In 1513, Juan Ponce de Leon led the first European expedition to what is now Florida. Legend has it (though historians now doubt) he was in search of the mythical “Fountain of Youth”, a supposed magical spring believed to grant immortality to those who drink from it. Perhaps just as legendary are fictional tales like Tuck Everlasting, The Mummy, and of course Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, all of which share this theme of a mortal's quest for eternal longevity. But God has made such searches superfluous by showing us exactly how to “live long and prosper”: “You shall keep [God's] whole commandment… that you may live long in the land that the Lord swore to you” (Dt 11:8-9). Obey the Lord, and we will be blessed; disobey, and we'll be cursed (“you will perish quickly”; 11:17). But where does that leave sinful people like us? Join us for this sermon as we're reminded of God's remedy for our sin problem, and worship Him in response!

Und immer, wenn der auf Menschen und auf andere Lebewesen trifft, dann erhebt er seine Hand in einem merkwürdigen Segensgestus und sagt: „Live long and prosper“, lebe lang und in Frieden.Was viele auch nicht wissen: Dieser Gruß ist eigentlich ein Segen. Leonard Nimoy, der Darsteller von Mr. Spock, kannte ihn aus seiner jüdischen Kindheit. Es ist der aaronitische Segensgestus. Die gespreizte Hand formt den hebräischen Buchstaben Shin, ein Zeichen für einen der Namen Gottes, Shaddai, der Allmächtige. Ein uralter Segen, der seinen Weg in die Popkultur gefunden hat. Und genau diesen Segen hören wir in der Bibel, im Buch Numeri: „Der Herr segne dich und behüte dich. Der Herr, lasse sein Angesicht über dich leuchten und sei dir gnädig. Der Herr wende dir sein Angesicht zu und schenke dir Frieden.“Dieser Buchstabe Shin steht also mehr als nur für ein Zeichen. Er erinnert auch an Shalom, den Frieden, der mehr ist als Ruhe oder Streitlosigkeit. Er erinnert aber auch an Schomer, das hebräische Wort für Hüter, Gott, der uns behütet, der uns schützt, der uns nicht loslässt.Gerade in diesen Frühlingstagen spüren wir vielleicht: Wir brauchen diesen Segen, dass Gott mit uns geht, dass er immer wieder sagt: Ich bin da, ich wache über dich und ich gehe mit dir. Und so können wir diesen Segen von Mr. Spock in unseren Alltag hineintragen, indem wir ihn uns nicht nur von Gott zusprechen lassen, sondern ihn vor allem anderen zusprechen: Du gehst nicht allein, du bist behütet, und über deinem Leben liegt ein Segen.

Gene Roddenberry's name is synonymous with Star Trek, but he relied on a team to bring his vision to life. Most of his writers were men with one exception, the trailblazing Dorothy Fontana. Professionally, she went by D.C. Fontana to counter the belief that women couldn't write genres like war, Westerns or sci-fi. Fontana became story editor and wrote some of the most beloved episodes of The Original Series, became the de facto showrunner on The Animated Series, and helped launch The Next Generation. She excelled at building character relationships and alien species – especially Vulcans – and worked closely with Leonard Nimoy to develop Spock. We're going to do something today, you probably never thought you hear from me. Today, I'm going to preach my first ever Prosperity Gospel message. What is prosperity? Prosperity can touch a lot of different aspects of our lives, and in general, God enjoys prospering his servants. But we need to understand what and where we're talking about here. This somewhat longer episode has a little bit of potpourri at the beginning, as the Inflation Guy covers the OER-Primary Rents divergence, the decline of Reverse RP balances, and the effect of AI on inflation...but the meat of the podcast is a discussion about a product (which a listener sent to the Inflation Guy) that resembles an inflation-linked annuity but in a mutual fund form.
