Could Jesus be the answer you've been searching for? John's Gospel invites us to come and see who Jesus really is—not just a good teacher, but God in the flesh. Written decades after the other Gospels, John's purpose is clear: to reveal Jesus as the eternal Word, the light in the darkness, and the only way to true life (John 1:1, John 14:6).This isn't just about eternity; it's about a rich and fulfilling life right now (John 10:10). From the very beginning, Jesus was there—God's Word made flesh, dwelling among us. Will you come and see for yourself?#ComeAndSee #JesusIsTheAnswer #GospelOfJohn #CrossBridgeChurch
Question: Can you help me with this question: “If Jesus died for all and has legally purchased all through substitutionary atonement, then how can those people go to hell? That would be a ‘Double Jeopardy' of the sins of those people being paid for twice.” This is my husband's main question and I would really appreciate help with it based on Calvinism.Response: The Bible says that God wants all to be saved: “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Pet 3:9). But the Bible also says that not all will be saved (Matt 7:21-23; Lk 13:22-27, etc). Nevertheless, the Bible also tells us that God is all powerful (Ps 147:5; Jer 32:17; Matt 19:26, etc).Calvinism has its own explanation. They strive to make things add up. “If God is all powerful,” the reasoning goes, “and God wants all people to be saved, then all people will be saved. Since not all people will be saved, Christ must have died only for some; God must not want all to be saved.”This is unbiblical according to the much-explained John 3:16 (what “world” means), and the blunt statement of 1 John 2:1-2: “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” But to some, it makes nice, theological sense. This is, however, putting one's reason above God's Word; believing what makes sense rather than believing all of what God has said. As Dave Hunt wrote in Calvin's Dilemma: God's Sovereignty vs. Man's Free Will (pp 9-10), “William L. Pettingill wrote, ‘God insists upon His sovereignty and also upon man's responsibility. Believe both and preach both, leaving the task of ‘harmonizing' with Him.' In a similar vein, A. T. Pierson, although a leading Presbyterian, declared that both ‘the sovereign will of God and the freedom of man' are taught in Scripture and that ‘if we cannot reconcile these two, it is because the subject is so infinitely lifted up above us. Man is free.... Thus the last great invitation in God's Book is an appeal to the will.'“Unfortunately, neither John Calvin nor many of his followers today have been willing to accept both sides of this biblical teaching. The result has been devastating in its consequences for the gospel: that man can only reject Christ; he cannot accept and believe in Him unless he is sovereignly regenerated by God. Calvinism refuses to accept what so many great evangelists have recognized is vital. Edgar Mullins expresses very well the essential balance that is missing:“‘Free will in man is as fundamental a truth as any other in the gospel and must never be canceled in our doctrinal statements. Man would not be man without it and God never robs us of our true moral manhood in saving us.... The decree of salvation must be looked at as a whole to understand it. Some have looked at God's choice alone and ignored the means and the necessary choice on man's part.'”

What if Jesus moonlighted as a globetrotting rock star during his "lost years?" Buckle up for a hilarious odyssey through history and imagination as we stitch together tales of Jesus' rumored adventures in places like Japan and India, with a touch of musical flair. Imagine Jesus, or Issa as he's sometimes called, strumming a guitar on the Silk Road, earning the moniker "six-string savior" in a mythical band of holy rollers. We playfully reimagine Jesus' journey from boyhood to spiritual rockstar, studying under Buddha's tutelage in India, and perhaps even jamming with Siddha yogis. The mysterious "Scrolls of Isa," possibly hidden away in Tibetan monasteries, spark our curiosity about the intriguing intersections of mythology and reality, all wrapped in comedic banter and whimsical musings. Our playful exploration doesn't stop there. We ponder connections between Christian and Eastern traditions, speculating on cultural exchanges and shared spiritual practices that may have shaped religious history. Could Jesus' miraculous deeds be linked to yogic powers, or are they simply tales spun from cultural encounters? With a nod to pop culture icons like Spider-Man and the Beatles, we humorously contemplate Jesus' potential influences and inspirations. As we sign off with a cheeky farewell, we remind our listeners to support their local comic shops and prepare for whatever adventures await in future episodes.

