“When I began to work with City Hope, it drove home that [unhoused people] are humans. That they had some challenges. That they are needing some support, some care, some love, and, most of all, to be treated with dignity” -Mike Willis Today's guests are City Hope St. Louis's CEO Pastor Mike Robinson and Director of Operations Mike Willis. Pastor Mike and Mike sit down with Staci to discuss common misconceptions for unhoused individuals, the struggles of acquiring identification, and helping unhoused youth continue their education.

Are you mobilizing someone who is going through a difficult time? If so, does that mean we should push the pause button on mobilization? Perhaps you're going through a season of suffering yourself. Listen in today as Dave Jacob talks with David Joannes about his latest book, See the City: Hope for the Bruised, Battered, and Broken-Hearted. You'll hear the story of White Flower, a ten-year-old refugee girl in Myanmar and learn ways to help mobilize others during difficult times. This episode will inspire and equip you to press on in mobilization. The following questions were asked during the interview: 1. What was your inspiration behind See the City? 2. White Flower, the little refugee girl in Myanmar, plays an important role in the book. Can you tell me more about her? 3. Your book touches on the theme of "Suffering, Sorrow, and Grief." Can you share what inspired you to delve into such profound topics? 4. What message do you have for mobilizers who are going through a difficult time themselves or attempting to mobilize those who are going through seasons of suffering? 5. You discuss the misnomers people often have when they think about Heaven. Why should Christians think more about Heaven and how does this impact mobilizing more missionaries? 6. You've created a coloring book companion that goes along with your book. Tell us about that and it's purpose.

"Can I lose my salvation?” is the question that emerges when we view grace through a transactional model and a crime and punishment view of the Gospel. Instead of trying to figure out if we can lose our salvation, what if instead, we learned to find it? We find salvation by finding His grace sufficient in the moment for the moment. We allow the weight of our desires and emotions to rest on the foundation that promises this newness of life. The promise of resurrection is the possibility of newness. The power of the resurrection is that we live in a world where we will experience deep grief, but our hope runs deeper.

These past years there has been no shortage of things to remind us how broken the world is. In Jeremiah, to a people in exile, God points his people to a time when he would make things right. This Easter season, we can have hope and rejoice with joy inexpressible, because the plan that was laid out to forgive sins was accomplished in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection!

The season of Easter in the church year begs the question: What difference does the resurrection actually make? During this season of Eastertide, we will look at the impact of the resurrection on the earliest Christians. We are calling it “The New Normal”, and we invite you to consider with us what new things God normalized with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Today Rev. Sally Steele, Co-Director of City Hope SF shares an update on what's happening at City Hope as well as a sermon from Acts 1:1-11. You can support the work of City Hope by visiting https://www.cityhopesf.org/. All are welcomed, loved and affirmed (🌈) at City Church.

Adam and I welcomed the Rev Paul Trudeau to our show. Paul is a Co-Director of City Hope, a homeless mission in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. He previously served as chaplain at the San Francisco County Jail. We had an amazing conversation about the role servitude plays in spirituality. Paul's responses to "service" and the role of "giving" was completely unexpected. His beliefs on "taking", in terms of growth and healing, was enlightening. It was refreshing to have such an open, and inclusive message in a period of time that feels so divisive. This interview had many great points that I know will stay with me. It is good to hear from someone dedicated to restoring humanity to segments of society that seem to have humanity robbed from them.

It’s not too early to mark your calendars: we’ll be back with another Advent season, beginning on November 29. I hope you’ll join me, as we wait together for God. In the meantime, everyone needs some rest from time to time, and so I’m going to be taking a little break. But I would love for you to hear from some of my friends while I’m resting! This Fall, we’ll have special guest-hosted episodes of We Wonder every week, where you can still listen to God’s good words with some lovely and different voices. And I’ll be listening along with you! This week's episode features our friend, Sally Steele. Sally is a pastor and a non-profit director at City Hope, an organization in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood that provides a trusted gathering place + community for our neighbors on the margins. She lives just across the Bay in Oakland with her husband and their three girls who are in 6th, 4th, and 2nd grade. When the air is clean in the SF Bay Area, she likes to get outside for hiking and backpacking; when it’s not so much, like recently, she loves to stay in and cook for her family. This week's passage is Job 38:8-12, 16-18: 8 Who created the ocean? Who caused it to be born? 9 I put clouds over it as if they were its clothes. I wrapped it in thick darkness. 10 I set limits for it. I put its doors and metal bars in place. 11 I said, ‘You can come this far. But you can’t come any farther. Here is where your proud waves have to stop.’ 12 “Job, have you ever commanded the morning to come? 16 Have you traveled to the springs at the bottom of the ocean? Have you walked in its deepest parts? 17 Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness? 18 Do you understand how big the earth is? Tell me, if you know all these things. Have you ever shown the sun where to rise? We Wonder is written and hosted by Sarah Dahl, and is produced by Richard Clark and Nick Thompson.
