But for reasons that are still unclear, Vaughn left X-Men Days of Future Past, and reunited with writer Mark Millar to come up with their own comic book called Kingsman. Before long, Vaughn had another property to take on and in 2015, he directed and released the feature (now) comic book film Kingsman: The Secret Service. Join Matt, Garrett, and Adam as they look at the film which has almost zero stars, yet grossed over $400 million and spawned a certified franchise. X-Men: Days of Future Past is notable for three things. The first is that it splits the timeline continuity between the old X-Men movies directed by (allegedly) sex pests towards underage boys or adult women with the new ones that will eventually bring us to Dark Phoenix and New Mutants taking Fox's outing with Marvel off a cliff, and in doing so innovates the now lucrative concept of the "multiverse." The second is that aforementioned sex pest towards underage boys (allegedly) is back to directing an X-Men movie and now we have to talk about him. The third is that JFK is a mutant. Welcome back to a new Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast. This week I'm chatting with Sharlene Royer, the Assistant Stunt Coordinator for utterly brilliant ‘Shogun', which recently won a record-breaking 18 Emmys - including a very well-deserved one for Outstanding Stunt Performance!Based on James Clavell's novel, FX's 'Shōgun' is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village...It is an outstanding drama, available on Hulu in the USA, and on Disney+ in the UK and other territories. It's well worth watching and catching up if you haven't seen it yet, as it appears it will be returning for two more seasons following its record-breaking Emmy win.Born and raised in Quebec to a Haitian mother and French Canadian father, Sharlene was a dancer from the ages of 7 to 18, before moving into modelling and acting. However, following a meeting with legendary Stunt Coordinator, Alan Oliney, she was encouraged to try stunt work, and found her calling. She soon became a very sought-after stunt performer being requested to double stars such as Halle Berry, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Williams and many more.On 'Shōgun', Sharlene discusses her work on the epic drama as Assistant Stunt Coordinator, working alongside her boss (and life-partner) Lauro David Chartrand-Del Valle, developing the hugely complex Emmy-winning “cannon” scene, melding VFX, physical effects and stunts for the “earthquake”, plus location scouting, stunt coordinating in the pandemic and lots more.If that wasn't enough, Sharlene was also Assistant Stunt Coordinator on season one of the hit CBS drama ‘Tracker', for which she became the first Black, Female Stunt Coordinator to win a Leo Award from The Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Foundation of British Columbia. With Deadpool 3, Dune Part 2 and other major blockbusters in combination with a not so great marketing campaign this movie definitely got lost in the noise of 2024. To my surprise Transformers 1 is one of the best of the year and in the franchises history. We're back with another entry into our "Marvel's 20th Century Fox Era" series. In this episode, we discuss the X-Men Prequel series following the X-Men films after a small reboot including "X-Men: First Class", "X-Men: Days of Future Past", "X-Men: Apocalypse", and "Dark Phoenix" (we should've known when they left "X-Men" out of the title). We talk about our relationships to the films, development history, interesting plot points in the films, box office reception, and what these movies mean to the superhero genre.

The X-Men must prevent a major global catastrophe that is predicted to happen in the distant future and is triggered by the assassination of a government official. Luckily, the X-Men prevent Mystique from harming the senator, but shapeshifters remind us that, sometimes, identity expression is mutable, adaptive, and performative. 

Ana and Dan don't think too hard about it, because the movie is just better that way. Another over-stuffed cast wrangles some nonsense as best they can, to perfectly adequate results!