Audio taken from the live teaching "Could Jesus Return This Year?" - https://youtu.be/t2CB2YBQuLoAs you have often heard me teach through the years, there is debate among Christians concerning the timing of the return of the Lord and the doctrine of the Rapture. In recent months we have seen the possibility of a regional war escalating in the Middle East, threats of the use of nuclear weapons, unprecedented floods, back-to-back hurricanes, predictions of another, possibly greater, pandemic, and calls for a one-world government and monetary system. These are the "signs of the times" that tell us that the rapture of the church is imminent. In today's Bible study, I will cover these 3 questions of great consequence:1. What does "imminency" mean?2. What does "Maranatha" mean?3. Could Jesus return this year?Key Scriptures for today's teaching: 1 Corinthians 1:4-9Other Scriptures in this study: 1 Thessalonians 1:10, James 5:7-9, 1 Corinthians 16:22-24If you prayed with Tiff, click here https://lostlamb.org/just-got-saved and let him know! Friday, 13 September 2024 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” Matthew 4:3 “And having come, the one tempting, he said to Him, ‘If Son – you are – of God, speak, that these stones – they might become bread'” (CG). The previous verse noted that after forty days and forty nights of fasting, Jesus was hungry. Because of that weakened state, it next says, “And having come, the one tempting.” The idea of “having come,” is one of nearness. The tempter came near to Jesus, but this does not mean he came physically. The Lord would speak to the prophets of old so that they audibly heard Him, but there was no physical presence. Likewise, Peter says this – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” 1 Peter 5:8, 9 There is nothing to suggest that the tempter appears to people in a visible form. Rather, a spiritual battle is what believers are engaged in. As for the word “tempter,” it is the same word just used in verse 4:1, peirazó. At that time, it was translated as “test,” rather than tempt. Jesus went through an extended period of testing which now culminates in being tempted by the tempter. As noted, HELPS Word Studies says, “Context alone determines which sense is intended, or if both apply simultaneously.” Jesus will be tempted in three ways that practically mirror what happened with Adam in the Garden of Eden. That begins with the words, “he said to Him, ‘If Son – you are – of God.'” The word Son is in the emphatic position, and thus, the temptation is based on that premise. As for the word “if,” the Greek word is ei. It does not suggest any doubt. Rather, the words presume that Jesus is the Son of God. It would be like someone saying to a very strong person, “If you are so strong, why don't you use your strength in this case?” The tempter fully realizes that Jesus is the Son of God and is working out his temptation based on that premise. And so, he continues with the words, “speak, that these stones – they might become bread.” Here, the word stones is plural. In Luke 4, it is singular – this stone. It may be that the words were first stated in general. Look around you at all these stones (the area is a very rocky place). With that, the tempter may have focused on a single stone that looked exceedingly like a loaf of bread, highlighting the temptation and tempting Jesus even further, “This one! Look at how tasty it could be... go ahead and command it!” As for the temptation, in the garden, the devil said to the woman, “For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:5). The tempter knows that Jesus is like God because He is the Son of God, and so instead of tempting Him with becoming like God, He tempts Him with what God can do. However, this is testing of Jesus' humanity, not His deity. In other words, it says in Hebrews – “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16 The devil gained possession of the rights to mankind by causing man to sin. If Jesus the Man were to prevail over the tempter and to also fulfill God's law as a Man, that right would be restored to Him. If Jesus, however, were to rely on His deity to overcome the works of the devil, there would be no transfer of rights. The story of Ruth gives detailed insights into this transfer of rights between people. Sin is what necessitated Jesus' incarnation. His state as a Man who can regain the right to humanity is what is under consideration. The age-old question of “Could Jesus sin?” is what is brought into focus here. This is known as the doctrine of impeccability. The tempter obviously felt He could. The account of Jesus' life, however, bears out that He did not. Going back to Matthew 3:17, the voice from the heavens audibly proclaimed that Jesus is God's Son of whom God had approved. Looking around at all of the stones in His extreme hunger, it would have been an enormous temptation to appease Himself by using His divine power to satisfy His human needs. But it would have marred the entire purpose of His incarnation. Therefore, He resisted the temptation, as will be seen in the coming verse. Life application: Jesus prevailed over the temptation before Him. In our faith in Jesus, we are brought into a state of salvation because we transfer our headship from Adam to Him. The authority the devil possesses over humanity is broken through our faith. However, our trials do not end. In fact, they often become more pronounced – “For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know. 5 For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor might be in vain.” 1 Thessalonians 3:4, 5 The devil understands our new position in Christ, and he wants nothing more than to disarm our power in Him. The power we are given is our faith. And our faith leads us to share with others the faith we possess. Paul continues – “But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also to see you— 7 therefore, brethren, in all our affliction and distress we were comforted concerning you by your faith. 8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 3:6-8 If our faith is weakened, then our testimony is weakened. When that happens, we are no longer telling others about Jesus, and souls that could be transferred from Adam to Jesus will never hear the gospel. The devil did not want Jesus to prevail because he hates humanity and wants nothing more than for it to be eternally condemned. However, Jesus prevailed, and His offer stands for all people to receive. But this is only going to come about by people of faith telling others the good news. Let us hold fast, remain strong in the faith, and rely wholly on the strength of the good news of Jesus Christ to carry us through our lives as we continue to boldly proclaim what we know – for the salvation of others and to the glory of God. Lord God Almighty, give us the strength, wisdom, and endurance to continue in our faith all of our days so that we will boldly and effectively tell others about the goodness of God in Christ. May it be so, to Your glory. Amen.

