Evan Vernon interviews Martina SCARPELLI , director of EGG. Martina is an Italian filmmaker based in Denmark. She works as animation director, creative director and producer pushing provocative stories with sophisticated storytelling that challenges and inspires audiences of today. She has a BA in Fine Art from “Academy of Brera” in Milan, and a BA in Animation from “Experimental Center of Cinematography” in Turin. She is a former alumni of Animation sans frontiers, Anidox:Lab, Anidox:Residency, and former Open Workshop resident. Her short film Egg was awarded with a crystal for first film at Annecy, a Golden Dove at Dok Leipzig, Golden Horseman at Filmfest Dresden, was nominated for best short film at the European Animation Awards 2018 and shortlisted for the 2020 Cesar Award. Her film EGG was recently selected as a Winner in the Animation Nights New York 5th ANNY Best of Fest in 2021. Joe Ochman is a well known and a respected voice actor; he has been heard in diverse roles all over the anime universe, in shows like Naruto, Marvel’s Blade, Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Digimon, Gundam Origins, JoJos Bizarre Adventure, Hunter x Hunter, Twin Star Exorcists, Duel Masters, Wolf’s Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Mon Colle Knights, Shinzo. In animated TV, Joe recurs as Mayor Billington on Disney Junior’s Doc McStuffins, and as Mayor Bourgeois on Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. In animated film, he appeared in the Oscar-nominated Ernest & Celestine, the National Film Award winning Delhi Safari and the Annie and Cesar Award winning Zarafa. And voices on games such as;  Kingdom Hearts 3, Red Dead Redemption and Life Is Strange! On camera on TV, he guest starred on Disney Channel’s Best Friends Whenever, Bones on Fox, Showtime’s House of Lies and Weeds, and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior for CBS. Joe recurred as a guest star on CSI and Sleeper Cell. Born and raised in the Netherlands, Michael attended the Geneva School of Fine Arts in Switzerland before graduating from the West Surrey College of Art in England with his first film in 1978. Michael is presently based in London where he directs and animates award-winning commercials for television and cinema. Michael's earlier animated shorts include Tom Sweep and The Monk and the Fish, which was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Cesar Award, and the Cartoon d'Or. Michael's most well-known short film Father and Daughter won an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and the Grand Prix at Annecy. He later worked on The Aroma of Tea, an experimental film painted entirely with tea. Michael's most recent film is the award-winning animated feature, The Red Turtle, a wordless fable of a man shipwrecked on a desert island who encounters a mysterious sea creature. The Red Turtle was the first non-Japanese film to be produced by Studio Ghibli.

Benoit is best known for the soundtrack of the Oscar nominated, animated film, The Triplettes of Belleville, for which he won a Cesar Award for Best Music Written for a Film as well as a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Music. The song Belleville Rendez-vous, in particular, earned him an Academy Award nomination as well as a Grammy Award nomination. Benoit composed the score for the National Film Board of Canada animated short Runaway, written and directed by Cordell Barker.  Benoit wrote the music for a variety of other feature films including: Maxed Out, Polytechnique, Route 132, A Bottle in the Gaza Sea, and Mars et Avril.
