Long before becoming an award-winning educator, public speaker, and podcaster (of BFF: Black, Fat, Femme), Dr. Jonathan P. Higgins (aka Doctor Jon Paul) was just a kid sneaking movies while mom was at work. One of those films, 1993's This Boy's Life, became one of their favorites. That was in large part thanks to the aspirational friendship of main character Tobias "Jack" Wolff (Leonardo DiCaprio) and the closeted but undeniable Arthur Gayle. Doctor Jon Paul and Jordan discuss the film, the new book Black. Fat. Femme: Revealing the Power of Visibly Queer Voices in Media and Learning to Love Yourself, and transformational power of intersectional friendship and storytelling.Speaking of intersectional storytelling, Jordan has one quick thing about the new Ryan Coogler heater, SINNERS.***With Jordan Crucchiola and Dr Jon Paul Higgins Feeling Seen is hosted by Jordan Crucchiola and is a production Maximum Fun.Need more Feeling Seen? Frank and Gaz close out. The odyssey is over. They draw inspiration from Strong Songs to do some DIY deconstruction on She Loves You and This Boy. They finally track down the vital lost chord, pan diatonic monster cluster, and reharmonisation of a simple three-note motif that changed the world. And, of course, it all wouldn't have come together with Ringo and his trusty left-hand. Thanks to content contributor Galeazzo Frudua for lending his deconstructed vocal chords. And our friend Ash for displaying Ringo's prowess. And Darius De-Von for his fresh and upbeat reaction vids. Thanks folks.

Frank and Gaz are back for their last hurrah in two parts. Once again they come off a long historic run, putting the Beatles 1964 music into the broader sweep of musical history. They consider the legitimacy of comparisons between Lennon/McCartney and Mahler, Beethoven, Bach and even Mach (Tufnel/St Hubbins). Drawing on Frank's part-time classical education, they may have uncovered the mystery of the 'Aeolian Cadence'. Typically eclectic and tangential. Good luck! [In part II they will deconstruct She Loves You and This Boy!, inspired by podcasts like Strong Songs.

What's the secret to successful branded content? For viral Brazilian comedy sensation Esse Menino, the immediate response was, “Being hot.” But what he really meant was this: it's all about brands not being afraid to take creative risks, and giving creators like himself the freedom to be their authentic selves. In this episode, our hosts sit down with a legend of our times to discuss the true meaning of virality, the impact of being queer on Esse's worldview, and the ever-blurring lines between art, commerce and politics. Having found internet fame in 2021 thanks to a political satire video that made it big, Esse has since become an international comedy superstar, writer, activist, and influencer with 1.5M Instagram followers. He creates viral content – for mega brands like Smirnoff and Kinder Bueno – by being true to his identity, without ever actually revealing his name (“Esse Menino” means “This Boy” in Portuguese). Listen for an iconic life story, unique perspectives on social marketing, and important lessons for anyone looking to go viral – if that is indeed your goal – whether you're a brand, creator, or anything in between. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mgempower/message

fWotD Episode 2381: Leonardo DiCaprio.Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Saturday, 11 November 2023 is Leonardo DiCaprio.Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio (, ; Italian: [diˈkaːprjo]; born November 11, 1974) is an American actor and film producer. Known for his work in biographical and period films, he is the recipient of numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and three Golden Globe Awards. As of 2019, his films have grossed over $7.2 billion worldwide, and he has been placed eight times in annual rankings of the world's highest-paid actors.Born in Los Angeles, DiCaprio began his career in the late 1980s by appearing in television commercials. In the early 1990s, he had recurring roles in various television shows, such as the sitcom Parenthood, and had his first major film part as author Tobias Wolff in This Boy's Life (1993). He received critical acclaim and his first Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for his performance as a developmentally disabled boy in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993). DiCaprio achieved international stardom with the star-crossed romances Romeo + Juliet (1996) and Titanic (1997). After the latter became the highest-grossing film at the time, he reduced his workload for a few years. In an attempt to shed his image of a romantic hero, DiCaprio sought roles in other genres, including the 2002 crime dramas Catch Me If You Can and Gangs of New York; the latter marked the first of his many successful collaborations with director Martin Scorsese.DiCaprio continued to gain acclaim for his performances in the biopic The Aviator (2004), the political thriller Blood Diamond (2006), the crime drama The Departed (2006) and the romantic drama Revolutionary Road (2008). He later made environmental documentaries and starred in several high-profile directors' successful projects, including the action thriller Inception (2010), the western Django Unchained (2012), the biopic The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), the survival drama The Revenant (2015)—for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor— the comedy-dramas Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) and Don't Look Up (2021), and the western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).DiCaprio is the founder of Appian Way Productions—a production company that has made some of his films and the documentary series Greensburg (2008–2010)—and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to promoting environmental awareness. A United Nations Messenger of Peace, he regularly supports charitable causes. In 2005, he was named a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to the arts, and in 2016, he appeared in Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world. DiCaprio was voted one of the 50 greatest actors of all time in a 2022 readers' poll by Empire. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:39 UTC on Saturday, 11 November 2023.For the full current version of the article, see Leonardo DiCaprio on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Kimberly Neural.

