With its outrageous humor, fast-paced energy, and unforgettable moments, The Wolf of Wall Street remains one of the most exhilarating, yet cautionary, tales of ambition gone wild.To complement this wild ride, I'm pairing the film with Michter's US1 Bourbon. Known for its balance of bold flavors and smoothness, Michter's US1 Bourbon offers a rich and layered profile that perfectly matches the film's high stakes and intoxicating energy.

Joe Magliocco didn't found Michter's Whiskey…but he is the modern-day father of the brand. Magliocco uncovered the lapsed trademark for Michter's nearly 30 years ago that led to the brand's revival. He'll join us on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth to discuss everything from the history of Michter's to today's concerns over tariffs and overproduction. In the news, the European Union has joined the trade war with the U.S., and will impose a 50% tariff on Bourbon and other American whiskies April 1. The U.S. has responded with a threat from President Donald Trump to tax European spirits and wines at 200%, and spirits producers on both sides of the Atlantic are concerned. We'll have the details, along with the story of a New Jersey man's unusual find along the beach — 11 bottles of Prohibition-era whiskey.

Pappy 13:When first approached by Buffalo Trace, Julian III was honored, but not immediately interested. He had ample bourbon aging, but the concern was for future reserves, since by this time, bourbon was increasing in popularity. Buffalo Trace bought the W.L. Weller label in 1999 and had been making the bourbon with nearly the same recipe as Pappy's. The transition was easy. As of May 2002, Buffalo Trace has produced the Van Winkle bourbons, using Pappy's exact recipe. This change allows Old Rip Van Winkle to maintain their strict quality standards while producing more barrels for future enjoyment.Michter's 10: The 10 Year Rye expression reflects the exceptional results of uncompromising craftsmanship and Kentucky's unrivaled climate for aging outstanding whiskey. Often much older than the age statement on the label, only a select few barrels age with the elegance required for inclusion in these highly limited releases.

A government shutdown looms this Friday, and Congress is scrambling to find a funding bill that both parties will approve. The rush comes after President-elect Trump (and Elon Musk) scrapped a bill, and then a short term bill backed by both Trump and Musk failed to pass on Thursday. Emily Wilkins reports from DC on plans for “plan C,” and Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma) discusses the likelihood of another funding fight after the holidays. Kentucky distiller Michter's is bracing for the possibility of a 50% tariffs on exports to the EU. CEO Joe Magliocco explains the strain of tariffs on the whiskey business, as well as President-elect Trump's overnight tariff threat to the European Union. Surprises come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes they come in a really nice box that contains a bottle of bourbon that is hand numbered to 589. This years release of Michter's 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is one of the rarest and most allocated bottles that we've ever laid our eyes on. But, how did we get our hands on it and how does it taste? Well, in the midst of our 2024 "best of blinds," we decided to call an audible and add a few more whiskeys to the competition. Unbeknownst to us all, our buddy Ryan Alves pulled out all the stops and casually showed up with this bottle in hand. So join us this week as we provide an update on our best of blinds competition and give you our thoughts on this highly allocated bottle. -------------------------- Socials IG: https://www.instagram.com/themashupky FB: https://www.facebook.com/themashupky TW: https://twitter.com/themashupky Partnership(s) Visit Bourbonoutfitter.com and enter code THEMASHUP for a special discount or visit bourbonoutfitter.com/THEMASHUP Visit https://woodworkcollective.shop and enter code MASHUP for a 15% discount on your order Music: All the Fixings by Zachariah Hickman Thank you so much for listening!

Michter's Legacy Series celebrates the foundational roots and heritage of the brand through two different whiskeys. Shenk's Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey honors John Shenk who founded what would become the Michter's brand all the way back in 1753. This years release of Shenk's is a predominately rye whiskey that is finished in naturally dried french oak barrels for 24 months. Bomberger's Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey honors the time period when the Michter's distillery was known as Bombergers. This years release is a bourbon with a malted rye component that was aged for three years in air dried chinquapin oak barrels. That's a lot of unique finishing for these two whiskeys. But how do they taste? Join us this week as we talk about barrel picks, fast food, and of course these two bottles. Hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording. If you aren't hip to the Michter's-made Bombergers 108 proof vintage release you need to get up to speed. It doesn't have the Michter's name, so I think it gets overlooked, but it's a true sleeper hit. They age the distillate in Chinquapin oak that has been air-dried for at least 3 years which means the whiskey takes on a very mellow flavor reminiscent of whiskey from the 50s and 60s.

Michter's Toasted Bourbon is a limited release offering that does not come around annually. In fact, since 2014, this whiskey has only been released a total of four times (with the latest being in 2021). We recorded this episode on August 12th. On the very next day, Michter's put out a press release to announce that Toasted Barrel Bourbon would be released this Fall (24') to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first release. We joked throughout the episode about this potentially happening, but now it is a reality so you are definitely going to want to hear our thoughts on this bottle. In addition to this all important bottle review, you will also get to hear about the adventures of our very own Kenny Mills and a recent Bourbon Junkies event that he attended called "Bourbon in a Barn." Stoll & Wolfe Distillery (Lancaster County, PA) WF0024 Since I first heard the story of how Dick Stoll, formerly of Michters, and Erik Wolfe partnered to keep alive a Pennsylvania rye distilling tradition, I've wanted to have him on the show. Today it happens. We'll dig into the history of a local distillery with roots back to when the British and French were fighting over the Colonies. Then we'll look at how a legendary distillers, who began his distilling career with Michter's when it was in Pennsylvania, joined with a passionate whiskey enthusiast, to carry these stories and spirits into the future. We'll also revisit a sad day in Bourbon County history, on This Week in Whiskey Lore. And we'll mix in some great side trips with our travels, including pretzels and chocolate. Check it out. And if you're inspired to visit Stoll & Wolfe and other Pennsylvania distilleries, there are now 23 listed at whiskey-lore.com/pennsylvania in the Whiskey Lore Travel Guide.