Could Jesus live in Corinth? In our opening lesson exploring First Corinthians, we are going to put on a set of lenses to see the church and the world anew. These 7 lenses show how a Christian can navigate their way in a dark world and yet see others (and themselves) in the light of hope. Yes, Jesus could live in Corinth. The pressing question then is whether Corinth will see Jesus in us.The sermon today is titled "7 Lenses For Christians In Corinth." It is the first installment in our series "City Lights: Bearing Witness To A Culture In Crisis." The Scripture reading is from Ephesians 4:3-6 (NIV). Originally preached at the West Side Church of Christ (Searcy, AR) on August 18, 2024. All lessons fit under one of 5 broad categories: Begin, Discover, Grow, Learn, and Serve. Life is a process. We know that if we've lived very long at all. And this week, we're talking about the process of trusting God.John 16:24 says, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”Could Jesus meet our needs by just giving us something instantly? Of course. He made everything! And sometimes He does that; the miracles He performed that are recorded in the New Testament tell us that He often instantly met a person's need. But He doesn't always work that way. And that's because Jesus loves to teach us.In the book of John, He is telling us the steps necessary to trust Him for provision. First, we ask. Then we learn to receive His good gifts. Finally, we feel real joy, because we know exactly where it came from. This process is designed to teach us faith, and then to be genuinely appreciative to the Lord for meeting our needs. All through the Bible, we are told that He delights in helping us, in loving us through tough times. The older we get, the more we're able to look back and see that He and He alone brought us through. There is usually no other explanation. And that is called a miracle.Let's pray. Lord, we are dependent on you for everything, and we are blessed that you are our Source. In Jesus' name, amen.Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Could Jesus have been a good teacher, or a moral prophet or a liar, or a lunatic? Or is He Lord?