In the fourth episode of our Set in the 1950s cycle, we cover the 1990s neo-noir LA Confidential along side the coming of age tale in This Boy's Life.We dive into two different worlds of the 1950s: the glam and seedy glitz of Los Angeles vs the cold and wet solitude of rural Washington. LA Confidential won high praise upon its release in the fall of 1997. It's stature has not faded much in the 25 years since. This Boy's Life had a muted release Easter weekend of 1993, and it seems to have gone missing since then. While LA Confidential uses the 1950s as a way to doll up the actors and scenery, it's satirical wit is focused mostly on the city itself and less on the time period. LA is notoriously born of bad blood, and the film never lets us forget that. This Boy's Life has much more simple and intimate story of triumph over an overbearing authority. It's matinee sappiness covers up a base coat of 1950s misogyny and patriarchy it attempts to critique. Note: This podcast was recorded and produced during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike. Without the labor of writers and actors currently on strike, Asteroid City and The Fabelmans would not exist. Support the artists who make the art you love.

On today's episode of Athleisure Kitchen, we're embracing all the reasons to be out and about with friends, traveling to new destinations, and having the best meals at new and treasured restaurants. When it comes to the culinary industry, there have been a number of luminaries that elevated this space and showcase how they interpret and infuse their passion in this field.I'm pleased to have 4X James Beard Award winner, Emmy nominated, Las Vegas Food & Wine Festival's 2022 Chef of the Year, restaurateur, entrepreneur, food advocate, best-selling author, philanthropist, and Host/TV personality, Chef Todd English. He is also Athleisure Mag's MAR ISSUE #87 cover! We enjoyed eating at his restaurant Olives, here in NY back in the 2000s as well as eating at his restaurants in Las Vegas. His passion for his love of cooking rustic Mediterranean, creating an immersive ambiance when you're at his establishments, and having that Todd English aesthetic when you're at his properties is something that we enjoy. He has blown our collective minds, palettes, and senses with such utter delights over the years - with so much more coming!I sat down with Chef Todd to talk about his culinary background, how he got in and navigated the industry, providing insight into what it meant to be in the industry when there weren't the resources that we have access to today, English Hospitality Group (its portfolio includes Olives, Figs, The Pepper Club, Bluezoo at Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort, The English Hotel to name a few), an array of projects, luxury in hospitality, cannabis, and food advocacy. In our conversation, he provides an inside look at how he approaches ingredients, the state of food, and the power of relevancy as a brand.Athleisure Kitchen is on the Athleisure Studio Podcast Network and a member of Athleisure Media. My friend Preston Jenkins (who was on Episode 237) joins us to talk about his new book, “This Boy and His Mother: Healing from Trauma as a Gay Latter-day Saint.” The book talks about how Preston found hope and healing through Christ after sexual and emotional abuse during his mission. The abuse resulted in PTSD and would be triggered by things related to The Church (such as reading scriptures). Preston talks about how he and his mother addressed, worked through, and solved this trauma with guiding help from the Godhead. If you have experienced church-generated pain and/or trauma, this book and podcast will help you. For Preston, this isn't theoretical, but a real-life application of the doctrine of Christ and therapy to heal. Preston has a powerful understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to heal our hearts and souls and his story will help you. Preston is joined on the podcast with his new bride, Taryn (married January 2022). They talk about their beautiful and authentic love story, being open and honest about everything in their lives, and answer typical questions they receive as a couple in a mixed-orientation marriage. I was deeply moved to hear their story. Please listen to this podcast. It will help you and give you better tools to help others. It is a real-life application of the doctrine of Christ. Thank you, Preston and Taryn, for being on the podcast. Thank you for your courage, faith, and vulnerability. You two are awesome. Thanks for helping so many by sharing your story. On his first mission in Asia, Preston experienced the unthinkable: he was sexually and emotionally abused by a companion. Returning home early, he dealt with clinical PTSD, depression, and was understandably bitter toward God. Preston wrote about his experience of healing through Christ's atonement in his new book, "This Boy and His Mother"—the title coming from a quote in Elder Holland's conference talk, "Behold Thy Mother," in which he detailed some of Preston's story.   On today's episode, we talk about Preston's experience, the book, and some of the key lessons he learned in the healing process. You can purchase Preston's book here:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B59HFQLJIf you enjoyed this episode, please leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or whatever platform you use. Subscribe to your YouTube Channel!https://youtube.com/channel/UCQLkj5TX9vqhibqdj8yi0RgFollow us on Instagramhttps://instagram.com/sitdownwithsky?utm_medium=copy_linkFollow us on Twitterhttps://twitter.com/sitdownwithsky?s=21All of our links:https://linktr.ee/Sitdownwithsky

Laura and Adrian joyfully reunite in part 2 of this guestless double-wide kickoff to The Feminist Present's third season. And we have a new, cinematic theme! In addition to the book nerd chatter you've come to count on from us in the present, for this season we're also reflecting on the past: we've invited a bunch of brilliant feminists to talk about ‘90s-'00s “chick flicks” with us, allowing them to define that term however they wish. We begin here with a crucial two-part deep dive into the era's complex representations of gender: a retrospective of Leonardo DiCaprio's iconic and iconoclastic career from 1993-1997. We journey through the eight films DiCaprio made during this groundshifting period: in part 1 we discuss This Boy's Life, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Basketball Diaries, The Quick and The Dead, and in part 2 we cover Total Eclipse, Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, and finally, of course, Titanic.
