Born in New York, Louise Vongerichten Ulukaya would spend her childhood days growing up in both New York and the south of France where she studied and practiced ballet. In 2005, Louise went to Washington DC to study finance at American University. Upon completing her degree, she returned to France to pursue her MBA at ESSEC Business School in Paris. After living in Dubai and Hong Kong, Louise returned to New York City. Since her return, New York has been graced with two of her restaurants under the Chefs Club name. In 2016 Louise decided to establish the Food Dreams Foundation with her family and to pursue her philanthropic endeavor by helping students access education and jobs within the culinary industry. Since then, more than 60 students from every part of the world have been participating in the program. After the birth of her first son in 2019, Louise decided to create a children's clothing brand that cares for the environment, respects the people making it, and looks and feels good while being accessible for all. She set out to design clothes that would care for the planet and for the environment while also not compromising on the comfort, look, and feel of the clothes. After 2 years of research to perfect the best technologies and blends of materials to make earth-friendly clothes for kids, Mon Coeur was born. Website: Louise Ulukaya Instagram: shopmoncoeur

By the time you read this, Katie Button will be back at her restaurant and bagel shop in Asheville, NC, but she was away for a few weeks, in residence at Chefs Club in New York City. That's a terrifying thing to do when it's your own business, but Button trusts her staff at Cúrate Tapas Bar and Button & Co. Bagels, and they get to develop some new skills while she's away. It's important to her to invest in her team's development in all different ways—like paying a living wage, offering healthcare, creating incentives for employees who stick around for a certain amount of years—both because she cares, and because it makes her take a good, hard look at the kind of life she'd like for herself. During her tenure in NYC, Button opened up about the importance of therapy, the impact of a "vampire schedule" when you have a family, and the pressures of owning a business.
Hosts Jian DeLeon and Noah Thomas catch up with Chef JJ Johnson to hear about what he’s got cooking. The James Beard Award-winning chef specializes in his signature pan-African cuisine, which he brought into popularity during his residency at New York’s Chefs Club. While Chef JJ is busy feeding the culture, he also believes in the importance of integrating his food with the community. The quick hits bring some appetizers to the table with Undercover’s Nike Air Max 720 and React Boot, both of which are dropping this week (2:50). The main course presents Dior’s B24 and Louis Vuitton’s Rivoli sneakers, with the latter looking a bit reminiscent of a dish the French fashion house has served in the past (5:23). The cast decides to take a pass on dessert — the Prada x adidas Superstars — which they hope is just a teaser for what the two brands have in store for the future (9:07). This week’s biggest headlines are lined up, starting with Sherbinskis, The Dropcast alumni and the by CHLOE. of the cannabis market, which recently opened the doors for its flagship North American dispensary on Los Angeles’ Fairfax Avenue (13:47). Then, the hosts fire the alarm for the cop of the week: LVMH’s purchase of Tiffany & Co. for a record-breaking $16.2 billion (15:29). Last but not least, Drake’ dad, Dennis Graham, is in talks to land his own reality dating show with multiple networks that are interested in securing the series (17:37). Things start to get questionable with Drake on board as the executive producer. Chef JJ talks cooking some off-menu items for Dapper Dan’s dinner, who’s now vegan and a fan of JJ’s restaurant up in Harlem — get ready for some Gucci Greens (19:57). JJ discusses Fieldtrip, where rice is culture, and what the holidays are like for him (21:40). He dishes out tips for getting that moist turkey ready in time for next Thanksgiving, and a quick recipe for turkey leftovers just in time for this year (23:05). This episode’s Question of the Week (QOTW) asked, “What’s your favorite struggle meal?” and had Dropcast listeners calling in with tasteful inspirations while JJ shares his related food stories and quick-and-easy bodega grabs (25:22). Speaking of consumerism and giving thanks during the holidays, the episode wraps up with “What’d You Cop?” (33:26). Chef JJ was gifted a pair of Converse Off-Whites, and talks about changing the shoe game for chefs in the kitchen. As always, our next QOTW will be up on Highsnobiety’s Instagram. Leave us a voicemail on The Dropcast hotline at 833-HIGHSNOB (833-444-4766) for a chance to be featured in a future episode. This week on In the Drink, host Joe Campanale sits down with Jerusha Frost, New York Sommelier. Recommending wine to New York diners for almost 8 years now, her love for wine was discovered while living on a vineyard in Austria and was then fostered at Wallsé by Aldo Sohm. After working for him there and Le Bernardin, she had a brief stint at the then newly-opened RN74 in San Francisco, returning to NYC to open The Lion in the West Village. From there, she moved uptown, to work with Michael Madrigale at Bar Boulud and Boulud Sud. Currently, she is working with Chef Didier Elena and a roster of the world’s best chefs at Chefs Club by Food & Wine, where she has curated a list of fine and delicious wines from around the world. Jerusha holds an Advanced Sommelier Certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers, a Diploma of Wine & Spirits from the WSET (Wine & Spirits Education Trust) and a B.A. from Macalester College. Tune in for a great show! This program was brought to you by Michter’s. “I’ve really learned how a wine that you wouldn’t necessarily gravitate to can be something you would love based on what you’re eating. It can make the food better!” [4:48] “Work with someone who has tasted so much more than you and knows more than you and can teach you. There’s so much to learn and I still have so much to learn.” [13:39] —Jerusha Frost on In the Drink