Today's story is found in your Bibles - you can read it in Luke 17:11-19 - Jesus heals 10 lepers. It all started with ten men who were very sick. They had leprosy—a sickness where they had red lumps and bumps on their body. The worst part about leprosy was nobody could touch you, or else they'd get sick, too! So the ten men with leprosy weren't allowed to live inside their village. They stayed outside, and they must have been pretty sad. But one day, Jesus was walking to Jerusalem when he came across the village where the lepers lived. One of the lepers sprang to his feet when he saw Jesus coming toward them in the distance. “Hey!” he called out to his fellow leper friends. “Look! Is that Jesus?” “It is!” said another leper. “Let's call out to him!” The lepers were very excited to see Jesus, because they had heard that Jesus healed people. Could Jesus heal them, too? “Jesus!” they called out. “Jesus!” As Jesus came closer, He could see the men with their lumps and bumps. He could see that they were very sick, and His heart filled with care for the lepers. But how many were there? Jesus began to count… one, two, three…eight, nine… ten! Ten lepers! And they were coming closer to him now. The ten lepers suddenly stopped, afraid they were getting too close to Jesus. They didn't want to make him sick, after all! But they wanted to get better. They wanted to be healed. As they looked at each other, one of them raised his voice and called out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” Do you want to know what happens next? Who is “the poor”? What does that phrase even mean anyway? Throughout the Bible, that phrase is used to describe people God wants to remember, serve, include, and relieve. Yet, we often forget these people. During this Lenten season, we're remembering this group and God's call for us to serve the marginalized amongst us. In Matthew 25, Jesus has surprising news about who they are. Hint: it involves Jesus in a big way. Could Jesus' revelation change our lives, our church, and our city? Come and see.- Series Description -Jesus cares deeply about the marginalized. During this Lenten series, we will unpack God's care for the poor, identification with this group, and the ways God moves on their behalf and calls us to do likewise. Oftentimes, we see people talk the talk with justice — saying the right things, using the in season buzzwords — but they are not caring for actual marginalized folks. Other times, we see people serving to the point of burnout and not modeling the world they are working so hard for. They might do good works but without much good news. Jesus is completely different. He has compassion, mercy, and deep love for folks who are marginalized. Jesus sees, stops, and cares, and He calls us to do the same. Will we? Over the Covid-19 pandemic, each our service and justice ministries got shut down — prison bible studies at Whalley and York, serving at Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK), and serving with Agape Church for the Homeless. As the pandemic shifted and more things opened up, we remained quite inward. We want that to change. We are praying that God's work amongst us would inspire a new ministry for and among the poor and marginalized. Join us!

Jonah 3.1-5, Psalm 62.5-12, 1 Corinthians 7.29-31, Mark 1.14-20; Should fish receive eulogies? Is there a difference between trusting and believing? Could Jesus get ordained in a church today? These questions and more on this episode of Strangely Warmed with guest Mikang Kim. Mikang serves at Epworth UMC on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.Hosted by Taylor Mertins
The David Alliance TDAGiantslayer@Gmail.com - A covenant is identity - Two lives become one: In covenant you become identified with the other individual and there is a supernatural commingling of two lives. Covenants have blood spilled. It is not just an oath, but an oath built on spilt blood. The woman's body has a Hyman which has no specific purpose or biological purpose other than when she has her first sexual experience it tears and blood is shed. The curtain that separated the holy of holies had no real purpose… in itself it was not holy… but when Christ blood was spilled the curtain tore open to let the whole world know there is a new covenant. SEX IS YOUR IDENTITY - VIRGINITY IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE YOUR IDENTITY WITH YOUR HUSBAND IN A COVENANT. - - A Covenant has a Hierarchy - A line of command… WHY? he created a chain of command in order to hold the man responsible. 1 Cor. 11:3 This has nothing to do with quality of being or importance, but rather responsibility. A woman has to respect, submit and obey her husband as long as he himself is obeying and submitting to God. Otherwise the hierarchy is broke and you don't get to tell her what to do. If a United States Colonel goes rogue the private under him does not have to obey him. FINALLY We get married - LIVE A COVENANT in order to practice Gods love and likeness. You say I am in a horrible marriage… Could Jesus live in that marriage? Yes, he could. So the real question is “how much do you have to be like Jesus” to live in that marriage… because that is the point of our walk with Christ… to be more like him! The Mystery of Marriage EPH. 5: 32This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church. How do we love each other the way Christ loved the church? Only through the power of the God. You can't build a strong nation, country on marriages based on feelings. But you can on a country based on covenants. We live in a world where we can be Christians but still not honor Gods command “no sex before marriage”. And because of that… we get married on a weakened “feelings” based foundation. Thus… breaking a marriage covenant is easy because it was based on feelings to begin with.
It's time for another set of weird questions posed by Cy Kellett of Catholic Answers to Jimmy Akin, including this time: what if mankind fell after Adam and Eve; did Jesus know how to build an airplane; what happened with Balaam's donkey; Ed and Lorraine Warren; and more. Nearly everyone today assumes that Jesus could read and write. But is that historically plausible? There is only one story in the New Testament where Jesus is shown to be able to read (Luke 4) and he is never said to be able to write (except in the story of the Woman Caught in Adultery that was added by scribes only later John 7-8). In this episode we consider the literacy rates of antiquity (very low!), and discuss who could learn to read and then write, how they were educated, and whether it is likely that an impoverished dayworker from a poor family in a remote backwater of the empire was one of them.
