to use it. Really, the harping I do about Star Trek losing its ideological way reaches its climax here. I know other people (and me. Actually, most me) gripe a lot about Star Trek: Picard, but STP is really a natural extension of the changes in Star Trek most clearly seen in "Chain of Command." I mean, is there any context in which "Starfleet does covert ops and does them badly" doesn't leave us pretty far from the space where we started? And are there any merits to that deeper space? Captain Picard’s secret mission fails, leading to him being captured by Cardassians. As he is tortured by his captors, Captain Jellico and the Enterprise attempt to prevent war with the Cardassian Union. Today James and Lou discuss (Chain of Command, Part II) and what we think of it, with tonight’s guest host Colin Higgins. Credit: […]
When the Little D can't advance in the game without doing an escort mission, they descend into a submarine trope salad to hunt some ticks. But when a Disaster level of crew separation takes place, it might fall to Quark to save the ship. What's the best holiday to eat a Canada goose? Why is Hanok so thirsty for surrender? How do you serve up Captain Jellico realness? What good is a jaunty lining in a jacket if you're not going to show it off? It's the episode that rests for as long as it needs to in shavasana pose. Captain Jellico. Captain Edward Jellico comes in like a whirlwind in the season 6 "Chain of Command" two-parter of The Next Generation to take command of the Enterprise-D during an important confrontation with the Cardassians. Jellico moves to implement a number of changes very quickly that leads to conflict with the crew, especially Commander Riker. What do we think of Jellico's command style, his effectiveness, and how the crew reacts to him? In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Richard Marquez and Justin Oser are joined by guest Ken Tripp of Standard Orbit to talk about their thoughts on Captain Jellico and his appearances in The Next Generation episodes "Chain of Command: Part I" and "Chain of Command: Part II." Topics discussed include a comparison between the command styles of Captain Jellico and Captain Picard, Jellico's effectiveness, the resistance that he receives from the crew, and his working relationship with his two first officer, Riker and Data. Troi. The introduction of a counselor to the bridge of U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-D was seen as a product of the therapy-happy 1980s. The character of Deanna Troi went through many changes during her seven seasons on television and four feature films - from wearing a blue skant in "Encounter at Farpoint" to a wedding dress inStar Trek: Nemesis. Troi's role as a bridge officer often fluctuated from merely stating the obvious to making a significant contribution to the conflict du jour. Phillip, Darren, and Daniel discuss the evolution of the character from an accented, "exotic" empath to an in-charge uniform-wearing commander. They discuss her relationships with her Imzadi Commander William T. Riker, her mother Lwaxana, her captain and patient Jean-Luc Picard, and her brief boyfriend, Worf. The trio also struggles with why the writers ignored and "victimized" Troi on far too many occasions. So replicate your favorite chocolate concoction, avoid anything called "tequila," and join Earl Grey for a character profile of Counselor Deanna Troi.HostsDaniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren MoserEditor / ProducerDarren Moser Production Manager Richard Marquez Content Coordinator Will Nguyen ChaptersInitial Thoughts (00:02:20) The not so great (00:07:01) Great joy and gratitude (00:18:00) Major relationships (00:29:51) Worf (00:42:40)Final Thoughts (00:49:37) Send us your feedback!
